We study the behavior of two archetypal quantum spin glasses at T = 0 by exact diagonalization techniques: the random Ising model in a transverse field and the random Heisenberg model. The behavior of the dynamical spin response is obtained in the spin-glass ordered phase. In both models it is gapless and has the general form chi(")(omega) = qdelta(omega)+chi(")(reg)(omega), with chi(")(reg)(omega) approximately omega for the Ising and chi(")(reg)(omega) approximately const for the Heisenberg, at low frequencies. The method provides new insight to the physical nature of the low-lying excitations.  相似文献

We present a 14N nuclear magnetic resonance study of a single crystal of CuBr4(C5H12N)2 (BPCB) consisting of weakly coupled spin-1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnetic ladders. Treating ladders in the gapless phase as Luttinger liquids, we are able to fully account for (i) the magnetic field dependence of the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate T1(-1) at 250 mK and for (ii) the phase transition to a 3D ordered phase occurring below 110 mK due to weak interladder exchange coupling. BPCB is thus an excellent model system where the possibility to control Luttinger liquid parameters in a continuous manner is demonstrated and the Luttinger liquid model tested in detail over the whole fermion band.  相似文献

The massive phase of two-layer integrable systems is studied by means of RSOS restrictions of affine Toda theories. A general classification of all possible integrable perturbations of coupled minimal models is pursued by an analysis of the (extended) Dynkin diagrams. The models considered in most detail are coupled minimal models which interpolate between magnetically coupled Ising models and Heisenberg spin ladders along the c < 1 discrete series.  相似文献

The fully frustrated spin-1/2 Heisenberg FM/AF square bilayer in a magnetic field with the ferromagnetic inter-dimer interaction and the antiferromagnetic intra-dimer interaction is explored by the use of localized many-magnon approach, which allows to connect the original purely quantum Heisenberg spin model on a square bilayer with the effective ferromagnetic Ising model on a simple square lattice. Magnetization and specific heat are investigated exactly at a field-driven phase transition from the singlet-dimer phase towards the fully saturated ferromagnetic phase, which changes from a discontinuous phase transition to a continuous one at a certain critical temperature. The mapping correspondence between the spin-1/2 Heisenberg FM/AF square bilayer and the ferromagnetic Ising square lattice suggests for this special critical point of the spin-1/2 Heisenberg FM/AF square bilayer critical exponents from the standard two-dimensional Ising universality class.  相似文献

We introduce a Monte Carlo method, as a modification of existing cluster algorithms, which allows simulations directly on systems of infinite size, and for quantum models also at beta = infinity. All two-point functions can be obtained, including dynamical information. When the number of iterations is increased, correlation functions at larger distances become available. Limits q-->0 and omega-->0 can be approached directly. As examples we calculate spectra for the d = 2 Ising model and for Heisenberg quantum spin ladders with two and four legs.  相似文献

Using infinite projected entangled-pair states, exact diagonalization, and flavor-wave theory, we show that the SU(4) Heisenberg model undergoes a spontaneous dimerization on the square lattice, in contrast with its SU(2) and SU(3) counterparts, which develop Néel and three-sublattice stripelike long-range order. Since the ground state of a dimer is not a singlet for SU(4) but a 6-dimensional irreducible representation, this leaves the door open for further symmetry breaking. We provide evidence that, unlike in SU(4) ladders, where dimers pair up to form singlet plaquettes, here the SU(4) symmetry is additionally broken, leading to a gapless spectrum in spite of the broken translational symmetry.  相似文献

The ground-state and finite-temperature behavior of the mixed spin-1 and spin-1/2 Ising-Heisenberg model on the diamond-like decorated Bethe lattice is investigated within the framework of two rigorous methods: the decoration-iteration transformation and exact recursion relations. The model under consideration describes a hybrid classical-quantum system consisting of the Ising and Heisenberg spins, which interact among themselves either through the Ising or XXZ Heisenberg nearest-neighbor interaction. Both sublattice magnetizations of the Ising and Heisenberg spins are exactly calculated with the aim to examine phase diagrams, thermal variations of the total and sublattice magnetizations. The finite-temperature phase diagrams form continuous (second-order) phase transition lines only, which exhibit a small reentrant region if the diamond-like decorated Bethe lattice with a sufficiently high coordination number is considered.  相似文献

We consider a spin-1/2 tube (a three-leg ladder with periodic boundary conditions) with a Hamiltonian given by two projection operators-one on the triangles and the other on the square plaquettes on the side of the tube-that can be written in terms of Heisenberg and four-spin ring exchange interactions. We identify 3 phases: (i)?for strongly antiferromagnetic exchange on the triangles, an exact ground state with a gapped spectrum can be given as an alternation of spin and chirality singlet bonds between nearest triangles; (ii)?for ferromagnetic exchange on the triangles, we recover the phase of the spin-3/2 Heisenberg chain; (iii)?between these two phases, a gapless incommensurate phase exists. We construct an exact ground state with two deconfined domain walls and a gapless excitation spectrum at the quantum phase transition point between the incommensurate and dimerized phases.  相似文献

We consider isotropic spin-1/2 two-leg ladders with dominant spatially-modulated rung exchanges. We study the effect of a uniform magnetic field on the ground state phase diagram of the model using perturbation theory and the numerical Lanczos method. The ground state phase diagram consists of two gapless Luttinger liquid (LL) and three gapped phases. Numerically, we calculate the concurrence between two spins and the entanglement entropy between legs. Numerical experiment shows that the gapless LL phases are fundamentally different. In the first LL phase, only spins on rungs are entangled, but in the second LL phase the spins on legs are long-distance entangled. Therefore, the concurrence between spins on legs can be considered as a function to distinguish the LL phases.  相似文献

We present evidence for an exotic gapless insulating phase of hard-core bosons on multileg ladders with a density commensurate with the number of legs. In particular, we study in detail a model of bosons moving with direct hopping and frustrating ring exchange on a 3-leg ladder at ν=1/3 filling. For sufficiently large ring exchange, the system is insulating along the ladder but has two gapless modes and power law transverse density correlations at incommensurate wave vectors. We propose a determinantal wave function for this phase and find excellent comparison between variational Monte Carlo and density matrix renormalization group calculations on the model Hamiltonian, thus providing strong evidence for the existence of this exotic phase. Finally, we discuss extensions of our results to other N-leg systems and to N-layer two-dimensional structures.  相似文献

We introduce a computable estimator of block entanglement entropy for many-body spin systems admitting total singlet ground states. Building on a simple geometrical interpretation of entanglement entropy of the so-called valence bond states, this estimator is defined as the average number of common singlets to two subsystems of spins. We show that our estimator possesses the characteristic scaling properties of the block entanglement entropy in critical and noncritical one-dimensional Heisenberg systems. We invoke this new measure to examine entanglement scaling in the two-dimensional Heisenberg model on a square lattice revealing an "area law" for the gapped phase and a logarithmic correction to this law in the gapless phase.  相似文献

We consider the spin-1/2 Heisenberg chain with alternating spin exchange in the presence of additional modulation of exchange on odd bonds with period 3. We study the ground state magnetic phase diagram of this hexamer spin chain in the limit of very strong antiferromagnetic (AF) exchange on odd bonds using the numerical Lanczos method and bosonization approach. In the limit of strong magnetic field commensurate with the dominating AF exchange, the model is mapped onto an effective XXZ Heisenberg chain in the presence of uniform and spatially modulated fields, which is studied using the standard continuum-limit bosonization approach. In the absence of additional hexamer modulation, the model undergoes a quantum phase transition from a gapped phase into the only one gapless Lüttinger liquid (LL) phase by increasing the magnetic field. In the presence of hexamer modulation, two new gapped phases are identified in the ground state at magnetization equal to [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] of the saturation value. These phases reveal themselves also in the magnetization curve as plateaus at corresponding values of magnetization. As a result, the magnetic phase diagram of the hexamer chain shows seven different quantum phases, four gapped and three gapless, and the system is characterized by six critical fields which mark quantum phase transitions between the ordered gapped and the LL gapless phases.  相似文献

We study the linear anisotropic spin-1/2-Heisenberg model with periodic as well as antiperiodic boundary conditions. Using two assumptions about the eigenvalues of the related fermion models it is shown, how the exactly known energy spectrum of the periodic Heisenberg model is altered in the antiperiodic case. This investigation provides basis for a subsequent test of a Hartree-Fock approximation. It gives fairly good results for the groundstate energy and the energy dispersion of low-lying excitations. Hartree-Fock solutions with gapless excitations yield a qualitatively correct picture of the phase diagram of the Heisenberg model.  相似文献

We analyze the phase diagram of a system of spin-1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnetic chains interacting through a zig-zag coupling, also called zig-zag ladders. Using bosonization techniques we study how a spin-gap or more generally plateaux in magnetization curves arise in different situations. While for coupled XXZchains, one has to deal with a recently discovered chiral perturbation, the coupling term which is present for normal ladders is restored by an external magnetic field, dimerization or the presence of charge carriers. We then proceed with a numerical investigation of the phase diagram of two coupled Heisenberg chains in the presence of a magnetic field. Unusual behaviour is found for ferromagnetic coupled antiferromagnetic chains. Finally, for three (and more) legs one can choose different inequivalent types of coupling between the chains. We find that the three-leg ladder can exhibit a spin-gap and/or non-trivial plateaux in the magnetization curve whose appearance strongly depends on the choice of coupling. We study theoretically the RKKY interaction between magnetic impurities on the surface of three-dimensional topological insulators, mediated by the helical Dirac electrons. Exact analytical expression shows that the RKKY interaction consists of the Heisenberg-like, Ising-like, and Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM)-like terms. It provides us a new way to control surface magnetism electrically. The gap opened by doped magnetic ions can lead to a short-range Bloembergen-Rowland interaction. The competition among the Heisenberg, Ising, and DM terms leads to rich spin configurations and an anomalous Hall effect on different lattices.  相似文献

We develop random walk representations for the spin-S Heisenberg ferromagnet with nearest neighbor interactions. We show that the spin-S Heisenberg model is a diffusion with local times controlled by the spin-S Ising model. As a consequence, expectations for the Heisenberg model conditioned on zero diffusion are shown to be Ising expectations.  相似文献

We study the quantum dimer model on the triangular lattice, which is expected to describe the singlet dynamics of frustrated Heisenberg models in phases where valence bond configurations dominate their physics. We find, in contrast to the square lattice, that there is a truly short ranged resonating valence bond phase with no gapless excitations and with deconfined, gapped, spinons for a finite range of parameters. We also establish the presence of crystalline dimer phases.  相似文献

We show for classical Heisenberg spins, with a general nearest neighbour interaction, that in the Migdal approximation the only low-temperature phase transitions are Ising ones (ferror antiferromagnetic). For d=2 neither the pure Heisenberg model nor the Lebwohl-Lasher model show a phase transition at a finite temperature. For d>2 transitions do exist at intermediate temperature and the complete flow diagram together with a two-parameter phase diagram is obtained numerically for d=3. Apart from critical temperatures and thermal exponents, also the magnetic exponents (for both Heisenberg and XY spins) are calculated. The latter are in very good agreement with exact results.  相似文献

We developed a systematic non-perturbative method base on Dyson–Schwinger theory and the Φ-derivable theory for Ising model at broken phase. Based on these methods, we obtain critical temperature and spin spin correlation beyond mean field theory. The spectrum of Green function obtained from our methods become gapless at critical point, so the susceptibility become divergent at Tc. The critical temperature of Ising model obtained from this method is fairly good in comparison with other non-cluster methods. It is straightforward to extend this method to more complicate spin models for example with continue symmetry.  相似文献
