Sulphur K-edge X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) spectroscopy was used to identify sulphur compounds in PM10 samples collected simultaneously at two sites with different environmental situations in the province of Trieste (NE of Italy), during summer and winter seasons respectively. The first site is an industrial site located near a steel mill plant and the second is a coastal site. The sulphur speciation at the industrial site has shown the presence of the following sulphur compounds in both seasons: organic compounds (thiophenes or Polycyclic Aromatic Sulphur Heterocycles — PAHs) and sulphates while in the winter season sulphites were also present. In the coastal site organic compounds (thiophenes or PASHs) and sulphate were found during winter season, moreover bisulphates were found during summer season. Relative percentages of the different sulphur compounds have shown that sulphate is the most abundant form of sulphur in the industrial site samples during both seasons and in the coastal site sample collected during the winter season (> 98%); in the coastal site sample collected during the summer season the relative percentages of bisulphate and sulphate were around 40% and 60% respectively.   相似文献

Pilocarpus microphyllus (Rutaceae), popularly known as jaborandi, is the only commercial source of an imidazole alkaloid named pilocarpine. In the present study, the variation in the profile of imidazole alkaloids in different seasons and in different parts of the P. microphyllus plant during the summer was analyzed by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry in the positive ion mode [ESI(+)-MS]. The fingerprints of these extracts repeatedly presented similar ions which were mass-selected and studied by tandem mass spectrometry (ESI-MS/MS and ESI-MS/MS/MS) and high-resolution mass spectrometry, resulting in the characterization of eight imidazole alkaloids. The data from the ESI(+)-MS fingerprints were analyzed by principal component analysis (PCA), showing that pilocarpine was present mainly in the summer, whereas in the autumn mainly pilosine and winter anhydropilosine were found. Three alkaloids, reported for the first time in extracts of P. microphyllus, were found. Analysis of the distribution of alkaloids in different parts of the plant during the summer showed that, although pilocarpine was present throughout the plant, 13-nor-8(11)-dihydropilocarpine was found mainly in the stem, pilosine and anhydropilosine were present mainly in the intermediary leaves, and the three new alkaloids were mainly found in the leaflets and petioles. Based on the dissociation patterns of these alkaloids, we observed that there were three structurally related groups of alkaloids differing in their distribution in the plant tissues and responding differently to seasonal variations. These results also indicate that these three groups of alkaloids could belong to intermediate, parallel or competitive pathways for pilocarpine formation biosynthesis.  相似文献

The potential for badger urine to signal olfactory information relating to sex, age class and seasonality was investigated by performing GCMS headspace analysis followed by pattern recognition statistical analysis on 84 urine samples collected from different categories of animal. Approximately 300 compounds were identified using library searching, and GCMS peak areas were recorded for the 33 most common. PCA was performed on the normalised and standardised data from all badgers, through which significant seasonal trends and groupings of homologous series of compounds were detected. PCA was also performed on the three subgroups of adults in the spring, summer and autumn, and a level of sexual discrimination was possible during the latter two seasons. Malanobis distances on the scores of the first five principal components provided good discrimination for these three subgroups, but discrimination was poor when all samples were analysed together. This, combined with the initial results of the PCA, confirms that a strong seasonal trend is imposed upon the sexual trend in this dataset. Our initial analysis indicates that badger urine potentially contains olfactory cues relating to sex and season. The relevance of these findings to understanding olfactory communication in mammals is discussed.  相似文献

Cesium isotopes and90Sr have been determined in the inflow and outflow rivers of a Norwegian subalpine lake. The lake is situated in an area contaminated by Chernobyl fallout. Sampling was carried out during the spring peak discharge period associated with snowmelt. Transported coatse particulate plant material was collected by traps. Particles and colloids were removed from water samples by hollow fibre ultrafiltration. The results illustrate that run-off during the spring snowmelt is an important pathway for these radionuclides. The cesium isotopes are predominantly transported as colloids, while90Sr is present in the form of low molecular weight mobile species. Based on lake budget calculations, more than 50% of the cesium input is retained in the lake, while more than 90% of the90Sr is transported through the lake and into lower parts of the drainage system.  相似文献

Lamiophlomis rotata (Benth.) Kudo (L. rotata) belongs to Lamiaceae family, which is an important medicinal plant endemic to Qinghai Tibet Plateau. Traditionally, the whole herb of L. rotata is used for medicine, especially for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in clinical practise. As a result of absolute digging, the plant has a long regeneration cycle after excavation and the damage to plateau grassland ecological environment is difficult to recover. It has been encouraged to use aerial part of the plant with the purpose of protecting environment and maintaning biological diversity. At present, researchers have compared the primary metabolites and iridoids between aerial parts and roots, but there are few reports on the chemical differences and activity comparison of secondary metabolites. In order to characterize the secondary metabolites of different parts, UPLC/Q-Orbitrap-MS was employed to collect data from the extracts of aerial parts and roots, in combination with plant metabolomics technology to screen and quantify differential metabolites. At the same time, network pharmacological analysis with rheumatoid arthritis and immunity as the key words was carried out according to the identification results to clarify the active ingredients of L. rotata in the treatment of RA, so as to speculate the pharmacological effects of aerial parts and roots based on the distribution of active components. A total of 16 potential markers were selected and identified to differentiate two parts. Among them, 8 characteristic flavonoids with similar skeletons were unique in aerial parts, while the other 8 components, including 2 iridoid glycosides and 6 phenylethanoid glycosides, were detected in both aerial parts and roots, but with differentiate contents. Among the predicted 6 active components, there were 5 flavonoids, of which 3 (namely luteolin, apigenin and 2″-acetylastragalin) were still differential metabolites and mainly distributed in the aerial parts. The results revealed that certain flavonoids as potential markers made a distinction between aerial part and root of L. rotata, and were the main active components against RA, which provided a theoretical basis for the aerial parts to replace the whole herbs, and laid a material foundation for further pharmacological research.  相似文献

We carried out experiments to evaluate seasonal changes in the impacts of UV radiation (UVR, 280–400 nm) on photosynthetic carbon fixation of phytoplankton assemblages. Surface water samples were obtained in the coastal area of the South China Sea, where chlorophyll a ranged 0.72–3.82 μg L−1. Assimilation numbers (photosynthetic carbon fixation rate per chl a) were significantly higher during summer 2005 than those in spring and winter 2004. The mean values obtained under photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) were 2.83 (spring 2004), 4.35 (winter 2004) and 7.29 μg C (μg chl a)−1 h−1 (summer 2005), respectively. The assimilation numbers under PAR + UVR were 1.58, 2.71 and 5.28 μg C (μg chl a)−1 h−1, for spring, winter and summer, respectively. UVR induced less inhibition of photosynthesis during summer 2005 than during the other seasons, in spite of the higher UVR during summer. The seasonal differences in the productivity and photosynthetic response to UV were mainly due to changes in water temperature, while irradiance and vertical mixing explained >80% of the observed variability. Our data suggest that previous studies in the SCS using UV-opaque vessels might have overestimated the phytoplankton production by about 80% in spring, 61% in winter and 38% in summer.  相似文献

Plant research interest has increased all over the world, and a large body of evidence has been collected to show the huge potential of medicinal plants in various disease treatments. Medicago sativa L., known as alfalfa, is a rich source of biologically active components and secondary metabolites and was frequently used from the ancient times both as fodder crop and as a traditional medicine in the treatment of various diseases. Cyclitols, naturally occurring in this plant, have a particular interest for us due to their significant anti‐diabetic, antioxidant, anti‐inflammatory, and anti‐cancer properties. In the present study we revealed the isolation, the identification, and the quantification of some cyclitols and sugars extracted from different morphological parts of alfalfa plant. Soxhlet extraction and solid phase extraction were used as extraction and purification methods, while for the analyses derivatization followed by gas chromatography with mass spectrometry was involved. The obtained results showed significant differences in the quantities of cyclitols and sugars found in the investigated morphological parts, ranging between 0.02 and 13.86 mg/g of plant in case of cyclitols, and in the range of 0.09 and 40.09 mg/g of plant for sugars. However, roots have the richest part of cyclitols and sugars in contrast to the leaves.  相似文献

This paper describes the use of cold-neutron prompt-gamma activation analysis (CNPGAA) to determine carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus in the aquatic plant Typha domingensis, commonly known as cattail, during spring and fall seasons. According to studies of the Florida Everglades, cattail replaces sawgrass as a result of nutrient enrichment from farm water runoff. Nutrient enrichment, especially phosphorus, in sediment and the water column can lead to undesirable expansion. Early signs of this expansion are apparent in the Apalachicola River floodplain near Apalachicola, Florida, USA. This research project is designed to use cattails as biomonitors of nutrient enrichment in the lower Apalachicola River floodplain. Determination of carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus in cattail using cold neutron prompt-gamma activation has been developed in our previous studies at the CNPGAA facility at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), USA. The results of numerous field samples, collected from the study area during spring and fall seasons in 2002, will be presented in this paper.  相似文献

Heavy metal contents (Fe, Mn, Cu, Pb and Cd) were determined in two brown macroalgal species (Cystoseira crinita and Cystoseira barbata). Samples were collected during six seasons from spring 1996 to summer 2000 from five different sites of the Bulgarian Black Sea coastal zone – Tuzlata, Ravda, Sozopol, Ahtopol and Sinemoretz. The local and seasonal metal distribution and their variations were examined.

The data obtained indicate that the two investigated species demonstrate various degrees of metal accumulation and can be used as indicators for the type and quantity of anthropogenic contamination in marine ecosystems.  相似文献

In the present work are reported the results of a monitoring on a vast scale, carried out through evaluation of opportune chemical parameters, of the pollution state of the agricultural-industrial settlement of the Fucino Plain. The parameters took into consideration have been the presence of wide consumption pesticides and of ionic species as Cl-, NO2-, NO3-, NH4+, the quantification of the dissolved oxygen, of the temperature, of the conductivity, of pH and eH. Collected data are used for chemometric elaboration. The water systems examined, by means of drawing campaigns carried out at regular intervals in winter, spring, summer, and autumnal seasons, are represented by superficial waters constituting a network of irrigation canals fed by stratum and meteoric waters. Decoctions of the aerial parts of either Bupleurum rigidum or B. fruticescens are equally used in certain parts of Spain for the treatment of topical and musculoskeletal inflammations. In the present paper, their phytochemical profile and pharmacological value has been compared. After chromatographic and spectral analyses we could establish the presence of rutin and absence of chlorogenic acid in B. fruticescens, whilst the contrary applies to B. rigidum, providing a means to chemically differentiate extracts and dry materials from the two species. Their free radical scavenging and antiperoxidative activities were similar, with B. fruticescens being more active overall. The infusions of both Bupleurum species also showed similar anti-inflammatory activity when tested by NF-kappaB assay (40% and 42% at 60 microg x mL(-1)), as well as in a hexosaminidase exocytosis assay (30% at 50 microg x mL(-1)). Antimigratory effects on rat melanoma B16F10 showed significant activity for both infusions, with B. rigidum twice as potent as B. fruticescens, the activity of the latter not being fully explained by its content of rutin. Taking all these results together, we can conclude that, in the selected experimental models, there exist an in vitro bioequivalence of the infusions from both species, which is in agreement with the majority of ethnopharmacological reports.  相似文献

Isothermal and Differential Scanning Calorimetry is applied to analyze the evolution of soil using its microorganisms and organic matter as bioindicators of soil quality. This study was carried out with two similar soils under different agricultural activities: culture and pasture. Sampling and measurements were performed through 1 year in order to check the sensitivity of common calorimetric indicators of microbial activity and organic matter to the different climatic seasons in the sampling place: spring, summer, fall and winter. Results show that these indicators are sensitive to changes related to climatic conditions but the variability depended also on the nature of the soil: pasture or agricultural land. The results achieved through the present study show that the procedure here proposed could be used on any soil everywhere, providing the determination of the own parameters of soil and zones.  相似文献

Translocation and percent distribution of137Cs in different parts of the tea plant have been investigated from the foliar aborption and root uptake in Chemobyl contaiminated soil during 1987–1994. The results showed that the transfer of the radionuclide from soil to the plant occurred only in the roots during this long period. On the other hand, the present data confirmed that the new leaves of the plant directly accumulated137Cs from the stem in growing seasons after translocation into the stem from leaves during the Chemobyl accident. The natural depuration rate of137Cs in the stem part of tea plant is estimated as on effective half-life 1750 days.  相似文献

The focus of the present study was on the influence of season on yield, chemical composition, antioxidant and antifungal activities of Omani basil (Ocimum basilicum) oil. The present study involved only one of the eight Omani basil varieties. The hydro-distilled essential oil yields were computed to be 0.1%, 0.3% and 0.1% in the winter, spring and summer seasons, respectively. The major components identified were L- linalool (26.5-56.3%), geraniol (12.1-16.5%), 1,8-cineole (2.5-15.1%), p-allylanisole (0.2-13.8%) and DL-limonene (0.2-10.4%). A noteworthy extra component was beta- farnesene, which was exclusively detected in the oil extracted during winter and spring at 6.3% and 5.8%, respectively. The essential oil composition over the different seasons was quite idiosyncratic, in which the principal components of one season were either trivial or totally absent in another. The essential oil extracted in spring exhibited the highest antioxidant activity (except DPPH scavenging ability) in comparison with the oils from other seasons. The basil oil was tested against pathogenic fungi viz. Aspergillus niger, A. fumigatus, Penicillium italicum and Rhizopus stolonifer using a disc diffusion method, and by determination of minimum inhibitory concentration. Surprisingly high antifungal values were found highlighting the potential of Omani basil as a preservative in the food and medical industries.  相似文献

In most cases the pharmacological activity of plant extracts is not assigned to single components and often not all active ingredients are known. Approaches other than those considering single compounds only to analyze plant material have proven helpful for a better characterization of extracts in their entirety. In this study extracts of willow bark are analyzed by high-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC) and two different pharmacological tests [the 2,2'-azobis (2-amidinopropane) dihydrochloride reaction and the xanthine/xanthine oxidase reaction] with the help of multivariate data analysis. Described are two models using the results of the chromatographic study of 22 various extracts of willow bark and their pharmacological properties. The chromatographic data are obtained by a special TLC scanner that enables measurement of HPTLC tracks simultaneously in the range of lambda = 200-400 nm. Additionally, the developed models are used to predict the activity of another three extracts of willow bark demonstrating the quality of the model.  相似文献

Measurement of concentration of radon and thoron daughter products in various indoor environment covering four seasons of a year in Udagamandalam Taluk of Nilgiris biosphere has been carried out using a high volume air sampler to asses the inhalation dose to the population which delivers higher dose than the radon and thoron gas alone. The potential alpha-energy concentrations of the radon and thoron progeny ranged from 0.97 to 12.72 mWL and from 1.63 to 15.83 mWL with a geometric mean of 6.02 and 7.89 mWL, respectively, taking all seasons into account. These measurements have yielded a wealth of data on the variation among the indoor radon and thoron progeny in various places during different seasons. The radon and thoron progeny levels are higher in winter seasons and are less in summer season with autumn and spring data lie in between winter and summer. Using the dose conversion factor for indoor exposures given in UNSCEAR 93 report the internal equivalent dose to the inhalation of radon progeny is evaluated to be 1357 mSv.y–1 and the corresponding annual effective dose equivalent value has been found to be 2.13 mSv.y–1. It can be observed that the mean value of radon is higher than the Indian average. Also it is found the radon and thoron progeny levels are higher in the case of houses built with rock and granite and in tiled type houses of nearly 100 years old. The levels are less in the case of houses built with brick and cement. The observed results for different types of houses and seasons are discussed in this paper.  相似文献

Melanoma is a serious form of skin cancer that begins in cells known as melanocytes. While it is less common than the other forms of skin cancer, melanoma is more dangerous because of its ability to spread to other organs more rapidly if it is not treated at an early stage. The number of people diagnosed with melanoma has increased over the last few decades. The most widely used treatments include surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. The search for new drugs to treat various cancers is one of the most important challenges of modern scientific research. Some isoquinoline alkaloids found in different plant species have strong cytotoxic effects on various cancer cells. We tested the effect of isoquinoline alkaloids and extracts obtained from various parts of Mahonia aquifolium collected in various vegetation seasons on human melanoma cancer cells and our data indicated that investigated extract induced significant reduction in cell viability of Human malignant melanoma cells (A375), human Caucasian malignant melanoma cell line (G361), and human malignant melanoma cell line (SKMEL3 cancer cell lines in a dose- and time-dependent manner. Differences in cytotoxic activity were observed for extracts obtained from various parts of Mahonia aquifolium. Significant differences were also obtained in the alkaloids content and cytotoxic activity of the extracts depending on the season of collection of plant material. Our investigations exhibit that these plant extracts can be recommended for further in vivo experiments in order to confirm the possibility of their use in the treatment of human melanomas.  相似文献

Fucus spiralis that was collected in the four seasons was submitted to an extraction with ethanol:water (crude extracts Et80), followed by a liquid–liquid fractionation with organic solvents (fraction He from n-hexane; aqueous fractions AQ1, AQ2, AQ3 and AQ4; ethyl acetate fraction EA), with the aim of obtaining phlorotannin-enriched extracts. All the extracts (Et80, He, AQ1, AQ2, AQ3, AQ4 and EA) that were obtained for the F. spiralis of the four seasons were evaluated for their antioxidant capacity and total phenolic compounds. The summer extracts presented the highest contents in polyphenols (TPC), as well as the highest ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), when compared to the samples from the other seasons. The reductive percentage of the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl-hydrate) compound was similar between the seasons. For all the seasons, the EA extract showed the highest polyphenol content (TPC), and the highest antioxidant capacity (highest ferric reducing power (FRAP) and lowest concentration needed to reduce 50% of the DPPH compound), which is in agreement with a phlorotannin-enriched fraction. This study revealed that the polyphenol content and antioxidant power of the F. spiralis extracts are influenced by the time of harvest, as well as by the solvents used for their extraction.  相似文献

Clerodendrum viscosum is widely distributed in tropical and subtropical regions of the world particularly in India. Extracts from different parts of the plant have been used elaborately in Ayurveda and Unani for treating different illness. Many phytochemicals were isolated from various parts of the plant, but their pharmacological potentials have not been largely explored. This review focuses on all these aspects of the plant keeping in view the cultural and traditional acceptability of its medicinal use. Its toxicological data are limited and require investigation to address for safety issues prior to recommendating for pharmaceutical use.  相似文献
