Electron-electron interactions can induce Fermi surface deformations which break the point-group symmetry of the lattice structure of the system. In the vicinity of such a "Pomeranchuk instability" the Fermi surface is easily deformed by anisotropic perturbations, and exhibits enhanced collective fluctuations. We show that critical Fermi surface fluctuations near a d-wave Pomeranchuk instability in two dimensions lead to large anisotropic decay rates for single-particle excitations, which destroy Fermi-liquid behavior over the whole surface except at the Brillouin zone diagonal.  相似文献

In this paper the analytical expression of free energy expressed by small parameter r of a weakly interacting Fermi gas trapped in weak magnetic field is derived by using `the maximum approximation' method and the ensemble theory. Based on the derived expression, the exact instability conditions of a weakly interacting Fermi gas trapped in weak magnetic field at both high and low temperatures are given. From the instability conditions we get the following two results. (1) At the whole low-temperature extent, whether the interactions are repulsive or attractive with (ɑn + 4\varepsilonF/3) (n and \varepsilon F denote the particle-number density and the Fermi energy respectively, ɑ= 4π a\hbarF/ m, and a is s-wave scattering length) positive, there is a lower-limit magnetic field of instability; in addition, there is an upper-limit magnetic field for the system of attractive interactions with (ɑ n + \varepsilonF/3) negative. (2) At the whole high-temperature extent, the system with repulsive interactions is always stable, but for the system with attractive interactions, the greater the scattering length of attractive interactions | a | is, the stronger the magnetic field is and the larger the particle-number density is, the bigger the possibility of instability in the system will be.  相似文献

In this paper,we investigate the dynamical instability of the dark state in the conversion of Bose-Fermi mixtures into stable molecules through a stimulated Raman adiabatic passage aided by Feshbach resonance.We analytically obtain the regions where the dynamical instability appears and find that such instability in the Bose-Fermi mixture system is caused not only by bosonic interparticle interactions but also by Pauli blocking terms,which is different from the scenario of a pure bosonic system where instability is induced by nonlinear interparticle collisions.Taking a 40 K-87 Rb mixture as an example,we give the unstable regions numerically.  相似文献

We consider the possible mechanical instability of an ultracold Fermi gas due to the attractive interactions between fermions of different species. Mattheiss has recently calculated the effects of the 105°K structural phase transition on the conduction band and Fermi surface of SrTiO3. The implications of this calculation for the microscopic understanding of superconductivity in SrTiO3 are explored. In particular, coupling constants for electron-soft phonon interactions are evaluated. Certain pieces of Fermi surface are coupled very strongly to the soft mode which drives the structural instability, but these pieces are depopulated in the distorted phase. It is concluded that, contrary to a suggestion of Appel, soft phonon modes do not affect superconductivity in SrTiO3.  相似文献

根据由赝势法得到的弱相互作用费米气体的自由能,利用热力学方法研究了无外场时弱相互作用费米气体的稳定性.结果表明,无外场情况下理想费米气体与存在弱排斥相互作用的费米气体是稳定的;而具有弱吸引相互作用的费米气体在一定条件下可出现不稳定性.给出了不稳定性的粒子数密度判据和温度判据,就不同逸度情况下临界粒子数密度的具体表达结果以及温度、粒子质量和吸引相互作用对临界粒子数密度的影响进行了讨论. 关键词: 费米气体 相互作用 不稳定性判据  相似文献

The filamentation instability of a current‐carrying plasma under the diffusion condition is investigated taking into account the Bohm potential and the Fermi electron pressure. Using quantum hydrodynamic equations, the dispersion relation and growth rate of the instability is obtained. It is found that the filamentation instability, in the presence of quantum effects, depends on various characteristic parameters such as: electron Fermi velocity, plasma number density, ion thermal velocity and electron drift velocity. Moreover, the wavelength region in which the instability occurs is more restricted and the minimum size of filaments is larger, in comparison with the classical case. The quantum effects on the plasma two-stream instability are studied by the dielectric function approach. The analysis suggests that the instability condition in a degenerate dense plasma deviates from the classical theory when the electron drift velocity is comparable to the Fermi velocity. Specifically, for a high wave vector comparable to the Fermi wave vector, a degenerate quantum plasma has larger regime of instability than predicted by the classical theory. A regime is identified, where there are unstable plasma waves with frequency 1.5 times of a normal Langmuir wave.  相似文献

Based on the theoretical results derived from pseudopotential method and local approximation, this paper studies the thermodynamic stability of a weakly interacting Fermi gas trapped in a harmonic potential by using analytical method of thermodynamics. The effects of the interparticle interactions as well as external potential on the thermodynamic stability of the system are discussed. It is shown that the system is stable as for the complete average, but as for local parts, the system is unstable anywhere. This instability shows that the stability conditions of mechanics cannot be satisfied anywhere, and the stability conditions of thermostatics cannot be satisfied somewhere. In addition, the interactions and external potential have direct effects on the local stability of the system.  相似文献

We develop a theory for a generic instability of a Fermi liquid in dimension d>1 against the formation of a Luttinger-liquid-like state. The density of states at the Fermi level is the order parameter for the ensuing quantum phase transition, which is driven by the effective interaction strength. A scaling theory in conjunction with an effective field theory for clean electrons is used to obtain the critical behavior of observables. In the Fermi-liquid phase the order-parameter susceptibility, which is measurable by tunneling, is predicted to diverge for 1相似文献

A double Nambu formalism is developed which can deal in a straight-forward manner with all possible instabilities of a single band with nesting Fermi surfaces. Besides the usual density waves and superconductivity, also strong coupling phenomena are considered, such as ferromagnetism, Martensitic instability, and the somewhat bizarre state of localized Cooper pairs. The system is solved in the mean field approximation which is valid when the Fermi surfaces are not too flat.  相似文献

In angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy pseudogap phenomenon in high-temperature superconductors is observed as Fermi arcs, or truncated Fermi surface. Here I argue that the hole induced chiral spin texture scenario naturally leads to Fermi arcs by including hole hopping processes. Disappearance of part of the Fermi surface is associated with the effect of the coherence factor. Suppressed spectral weight of the holes turns out to be an electron-like component which has weight near (π,0) only and has some charge instability.  相似文献

Following the idea of three‐wave resonant interactions of lower hybrid waves, it is shown that quantum‐modified lower hybrid (QLH) wave in electron–positron–ion plasma with spatial dispersion can decay into another QLH wave (where electron and positrons are activated, whereas ions remain in the background) and another ultra‐low frequency quantum‐modified ultra‐low frequency Lower Hybrid (QULH) (where ions are mobile). Quantum effects like Bohm potential and Fermi pressure on the lower hybrid wave significantly reshaped the dispersion properties of these waves. Later, a set of non‐linear Zakharov equations were derived to consider the formation of QLH wave solitons, with the non‐linear contribution from the QLH waves. Furthermore, modulational instability of the lower hybrid wave solitons is investigated, and consequently, its growth rates are examined for different limiting cases. As the growth rate associated with the three‐wave resonant interaction is generally smaller than the growth associated with the modulational instability, only the latter have been investigated. Soliton solutions from the set of coupled Zakharov and NLS equations in the quasi‐stationary regime have been studied. Ordinary solitons are an attribute of non‐linearity, whereas a cusp soliton solution featured by nonlocal nonlinearity has also been studied. Such an approach to lower hybrid waves and cusp solitons study in Fermi gas comprising electron positron and ions is new and important. The general results obtained in this quantum plasma theory will have widespread applicability, particularly for processes in high‐energy plasma–laser interactions set for laboratory astrophysics and solid‐state plasmas.  相似文献

Collisions of two degenerate quark Fermi liquids are studied. It is shown that there arise instabilities, which manifest themselves in propagation of growing oscillations corresponding to the modes existing in a Fermi liquid at rest. Quark jets are likely to appear in the directions of the growing oscillations propagation.

The instabilities studied in this work are similar to the beam instability in ordinary electron plasma.  相似文献

We have performed angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy of the iron-chalcogenide superconductor Fe1.03Te0.7Se0.3 to investigate the electronic structure relevant to superconductivity. We observed a holelike Fermi surface (FS) and an electronlike FS at the Brillouin zone center and corner, respectively, which are nearly nested by the Q~(π,π) wave vector. We do not find evidence for the nesting instability with Q~(π+δ,0) reminiscent of the antiferromagnetic order in the parent compound Fe1+yTe. We have observed an isotropic superconducting (SC) gap along the holelike FS with the gap size Δ of ~4 meV (2Δ/kBTc ~ 7), demonstrating the strong-coupling superconductivity. The observed similarity of low-energy electronic excitations between iron-chalcogenides and iron-arsenides strongly suggests that common interactions which involve Q~(π,π) scattering are responsible for the SC pairing.  相似文献

Using the next-nearest-neighbor (zigzag) Hubbard chain as a one-dimensional model, we investigate the influence of interactions on the position of the Fermi wave vectors with the density-matrix renormalization-group technique. For suitable choices of the hopping parameters we observe that electron-electron correlations induce very different renormalizations for the two different Fermi wave vectors, which ultimately lead to a complete destruction of one section of the Fermi sea in a quantum critical point.  相似文献

We report angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy results of the Fermi surface of Ca1.5Sr0.5RuO4, which is at the boundary of magnetic/orbital instability in the phase diagram of the Ca-substituted Sr ruthenates. Three t(2g) energy bands and the corresponding Fermi surface sheets are observed, which are also present in the Ca-free Sr2RuO4. We find that while the Fermi surface topology of the alpha,beta (d(yz,zx)) sheets remains almost the same in these two materials, the gamma (d(xy)) sheet exhibits a holelike Fermi surface in Ca1.5Sr0.5RuO4 in contrast to being electronlike in Sr2RuO4. Our observation of all three volume conserving Fermi surface sheets clearly demonstrates the absence of orbital-selective Mott transition, which was proposed theoretically to explain the unusual transport and magnetic properties in Ca1.5Sr0.5RuO4.  相似文献

We model collisionless collective conversion of a degenerate Fermi gas of atoms into bosonic molecules via a Feshbach resonance, treating the bosonic molecules as a classical field and seeding the pairing amplitudes with random phases. A dynamical instability of the Fermi sea against association with molecules drives the conversion. The model qualitatively reproduces several experimental observations [Regal et al., Nature (London), (2003)]. We predict that the initial temperature of the Fermi gas sets the limit for the efficiency of atom-molecule conversion.  相似文献

The paper presents the level density for a Fermi gas with pairing interactions. First an approximate partition function is derived in terms of a universal function. Then a modified saddle-point method is used for the inverse Laplace transformation to obtain an algebraic expression which does not diverge for the ground state. This method was applied to the normal Fermi gas as well as to the paired Fermi gas. The results are compared to the standard and to the backshifted Fermi-gas level density.  相似文献
