In this paper, we derive some new results on the parametric stability of nonlinear systems. Explicitly, we derive a necessary and sufficient condition for a nonlinear system to be locally parametrically exponentially stable at an equilibrium point. We also derive a necessary condition for the nonlinear system to be locally parametrically asymptotically stable at an equilibrium point. Next, we derive some new results on the parametric stability of discrete-time nonlinear systems. As in the continuous case, we derive a necessary and sufficient condition for a discrete-time nonlinear system to be locally parametrically exponentially stable at an equilibrium point. We also derive a necessary condition for the discrete-time nonlinear system to be locally parametrically asymptotically stable at an equilibrium point. We illustrate our results with some classical examples from the bifurcation theory.  相似文献

We investigate the problem of the determination of conditions for the existence of solutions of weakly nonlinear Noetherian boundary-value problems for systems of ordinary differential equations and the construction of these solutions. We consider the special critical case where the equation for finding the generating solution of a weakly nonlinear Noetherian boundary-value problem turns into an identity. We improve the classification of critical cases and construct an iterative algorithm for finding solutions of weakly nonlinear Noetherian boundary-value problems in the special critical case.  相似文献

We consider the propagation of wave packets for a nonlinear Schrödinger equation, with a matrix-valued potential, in the semi-classical limit. For a matrix-valued potential, Strichartz estimates are available under long range assumptions. Under these assumptions, for an initial coherent state polarized along an eigenvector, we prove that the wave function remains in the same eigenspace, at leading order, in a scaling such that nonlinear effects cannot be neglected. We also prove a nonlinear superposition principle for these nonlinear wave packets.  相似文献

We consider the solution of nonlinear programs with nonlinear semidefiniteness constraints. The need for an efficient exploitation of the cone of positive semidefinite matrices makes the solution of such nonlinear semidefinite programs more complicated than the solution of standard nonlinear programs. This paper studies a sequential semidefinite programming (SSP) method, which is a generalization of the well-known sequential quadratic programming method for standard nonlinear programs. We present a sensitivity result for nonlinear semidefinite programs, and then based on this result, we give a self-contained proof of local quadratic convergence of the SSP method. We also describe a class of nonlinear semidefinite programs that arise in passive reduced-order modeling, and we report results of some numerical experiments with the SSP method applied to problems in that class.  相似文献

This work is a geometric study of reduced order observer design for discrete-time nonlinear systems. Our reduced order observer design is applicable for Lyapunov stable discrete-time nonlinear systems with a linear output equation and is a generalization of Luenberger’s reduced order observer design for linear systems. We establish the error convergence for the reduced order estimator for discrete-time nonlinear systems using the center manifold theory for maps. We illustrate our reduced order observer construction for discrete-time nonlinear systems with an example.  相似文献

We discuss an initial boundary value problem for the stochastic wave equation with nonlinear damping. We establish the existence and uniqueness of a solution. Our method for the existence of pathwise solutions consists of regularization of the equation and data, the Galerkin approximation and an elementary measure-theoretic argument. We also prove the existence of an invariant measure when the equation has pure nonlinear damping.  相似文献

We introduce, along the lines of [4], an integer valued degree for second order fully nonlinear elliptic operators which is invariant under homotopy within elliptic operators. We also give some applications to the bifurcation problem for nonlinear elliptic equations. We propose and examine the primal and dual finite element method for solving an axially symmetric elliptic problem with mixed boundary conditions. We derive an a posteriori error estimate and generalize the method used for a nonlinear elliptic problem. In this work we present a new Tau method for the solution of nonlinear systems of differential equations which are linear in the derivative of highest order and polynomial in the remaining. We avoid the linearization of the problem by associating to it a nonlinear algebraic system and combine a forward substitution with the Tau method. We develop an adaptive step by step version of this alternative nonlinear tau method and we apply it to several nonlinear dynamical systems.  相似文献

We consider a nonlinear system of integral equations describing the structure of a plane shock wave. Based on physical reasoning, we propose an iterative method for constructing an approximate solution of this system. The problem reduces to studying decoupled scalar nonlinear and linear integral equations for the gas temperature, density, and velocity. We formulate a theorem on the existence of a positive bounded solution of a nonlinear equation of the Uryson type. We also prove theorems on the existence and uniqueness of bounded positive solutions for linear integral equations in the space L 1[?r, r] for all finite r < +∞. For a more general nonlinear integral equation, we prove a theorem on the existence of a positive solution and also find a lower bound and an integral upper bound for the constructed solution.  相似文献

We propose a framework to generate alternative mixed-integer nonlinear programming formulations for disjunctive convex programs that lead to stronger relaxations. We extend the concept of “basic steps” defined for disjunctive linear programs to the nonlinear case. A basic step is an operation that takes a disjunctive set to another with fewer number of conjuncts. We show that the strength of the relaxations increases as the number of conjuncts decreases, leading to a hierarchy of relaxations. We prove that the tightest of these relaxations, allows in theory the solution of the disjunctive convex program as a nonlinear programming problem. We present a methodology to guide the generation of strong relaxations without incurring an exponential increase of the size of the reformulated mixed-integer program. Finally, we apply the theory developed to improve the computational efficiency of solution methods for nonlinear convex generalized disjunctive programs (GDP). This methodology is validated through a set of numerical examples.  相似文献

The nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation is a fundamental model for the nonlinear propagation of light pulses in optical fibers. We consider an integrable generalization of the NLS equation, which was first derived by means of bi-Hamiltonian methods in [ 1 ]. The purpose of the present paper is threefold: (a) We show how this generalized NLS equation arises as a model for nonlinear pulse propagation in monomode optical fibers when certain higher-order nonlinear effects are taken into account; (b) We show that the equation is equivalent, up to a simple change of variables, to the first negative member of the integrable hierarchy associated with the derivative NLS equation; (c) We analyze traveling-wave solutions.  相似文献

We derive the eikonal equation for an electromagnetic wave propagating in an external electromagnetic field according to the laws of nonlinear electrodynamics.
