Recently, a new phenomenological Hamiltonian has been proposed to describe the superconducting cuprates. This so-called Gossamer Hamiltonian is an apt model for a superconductor with strong on-site Coulomb repulsion between the electrons. It is shown that at half-filling the Gossamer superconductor with strong repulsion is unstable toward an antiferromagnetic insulator. The superconducting state undergoes a quantum phase transition to an antiferromagnetic insulator as one increases the on-site Coulomb repulsion. Near the transition the Gossamer superconductor becomes spectroscopically indistinguishable from the insulator.

We propose schemes to realize robust quantum states transfer between distant resonators using the topological edge states of a one-dimensional circuit quantum electrodynamics(QED)lattice.Analyses show that the distribution of edge states can be regulated accordingly with the on-site defects added on the resonators. And we can achieve different types of quantum state transfer without adjusting the number of lattices.Numerical simulations demonstrate that the on-site defects can be used as a change-over switch for high-fidelity single-qubit and two-qubit quantum states transfer. This work provides a viable prospect for flexible quantum state transfer in solid-state topological quantum system.

We study the quantum coherence and ground-state phase transition of a four-chain Bose–Hubbard model with the long-range interaction. In a special four-chain Bose–Hubbard model,i.e., each chain only has one optical potential, four types of the ground-state phases are discovered. The effects of the disorder, the on-site interaction and the long-range interaction on the quantum coherence are studied. For the system without the long-range interaction, the quantum coherence changes from one periodic oscillation to two periodic oscillations as the onsite interaction increases. By considering the long-range interaction, the quantum coherence goes back to one periodic oscillation again. The on-site interaction itself suppresses the quantum coherence, both the on-site interaction and long-range interaction together enhance the quantum coherence with the weak disorder. If the disorder strength is increased beyond a critical value, they start to suppress the quantum coherence. In a regular four-chain Bose–Hubbard model, i.e.,each chain has many optical potentials, the ground-state phase transitions are obtained by using the cluster Gutzwiller mean-field method. Exotic ground-state phases are found, i.e., superfluid phase, integer Mott insulator phase, supersolid phase and loophole insulator phase. The combination of the loophole insulator phase and the supersolid phase expands the lobes with the half-integer filling per site for the small ratio β = t_■/t_⊥.

A design is proposed for scalable solid-state quantum computing, which is based on collectively enhanced magnetic coupling between nitrogen-vacancy center ensembles and superconducting transmission line resonators interconnected by current-biased Josephson junction superconducting phase qubit. In this hybrid system, we realize distant multi-qubit controlled phase gate operations and generate distant multi-qubit entangled W-like states, being indispensable resource to quantum computation. Our proposed architecture consists of solid-state spin ensembles and circuit QED, and could achieve quantum computing in a solid-state environment with high-fidelity and scalable way. The experimental feasibility is discussed, and the implementation efficiency is demonstrated numerically.

We study the quantum phase diagram of granular superconducting quantum dots (GSQD) array. We implement the physics of granularity by considering site dependent Josephson couplings, on-site charging energies and the intersite interactions. We predict dimer density wave and staggered phases at the insulating state for higher order commensurability. Several parts of the quantum phase diagram of GSQD are in contrast with the clean superconducting quantum dots array. We also obtain the superconducting phase of GSQD. We develop the theory for weak tunneling conductance and the Coulomb energy is smaller than the superconducting gap.

Recently, quantum simulation of low-dimensional lattice gauge theories(LGTs)has attracted many interests, which may improve our understanding of strongly correlated quantum many-body systems. Here,we propose an implementation to approximate Z;LGT on superconducting quantum circuits, where the effective theory is a mixture of a LGT and a gauge-broken term.By using matrix product state based methods, both the ground state properties and quench dynamics are systematically investigated. With an increase of the transverse(electric)field, the system displays a quantum phase transition from a disordered phase to a translational symmetry breaking phase. In the ordered phase,an approximate Gauss law of the Z;LGT emerges in the ground state. Moreover,to shed light on the experiments,we also study the quench dynamics, where there is a dynamical signature of the spontaneous translational symmetry breaking. The spreading of the single particle of matter degree is diffusive under the weak transverse field, while it is ballistic with small velocity for the strong field.Furthermore, due to the emergent Gauss law under the strong transverse field, the matter degree can also exhibit confinement dynamics which leads to a strong suppression of the nearest-neighbor hopping. Our results pave the way for simulating the LGT on superconducting circuits, including the quantum phase transition and quench dynamics.

We implement a quantum walk in phase space with a new mechanism based on the superconducting resonator-assisted double quantum dots.By analyzing the hybrid system,we obtain the necessary factors implementing a quantum walk in phase space:the walker, coin, coin flipping and conditional phase shift. The coin flipping is implemented by adding a driving field to the resonator. The interaction between the quantum dots and resonator is used to implement conditional phase shift.Furthermore,we show that with different driving fields the quantum walk in phase space exhibits a ballistic behavior over 25 steps and numerically analyze the factors influencing the spreading of the walker in phase space.

We report measurements on ultrathin, doubly connected superconducting cylinders of Al that exhibit a destructive regime, which refers to the loss of superconductivity in a doubly connected superconductor near applied half flux quanta due to the sample topology and the small size of the sample.A depairing quantum phase transition(QPT)between a superconducting and metallic state tuned by the magnetic flux enclosed in the quasi one-dimensional(1D)cylinder was found at the onset of the destructive regime. Results on magnetic flux and temperature dependent sample resistance as well as current-voltage characteristics revealed the presence of both thermally activated and quantum phase slips near the depairing QPT.On the superconducting side of the QPT,thermally activated phase slips as described by the Langer-Ambegaokar and McCumber-Halperin(LAMH)theory were found to describe the sample resistance as the system was pushed towards the QPT by a magnetic field applied along the cylinder axis. However, deviation from this behavior was found at low temperatures, signaling the presence of the quantum phase slips. Most importantly,we observed a highly unusual negative slope in the resistance versus temperature curves on the metallic side of the QPT as predicted by the diagrammatic calculation of the dc conductivities in a 1D system near a depairing QPT.Our work suggests that fluctuations from both the phase and the amplitude of the superconducting order parameter are important for the superconductor-to-metal depairing QPT.

The connectivity and tunability of superconducting quantum devices provide a rich platform to build quantum simulators and study novel many-body physics. Here we study quantum phase transition in a detuned multi-connected Jaynes-Cummings lattice, which can be constructed with superconducting circuits. This model is composed of alternatively connected qubits and cavity modes.Using a numerical method, we show that by varying the detuning between the qubits and the cavities, a phase transition from the superfluid phase to the Mott insulator phase occurs at commensurate fillings in a one-dimensional array. We study the phase transition in lattices with symmetric and asymmetric couplings, respectively.

New two-dimensional systems such as the surfaces of topological insulators (TIs) and graphene offer the possibility of experimentally investigating situations considered exotic just a decade ago. These situations include the quantum phase transition of the chiral type in electronic systems with a relativistic spectrum. Phonon-mediated (conventional) pairing in the Dirac semimetal appearing on the surface of a TI causes a transition into a chiral superconducting state, and exciton condensation in these gapless systems has long been envisioned in the physics of narrow-band semiconductors. Starting from the microscopic Dirac Hamiltonian with local attraction or repulsion, the Bardeen–Cooper–Schrieffer type of Gaussian approximation is developed in the framework of functional integrals. It is shown that owing to an ultrarelativistic dispersion relation, there is a quantum critical point governing the zero-temperature transition to a superconducting state or the exciton condensed state. Quantum transitions having critical exponents differ greatly from conventional ones and belong to the chiral universality class. We discuss the application of these results to recent experiments in which surface superconductivity was found in TIs and estimate the feasibility of phonon pairing.

A one‐step scheme is presented to construct the controlled‐phase gate deterministically on remote transmon qutrits coupled to different resonators connected by a superconducting transmission line for an universal distributed quantum computing. Different from previous work on remote superconducting qubits, the present gate is implemented with coherent evolutions of the entire system in the all‐resonance regime assisted by the dark photons to robust against the transmission line loss, which allows the possibility of the complex designation of a long‐length transmission line to link lots of circuit QEDs. The length of the transmission line can reach the scale of several meters, which makes this scheme suitable for large‐scale distributed quantum computing. This gate is a fast quantum entangling operation with a high fidelity of about 99%. Compared with previous work in other quantum systems for a distributed quantum computing, under the all‐resonance regime, the present proposal does not require classical pulses and ancillary qubits, which relaxes the difficulty of its implementation largely.

We have obtained the quantum phase diagram of a one-dimensional superconducting quantum dot lattice using the extended Bose-Hubbard model for different commensurabilities. We describe the nature of different quantum phases at the charge degeneracy point. We find a direct phase transition from the Mott insulating phase to the superconducting phase for integer band fillings of Cooper pairs. We predict explicitly the presence of two kinds of repulsive Luttinger liquid phases, besides the charge density wave and superconducting phases for half-integer band fillings. We also predict that extended range interactions are necessary to obtain the correct phase boundary of a one-dimensional interacting Cooper system. We have used the density matrix renormalization group method and Abelian bosonization to study our system.

This paper studies the discord of a bipartite two-level system coupling to an XY spin-chain environment in a transverse field and investigates the relationship between the discord property and the environment’s quantum phase transition. The results show that the quantum discord is also able to characterize the quantum phase transitions. We also discuss the difference between discord and entanglement, and show that quantum discord may reveal more general information than quantum entanglement for characterizing the environment’s quantum phase transition.

We calculate the quantum phase transition for a homogeneous Bose gas in the plane of s‐wave scattering length as and temperature T. This is done by improving a one‐loop result near the interaction‐free Bose‐Einstein critical temperature Tc(0) with the help of recent high‐loop results on the shift of the critical temperature due to a weak atomic repulsion based on variational perturbation theory. The quantum phase diagram shows a nose above Tc(0), so that we predict the existence of a reentrant transition above Tc(0), where an increasing repulsion leads to the formation of a condensate.

We present a numerical study of the Hubbard-Holstein model in one dimension at half filling, including finite-frequency quantum phonons. At half filling, the effects of the electron-phonon and electron-electron interactions compete with the Holstein phonon coupling acting as an effective negative Hubbard on-site interaction U that promotes on-site electron pairs and a Peierls charge-density wave state. Most previous work on this model has assumed that only Peierls or Mott phases are possible at half filling. However, there has been speculation that a third metallic phase exists between the Peierls and Mott phases. We confirm the intermediate phase, and show that the Luttinger liquid correlation exponent K(rho) >1 in this region, indicating dominant superconducting pair correlations. We explore the full phase diagram as a function of Hubbard U, phonon coupling constant, and phonon frequency.

By use of the exact diagonalization method, the quantum phase transition and entanglement in a 6-Li atom system are studied. It is found that entanglement appears before the quantum phase transition and disappears after it in this exactly solvable quantum system. The present results show that the von Neumann entropy, as a measure of entanglement, may reveal the quantum phase transition in this model.
