We present results of a search for R-parity-violating decay of the neutralino chi;01, taken as the lightest supersymmetric particle, to a muon and two jets. The decay proceeds through a lepton-number violating coupling lambda(')(2jk) (j=1,2; k=1,2,3), with R-parity conservation in all other production and decay processes. In the absence of candidate events from 77.5+/-3.9 pb(-1) of data collected by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron in pp collisions at sqrt[s]=1.8 TeV, and with an expected background of 0.18+/-0.03+/-0.02 events, we set limits on squark and gluino masses within the framework of the minimal low-energy supergravity-supersymmetry model.  相似文献

The results of the first search for long-lived gluinos produced in 7 TeV pp collisions at the CERN Large Hadron Collider are presented. The search looks for evidence of long-lived particles that stop in the CMS detector and decay in the quiescent periods between beam crossings. In a dataset with a peak instantaneous luminosity of 1×10(32) cm-2 s-1, an integrated luminosity of 10 pb-1, and a search interval corresponding to 62 hours of LHC operation, no significant excess above background was observed. Limits at the 95% confidence level on gluino pair production over 13 orders of magnitude of gluino lifetime are set. For a mass difference mg - mχ1(0) >100 GeV/c2, and assuming BR(g→gχ1(0))=100%, mg < 370 GeV/c2 are excluded for lifetimes from 10 μs to 1000 s.  相似文献

We introduce a new observable, "gluino m_{T2}," which is an application of the Cambridge m_{T2} variable to the process where gluinos are pair produced in a proton-proton collision and each gluino subsequently decays into two quarks and one lightest supersymmetric particle, i.e., g[over ]g[over ]-->qqchi[over ]_{1};{0}qqchi[over ]_{1};{0}. We show that the gluino m_{T2} can be utilized to measure the gluino mass and the lightest neutralino mass separately and also the 1st and 2nd generation squark masses if squarks are lighter than the gluino, thereby providing a good first look at the pattern of sparticle masses experimentally.  相似文献

Processes of the form pp → anything → XiXj → + + notE are studied via a technique that may be viewed as an adaptation of time-honoured Dalitz plot analyses. Xi and Xj are new heavy states (with i, j =1, . . .,n), which may be identical or distinct; and and are necessarily distinct standard model (SM) fermion pairs whose invariant masses can be measured. A Dalitz-like plot of said invariant masses, versus , exhibits a topology connected to the masses and specific decay chains of Xi and Xj. Aside from relatively minor details, observed patterns consist of a collection of box and wedge shapes. This collection is model-dependent: comparison of the observed pattern to the possibilities for a specific model yields information on which new particle pair combinations are actually being produced, information beyond that extractable from conventional one-dimensional invariant mass distributions. The technique is illustrated via application to the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) process pp → → e+e- + μ+μ- notE. Here the heavy states are neutralinos (i = 2,3,4) - note that is excluded - which are produced in gluino/squark ( / ) cascade decay chains. Even with fairly modest expectations for the LHC performance during the first few years, this method still provides substantial insight into the neutralino mass spectrum and couplings if gluino/squark masses are relatively low (≃ 400 GeV). A model for thermally activated dynamics in disordered systems shows that the linear and nonlinear susceptibility follows a generic exponential form with a "critical rounding," chi(1) proportional to chi(3) proportional to [T ln(t/tau(0)')/K](gamma/b phi) exp - [Tt(g)(phi b)ln(t/tau(0)'/K)](nu/b) (T=temperature, t=time, K=barrier constant, t(g) = 1 - T(SG)/T, and T(SG) = transition temperature; gamma>0 for chi(3) and <0 for chi(1)). This model, also valid in the presence of resonant tunneling states at energies K(0) < K [provided that K is replaced by K(0)+2T ln (1/Gamma(0)), where Gamma(0)(2) proportional, variant tunnel splitting of a spin S=1], is potentially applicable to a wide variety of systems opening the way for the study of thermally activated quantum phase transitions. The famous spin-glass system LiHo(x)Y(1-x) seems to follow this model.  相似文献

Finite squareL×L Ising lattices with ferromagnetic nearest neighbor interaction are simulated using the Swendsen-Wang cluster algorithm. Both thermal properties (internal energyU, specific heatC, magnetization |M|, susceptibility) and percolation cluster properties relating to the physical clusters, namely the Fortuin-Kasteleyn clusters (percolation probability P , percolation susceptibility p, cluster size distributionn l) are evaluated, paying particular attention to finite-size effects. It is shown that thermal properties can be expressed entirely in terms of cluster properties, P being identical to |M| in the thermodynamic limit, while finite-size corrections differ. In contrast, p differs from even in the thermodynamic limit, since a fluctuation in the size of the percolating net contributes to, but not to p. NearT c the cluster size distribution has the scaling properties as hypothesized by earlier phenomenological theories. We also present a generalization of the Swendsen-Wang algorithm allowing one to cross over continuously to the Glauber dynamics.  相似文献

Nonrenormalizable interactions are studied on the example of the (1/N) 6 4 model with interaction via the collective = 2 mode. In 4<d<6 dimensions, the model is nonrenormalizable by power counting but it does not require more subtractions than in the four-dimensional case. In six dimensions, nonrenormalizability is essential: There are two induced couplings 3 and . The 3 coupling strength can be determined from the requirement that the effective potential has a minimum at 2 = = 0. The nonlocal formafactor produced by an infinite number of insertions cannot be determined uniquely, however the ambiguity concentrates in the leading order only. We construct this formfactor using the method of Efimov and Mogilevsky. The resulting theory satisfies unitarity, microcausality and correct spectral properties.  相似文献

In a sample of 9.66x10(6)B&Bmacr; pairs collected with the CLEO detector we make the first observation of B decays to an eta(c) and a kaon. We measure branching fractions B(B+-->eta(c)K+) = (0.69(+0.26)(-0.21)+/-0.08+/-0.20)x10(-3) and B(B degrees -->eta(c)K degrees ) = (1.09(+0.55)(-0.42)+/-0.12+/-0.31)x10(-3), where the first error is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third is from the eta(c) branching fraction uncertainty. From these we extract the eta(c) decay constant in the factorization approximation, f(eta(c)) = 335+/-75 MeV. We also search for B decays to a chi(c0) and a kaon. No evidence for a signal is found and we set 90% C.L. upper limits: B(B+-->chi(c0)K+)<4.8x10(-4) and B(B degrees -->chi(c0)K degrees )<5.0x10(-4).  相似文献

A geometro-differential quantum theory of extended particles is presented. The geometrical selling is that of Hilbert fiber bundles whose base manifolds are pseudo-Riemannian space-times of points which are interpreted as partial aspects of physical reality (the extended particle). The fibers are carrier spaces of induced (internal configuration and momentum) representations of the structural group (the de Sitter group here). Sections of these bundles are seen as physical representations of the particle, and their values in the fibers are interpreted as states of internally localized modes composing the particle. This geometrical structure is analogous to that of a geometro-stochastic quantization developed in recent years. The physical interpretation is a combination of those of an old functional quantum theory and of an induced representation scheme based on an interpretation of intertwining, between configuration and momentum representations, as localization, materialization, and propagation of particles. Our model is applied in two cases: (1) Induced representation is applied in both space-time and internal space: both have de Sitter symmetry whose connection is ignored. Intertwining is considered in both spaces in a composed fashion. (2) For generic spacetimes and when the connection is taken into account, intertwining is applied only in the internal space. Parallel transport is combined with intertwining for a redefinition of localization, materialization, and propagation (the latter in a path integral context inspired from geometro-stochastic quantization).  相似文献

We report on a search for charmless hadronic B decays to the three-body final states K(0)(S)h(+)pi(-), K(+)h(-)pi(0), K(0)(S)h(+)pi(0) (h(+/-) denotes a charged pion or kaon), and their charge conjugates, using 13.5 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity produced near sqrt[s]=10.6 GeV, and collected with the CLEO detector. We observe the decay B-->K0pi(+)pi(-) with a branching fraction (50(+10)(-9)(stat.)+/-7(syst.))x10(-6) and the decay B-->K(*+)(892)pi(-) with a branching fraction (16(+6)(-5)(stat.)+/-2(syst.))x10(-6).  相似文献

We report a search for the anomalous production of events with multiple charged leptons in pp[over] collisions at sqrt[s]=1.96 TeV using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 346 pb(-1) collected by the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. The search is divided into three-lepton and four-or-more-lepton data samples. We observe six events in the three-lepton sample and zero events in the > or =4-lepton sample. Both numbers of events are consistent with standard model background expectations. Within the framework of an R-parity-violating supergravity model, the results are interpreted as mass limits on the lightest neutralino (chi[over](1)(0)) and chargino (chi[over](1+/-) particles. For one particular choice of model parameters, the limits are M(chi[over](1)(0)>110 GeV/c2 and M(chi[over](1+/-)>203 GeV/c2 at 95% confidence level; the variation of these mass limits with model parameters is presented.  相似文献

A atmosphere structure constant Cn 2 model, which varies with height, is presented based on Karasawa's amplitude scintillation model, existing ITU-R Cn 2 model for optical and Xi'an area meteorologic measured relative humidity data in cloud cover, at 3050GHz. In this Cn 2 model it is considered that relative humidity u varies with height. The log-amplitude scintillation deviation calculated in terms of the Cn 2 model compare with values predicted by means of STNV2 model applied to Italsat channels. It is emerged that the calculation results based on the Cn 2 model are distinctly smaller then the values predicted by STNV2 model. Their differences increase with decrease of u, because the water vapor content in the atmosphere at continental climate Xi'an area is smaller then the one at Italy, which is oceanic cilmate. When the water vapor in atmosphere approach saturation, the calculation results agree almost with prediction results. Therefore, it is shown that the Cn 2 model is usable and is applied at the continental climate area as Xi'an area.  相似文献

Using the model with one particle and one hole coupled with a triaxial rotor, the πg(-1)(9/2)(⊕)vh11/2 doublet bands in the A ~ 100 mass region are studied, and compared with the πh11/2(⊕)vh(-1)(11/2) doublet bands. It is found that the calculated results for the configuration of πg(-1)(9/2)(⊕)vh11/2 are very similar the results for a pure h11/2 proton particle and a neutron quasiparticle with λn =ε5. After including the pair correlation, the model describes the candidate chiral doublet bands in 106Rh successfully, which supports the interpretation of chirality geometry.  相似文献

We study the so-called frog model: Initially there are some sleeping particles and one active particle. A sleeping particle is activated when an active particle hits it, after that the activated particle starts to walk independently of everything and can activate other sleeping particles as well. The initial configuration of sleeping particles is random with density p(x). We identify the critical rate of decay of p(x) separating transience from recurrence, and study some other properties of the model.  相似文献

We present a search for supersymmetry in the R-parity violating resonant production and decay of smuons and muon sneutrinos in the channels mu-->chi(1)(0)mu, mu-->chi(2,3,4)(0)mu, and nu(mu)-->chi(1,2)(+/-)mu. We analyzed 0.38 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity collected between April 2002 and August 2004 with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The observed number of events is in agreement with the standard model expectation, and we calculate 95% C.L. limits on the slepton production cross section times branching fraction to gaugino plus muon, as a function of slepton and gaugino masses. In the framework of minimal supergravity, we set limits on the coupling parameter lambda(211)('), extending significantly previous results obtained in Run I of the Tevatron and at the CERN LEP collider.  相似文献

Creep and relaxation of domain walls under ac electric fields are observed in an ideal model system, periodically poled KTiOPO4, to occur in different regimes, which are separated by dynamic phase transitions at frequencies f(m)(T)=f(m0)exp((-DeltaE/k(B)T), with f(m0)=3 x 10(9) Hz and DeltaE=0.6 eV. Power law dispersion of the creep susceptibility, chi proportional to 1+(iomegatau)(-beta), with beta approximately equal to 0.4, and large nonlinearity encountered at f < f(m), is contrasted with Cole-Cole-type relaxational dispersion, chi proportional to (1+[iomegatau](1-alpha))(-1), with alpha approximately 0.3, at f > f(m).  相似文献

We have measured the spin structure functions g(1) and g(2) of 3He in a double-spin experiment by inclusively scattering polarized electrons at energies ranging from 0.862 to 5.058 GeV off a polarized 3He target at a 15.5 degrees scattering angle. Excitation energies covered the resonance and the onset of the deep inelastic regions. We have determined for the first time the Q2 evolution of Gamma(1)(Q2)= integral (1)(0)g(1)(x,Q2)dx, Gamma(2)(Q2)= integral (1)(0)g(2)(x,Q2)dx, and d(2)(Q2)= integral (1)(0)x(2)[2g(1)(x,Q2)+3g(2)(x,Q2)]dx for the neutron in the range 0.1< or =Q2< or =0.9 GeV2 with good precision. Gamma(1)(Q2) displays a smooth variation from high to low Q2. The Burkhardt-Cottingham sum rule holds within uncertainties and d(2) is nonzero over the measured range.  相似文献

Summary A critical issue in drug discovery utilizing combinatorial chemistry as part of the discovery process is the choice of scaffolds to be used for a proper presentation, in a three-dimensional space, of the critical elements of structure necessary for molecular recognition (binding) and information transfer (agonist/ antagonist). In the case of polypeptide ligands, considerations related to the properties of various backbone structures (-helix, -sheets, etc.; , space) and those related to three-dimensional presentation of side-chain moieties (topography; (chi) space) must be addressed, although they often present quite different elements in the molecular recognition puzzle. We have addressed aspects of this problem by examining the three-dimensional structures of chemically different scaffolds at various distances from the scaffold to evaluate their putative diversity. We find that chemically diverse scaffolds can readily become topographically similar. We suggest a topographical approach involving design in chi space to deal with these problems.  相似文献

In some supersymmetric models, the gluino () is predicted to be light and stable. In that case, it would hadronize to form R-hadrons. In these models, the missing energy signature of the lightest supersymmetric particle is no longer valid, even if R-parity is conserved. Therefore, such a gluino is not constrained by hadron collider results, which looked for the decay . Data collected by the DELPHI detector in 1994 at 91.2 GeV have been analysed to search for events. No deviation from Standard Model predictions is observed and a gluino mass between 2 and 18 GeV/c2 is excluded at the 95% confidence level in these models. Then, R-hadrons produced in the squark decays were searched for in the data collected by DELPHI at the centre-of-mass energies of 189 to 208 GeV, corresponding to an overall integrated luminosity of 609 Pb-1. The observed number of events is in agreement with the Standard Model predictions. Limits at 95% confidence level are derived on the squark masses from the excluded regions in the plane () GeV/c2, and GeV/c2 for purely left squarks. GeV/c2, and GeV/c2 independent of the mixing angle. Received: 6 November 2002 / Published online: 15 January 2003  相似文献
