For nonautonomous linear equations x′ = A(t)x, we give a complete characterization of the existence of exponential behavior in terms of Lyapunov functions. In particular, we obtain an inverse theorem giving explicitly Lyapunov functions for each exponential dichotomy. The main novelty of our work is that we consider a very general type of nonuniform exponential dichotomy. This includes for example uniform exponential dichotomies, nonuniform exponential dichotomies and polynomial dichotomies. We also consider the case of different growth rates for the uniform and the nonuniform parts of the dichotomy. As an application of our work, we establish in a very direct manner the robustness of nonuniform exponential dichotomies under sufficiently small linear perturbations.  相似文献

For a nonautonomous dynamics with discrete time obtained from the product of linear operators, we show that a nonuniform exponential contraction can be completely characterized in terms of what we call strict Lyapunov sequences. We note that nonuniform exponential contractions include as a very particular case the uniform exponential contractions that correspond to have a uniform asymptotic stability of the dynamics. We also obtain “inverse theorems” that give explicitly strict Lyapunov sequences for each nonuniform exponential contraction. Essentially, the Lyapunov sequences are obtained in terms of what are usually called Lyapunov norms, that is, norms with respect to which the behavior of a nonuniform exponential contraction becomes uniform. We also show how the characterization of nonuniform exponential contractions in terms of quadratic Lyapunov sequences can be used to establish in a very simple manner the persistence of the asymptotic stability of a nonuniform exponential contraction under sufficiently small linear or nonlinear perturbations. Moreover, we describe an appropriate version of our results in the context of ergodic theory showing that the existence of an eventually strict Lyapunov function implies that all Lyapunov exponents are negative almost everywhere.  相似文献

For the nonautonomous dynamics defined by a sequence of bounded linear operators acting on an arbitrary Hilbert space, we obtain a characterization of the notion of a nonuniform exponential dichotomy in terms of quadratic Lyapunov sequences. We emphasize that, in sharp contrast with previous results, we consider the general case of possibly noninvertible linear operators, thus requiring only the invertibility along the unstable direction. As an application, we give a simple proof of the robustness of a nonuniform exponential dichotomy under sufficiently small linear perturbations.  相似文献

For a linear impulsive differential equation, we give a complete characterization of the existence of a nonuniform exponential contraction in terms of quadratic Lyapunov functions and of the operators defining them. This corresponds to consider a nonuniform exponential stability of the dynamics, which is typical for example in the context of ergodic theory. As an application, we use this characterization to establish in a very simple manner the robustness property of a nonuniform exponential contraction under sufficiently small linear perturbations. In addition, we obtain versions of the robustness property for perturbations of the jumping times and of a strong nonuniform exponential contraction. The latter corresponds to consider not only an upper bound for the dynamics but also a lower bound.  相似文献

Equilibrium problems play a central role in the study of complex and competitive systems. Many variational formulations of these problems have been presented in these years. So, variational inequalities are very useful tools for the study of equilibrium solutions and their stability. More recently a dynamical model of equilibrium problems based on projection operators was proposed. It is designated as globally projected dynamical system (GPDS). The equilibrium points of this system are the solutions to the associated variational inequality (VI) problem. A very popular approach for finding solution of these VI and for studying its stability consists in introducing the so-called "gap-functions", while stability analysis of an equilibrium point of dynamical systems can be made by means of Lyapunov functions. In this paper we show strict relationships between gap functions and Lyapunov functions.  相似文献

Most of the existing results on stochastic stability use a single Lyapunov function, but we shall instead use multiple Lyapunov functions in this paper to establish some sufficient criteria for locating the limit sets of solutions of stochastic differential equations. From them follow many useful results on stochastic asymptotic stability and boundedness, which enable us to construct the Lyapunov functions much more easily in applications. In particular, the well-known classical theorem on stochastic asymptotic stability is a special case of our more general results. These show clearly the power of our new results.  相似文献

We study Lyapunov functions for infinite-dimensional dynamical systems governed by general maximal monotone operators. We obtain a characterization of Lyapunov pairs by means of the associated Hamilton-Jacobi partial differential equations, whose solutions are meant in the viscosity sense, as evolved in works of Tataru and Crandall-Lions. Our approach also leads to a new sufficient condition for Lyapunov pairs, generalizing a classical result of Pazy.  相似文献

We consider the linear cocycle (T, A) induced by a measure preserving dynamical system T : XX and a map A: XSL(2, ℝ). We address the dependence of the upper Lyapunov exponent of (T, A) on the dynamics T when the map A is kept fixed. We introduce explicit conditions on the cocycle that allow to perturb the dynamics, in the weak and uniform topologies, to make the exponent drop arbitrarily close to zero. In the weak topology we deduce that if X is a compact connected manifold, then for a Cr (r ≥ 1) open and dense set of maps A, either (T, A) is uniformly hyperbolic for every T, or the Lyapunov exponents of (T, A) vanish for the generic measurable T. We consider ordinary differential equations (ODEs) with a known Lyapunov function V. To ensure that a numerical integrator reflects the correct dynamical behaviour of the system, the numerical integrator should have V as a discrete Lyapunov function. Only second-order geometric integrators of this type are known for arbitrary Lyapunov functions. It has been proved that a differential system d x / d t = f(t, x) with a discontinuous right-hand side admits some continuous weak Lyapunov function if and only if it is robustly stable. This paper focuses on the smoothness of such a Lyapunov function. An example of an (asymptotically) stable system for which there does not exist any (even weak) Lyapunov functions of class C 1 is given. In the more general context of differential inclusions, the existence of a weak Lyapunov function of class C 1 (or C ) is shown to be equivalent to the robust stability of some perturbed system obtained in introducing measurement error with respect to x and t. This condition is proved to be satisfied by most of the robustly stable systems encountered in the literature. Analogous results are given for the Lagrange stability. As an application to the study of the links between internal and external stability for control systems, an extension of a result by Bacciotti and Beccari is obtained by means of a smooth Lyapunov function associated with a robustly Lagrange stable system.  相似文献

We present a new approach for constructing polytope Lyapunov functions for continuous-time linear switching systems (LSS). This allows us to decide the stability of LSS and to compute the Lyapunov exponent with a good precision in relatively high dimensions. The same technique is also extended for stabilizability of positive systems by evaluating a polytope concave Lyapunov function (“antinorm”) in the cone. The method is based on a suitable discretization of the underlying continuous system and provides both a lower and an upper bound for the Lyapunov exponent. The absolute error in the Lyapunov exponent computation is estimated from above and proved to be linear in the dwell time. The practical efficiency of the new method is demonstrated in several examples and in the list of numerical experiments with randomly generated matrices of dimensions up to 10 (for general linear systems) and up to 100 (for positive systems). The development of the method is based on several theoretical results proved in the paper: the existence of monotone invariant norms and antinorms for positively irreducible systems, the equivalence of all contractive norms for stable systems and the linear convergence theorem.  相似文献

In this paper we address the problem of characterizing the infinitesimal properties of functions which are nonincreasing along all the trajectories of a differential inclusion. In particular, we extend the condition based on the proximal gradient to the case of semicontinuous functions and Lipschitz continuous differential inclusions. Moreover, we show that the same criterion applies also in the case of Lipschitz continuous functions and continuous differential inclusions.  相似文献

The notion of Lyapunov function plays a key role in the design and verification of dynamical systems, as well as hybrid and cyber-physical systems. In this paper, to analyze the asymptotic stability of a dynamical system, we generalize standard Lyapunov functions to relaxed Lyapunov functions (RLFs), by considering higher order Lie derivatives. Furthermore, we present a method for automatically discovering polynomial RLFs for polynomial dynamical systems (PDSs). Our method is relatively complete in the sense that it is able to discover all polynomial RLFs with a given predefined template for any PDS. Therefore it can also generate all polynomial RLFs for the PDS by enumerating all polynomial templates.  相似文献
