Based on the model of a viscoelastic rigid body for the deformable Earth, we investigate the behavior of the main component of the perturbed Earth pole oscillation process, the Chandler wobble. An amplitude- frequency analysis of the perturbed Chandler wobble of the Earth pole due to the precessional motion of the lunar orbit is provided. The parameters of the complex dynamical process that describes the mutual orientation of the Earth’s instantaneous rotation axis, the axis of its figure, and its angular momentum vector are studied qualitatively. Using a numerical-analytical approach, we consider the possibilities for identifying the Chandler wobble parameters and fitting the developed refined theoretical model to the real trajectory measurements of the Earth pole.  相似文献

The methods of theoretical and celestial mechanics and mathematical statistics have been used to prove that the Earth’s motion relative to the center of mass, the polar wobble, in the principal approximation is a combination of two circumferences with a slow trend in the mean position corresponding to the annual and Chandler components. It has been established that the parameters (amplitude and phase shift) of the annual wobble are stable, while those of the Chandler component are less stable and undergo significant variations over the observed time intervals. It has been proven that the behavior of these polar motion parameters is attributable to the gravitational-tidal mechanisms of their excitation.  相似文献

The investigation of non-reciprocal behavior of optical beams in a rotating reference frame was the main motivation of the historic tabletop experiment of George Sagnac. His ground-breaking experiment was extended to a very large installation more than a decade later, which was sensitive enough to allow Michelson, Pearson and Gale to resolve the rotation rate of the Earth by an optical interferometer. With the advent of lasers in the early sixties of the last century, rotating laser cavities with a ring structure demonstrated superior performance and very soon matured to a point where mechanical gyroscopes were quickly superseded by laser gyroscopes in aircraft navigation. When vastly upscaled ring lasers were taken back to the laboratory at the end of the 20th century, the goal of applying the Sagnac effect to geodesy for the monitoring of tiny variations of Earth's rotation was the main motivation. The large-ring laser G, which is the most stable instrument out of a series of instruments built by the New Zealand–German collaboration, routinely resolves the rotation rate of the Earth to better than eight orders of magnitude. Since G is directly referenced to the Earth rotation axis, the effect of diurnal polar motion, the Chandler and the Annual wobbles as well as tilts from the solid Earth tides can be found in the interferogram obtained from the ring laser. G has also demonstrated high sensitivity to rotations associated with seismic events. The toroidal eigenmodes of the Earth when they are excited by large earthquakes have been resolved. A surprisingly large amplitude has been measured for Love wave signals contained in the microseismic background signal. This paper summarizes the recent development of highly sensitive large Sagnac gyroscopes, and presents unique results from the measurements of rotations of the earth.  相似文献

Based on the dynamical Euler-Liouville equations, we consider a numerical-analytical model of the Earth pole oscillations in the first approximation under the gravitational tidal forces from the Sun and the Moon. The dynamics of the Earth pole motion is analyzed by taking into account the pole tide at the Chandler frequency. We note that allowance for the small fluctuation-dissipation perturbations due to the pole tide leads to variations in the Chandler component of the oscillations.  相似文献

Summary An investigation into long series of astronomical latitude and time observations is presented in order to analyse their long-term variations. Decade fluctuations in the Earth's rate of rotation and long-term librations in polar motion (secular drift and Markowitz wobble) are discussed. Available data show a good correlation between observed rotational acceleration of the Earth and the motion of the mean pole over periods of about thirty years.  相似文献

Constant vorticity flows of a uniform fluid in a rigid ellipsoidal container rotating at a variable rate are considered. These include librationally driven and precessionally driven flows. The well-known Poincaré solution for precessionally driven flow in a spheroid is generalized to an ellipsoid with unequal principal axes. The dynamic stability of these flows is investigated, and of other flows in which the angular velocity of the container is constant in time. Solutions for the Chandler wobble are discussed. The role of an invariant, called here the Helmholtzian, is examined.  相似文献

We report on the generation of picosecond optical pulses around 1.55 m using a tuneable actively mode-locked erbium-doped fibre ring laser. Pulse widths of less than 10 ps have been achieved within the wavelength range 1518 to 1570 nm at a pulse repetition rate of 20 GHz. Pulse trains with lower repetition rates have been generated using electrical square-wave signals for driving the electrooptic modulator, resulting in <20 ps pulse widths. The implementation of an all polarization-preserving fibre ring cavity enabled stable and reproducible operation of the laser. Minimization of the overall ring dispersion offers tuneability at nearly constant repetition rate throughout the whole wavelength range. Simple analytic expressions are given that allow for optimization of the ring laser performance with respect to output power, relaxation oscillations and wavelength tuneability at constant repetition rate.  相似文献

In an optical storage ring, a dye laser amplifier synchronously pumped by external laser pulses has been implemented and experimentally tested. The test was done at =580 nm, but the optical system can be used without limitations in a broad band of 400–700 nm. It is shown that a selected turn of the stored laser pulse can be amplified by typically a factor of 200. Power consideration gives an increase of the efficiency of the optical storage ring with a dye amplifying cell, as compared to a single passage of the laser pulse through the experimental section, by 23 times and it is shown that it can reach a factor of more than 100. A self-frequency-locked laser in a 1.55 m band is demonstrated by adding a segment of samarium-doped fibre (SDF) into an erbium-doped fibre (EDF) ring laser cavity. The narrow band output signal, with a 3 dB down line width of less than 0.15 nm and a side-mode suppression ratio larger than 30 dB, is nearly polarization independent. A multiwavelength EDF ring laser source, using a 1×n synchronous optical switch and n segments of SDF with different lengths, is proposed.  相似文献

We report on hyperfine structure measurements in 21 lines of atomic niobium in the spectral region from 640 nm to 870 nm by means of optogalvanic laser spectroscopy and laser induced fluorescence spectroscopy using a hollow cathode discharge and a tunable single-mode cw ring laser. Hyperfine structure constants A and B of altogether 29 excited energy levels were determined, 18 of them for the first time. We present a 10-GHz hybrid actively and passively mode-locked fiber ring laser with a dispersion im-balanced nonlinear loop mirror (DI-NOLM), whose nonlinear switching characteristic can make the laser operate at additive pulse modelocking (APM) mode or additive pulse limiting (APL) mode. When the laser operated at APM, 5.45 ps of transform-limited pulse series were obtained. When the laser was biased at APL region, supermode noise was suppressed and the laser output was more stable.  相似文献

Chandler, Weeks and Andersen have recently developed a successful perturbation theory of liquids. In their theory, the radial distribution function of the reference fluid is calculated from that of the hard-sphere fluid. In their published work, the Percus-Yevick theory is used to calculate the hard-sphere radial distribution function. In this paper, the Percus-Yevick theory is used to calculate directly the thermodynamic properties and radial distribution function of the reference fluid. If the Carnahan and Starling averaging procedure is used, the Percus-Yevick thermodynamic properties are excellent. However, the radial distribution function shows the same discrepancies as that of Chandler, Weeks and Andersen. Finally, recent calculations of Chandler, Weeks and Andersen, using the Monte Carlo estimates of the hardsphere radial distribution function are shown to give good results for the reference fluid distribution function. This indicates that the Percus-Yevick theory, rather than fundamental errors in the Chandler, Weeks and Andersen theory, is responsible for the discrepancies.  相似文献

A new target design concept is proposed for direct-drive implosions while the National Ignition Facility is in its initial, indirect-drive configuration. It differs from earlier "polar-direct-drive" designs by adding a low-Z ring around the capsule equator. Refraction in the plasma formed around this ring permits time-dependent tuning of the capsule drive uniformity. An optimized simulation shows an implosion-velocity nonuniformity at the end of the laser pulse of approximately 1% rms for a cryogenic deuterium-tritium shell, enhancing the prospects for an early direct-drive ignition demonstration on the National Ignition Facility.  相似文献

Based on a numerical-analytical model of the terrestrial pole oscillations, we investigate the effects of fluctuation-dissipation perturbations due to the pole tide. We consider the fluctuation perturbations at a frequency close to the Chandler one using the sea level data as an example. Allowance for the small irregular perturbations in tidal processes is shown to lead to variations in the Chandler component of the oscillations. We note that the amplitude of the Chandler pole oscillations is sensitive to the difference of the Chandler frequency and a frequency close to it and to the dissipation coefficients.  相似文献

Bilger et al (1995), Anderson et al (1994) and Michelson–Gale assisted by Pearson (1925) measure / mention Sagnac effect on the circuital light /laser beams on the spinning Earth. But from the consideration of classical electrodynamics, the effect measured /mentioned by those experimenters is the Coriolis effect, not the Sagnac effect. A simple experiment is suggested here that can easily settle the problem.  相似文献

Abstract: Laser resonator is very important in the study and fabrication of lasers. The work conditions and work parameters of rare-earth element-doped optical fiber lasers with two different structures of laser resonators, i. e., the fiber ring resonator and Fabry-Perot resonator are studied. The fineness, laser resonant conditions, laser oscillation conditions and threshold inversion of these two different cavity are deduced. A series of experiments are also given. The result is very valuable to evaluate the output of optical fiber laser and can be a foundation of device fabrication. The Nd~(3 )-doped silica single-mode fiber laser pumped by Ar~ laser with a low threshold of 1.02 mW and a maximum output of more than 1 mW are presented in this paper.  相似文献

提出了一种控制环形激光器光学腔长的新方法.该方法是利用压电陶瓷电控环形激光器毛细管内干燥空气的折射率,实现对环形激光器光学腔长的控制.这种控制方法对环形激光器性能影响很小,具有响应速度快、灵敏度高、功耗低等优点,可用于全反射棱镜式环形激光器、反射镜式环形激光器的稳频系统.对于激光陀螺、激光计量等应用具有重要意义.  相似文献
