It is a well-acknowledged fact that collaboration between different members of a supply chain yields a significant potential to increase overall supply chain performance. Sharing private information has been identified as prerequisite for collaboration and, at the same time, as one of its major obstacles. One potential avenue for overcoming this obstacle is Secure Multi-Party Computation (SMC). SMC is a cryptographic technique that enables the computation of any (well-defined) mathematical function by a number of parties without any party having to disclose its input to another party. In this paper, we show how SMC can be successfully employed to enable joint decision-making and benefit sharing in a simple supply chain setting. We develop secure protocols for implementing the well-known “Joint Economic Lot Size (JELS) Model” with benefit sharing in such a way that none of the parties involved has to disclose any private (cost and capacity) data. Thereupon, we show that although computation of the model’s outputs can be performed securely, the approach still faces practical limitations. These limitations are caused by the potential of “inverse optimization”, i.e., a party can infer another party’s private data from the output of a collaborative planning scheme even if the computation is performed in a secure fashion. We provide a detailed analysis of “inverse optimization” potentials and introduce the notion of “stochastic security”, a novel approach to assess the additional information a party may learn from joint computation and benefit sharing. Based on our definition of “stochastic security” we propose a stochastic benefit sharing rule, develop a secure protocol for this benefit sharing rule, and assess under which conditions stochastic benefit sharing can guarantee secure collaboration.  相似文献

Environmental assessment recently becomes a major policy issue in the world. This study discusses how to apply Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) for environmental assessment. An important feature of the DEA environmental assessment is that it needs to classify outputs into desirable (good) and undesirable (bad) outputs because private and public entities often produce not only desirable outputs but also undesirable outputs as a result of their production activities. This study proposes the three types of unification for DEA environmental assessment by using non-radial DEA models. The first unification considers both an increase and a decrease in the input vector along with a decrease in the direction vector of undesirable outputs. This type of unification measures “unified efficiency”. The second unification considers a decrease in an input vector along with a decrease in the vector of undesirable outputs. This type of unification is referred to as “natural disposability” and measures “unified efficiency under natural disposability”. The third unification considers an increase in an input vector but a decrease in the vector of undesirable outputs. This type of unification is referred to as “managerial disposability” and measures “unified efficiency under managerial disposability”. All the unifications increase the vector of desirable outputs. To document their practical implications, this study has applied the proposed approach to compare the performance of national oil firms with that of international oil firms. This study identifies two important findings on the petroleum industry. One of the two findings is that national oil companies under public ownership outperform international oil companies under private ownership in terms of unified (operational and environmental) efficiency and unified efficiency under natural disposability. However, the performance of international oil companies exhibits an increasing trend in unified efficiency. The other finding is that national oil companies need to satisfy the environmental standard of its own country while international oil companies need to satisfy the international standard that is more restricted than the national standards. As a consequence, international oil companies outperform national oil companies in terms of unified efficiency under managerial disposability.  相似文献

This paper presents a general approach to solving multi-objective programming problems with multiple decision makers. The proposal is based on optimizing a bi-objective measure of “collective satisfaction”. Group satisfaction is understood as a reasonable balance between the strengths of an agreeing and an opposing coalition, considering also the number of decision makers not belonging to any of these coalitions. Accepting the vagueness of “collective satisfaction”, even the vagueness of “person satisfaction”, fuzzy outranking relations and other fuzzy logic models are used.  相似文献

In data analysis problems where the data are represented by vectors of real numbers, it is often the case that some of the data-points will have “missing values”, meaning that one or more of the entries of the vector that describes the data-point is not observed. In this paper, we propose a new approach to the imputation of missing binary values. The technique we introduce employs a “similarity measure” introduced by Anthony and Hammer (2006) [1]. We compare experimentally the performance of our technique with ones based on the usual Hamming distance measure and multiple imputation.  相似文献

Each of an organization’s many activities transforms inputs into outputs. Managing these activities involves allocating input resources for some activities and assigning output targets for others. Making these decisions is especially difficult in the presence of uncertainty. In practice, many organizations address these problems by using a fairly simple “proportional allocation” heuristic (e.g., “allocate to each activity the same percentage increase (or decrease) in its resources or targets”). But proportional allocation does not consider the uncertainty inherent in the ability of each activity to make use of its resources (or meet its targets).  相似文献

Train scheduling is a complex and time consuming task of vital importance in many countries. To create completely new train schedules that are more accurate and efficient than permitted by current techniques, a novel “hybrid” job shop approach is proposed and implemented in this paper. Unique characteristics of train scheduling are firstly incorporated into a disjunctive graph representation of the solution. Dedicated “stand-alone” constructive algorithms that utilise this representation are then developed. The modelling approach and the constructive algorithms are essential as they provide the basis for which meta-heuristics and other iterative refinement algorithms can be applied. A numerical investigation and case study is provided and demonstrates the viability of the modelling approach. Furthermore it is demonstrated that good quality solutions are provided with reasonable computational effort.  相似文献

This work presents a new proof of the recent characterization theorem for generalized Young measures generated by sequences in BV by Kristensen and Rindler (2010) [14]. The present argument is based on a localization technique together with a local Hahn–Banach argument in novel function spaces combined with an application of Alberti's Rank-One Theorem. This strategy avoids employing a relaxation theorem as in the previously known proof, and the new tools introduced in its course should prove useful in other contexts as well. In particular, we introduce “homogeneous” Young measures, separately at regular and singular points, which exhibit rather different behavior than the classical homogeneous Young measures. As an application, we show how for BV-Young measures with an “atomic” part one can find a generating sequence respecting this structure.  相似文献

To analyze the input/output behavior of simulation models with multiple responses, we may apply either univariate or multivariate Kriging (Gaussian process) metamodels. In multivariate Kriging we face a major problem: the covariance matrix of all responses should remain positive-definite; we therefore use the recently proposed “nonseparable dependence” model. To evaluate the performance of univariate and multivariate Kriging, we perform several Monte Carlo experiments that simulate Gaussian processes. These Monte Carlo results suggest that the simpler univariate Kriging gives smaller mean square error.  相似文献

A finite sample performance measure of multivariate location estimators is introduced based on “tail behavior”. The tail performance of multivariate “monotone” location estimators and the halfspace depth based “non-monotone” location estimators including the Tukey halfspace median and multivariate L-estimators is investigated. The connections among the finite sample performance measure, the finite sample breakdown point, and the halfspace depth are revealed. It turns out that estimators with high breakdown point or halfspace depth have “appealing” tail performance. The tail performance of the halfspace median is very appealing and also robust against underlying population distributions, while the tail performance of the sample mean is very sensitive to underlying population distributions. These findings provide new insights into the notions of the halfspace depth and breakdown point and identify the important role of tail behavior as a quantitative measure of robustness in the multivariate location setting.  相似文献

This paper discusses a new meta-DEA approach to solve the problem of choosing direction vectors when estimating the directional distance function. The proposed model emphasizes finding the “direction” for productivity improvement rather than estimating the “score” of efficiency; focusing on “planning” over “evaluation”. In fact, the direction towards marginal profit maximization implies a step-by-step improvement and “wait-and-see” decision process, which is more consistent with the practical decision-making process. An empirical study of U.S. coal-fired power plants operating in 2011 validates the proposed model. The results show that the efficiency measure using the proposed direction is consistent with all other indices with the exception of the direction towards the profit-maximized benchmark. We conclude that the marginal profit maximization is a useful guide for determining direction in the directional distance function.  相似文献

Weyl-Titchmarsh matrix functions play an essential role in the spectral theory of Dirac-type equations (Oper. Theory: Adv. Appl.107 (1999)). In this paper, we have constructed a class of Weyl-Titchmarsh matrix-functions generating potentials of finite-zone type. It has turned out that the corresponding potentials have derivatives of an arbitrary order. Using the above-mentioned results, we deduce the matrix analogue of the trace formula for finite-zone matrix potentials. In the last part of the paper, we consider separately the scalar case of Dirac-type equations. For this case, we have constructed finite-zone potentials in explicit forms and proved that these potentials are quasiperiodical. We note that for scalar Schrödinger equations the corresponding results are well known (see Invent. Math.30 (1975), 217-274; “Soliton and the Inverse Scattering Transform,” SIAM, Philadelphia, 1981; Rev. Sci. Conventional data envelopment analysis (DEA) models assume real-valued inputs and outputs. In many occasions, some inputs and/or outputs can only take integer values. In some cases, rounding the DEA solution to the nearest whole number can lead to misleading efficiency assessments and performance targets. This paper develops the axiomatic foundation for DEA in the case of integer-valued data, introducing new axioms of “natural disposability” and “natural divisibility”. We derive a DEA production possibility set that satisfies the minimum extrapolation principle under our refined set of axioms. We also present a mixed integer linear programming formula for computing efficiency scores. An empirical application to Iranian university departments illustrates the approach.  相似文献

One of the most important steps in the application of modeling using data envelopment analysis (DEA) is the choice of input and output variables. In this paper, we develop a formal procedure for a “stepwise” approach to variable selection that involves sequentially maximizing (or minimizing) the average change in the efficiencies as variables are added or dropped from the analysis. After developing the stepwise procedure, applications from classic DEA studies are presented and the new managerial insights gained from the stepwise procedure are discussed. We discuss how this easy to understand and intuitively sound method yields useful managerial results and assists in identifying DEA models that include variables with the largest impact on the DEA results.  相似文献

This paper examines location assignment for outbound containers in container terminals. It is an extension to the previous modeling work of Kim et al. (2000) and Zhang et al. (2010). The previous model was an “optimistic” handling way and gave a moderate punishment for placing a lighter container onto the top of a stack already loaded with heavier containers. Considering that the original model neglected the stack height and the state-changing magnitude information when interpreting the punishment parameter and hid too much information about the specific configurations for a given stack representation, we propose two new “conservative” allocation models in this paper. One considers the stack height and the state-changing magnitude information by reinterpreting the punishment parameter and the other further considers the specific configurations for a given stack representation. Solution qualities for the “optimistic” and the two “conservative” allocation models are compared on two performance indicators. The numerical experiments indicate that both the first and second “conservative” allocation models outperform the original model in terms of the two performance indicators. In addition, to overcome computational difficulties encountered by the dynamic programming algorithm for large-scale problems, an approximate dynamic programming algorithm is presented as well.  相似文献

A feedback controller for approximate tracking a prescribed trajectory of an inaccurately observed dynamical system effected by uncertain non-observable input disturbances over an infinite time interval is constructed. The controller is “resource-saving” in a sense that control resources spent for approximate tracking do not exceed (with some small gaps) those needed for exact tracking in an “ideal” situation where the current values of the input disturbance are fully observable.  相似文献

New conservative finite difference schemes for certain classes of nonlinear wave equations are proposed. The key tool there is “discrete variational derivative”, by which discrete conservation property is realized. A similar approach for the target equations was recently proposed by Furihata, but in this paper a different approach is explored, where the target equations are first transformed to the equivalent system representations which are more natural forms to see conservation properties. Applications for the nonlinear Klein–Gordon equation and the so-called “good” Boussinesq equation are presented. Numerical examples reveal the good performance of the new schemes.  相似文献

By studying the reciprocity property of linear Diophantine systems in light of Malcev-Neumann series, we present in this paper a new approach to and a generalization of Stanley's monster reciprocity theorem. A formula for the “error term” is given in the case when the system does not have the reciprocity property. We also give an inductive proof of Stanley's reciprocity theorem for linear homogeneous Diophantine systems.  相似文献

Evaluating the performance of activities or organization by common data envelopment analysis models requires crisp input/output data. However, the precise inputs and outputs of production processes cannot be always measured. Thus, the data envelopment analysis measurement containing fuzzy data, called “fuzzy data envelopment analysis”, has played an important role in the evaluation of efficiencies of real applications. This paper focuses on the fuzzy CCR model and proposes a new method for determining the lower bounds of fuzzy inputs and outputs. This improves the weak efficiency frontiers of the corresponding production possibility set. Also a numerical example illustrates the capability of the proposed method.  相似文献
