We interpret the Rodrigues formula describing a torsion of a rigid body in terms of Lie derivatives. We consider a more general situation where vector fields on quadrics (ellipsoids and hyperboloids) are dragged by other vector fields. The question is about the adjoint representation of a Lie group which is more general than the usual torsion group of the threedimensional Euclidean space.  相似文献

Lie-Butcher theory for Runge-Kutta methods   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Runge-Kutta methods are formulated via coordinate independent operations on manifolds. It is shown that there is an intimate connection between Lie series and Lie groups on one hand and Butcher's celebrated theory of order conditions on the other. In Butcher's theory the elementary differentials are represented as trees. In the present formulation they appear as commutators between vector fields. This leads to a theory for the order conditions, which can be developed in a completely coordinate free manner. Although this theory is developed in a language that is not widely used in applied mathematics, it is structurally simple. The recursion for the order conditions rests mainly on three lemmas, each with very short proofs. The techniques used in the analysis are prepared for studying RK-like methods on general Lie groups and homogeneous manifolds, but these themes are not studied in detail within the present paper.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to give a brief introduction to the category of Lie Rinehart algebras and introduces the concept of smooth manifolds associated with a unitary, commutative,associative algebra A.It especially shows that the A-extended algebra as well as the action algebra can be realized as the space of A-left invariant vector fields on a Lie group,analogous to the well known relationship of Lie algebras and Lie groups.  相似文献

Relying on the notion of set-valued Lie bracket introduced in an earlier paper, we extend some classical results valid for smooth vector fields to the case when the vector fields are just Lipschitz. In particular, we prove that the flows of two Lipschitz vector fields commute for small times if and only if their Lie bracket vanishes everywhere (i.e., equivalently, if their classical Lie bracket vanishes almost everywhere). We also extend the asymptotic formula that gives an estimate of the lack of commutativity of two vector fields in terms of their Lie bracket, and prove a simultaneous flow box theorem for commuting families of Lipschitz vector fields.  相似文献

We define a geometry on a group to be an abelian semigroup of symmetric open sets with certain properties. Examples include well-known structures such as invariant Riemannian metrics on Lie groups, hyperbolic groups, and valuations on fields. In this paper we are mostly concerned with geometries where the semigroup is isomorphic to the positive reals, which for Lie groups come from invariant Finsler metrics. We explore various aspects of these geometric groups, including a theory of covering groups for arcwise connected groups, algebraic expressions for invariant metrics and inner metrics, construction of geometries with curvature bounded below, and finding geometrically significant curves in path homotopy classes.

In this paper, we define locally convex vector spaces of weighted vector fields and use them as model spaces for Lie groups of weighted diffeomorphisms on Riemannian manifolds. We prove an easy condition on the weights that ensures that these groups contain the compactly supported diffeomorphisms. We finally show that for the special case where the manifold is the euclidean space, these Lie groups coincide with the ones constructed in the author’s earlier work (Walter, 2012).  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce the notion of a Minkowski Lie algebra, which is the natural generalization of the notion of a real quadratic Lie algebra (metric Lie algebra). We then study the positive definite Minkowski Lie algebras and obtain a complete classification of the simple ones. Finally, we present some applications of our results to Finsler geometry and give a classification of bi-invariant Finsler metrics on Lie groups. We investigate the algebraic structure of complex Lie groups equipped with left-invariant metrics which are expanding semi-algebraic solitons to the Hermitian curvature flow (HCF). We show that the Lie algebras of such Lie groups decompose in the semidirect product of a reductive Lie subalgebra with their nilradicals. Furthermore, we give a structural result concerning expanding semi-algebraic solitons on complex Lie groups. It turns out that the restriction of the soliton metric to the nilradical is also an expanding algebraic soliton and we explain how to construct expanding solitons on complex Lie groups starting from expanding solitons on their nilradicals.  相似文献

This set is endowed with a structure of infinite-dimensional Lie group. In the last two decades much of the algebraic/combinatorial structure of Lie groups, Lie algebras, and their representations has been implemented in several excellent computer algebra packages, including LiE, GAP4, Chevie, Magma, and Maple. The structure of reductive symmetric spaces or more generally symmetric k-varieties is very similar to that of the underlying Lie group, with a few additional complications. A computer algebra package enabling one to do computations related to these symmetric spaces would be an important tool for researchers in many areas of mathematics, including representation theory, Harish Chandra modules, singularity theory, differential and algebraic geometry, mathematical physics, character sheaves, Lie theory, etc.

In this article we lay the groundwork for computing the fine structure of symmetric spaces over the real numbers and other base fields, give a complete set of algorithms for computing the fine structure of symmetric varieties and use this to compute nice bases for the local symmetric varieties.  相似文献

Differential geometry has discovered many objects which determine Lie algebroids playing a role analogous to that of Lie algebras for Lie groups. For example:

--- differential groupoids,

--- principal bundles,

--- vector bundles,

--- actions of Lie groups on manifolds,

--- transversally complete foliations,

--- nonclosed Lie subgroups,

--- Poisson manifolds,

--- some complete closed pseudogroups.

We carry over the idea of Bott's Vanishing Theorem to regular Lie algebroids (using the Chern-Weil homomorphism of transitive Lie algebroids investigated by the author) and, next, apply it to new situations which are not described by the classical version, for example, to the theory of transversally complete foliations and nonclosed Lie subgroups in order to obtain some topological obstructions for the existence of involutive distributions and Lie subalgebras of some types (respectively).

A locally convex Lie algebra is said to be locally exponential if it belongs to some local Lie group in canonical coordinates. In this note we give criteria for locally exponential Lie algebras of vector fields on an infinite-dimensional manifold to integrate to global Lie group actions. Moreover, we show that all necessary conditions are satisfied if the manifold is finite-dimensional connected and σ-compact, which leads to a generalization of Palais’ Integrability Theorem.   相似文献

We study the properties of rigid geometric structures and their relation with those of finite type. The main result proves that for a noncompact simple Lie group G acting analytically on a manifold M preserving a finite volume and either a connection or a geometric structure of finite type there is a nontrivial space of globally defined Killing vector fields on the universal cover that centralize the action of G. We describe the exponential map from an infinite-dimensional Lie algebra to an infinite-dimensional group of operators on a Hilbert space. Notions of differential geometry are introduced for these groups. In particular, the Ricci curvature, which is understood as the limit of the Ricci curvature of finite-dimensional groups, is calculated. We compute the homology of the Lie algebra W 1 of (polynomial) vector fields on the line with coefficients in symmetric powers of its adjoint representation. We prove a general integrability result for matched pairs of Lie algebroids. (Matched pairs of Lie algebras are also known as double Lie algebras or twilled extensions of Lie algebras.) We study the system of nonlinear differential equations which expresses the constancy of the algebraic invariants of the Jacobian matrix for smooth vector fields in three-dimensional space. This system is equivalent to the equations of gas dynamics which describe the barochronous motions of a gas (the pressure and density depend only on the time).
