We prove that it is possible for two uniform algebras to have the same scalar interpolating sets, yet still have different matrix-valued interpolating sets.We prove a result for tensor products of uniform algebras that extends Agler's interpolation formula for the bidisk to more general product domains. This is accomplished by introducing a dual object for interpolation problems, which we call a Schur ideal, and proving that the Schur ideal for a tensor product is the intersection of the corresponding Schur ideals.Research supported in part by a grant from the NSF  相似文献

Characteristic Functions for Ergodic Tuples   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Motivated by a result on weak Markov dilations, we define a notion of characteristic function for ergodic and coisometric row contractions with a one-dimensional invariant subspace for the adjoints. This extends a definition given by G. Popescu. We prove that our characteristic function is a complete unitary invariant for such tuples and show how it can be computed.  相似文献

For the meromorphic generalized resolvent of a linear operator function a reduction is constructed. The spaces generating this reduction are also determined. Two special cases of this reduction are considered.  相似文献

On the Hardy space over the bidisk H2(D2), the Toeplitz operators and are unilateral shifts of infinite multiplicity. A closed subspace M is called a submodule if it is invariant for both and . The two variable Jordan block (S1, S2) is the compression of the pair to the quotient H2(D2) ⊖M. This paper defines and studies its defect operators. A number of examples are given, and the Hilbert-Schmidtness is proved with good generality. Applications include an extension of a Douglas-Foias uniqueness theorem to general domains, and a study of the essential Taylor spectrum of the pair (S1, S2). The paper also estabishes a clean numerical estimate for the commutator [S1*, S2] by some spectral data of S1 or S2. The newly-discovered core operator plays a key role in this study.  相似文献

We consider a selfadjoint and smooth enough operator-valued functionL() on the segment [a, b]. LetL(a)0,L(b)0, and there exist two positive numbers and such that the inequality |(L()f, f)|< ([a, b] f=1) implies the inequality (L'()f, f)>. Then the functionL() admits a factorizationL()=M()(I-Z) whereM() is a continuous and invertible on [a, b] operator-valued function, and operatorZ is similar to a selfadjoint one. This result was obtained in the first part of the present paper [10] under a stronge conditionL()0 ( [a,b]). For analytic functionL() the result of this paper was obtained in [13].  相似文献

This note presents a commutant lifting theorem (CLT) with initial data a finite set of (test) functions and a compatible reproducing kernel k on a set X. This covers the CLT of Ball, Li, Timotin, and Trent [9] for the polydisc, but in general no analyticity is required, rather statements and proofs use the language and techniques of reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces. Uniqueness of the de Branges–Rovnyak construction like found in Agler [1] and Ambrozie, Englis, and Müller [5] and an abstract Beurling Theorem in the present context are of independent interest. In this paper we discuss Weyl matrix balls in the context of the matricial versions of the classical interpolation problems named after Carathéodory and Schur. Our particular focus will be on studying the monotonicity of suitably normalized semi-radii of the corresponding Weyl matrix balls. We, furthermore, devote a fair bit of attention to characterizing the case in which equality holds for particular matricial inequalities. Solving these problems will provide us with a new perspective on the role of the central functions for the classes of Carathéodory and Schur.  相似文献

This paper studies the state space and feedback aspects of linear system decoupling. Given a minimal realization for a proper transfer function W (s), a general procedure is given for the parametrization of all the minimal decouplings of W (s) into two proper subsystems. This completes and unifies known results on factorization and cascade decomposition.  相似文献

Let denote an annulus,E a finite subset of with at least three elements, and the ideal of functions in which vanish at the points ofE. The quotient does not have a completely isometric representation on a finite dimensional Hilbert space. This complements a result of [11] which implies that the quotient has an isometric representation on a Hilbert space of dimension twice the cardinality ofE.  相似文献

In this paper, we use the mosaic of a subnormal operator given by Daoxing Xia to give an alternate definition of the Pincus principal function for pure subnormal operators. This allows us to provide much simplified proofs of some of the basic properties of the principal function and of the Carey-Helton-Howe-Pincus Theorem in the subnormal case.  相似文献

The Fredholmness of a band-dominated operator on is closely related with the invertibility of its limit operators: the operator is Fredholm if and only if each of its limit operators is invertible and if the norms of their inverses are uniformly bounded. The goal of the present note is to show how the Fredholm index of a Fredholm band-dominated operator can be determined in terms of its limit operators.  相似文献

The notion of a quasi-free Hilbert module over a function algebra $\mathcal{A}$ consisting of holomorphic functions on a bounded domain $\Omega$ in complex m space is introduced. It is shown that quasi-free Hilbert modules correspond to the completion of the direct sum of a certain number of copies of the algebra $\mathcal{A}$. A Hilbert module is said to be weakly regular (respectively, regular) if there exists a module map from a quasi-free module with dense range (respectively, onto). A Hilbert module $\mathcal{M}$ is said to be compactly supported if there exists a constant $\beta$ satisfying $\|\varphi f\| \leq \beta \ |\varphi \| \textsl{X} \|f \|$ for some compact subset X of $\Omega$ and $\varphi$ in $\mathcal{A}$, f in $\mathcal{M}$. It is shown that if a Hilbert module is compactly supported then it is weakly regular. The paper identifies several other classes of Hilbert modules which are weakly regular. In addition, this result is extended to yield topologically exact resolutions of such modules by quasi-free ones.  相似文献

We study some structural aspects of the subspaces of the non-commutative (Haagerup) Lp-spaces associated with a general (non-necessarily semi-finite) von Neumann algebra . If a subspace X of contains uniformly the spaces ?pn, n?1, it contains an almost isometric, almost 1-complemented copy of ?p. If X contains uniformly the finite dimensional Schatten classes Spn, it contains their ?p-direct sum too. We obtain a version of the classical Kadec-Pe?czyński dichotomy theorem for Lp-spaces, p?2. We also give operator space versions of these results. The proofs are based on previous structural results on the ultrapowers of , together with a careful analysis of the elements of an ultrapower which are disjoint from the subspace . These techniques permit to recover a recent result of N. Randrianantoanina concerning a subsequence splitting lemma for the general non-commutative Lp spaces. Various notions of p-equiintegrability are studied (one of which is equivalent to Randrianantoanina's one) and some results obtained by Haagerup, Rosenthal and Sukochev for Lp-spaces based on finite von Neumann algebras concerning subspaces of containing ?p are extended to the general case.  相似文献

We consider Hilbert spaces of analytic functions defined on an open subset of , stable under the operator Mu of multiplication by some function u. Given a subspace of which is nearly invariant under division by u, we provide a factorization linking each element of to elements of on the inverse image under u of a certain complex disc, for which we give a relatively simple formula. By applying these results to and u(z) = z, we obtain interesting results involving a H2-norm control. In particular, we deduce a factorization for the kernel of Toeplitz operators on Dirichlet spaces. Finally, we give a localization for the problem of extraneous zeros.Submitted: January 18, 2003 Revised: December 20, 2003  相似文献

Consider a functionL() defined on an interval of the real axis whose values are linear bounded selfadjoint operators in a Hilbert spaceH. A point 0 and a vector 0 H( 0 0) are called eigenvalue and eigenvector ofL() ifL() ifL(0) 0 = 0. Supposing that the functionL() can be represented as an absolutely convergent Fourier integral, the interval is sufficiently small and the derivative will be positive at some point, it has been proved that all the eigenvectors of the operator-functionL() corresponding to the eigenvalues from the interval form an unconditional basis in the subspace spanned by them.  相似文献

Let X be a compact first countable space. In this paper we show that the set of isometries of C(X) that are involutions is algebraically reflexive. As a consequence of a recent work of Botelho and Jamison this leads to the conclusion that the set of generalized bi-circular projections on C(X) is also algebraically reflexive. We also consider these questions for the space C(X,E) where E is a uniformly convex Banach space.  相似文献
