Water soluble organic compounds (WSOC) in airborne particulate matter (PM) have received considerable attention in recent years due to their abundance and their importance in atmospheric processes. The analysis of WSOC is necessary for quantifying the relative contribution of individual organic compounds to the total WSOC mass. In the present work, we evaluated the performance of a microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) method for the determination of WSOC in PM and compared the data with those of a conventional ultrasonic extraction (USE). The experimental results showed that the MAE method requires a shorter extraction time (5 min) compared to USE. The isolated water-soluble organic fraction of PM was subsequently analyzed using ion chromatography (IC) for low molecular weight organic acids. The rapid MAE method was used in conjunction with IC for the analysis of organic acids in PM samples, collected from different sources.  相似文献

Dieldrin is a moth-proofing agent that was banned by the Stockholm Convention in 2001. The amount of dieldrin in wool products was measured by a microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) method. The optimal conditions were as follows: extraction solvent, acetone/n-hexane (1:1 v/v); extraction temperature, 110 degrees C; extraction time, 10 min; solvent volume, 25 mL. When six samples were used, dieldrin contents determined by GC with the proposed MAE agreed closely with those by the Japanese official method using GC with solvent extraction and cleanup by column chromatography. The proposed MAE has two merits. First, the pretreatment of the MAE needs only 4 h for 11 samples, while that using the Japanese official method needs 2 days for six samples. Second, the volume of organic solvents used for the proposed method was only about one-tenth of that used in the Japanese official method. Our proposed method seems to be easy and useful for daily (routine) tests. Dieldrin contents of 28 used wool products, which were obtained from local clothing shops and ordinary homes, were determined by GC with the proposed MAE, and six products contained dieldrin (0.310-175 ppm). The dry cleaning of the woolen yarn containing 175 ppm dieldrin did not remove a significant amount of dieldrin. Therefore, it seems likely that dieldrin is still distributed slightly but widely throughout the world.  相似文献

Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and chlorobenzenes (CBzs) are two classes of dioxin precursors formed in municipal solid waste incinerators (MSWIs); they produce negative health effects similar to those of dioxins. Reducing the analytical time required for determining the concentrations of these compounds in MSWIs is important for quickly evaluating their importance and assessing associated health risks. In the present study, water is used as a safe and environmentally friendly solvent in microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) for PCB and CBz analyses. MAE is compared with traditional Soxhlet extraction (SE) to determine the extraction efficiencies. The evaluation of extraction efficiencies shows that MAE has a high extraction efficiency compared with that of SE when water content is lower than 60%. Furthermore, the extraction time and organic solvent consumption are reduced with MAE compared with SE.  相似文献

This review summarizes the research done during the last decade on the MAE of active ingredients from plants. Advances and modifications to improve the performance of MAE are presented and discussed in detail. Modified MAE such as vacuum microwave-assisted extraction (VMAE), nitrogen-protected microwave-assisted extraction (NPMAE), ultrasonic microwave-assisted extraction (UMAE), dynamic microwave-assisted extraction (DMAE) and other advancements in MAE are also detailed in this article. In addition, the microwave extraction procedures and the important parameters influencing its performance are also included, together with the advantages and the drawbacks of each MAE techniques.  相似文献

A multiresidue method developed for the analysis of atrazine and its principal conversion products, deisopropylatrazine (DIA), deethylatrazine (DEA) and hydroxyatrazine (HA), in soil is presented. The method is based on the microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) of soil with aqueous methanol followed by solid-phase extraction (SPE) of the extracts and subsequent analysis by LC–UV with a diode array detector. MAE operational parameters (extraction solvent, extractant volume) were optimized with respect to extraction efficiency of the target compounds from soils with 2.5% organic matter (OM) content. Recoveries above 80% were obtained for all solutes. Soil OM content did not affect analyte recoveries. Recoveries from fresh and aged residues, the latter weathered under cold storage conditions, were not statistically different. Finally, MAE was found to be superior in terms of extraction efficiency, sample throughput, and solvent consumption to conventional flask-shaking extraction.  相似文献

Three commonly applied extraction techniques for persistent organic chemicals, Soxhlet extraction (SE), accelerated solvent extraction (ASE) and microwave-assisted extraction (MAE), were applied on soil and fish samples in order to evaluate their performances. For both PCBs and PBDEs, the two more recent developed techniques (ASE and MAE) were in general capable of producing comparable extraction results as the classical SE, and even higher extraction recoveries were obtained for some PCB congeners with large octanol-water partitioning coefficients (Kow). This relatively uniform extraction results from ASE and MAE indicated that elevated temperature and pressure are favorable to the efficient extraction of PCBs from the solid matrices. For PBDEs, difference between the results from MAE and ASE (or SE) suggests that the MAE extraction condition needs to be carefully optimized according to the characteristics of the matrix and analyte to avoid degradation of higher brominated BDE congeners and improve the extraction yields.  相似文献

A novel microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) method has been developed for the extraction and determination of tanshinones (tanshinone IIA, cryptotanshinone and tanshinone I) from the root of Salvia miltiorrhiza bunge with analysis by HPLC. Various experimental conditions were investigated to optimize the percentage extraction. Under appropriate MAE conditions, such as ethanol concentrations of 95% (v/v), MAE for 2 min, liquid/solid ratio of 10:1 (ml/g), the percentage extraction can reach high in a short time. The percentage extraction (tanshinone IIA: 0.29%; cryptotanshinone: 0.23%; tanshinone I: 0.11%) by MAE was the same or even higher than conventional extraction methods. MAE only needs 2 min, but extraction at room temperature, heat reflux extraction, ultrasonic extraction and Soxhlet extraction need 24 h, 45 min, 75 min and 90 min, respectively. MAE was also available in pilot plant form for larger scale extraction.  相似文献

In this paper, a microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) method was established for aristolochic acid-I from Aristolochiae Fructus, and the advantage of MAE was evaluated by chromatographic analysis coupled with nephrotoxicity studies. The experimental parameters of MAE for aristolochic acid-I in Aristolochiae Fructus were investigated and MAE was compared with Soxhlet extraction and ultrasound-assisted extraction in terms of extraction yields and extraction conditions. Under the optimum conditions, MAE could provide higher extraction yields of aristolochic acid-I (1.10 mg/g) than ultrasound-assisted extraction (0.82 mg/g) and Soxhlet extraction (0.95 mg/g), in addition to using less solvent and having a shorter extraction time. Furthermore, the nephrotoxicities of the extracts of Aristolochiae Fructus from different extraction procedures were investigated in Sprague-Dawley rats. The results of nephrotoxicity studies of, for example, general conditions, biochemistry parameters and histopathology examination showed no significantly differences in the nephrotoxicity levels of the extracts from MAE and that from Soxhlet extraction. These results indicated that MAE technique is a simple, rapid and effective extraction method, and the microwave irradiation during MAE procedure did not have any influence on the nephrotoxicity of Aristolochiae Fructus compared with Soxhlet extraction.  相似文献

In many analytical laboratories, the microwave-assisted dissolution technique is already the method of choice for sample preparation. Other microwave-assisted techniques for sample preparation are being constantly developed and put into practice. The application of microwave energy for the isolation of organic analytes from diverse environmental samples began in mid eighties and has made great progress in recent years. In this work, the microwave-assisted extraction (MAE),the microwave-assisted saponification (MAS) and the microwave-assisted alkaline degradation (MAAD) of organic compounds in various synthetic and real environmental samples are described.  相似文献

The demand for mechanical recycling of plastic waste results in an increasing amount of recycled polymeric materials available for development of new products. In order for recycled materials to find their way into the material market, high quality is demanded. Thereby, a complete and closed loop of polymeric materials can be achieved successfully. The concept of high quality for recycled plastics imply that besides a pure fraction of e.g. polyethylene (PE) or polypropylene (PP), containing only minor trace amount of foreign plastics, knowledge is required about the type and amount of low molecular weight (LMW) compounds. During long-term use (service-life), products made of polymeric materials will undergo an often very slow degradation where a series of degradation products are formed, in parallel, additives incorporated in the matrix may also degrade. These compounds migrate at various rates to the surrounding environment. The release rate of LMW products from plastics depends on the initiation time of degradation and the degradation mechanisms. For polymers the formation of degradation products may be initiated already during processing, and subsequent use will add products coming from the surrounding environment, e.g. fragrance and aroma compounds from packaging. During recycling of plastics, emissions which contain a series of different LMW compounds may reach the environment leading to unwanted exposure to additives and their degradation residues as well as degradation products of polymers.Several extraction techniques are available for sampling of LMW compounds in polymers before chromatographic analysis. This paper reviews and compares polymer dissolution, accelerated solvent extraction (ASE), microwave assisted extraction (MAE), ultrasound assisted extraction (UAE), super critical fluid extraction (SFE), soxhlet extraction, head-space extraction (HS), head-space solid phase micro extraction (HS-SPME), and head-space stir bar sorptive extraction (HSSE) as appropriate sampling methods for LMW compounds in recycled polymers. Appropriate internal standards useful for these kinds of matrices were selected, which improved the possibility for later quantification. Based on the review of extraction methods, the most promising techniques were tested with industrially recycled samples of HDPE and PP and virgin HDPE and PP for method comparison.  相似文献

Ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) and microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) are currently amongst the foremost green techniques for accelerating extraction processes. Several methods for the efficient recovery of the phenolic compounds from rosemary leaves have so far been proposed, but little data are available on the use of UAE and MAE. The aim of this work is to investigate the efficiency and selectivity of these techniques in recovering fractions of specific phenolic compounds from dried rosemary leaves using solvents that are suitable for food applications. UAE has been carried out by means of a probe system equipped with a titanium horn working at 19.5 kHz (140 W). MAE has been performed in a closed multimode reactor under N2 (20 bar) at 100 °C. All obtained extracts were dissolved in a defined solvent volume and the solutions were directly analyzed using a combination of the HPLC-DAD-MS and TOF techniques. MAE and UAE in ethanol and acetone dramatically increased phenol yield (more than three times) as compared to more traditional solid–liquid extraction processes. In terms of selectivity, remarkably high rosmarinic acid content (6.8% of the dried extract) was obtained in ethanol under ultrasound (US). Even more impressive is the selectivity of UAE in n-hexane which gave the highest carnosic acid content, up to 13% of the dried extract. In conclusion, non-conventional energy sources and, in particular, high-intensity US have proven themselves to be rapid, efficient, and selective techniques for rosemary leaf extraction and provide fractions with high rosmarinic and carnosic acid contents.  相似文献

Azo dyes are widely used in formulations intended for children use. But their potential toxicity raised the need of an efficient and fast method of analysis. A study for the optimization of the extraction of some azo colorants used in toys was conducted. Several extraction methods for the selected analytes were evaluated and compared, i.e., supercritical fluid extraction (SFE), microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) and Soxhlet extraction. Poly(vinyl chloride) samples spiked with known quantities of the studied dyes were prepared. The influence of critical variables on analyte recoveries in SFE and MAE was investigated by using a full-level factorial design, where most significant parameters as well as order interactions were studied in each case. The analytes were subsequently detected by high-performance liquid chromatography with UV detection. The three extraction techniques were compared in terms of reproducibility, selectivity and analyte recoveries. MAE showed higher recoveries (above 98%), except for the diazo dye (nearly 60%). Reproducibilities were generally good for the three methods (relative standard deviation lower than 2.0%).  相似文献

This study presents a method based on the use of microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) for the quantitative analysis of 2,4,6-trichloroanisole (TCA), 2,3,4,6-tetrachloroanisole (TeCA), pentachloroanisole (PCA), 2,4,6-tribromoanisole (TBA), 2,4,6-trichlorophenol (TCP), 2,3,4,6-tetrachlorophenol (TeCP), pentachlorophenol (PCP) and 2,4,6-tribromophenol (TBP) in cork stoppers. The influential parameters of the MAE procedure (extraction time, temperature and solvent volume) were optimised using a central composite experimental design combined with desirability functions. The optimal conditions identified were temperature 170 degrees C, solvent volume 35 mL and extraction time 90 min. MAE extracts were concentrated and derivatised prior to separation and quantification by gas chromatography with electron capture detection. To evaluate the applicability of the proposed MAE method, recovery results were compared with those obtained with the Soxhlet extraction method; the results were similar with both extraction methods. The new method was also satisfactorily applied to real cork stopper samples.  相似文献

An efficient microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) technique has been developed to extract scutellarin from Erigeron breviscapus for rapid determination by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The maximum yield of scutellarin reached 1.02% in 40 min under the optimal MAE conditions with 80 °C of extraction temperature and 1:10 (w/v) of the solid/liquid ratio. The MAE showed obvious advantages in terms of short duration and high efficiency to extract scutellarin in comparison with heat-flux extraction. The mechanism of the enhanced extraction by microwave assistance was discussed by detecting particle size and specific surface area of plant materials and observing cell destruction of plant material by light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The results showed that the plant materials were significantly destroyed due to the cell rupture after MAE treatment. Afterward, the method validation for HPLC-UV analysis was developed. Calibration range was 0.1-100 μg mL−1 for scutellarin, and correlation coefficient R was 0.9993. Limit of detection was less than 0.01 μg mL−1. The intra- and inter-day relative standard deviation (R.S.D.) of scutellarin detection ranged from 1.58% to 2.96% and from 3.32% to 4.19%, respectively. The recovery of the method for scutellarin ranged from 96.7% to 101.9%.  相似文献

Abstract

The recovery of antioxidants from basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) was modeled with the aid of response surface methodology (RSM) using microwave-assisted extraction (MAE). Face-centered central design (FCCD) was employed to optimize the MAE operational parameters including the extraction time (1 to 7?min), extraction temperature (30 to 120?°C), solid-to-solvent ratio (0.1 to 0.4), and solvent concentration (20 to 80% ethanol, v/v), and to obtain the best possible combinations of these parameters for a high antioxidant yield from basil. The total antioxidant capacity (TAC) was expressed in trolox (TR) equivalents per gram of dried sample (DS). Three of the operational parameters (temperature, extraction time and solvent concentration) were shown to have significant effect on the extraction efficiency of antioxidants in basil extracts (p?<?0.05). The solvent concentration was shown to be the most significant factor on antioxidant yield obtained by MAE. There was a close relationship between experimental and predicted values using the proposed method. This optimized MAE method shows an application potential for the efficient extraction of antioxidants from basil in the food and pharmaceutical industries.  相似文献

An analytical method consisting of extraction, clean-up, and analysis by gas chromatography-electron-capture detection (GC-ECD) was developed for the determination of trichlorobenzenes (TCBs) in fish samples. Two extraction methods, saponification and liquid-liquid extraction (S-LLE), and microwave-assisted extraction (MAE), were evaluated. In both cases, n-pentane was used as the extraction solvent. For S-LLE, the recoveries ranged from 66.6+/-9.1% for 1-bromo-4-chlorobenzene (4-BCB) to 93.5+/-4.9% for 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene (1,2,4-TCB). The recoveries were significantly lower, between 31.0+/-3.9% for 1,2,3-trichlorobenzene (1,2,3-TCB) and 52.3+/-3.0% for 1,3,5-trichlorobenzene (1,3,5-TCB), in the absence of fish. Proteins and glycerides of the fish tissue seemed to compete with TCBs for the base, and hence decreased their decomposition rate. In the case of MAE, the recoveries were highly dependent on the pressure applied during extraction. At 5 bar, much higher recoveries were obtained, from 66.7+/-15.6% for 4-BCB to 79.9+/-13.6% for 1,2,4-TCB, than at 1 bar. Sulfur formation was, however, observed at 5 bar, and interfered with the GC-ECD analysis of TCBs. Sulfur was adequately removed by copper powder treatment, which was shown not to affect the recovery of analytes. The recoveries of target analytes by S-LLE and MAE did not differ statistically (t-test, alpha = 0.01). Both methods were appropriate for the detection of TCBs at concentration levels typically observed in marine biota, i.e. approximately 1 ng/g. S-LLE was, however, more time consuming, and required larger volumes of high-purity organic solvents than MAE.  相似文献

This study concerns the possibilities of using microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) or supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) for detection of harmful azo colorants in leather. After degreasing of the leather sample with SFE there follows a reductive cleavage of the azo colorants to their corresponding aromatic amines in the MAE or SFE equipment. The aromatic amines are subsequently extracted using either MAE or SFE and then finally determined by liquid chromatography with diode-array detection. The results have been compared with recoveries obtained using the German DIN method 53316. This standard method, based on conventional solvent extraction, is used in several European countries. Overall much better recoveries were obtained using MAE or SFE. With both MAE and SFE the amine recoveries of spiked leather samples were generally above 50%. The average recoveries were 62% for MAE and 60% for SFE (solvent collection) compared to 24% with the DIN method. For genuine leather samples the recoveries decreased, especially for benzidine. In this case the average values for MAE, SFE and DIN were 54, 38 and 19%, respectively. The quantification limits in leather samples using MAE or SFE were below 1 mg/kg for all amines investigated. The within-laboratory precision was generally better than 10%, varying somewhat with the analyte considered. With the proposed methodology, the amount of hazardous organic solvents used could be decreased and the sample throughput increased with at least a factor of two with less manual handling compared to the DIN method.  相似文献
