We obtain the vacuum expectation values of the energy–momentum tensor for a scalar field arbitrarily coupled to a curvature in the case of an N-dimensional quasi-Euclidean space–time; the vacuum is defined in accordance with the Hamiltonian diagonalization method. We extend the n-wave procedure to the many-dimensional case. We find all the counterterms in the case N=5 and the counterterms for the conformal scalar field in the cases N=6,7. We determine the geometric structure of the first three counterterms in the N-dimensional case. We show that all the subtractions in the four-dimensional case and the first three subtractions in the many-dimensional case correspond to the renormalization of the parameters in the bare gravitational Lagrangian. We discuss the geometric structure of the other counterterms in the many-dimensional case and the problem of eliminating the conformal anomaly in the four-dimensional case.  相似文献

We study the free boundary problem for a contact discontinuity for the system of relativistic magnetohydrodynamics. A surface of contact discontinuity is a characteristic of this system with no flow across the discontinuity for which the pressure, the velocity and the magnetic field are continuous whereas the density, the entropy and the temperature may have a jump. For the two-dimensional case, we prove the local-in-time existence in Sobolev spaces of a unique solution of the free boundary problem provided that the Rayleigh-Taylor sign condition on the jump of the normal derivative of the pressure is satisfied at each point of the initial discontinuity.  相似文献

We analyze the simplest free boundary problem of magnetohydrodynamics governing the evolution of an isolated mass of a viscous incompressible liquid in the presence of the magnetic field. The motion of the liquid is governed by the Navier–Stokes equations, and for the magnetic field we have the Maxwell equations with an excluded displacement current. The magnetic field should be determined not only in the domain filled with the liquid, but also in the surrounding vacuum region. On the free boundary of the liquid standard jump conditions for the magnetic field are prescribed, as well as kinematic and dynamic boundary conditions, where the magnetic stress tensor is taken into account. We prove that the solution corresponding to a rigid rotation of the fluid and to zero magnetic field is stable if the functional of potential energy has a positive second variation. We derive a global regularity theorem for stress fields which correspond to minimizers of convex and some special nonconvex variational problems with mixed boundary conditions on admissible domains. These are Lipschitz domains satisfying additional geometric conditions near those points, where the type of the boundary conditions changes. In the first part it is assumed that the energy densities defining the variational problem are convex but not necessarily strictly convex and satisfy a convexity inequality. The regularity result for this case is derived with a difference quotient technique. In the second part the regularity results are carried over from the convex case to special nonconvex variational problems taking advantage of the relation between nonconvex variational problems and the corresponding (quasi-) convexified problems. The results are applied amongst others to the variational problems for linear elasticity, the p-Laplace operator, Hencky elasto-plasticity with linear hardening and for scalar and vectorial two-well potentials (compatible case).   相似文献

A new approximation of the logarithmic derivative of the Hankel function is derived and applied to high-frequency wave scattering. We re-derive the on surface radiation condition (OSRC) approximations that are well suited for a Dirichlet boundary in acoustics. These correspond to the Engquist–Majda absorbing boundary conditions. Inverse OSRC approximations are derived and they are used for Neumann boundary conditions. We obtain an implicit OSRC condition, where we need to solve a tridiagonal system. The OSRC approximations are well suited for moderate wave numbers. The approximation of the logarithmic derivative is also used for deriving a generalized physical optics approximation, both for Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions. We have obtained similar approximations in electromagnetics, for a perfect electric conductor. Numerical computations are done for different objects in 2D and 3D and for different wave numbers. The improvement over the standard physical optics is verified.  相似文献

We consider a boundary value problem for harmonic functions outside cuts on the plane. The jump of the normal derivative and a linear combination of the normal derivative on one side with the jump of the unknown function are given on each cut. The problem is considered with three conditions at infinity, which lead to distinct results on the existence and number of solutions. We obtain an integral representation of the solution in the form of potentials whose density satisfies a uniquely solvable Fredholm integral equation of the second kind.  相似文献

We consider a reaction-diffusion system of the activator-inhibitor type with unilateral boundary conditions leading to a quasivariational inequality. We show that there exists a positive eigenvalue of the problem and we obtain an instability of the trivial solution also in some area of parameters where the trivial solution of the same system with Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions is stable. Theorems are proved using the method of a jump in the Leray-Schauder degree.  相似文献

The problem of diffraction of a creeping wave propagating in a domain near the convex part of the boundary and overrunning a point where the convex boundary transforms to the concave one is studied. The tangent to the boundary is continuous at this point, but the derivative of the tangent has the jump. The Green's function to the right of the point of jump of curvature is a superposition of whispering gallery waves. The Dirichlet, Neumann, and impedance boundary conditions are considered. The formulas for the boundary current and for the diffraction coefficients related to the problem are obtained. Bibliography: 3 titles. Under consideration is the first order linear inhomogeneous differential equation in an abstract Banach space with a degenerate operator at the derivative, a relatively p-radial operator at the unknown function, and a continuous delay operator. We obtain conditions of unique solvability of the Cauchy problem and the Showalter problem by means of degenerate semigroup theory methods. These general results are applied to the initial boundary value problems for systems of integrodifferential equations of the type of phase field equations.  相似文献

We analyse transonic solutions of the one-dimensional Euler–Poisson model for a collisionless gas of charged particles in the non-isentropic steady-state case. The model consists of the conservation of mass, momentum and energy equations. The electric field is modelled self-consistently (Coulomb field). Boundary conditions on the particle density and particle temperature are imposed. The analysis is based on representing solutions piecewise as orbits in the particle-density-electric-field phase plane and connecting the orbit segments by the jump and entropy conditions. We characterize the set of all solutions of the Euler–Poisson problem. In particular, we show that, depending upon the length of the interval on which the boundary value problem is posed, fully subsonic, one-shock and (in certain cases) two-shock transonic and smooth transonic solutions exist. Also, numerical computations illustrating the structure of the solutions are reported.  相似文献

We study sufficient conditions for the unique solvability of the inverse coefficient problem. We obtain various global sufficient conditions in the form of constraints on the signs of the given functions and their derivatives. As a corollary, we consider statements of inverse coefficient problems with overdetermination on the boundary, where the Dirichlet conditions are supplemented with the vanishing condition for the normal derivative on part of the boundary. We prove sufficient conditions for the existence of a solution in this case.  相似文献

In a recent paper, Agranovich, Denk and Faierman dealt with a priori estimates, completeness, Abel-Lidskii summability, and eigenvalue asymptotics for scalar elliptic boundary eigenvalue problems involving discontinuous weights. Here we extend these results to the matrix valued case with a diagonal discontinuous weight matrix. The given region is subdivided into subregions on which the weights are continuous. Whereas in the scalar case the usual ellipticity conditions suffice to obtain a priori estimates, a counterexample shows that here transmission conditions at the boundaries of the subregions are also needed. We propose a general approach for solving the basic magnetostatic equation in the case of nonhomogeneous magnetic solids when their magnetic permeability depends on the coordinates. Seeking the strength of the resulting field reduces to finding two scalar functions satisfying a system of one integral and one differential equation with certain boundary conditions. Using this approach, we obtain an analytic solution of the magnetostatic equation for a ball with a model permeability in an arbitrary external field.  相似文献

We study a boundary value problem for an inhomogeneous parabolic-hyperbolic equation with a noncharacteristic type change line. Boundary conditions of the first kind are posed on characteristics in the parabolic and hyperbolic parts of the domain where the equation is given, and a condition of the third kind is posed on the noncharacteristic part of the boundary in the parabolic part. First, we study the solvability of an inhomogeneous initial–boundary value problem for a parabolic equation.  相似文献

We consider acoustic scattering problems described by the mixed boundary value problem for the scalar Helmholtz equation in the exterior of a 2D bounded domain or in the exterior of a crack. The boundary of the domain is assumed to have a finite set of corner points where the scattered wave may have singular behaviour. The paper is concerned with the sensitivity of the far‐field pattern with respect to small perturbations of the shape of the scatterer. Using a modification of the method of adjoint problems, we obtain an integral representation for the Gâteaux derivative which contains only boundary values of functions easily computable by standard BEM and which depends explicitly on the perturbation of the boundary. In some cases, we show the direct influence of the singularities of the solution on the sensitivity of the far‐field pattern. In this way, we generalize the domain sensitivity analysis developed earlier for smooth domains by Hettlich, Kirsch, Kress, Potthast and others. Finally, we show that the same approach can be applied to scattering from 3D domains with smooth edges. Copyright © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We present and analyze a new fictitious domain model for the Brinkman or Stokes/Brinkman problems in order to handle general jump embedded boundary conditions (J.E.B.C.) on an immersed interface. Our model is based on algebraic transmission conditions combining the stress and velocity jumps on the interface Σ separating two subdomains: they are well chosen to get the coercivity of the operator. It is issued from a generalization to vector elliptic problems of a previous model stated for scalar problems with jump boundary conditions (Angot (2003, 2005) [2], [3]). The proposed model is first proved to be well-posed in the whole fictitious domain and some sub-models are identified. A family of fictitious domain methods can be then derived within the same unified formulation which provides various interface or boundary conditions, e.g. a given stress of Neumann or Fourier type or a velocity Dirichlet condition. In particular, we prove the consistency of the given-traction E.B.C. method including the so-called do nothing outflow boundary condition.  相似文献

We obtain sufficient conditions for the existence of at least one absolutely continuous solution of a nonlinear functional-differential inclusion in a finite-dimensional space with nonlinear set-valued functional boundary conditions. The set-valuedness of the dynamics may be due to the presence of a control. In addition, we consider the case in which the set-valuedness of the system dynamics and the boundary conditions is specified by inequalities. We assume the presence of a continuous feedback and impose the requirements of solvability of the open-loop problem. Statements of problems of this type arise in connection with the analysis of conflict-control systems.  相似文献

We consider a dam process with a general (state dependent) release rule and a pure jump input process, where the jump sizes are state dependent. We give sufficient conditions under which the process has a stationary version in the case where the jump times and sizes are governed by a marked point process which is point (Palm) stationary and ergodic. We give special attention to the Markov and Markov regenerative cases for which the main stability condition is weakened. We then study an intermittent production process with state dependent rates. We provide sufficient conditions for stability for this process and show that if these conditions are satisfied, then an interesting new relationship exists between the stationary distribution of this process and a dam process of the type we explore here.Supported in part by The Israel Science Foundation, grant no. 372/93-1.  相似文献

We consider a scalar linear second-order ordinary differential equation whose coefficient of the second derivative may change its sign when vanishing. For this equation, we obtain sufficient conditions for the existence of a periodic solution in the case of arbitrary periodic inhomogeneity.  相似文献
