We point out some interesting consequences of antisymmetric fermionic mass terms in grand unified theories, which follow from the symmetry properties of the Yukawa-type fermion-Higgs interactions. In SU(5), we show that an antisymmetric mass matrix M(u) in the up-quark sector arises when the Higgs 5 is replaced by 45. IOn SO(10), all the fermion sectors are characterized by such mass matrices if the neutrinos are required not to pick up the ordinary fermionic mass scale. In the recently proposed vertical-horizontal symmetric SU(5) × SU(5) scheme, a fully antisymmetric M(u) is naturally accompanied by exactly five zeroth-order massless neutrinos.  相似文献

A realistic finite grand unified model has to accomodate at least three generations of ordinary fermions. When this criterion is imposed, we found that only a few models of the SU(N), SO(2N), SO(2N+1) and exceptional groups can survive as candidates for possible realistic finite supersymmetric grand unified models. All possible solutions are obtained, but the SU(5) model is excluded.  相似文献

Supersymmetric models are discussed with a view to solving the hierarchy problem in grand unified theories. Several types of light scalars are obtained and classified. We study a series of N = 1 supersymmetric integrable particle theories in d = 1 + 1 dimensions. These theories are represented as integrable perturbations of specific N = 1 superconformal field theories. Starting from the conjectured S-matrices for these theories, we develop the Thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz (TBA), where we use that the 2-particle S-matrices satisfy a free fermion condition. Our analysis proves a conjecture by E. Melzer, who proposed that these N = 1 supersymmetric. TBA systems are “folded” versions of N = 2 supersymmetric TBA systems that were first studied by P. Fendley and K. Intriligator.  相似文献

Agrand superspace is proposed as the phase space for gauge field theories with a fixed structure groupG over a fixed space-time manifoldM. This superspace incorporatesall principal fiber bundles with these data. This phase space is the space of isomorphism classes ofall connections onall G-principal fiber bundles overM (fixedG andM). The justification for choosing this grand superspace for the phase space is that the space-time and the structure group are determinants of the physical theory, but the principal fiber bundle with the givenG andM is not. Grand superspace is studied in terms of a natural universal principal fiber bundle overM, canonically associated withM alone, and with a natural universal connection on this bundle. This bundle and its connection are universal in the sense that all connections on allG-principal fiber bundles (anyG) overM can be recovered from this universal bundle and its universal connection by a canonical construction. WhenG is Abelian, grand superspace is shown to be an Abelian group. Various subspaces of grand superspace consisting of the isomorphism classes of flat connections and of Yang-Mills connections are also discussed.  相似文献
