This paper describes an attribute based tabu search heuristic for the generalized minimum spanning tree problem (GMSTP) known to be NP-hard. Given a graph whose vertex set is partitioned into clusters, the GMSTP consists of designing a minimum cost tree spanning all clusters. An attribute based tabu search heuristic employing new neighborhoods is proposed. An extended set of TSPLIB test instances for the GMSTP is generated and the heuristic is compared with recently proposed genetic algorithms. The proposed heuristic yields the best results for all instances. Moreover, an adaptation of the tabu search algorithm is proposed for a variation of the GMSTP in which each cluster must be spanned at least once.  相似文献

Neighborhood search heuristics like local search and its variants are some of the most popular approaches to solve discrete optimization problems of moderate to large size. Apart from tabu search, most of these heuristics are memoryless. In this paper we introduce a new neighborhood search heuristic that makes effective use of memory structures in a way that is different from that in common implementations of tabu search. We report computational experiments with this heuristic on the traveling salesperson problem and the subset sum problem.  相似文献

In this paper, we develop a tabu search procedure for solving the uniform graph partitioning problem. Tabu search, an abstract heuristic search method, has been shown to have promise in solving several NP-hard problems, such as job shop and flow shop scheduling, vehicle routing, quadratic assignment, and maximum satisfiability. We compare tabu search to other heuristic procedures for graph partitioning, and demonstrate that tabu search is superior to other solution approaches for the uniform graph partitioning problem both with respect to solution quality and computational requirements.  相似文献

The antenna-positioning problem concerns finding a set of sites for antennas from a set of pre-defined candidate sites, and for each selected site, to determine the number and types of antennas, as well as the associated values for each of the antenna parameters. All these choices must satisfy a set of imperative constraints and optimize a set of objectives. This paper presents a heuristic approach for tackling this complex and highly combinatorial problem. The proposed approach is composed of three phases: a constraint-based pre-processing phase to filter out bad configurations, an optimization phase using tabu search, and a post-optimization phase to improve solutions given by tabu search. To validate the approach, computational results are presented using large and realistic data sets.  相似文献

The purpose of this article is to describe an efficient search heuristic for the Maximum Edge-weighted Subgraph (MEwS) problem. This problem requires to find a subgraph such that the sum of the weights associated with the edges of the subgraph is maximized subject to a cardinality constraint. In this study a tabu search heuristic for the MEwS problem is proposed. Different algorithms to obtain an initial solution are presented. One neighborhood search strategy is also proposed. Preliminary computational results are reported for randomly generated test problems of MEwS problem with different densities and sizes. For most of test problems, the tabu search heuristic found good solutions. In addition, for large size test problems, the tabu search outperformed the local search heuristic appearing in the literature.  相似文献

The economic lot scheduling problem has driven considerable amount of research. The problem is NP-hard and recent research is focused on finding heuristic solutions rather than searching for optimal solutions. This paper introduces a heuristic method using a tabu search algorithm to solve the economic lot scheduling problem. Diversification and intensification schemes are employed to improve the efficiency of the proposed Tabu search algorithm. Experimental design is conducted to determine the best operating parameters for the Tabu search. Results show that the tabu search algorithm proposed in this paper outperforms two well known benchmark algorithms.  相似文献

This paper proposes a new tabu search algorithm for multi-objective combinatorial problems with the goal of obtaining a good approximation of the Pareto-optimal or efficient solutions. The algorithm works with several paths of solutions in parallel, each with its own tabu list, and the Pareto dominance concept is used to select solutions from the neighborhoods. In this way we obtain at each step a set of local nondominated points. The dispersion of points is achieved by a clustering procedure that groups together close points of this set and then selects the centroids of the clusters as search directions. A nice feature of this multi-objective algorithm is that it introduces only one additional parameter, namely, the number of paths. The algorithm is applied to the permutation flowshop scheduling problem in order to minimize the criteria of makespan and maximum tardiness. For instances involving two machines, the performance of the algorithm is tested against a Branch-and-Bound algorithm proposed in the literature, and for more than two machines it is compared with that of a tabu search algorithm and a genetic local search algorithm, both from the literature. Computational results show that the heuristic yields a better approximation than these algorithms.  相似文献

This paper describes a tabu search heuristic with path relinking for the vehicle routing problem. Tabu search is a local search method that explores the solution space more thoroughly than other local search based methods by overcoming local optima. Path relinking is a method to integrate intensification and diversification in the search. It explores paths that connect previously found elite solutions. Computational results show that tabu search with path relinking is superior to pure tabu search on the vehicle routing problem.  相似文献

Given a CNF (conjunctive normal form) Boolean expression with clauses of size at most two, the Max-2-SAT problem asks to find a truth assignment to the Boolean variables that makes true the maximum number of clauses. In this paper, we describe an innovative upper bound computation procedure which is centered around the use of equations and inequalities that are satisfied by all solutions to the problem. The procedure is incorporated in a branch-and-bound algorithm for Max-2-SAT. An initial solution to the problem is provided by an iterated tabu search heuristic. We present computational experience on the Max-2-SAT benchmark instances from the Max-SAT Evaluation 2007. The results show that the developed branch-and-bound algorithm is very competitive with the best previously reported techniques.  相似文献

资源中断是项目实施过程中一种常见现象,它会导致项目进度计划的变更并引起额外的成本。本文研究资源随机中断下的项目调度问题,目标是对基准进度计划进行合理的调整,以最小化由此所造成的额外成本。作者首先对研究问题进行界定,随后构建问题的优化模型。针对模型的NP-hard属性,设计禁忌搜索启发式算法。最后以基准列表算法和随机生成算法为参照,在随机生成的标准算例集合上对算法进行测试,得到如下结论:在可接受的计算时间范围内,禁忌搜索获得的满意解质量明显高于其他两种启发式算法;算法的平均计算时间随着项目活动数的增加而增加,随着网络复杂度、资源强度或资源中断次数的增加而减小;满意解的平均目标函数值,随着项目活动数或网络复杂度的增加而增加,随着资源中断次数的增加而减小,与资源强度无明显关系。  相似文献

In this paper, we develop new heuristic procedures for the maximum diversity problem (MDP). This NP-hard problem has a significant number of practical applications such as environmental balance, telecommunication services or genetic engineering. The proposed algorithm is based on the tabu search methodology and incorporates memory structures for both construction and improvement. Although proposed in seminal tabu search papers, memory-based constructions have often been implemented in naïve ways that disregard important elements of the fundamental tabu search proposals. We will compare our tabu search construction with a memory-less design and with previous algorithms recently developed for this problem. The constructive method can be coupled with a local search procedure or a short-term tabu search for improved outcomes. Extensive computational experiments with medium and large instances show that the proposed procedure outperforms the best heuristics reported in the literature within short computational times.  相似文献

The maximally diverse grouping problem (MDGP) consists of finding a partition of a set of elements into a given number of mutually disjoint groups, while respecting the requirements of group size constraints and diversity. In this paper, we propose an iterated tabu search (ITS) algorithm for solving this problem. We report computational results on three sets of benchmark MDGP instances of size up to 960 elements and provide comparisons of ITS to five state-of-the-art heuristic methods from the literature. The results demonstrate the superiority of the ITS algorithm over alternative approaches. The source code of the algorithm is available for free download via the internet.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to solve a planning problem faced by many shipping companies dealing with the transport of bulk products. These shipping companies are committed to carrying some contract cargoes and will try to derive additional revenue from optional spot cargoes. An efficient tabu search algorithm has been developed to ensure quick decision support for the planners. The solutions generated by the tabu search heuristic are compared with those produced by a previously published multi-start local search heuristic. Computational results show that the tabu search heuristic yields optimal or near-optimal solutions to real-life instances within reasonable time. For large and tigthly constrained cases, the tabu search heuristic provides much better solutions than the multi-start local search heuristic. A version of the tabu search heuristic will be integrated as an improved solver in a prototype decision support system used by several shipping companies.  相似文献

This paper investigates the circular open dimension problem (CODP), which consists of packing a set of circles of known radii into a strip of fixed width and unlimited length without overlapping. The objective is to minimize the length of the strip. In this paper, CODP is solved by a series of sub-problems, each corresponding to a fixed strip length. For each sub-problem, an iterated tabu search approach, named ITS, is proposed. ITS starts from a randomly generated solution and attempts to gain improvements by a tabu search procedure. After that, if the obtained solution is not feasible, a perturbation operator is subsequently employed to reconstruct the incumbent solution and an acceptance criterion is implemented to determine whether or not accept the perturbed solution. As a supplementary method, the length of the strip is determined in monotonously decreasing way, with the aid of some post-processing techniques. The search terminates and returns the best found solution after the allowed computation time has been elapsed. Computational experiments based on numerous well-known benchmark instances show that ITS produces quite competitive results, with respect to the best known results, while the computational time remains reasonable for each instance.  相似文献

We describe two variants of a tabu search heuristic, a deterministic one and a probabilistic one, for the maximum clique problem. This heuristic may be viewed as a natural alternative implementation of tabu search for this problem when compared to existing ones. We also present a new random graph generator, the -generator, which produces graphs with larger clique sizes than comparable ones obtained by classical random graph generating techniques. In this paper, a tabu search heuristic is combined with slope scaling to solve a discrete depot location problem, known as the multicommodity location problem with balancing requirements. Although the uncapacitated version of this problem has already been addressed in the literature, this is not the case for the more challenging capacitated version, where each depot has a fixed and finite capacity. The slope scaling approach is used during the initialization phase to provide the tabu search with good starting solutions. Numerical results are reported on various types of large-scale randomly generated instances. The quality of the heuristic is assessed by comparing the solutions obtained with those of a commercial mixed-integer programming code.  相似文献

Optimising a train schedule on a single line track is known to be NP-Hard with respect to the number of conflicts in the schedule. This makes it difficult to determine optimum solutions to real life problems in reasonable time and raises the need for good heuristic techniques. The heuristics applied and compared in this paper are a local search heuristic with an improved neighbourhood structure, genetic algorithms, tabu search and two hybrid algorithms. When no time constraints are enforced on solution time, the genetic and hybrid algorithms were within five percent of the optimal solution for at least ninety percent of the test problems.  相似文献

This paper describes a tabu search heuristic for a vehicle routing problem where the owner of a private fleet can either visit a customer with one of his vehicles or assign the customer to a common carrier. The owner’s objective is to minimize the variable and fixed costs for operating his fleet plus the total costs charged by the common carrier. The proposed tabu search is shown to outperform the best approach reported in the literature on 34 benchmark instances with a homogeneous fleet.  相似文献

In this paper we present two new heuristic procedures for the Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem (CVRP). The first one solves the problem from scratch, while the second one uses the information provided by a strong linear relaxation of the original problem. This second algorithm is designed to be used in a branch and cut approach to solve to optimality CVRP instances. In both heuristics, the initial solution is improved using tabu search techniques. Computational results over a set of known instances, most of them with a proved optimal solution, are given.  相似文献
