Summary A pressurised, hot-water extraction (PHWE) method was developed for brominated flame-retardants in sediments. The effect of extraction time, temperature and pressure on PHWE recovery was investigated, together with solid-phase collection parameters (trapping material, length of trapping column, eluent composition). The concentrated extracts were analysed by GC-MS. PHWE recoveries were compared with those obtained by conventional Soxhlet-extraction. In general, recoveries were much higher with PHWE than with Soxhlet.  相似文献

A method for the determination of seven perfluorinated carboxylic acids and perfluorooctane sulphonate (PFOS) in aqueous samples using low-cost polymeric sorptive extraction as sample preparation technique, followed by liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS) determination has been developed and validated. Simplicity of the analytical procedure, low volume of solvent and sample required, low global price and a good selectivity providing cleaner extracts are the main advantages of this extraction technique. Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and polyethersulfone (PES) materials were evaluated and compared to achieve the best extraction efficiencies. Hence, different variables have been optimized, viz.: sample pH, concentration of an ion-pairing agent (tetrabutylammonium), ionic strength, sample volume, extraction time, desorption solvent volume, desorption time and the need for auxiliary desorption techniques (sonication). Overall, PES leaded to a better sensitivity than PDMS, particularly for the most polar compounds, reaching detection limits (LODs) in the 0.2–20 ng L−1 range. The precision of the method, expressed as relative standard deviation (RSD), was lower than 16%. Finally, the PES material was employed for the analysis of sea, sewage and fresh water samples. Perfluoroheptanoic acid (PFHpA), perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), perfluorononanoic acid (PFNA) and perfluorodecanoic acid (PFDA) were detected in all the analyzed influent samples reaching levels of up to 401 ng L−1. In surface water, perfluorohexanoic acid (PFHxA) exhibited the highest concentrations, up to 137 ng L−1.  相似文献

Fabric phase sorptive extraction (FPSE) is a new, yet very promising member of the sorbent-based sorptive microextraction family. It has simultaneously improved both the extraction sensitivity and the speed of the extraction by incorporating high volume of sol–gel hybrid inorganic–organic sorbents into permeable fabric substrates. The advantages of FPSE have been investigated for the determination of four non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, ibuprofen, naproxen, ketoprofen and diclofenac, in environmental water samples in combination with gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. Initially, the significance of several parameters affecting FPSE: sorbent chemistry, matrix pH and ionic strength were investigated using a mixed level factorial design (31 × 22). Then, other important parameters e.g., sample volume, extraction kinetics, desorption time and volume were also carefully studied and optimized. Due to the high sorbent loading on the FPSE substrate in the form of ultra-thin coating and the open geometry of the microextraction device, higher mass transfer of the target analytes occurs at a faster rate, leading to high enrichment factors in a relatively short period of time (equilibrium times: 45–100 min). Under optimal operational conditions, the limits of detection (S/N = 3) were found to be in the range of 0.8 ng L−1 to 5 ng L−1. The enrichment factors ranged from 162 to 418 with absolute extraction efficiencies varied from 27 to 70%, and a good trueness (82–116% relative recoveries) indicating that the proposed method can be readily deployed to routine environmental pollution monitoring. The proposed method was successfully applied to the analysis of target analytes in two influent and effluent samples from a wastewater treatment plant and two river water samples in Spain.  相似文献

Simple, precise, and low‐cost methods for the simultaneous determination of phenolic endocrine disrupting compounds such as bisphenol A, trichlorophenol, pentachlorophenol, 4‐nonylphenol, and 4‐octylphenol in water samples were developed. The Direct, in situ derivatization methods are based on polydimethylsiloxane rod extraction followed by liquid desorption and chromatographic analysis by liquid chromatography and diode array detection. Several parameters affecting the extraction and desorption of the phenolic compounds and their acetylated derivates were studied, as well as the chromatographic and detection conditions. For the direct method, determination coefficients (r2) > 0.990 and LODs in the 0.6–2 μg/L range were obtained for all compounds except bisphenol A (9.5 μg/L). With the derivatization‐based method, based on in situ acetylation, lower limits of detection (0.3–0.9 μg/L) were obtained for all the compounds with r2 > 0.988 and RSDs in the 2–9% range. The developed methods were applied to the analysis of spiked water samples obtaining recoveries of between 60.2 and 131.7% for the direct method, and of between 76.6 and 108.2% for the derivatization‐based method. The results demonstrate the feasibility of using these two methods for determining bisphenol A, trichlorophenol, pentachlorophenol, 4‐nonylphenol, and 4‐octylphenol in water.  相似文献

A headspace solid-phase microextraction gas chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (HSSPME-GC-MS-MS) methodology for determination of brominated flame retardants in sediment and soil samples is presented. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that SPME has been applied to analyze polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in environmental solid samples. Analyses were performed using 0.5-g solid samples moisturized with 2 mL water, employing a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) fiber coating, exposed to the headspace at 100 °C for 60 min. Several types of environmental solid samples were included in this study and the extraction efficiency was related to the organic matter content of the sample. Calibration was performed using real samples, and the method showed good linearity over a wide concentration range, precision, and afforded quantitative recoveries. The obtained detection limits were in the sub-ng g−1 for all the target analytes in both samples. The proposed procedure was applied to several marine and river sediments and soils, some of which were found to contain PBDEs at concentrations in the ng g−1 level; BDE-47, BDE-100, and BDE-99 were the major congeners detected. The proposed method constitutes a rapid and low-cost alternative for the analysis of the target brominated flame retardants in environmental solid samples, since the clean-up steps, fractionation, and preconcentration of extracts inherent to the classical multi-step solvent extraction procedures are avoided.   相似文献

A simple and efficient liquid-phase microextraction (LPME) technique was developed using directly suspended organic microdrop coupled with gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS), for the extraction and the determination of phthalate esters (dimethyl phthalate, diethyl phthalate, diallyl phthalate, di-n-butyl phthalate (DnBP), benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP), dicyclohexyl phthalate and di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP)) in water samples. Microextraction efficiency factors, such as nature and volume of the organic solvent, temperature, salt effect, stirring rate and the extraction time were investigated and optimized. Under the optimized extraction conditions (extraction solvent: 1-dodecanol; extraction temperature: 60 °C; microdrop volume: 7 μL; stirring rate: 750 rpm, without salt addition and extraction time: 25 min), figures of merit of the proposed method were evaluated. The values of the detection limit were in the range of 0.02–0.05 μg L−1, while the R.S.D.% value for the analysis of 5.0 μg L−1 of the analytes was below 7.7% (n = 4). A good linearity (r2 ≥ 0.9940) and a broad linear range (0.05–100 μg L−1) were obtained. The method exhibited enrichment factor values ranging from 307 to 412. Finally, the designed method was successfully applied for the preconcentration and determination of the studied phthalate esters in different real water samples and satisfactory results were attained.  相似文献

One of the current environmental issues concerns the presence and fate of pharmaceuticals in water bodies as these compounds may represent a potential environmental problem. The characterization of pharmaceutical contamination requires powerful analytical method able to quantify these pollutants at very low concentration (few ng L−1).

Capillary zone electrophoresis methods, based on either aqueous and non-aqueous solutions as running buffers and UV spectrophotometric detection, have been developed and optimized for the separation of several halogenated phenolic and bisphenolic compounds, suspected or proved to exhibit hormonal disrupting effects. Both aqueous capillary electrophoresis (CE) and non-aqueous capillary electrophoresis (NACE) methods were suitable for the analysis of compounds under study. The separation of the analytes from other 25 potentially interfering phenolic derivatives was achieved with NACE method. Large-volume sample stacking using the electroosmotic flow pump (LVSEP) was assayed as on-column preconcentration technique for sensitivity enhancement. LVSEP-CE and LVSEP-NACE improved peak heights by 5-26 and 16-330 folds, respectively. To evaluate their applicability, the capillary electrophoresis methods developed were applied to the analysis of water samples, using solid-phase extraction as sample pre-treatment process.  相似文献

A device for membrane assisted solvent extraction from an aqueous sample to an organic solvent within a micro-vial compatible with a chromatography auto-sampler was used to extract trace amounts of seven polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons from seawater. The device consisted in an assembly of a volumetric flask containing the sample and a micro-vial containing the organic solvent by means of a screw stopper in which the septum was replaced by a sized piece of a membrane. Extraction conditions (nature of the organic solvent, extraction time, presence of ethanol in the donor phase, ionic content of the donor phase, characteristics of the membrane and volumes of donor and acceptor phases) were studied in order to find the conditions for maximum extraction. Analytical performance characteristics have also been established. The extraction efficiency was between 12.5 and 23%, which implies an enrichment factor value above 40. The repeatability and reproducibility were in the range of 8.6–10.0% and 13–19%, respectively. Detection limits were in the range of 24–39 ng L−1. Nine seawater samples have been studied. Most of the concentrations were under the limits of detection. Naphthalene and phenanthrene contents have been determined in a sample using the method of standard additions, and concentrations 100 and 91 ng L−1, respectively.  相似文献

Headspace solid phase microextraction (HS-SPME) was optimized for the analysis of pesticides with gas chromatography electron capture detection (GC-ECD) and high-resolution mass spectrometry. Factors influencing the extraction efficiency such as fiber type, extraction mode and temperature, effect of ionic strength, stirring and extraction time were evaluated. The lowest pesticide concentrations that could be detected in spiked aliquots after HS-SPME–GC-ECD ranged from 0.0005 to 0.0032 μg L− 1. Consequently hexachlorobenzene, trans-chlordane, 4,4′-DDD and 4,4′-DDE were detected in water samples after HS-SPME at concentrations ranging from 2.4 to 61.4 μg L− 1 that are much higher than the 0.1 μg L− 1 maximum limit of individual organochlorine pesticides in drinking water set by the European Community Directive. The same samples were cleaned with ISOLUTE C18 SPE sorbent with an optimal acetone/n-hexane (1:1 v/v) mixture for the elution of analytes. No pesticides were detected after SPE clean-up and pre-concentration. Precision for both methods was satisfactory with relative standard deviations less than 20%. This work demonstrated the superiority of HS-SPME as a sample clean-up and pre-concentration technique for pesticides in water samples as well as the need to identify and control point sources of pesticides.  相似文献

A solid-phase extraction (SPE) using multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) as adsorbent coupled with gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) method was developed for the determination of 16 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in environmental water samples. Several condition parameters, such as extraction adsorbents, elution solvents and volumes, and sample loading flow rate and volume were optimized to obtain high SPE recoveries and extraction efficiency. 150 mg MWCNTs as sorbent presented high extraction efficiency of 16 PAHs due to the large specific surface area and high adsorption capacity of MWCNTs compared with the commercial C18 column (250 mg/2 mL). The calibration curves of 16 PAHs extracted were linear in the range of 20–5000 ng L−1, with the correlation coefficients (r2) between 0.9848 and 0.9991. The method attained good precisions (relative standard deviation, RSD) from 1.2% to 12.1% for standard PAHs aqueous solutions; method recoveries ranged in 76.0–125.5%, 74.5–127.0%, and 70.0–122.0% for real spiked samples from river water, tap water and seawater, respectively. Limits of detection (LODs, S/N = 3) of the method were determined from 2.0 to 8.5 ng L−1. The optimized method was successfully applied to the determination of 16 PAHs in real environmental water samples.  相似文献

The capabilities of four commercially available and low cost polymeric materials for the extraction of polar and non-polar contaminants (log Kow = −0.07–6.88, from caffeine to octocrylene, respectively) from water samples was compared. Tested sorbents were polyethersulphone, polypropylene and Kevlar, compared to polydimethylsiloxane as reference material. Parameters that affect the extraction process such as pH and ionic strength of the sample, extraction time and desorption conditions were thoroughly investigated. A set of experimental partition coefficients (Kpw), at two different experimental conditions, was estimated for the best suited materials and compared with the theoretical octanol–water (Kow) partition coefficients of the analytes. Polyethersulphone displayed the largest extraction yields for both polar and non-polar analytes, with higher Kpw and lower matrix effects than polydimethylsiloxane and polypropylene. Thus, a sorptive microextraction method, followed by large volume injection (LVI) gas chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (GC–MS/MS), was proposed using the former sorbent (2 mg) for the simultaneous determination of model compounds in water samples. Good linearity (>0.99) was obtained for most of the analytes, except in the case of 4-nonylphenol (0.9466). Precision (n = 4) at 50 and 500 ng L−1 levels was in the 2–24% and limits of detection (LODs) were in the 0.6–25 ng L−1 range for all the analytes studied.  相似文献

A simple and commercial readily-available approach that enables the direct use of ionic liquid (IL)-based single-drop microextraction (SDME) prior to gas chromatography (GC) is presented. The approach is based on thermal desorption (TD) of the analytes from the IL droplet to the GC system, by using a robust and commercially-available thermodesorption system. For this purpose, a two-glass-tube concentrically disposed system was designed. The inner tube is a laboratory-cut Pyrex tube (20 mm length) that houses the ionic liquid droplet from the SDME process, and the outer tube is a commercially-available TD glass tube (187 mm length) commonly employed for stir-bar sorptive extractions (SBSE). In this way, the proposed device prevents IL from entering the GC system, as this could dirty the inlet or even block the column. The determination of 10 chlorobenzenes in water samples by GC coupled with mass spectrometric (MS) detection has been chosen as model analytical application, showing the feasibility of the proposed approach. The SDME process consists of a 5 μL droplet of 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ([C6MIM][PF6]) suspended in the headspace (HS) of a 10 mL stirred sample. After extracting for 37 min at room temperature, the IL droplet is directly placed into the small inner tube, which is placed into the TD tube. The whole device is placed inside the TD unit, where desorption of the analytes is performed at 240 °C for 5 min with a helium flow rate of 100 mL min−1. The analytical figures of merit of the proposed IL-(HS)-SDME-TD-GC–MS approach are very suitable for the determination of chlorobenzenes at ultratrace levels, with relative standard deviation values ranging between 2% and 17%, and limits of detection ranging between 1 and 4 ng L−1, showing the potential offered by the IL-based SDME process with GC.  相似文献

This study presents the development of an analytical method for determining 9 synthetic musks in water matrices. The developed method is based on stir bar sorptive extraction (SBSE), coated with polydimethylsiloxane, and coupled with a thermal desorption–gas chromatography–mass spectrometry system (TD–GC–MS). SBSE can efficiently trap and desorb the analytes providing low limits of detection (between 0.02 ng L−1 and 0.3 ng L−1). Method validation showed good linearity, repeatability and reproducibility for all compounds. Furthermore, the limited manipulation of the sample required in this method implies a significant decrease of the risk of external contamination of the samples. The performance of the method in real samples was evaluated by analysing biological wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) influent and effluent samples, reverse osmosis treatment plant effluents and river waters. The most abundant musk was galaxolide with values up to 2069 ng L−1 and 1432 ng L−1 in the influent and effluent of urban WWTP samples, respectively. Cashmeran, Pantolide and Tonalide were also detected in all the matrices with values up to 94 ng L−1, 26 ng L−1 and 88 ng L−1, respectively. Although in Europe the use of nitromusks in cosmetics is prohibited, musk xylene and musk ketone were detected both in the WWTP and in the river samples. As far as we know, this is the first time than a SBSE method coupled with TD is applied for the determination of synthetic musks in water samples.  相似文献

In this work, the suitability of the microporous membrane liquid–liquid extraction (MMLLE) technique for the concentration of several organophosphate esters (OPs) in water samples is assessed. Analytes were first extracted into a few microlitres of an organic solvent, immobilized in the pores of a hollow polypropylene membrane, and then determined by gas chromatography with nitrogen–phosphorus detection (GC–NPD). Main parameters controlling the efficiency of the extraction step were identified and their effects on the performance of the technique discussed. Under final working conditions, 2 cm long polypropylene membranes, containing about 7 μL of octanol in the pores, were dipped in a glass vial filled with 115 mL of water with a 30% of sodium chloride. Extractions were carried out for 12 h, at room temperature, under magnetic stirring. After that, analytes were recovered from the membrane with 0.2 mL of ethyl acetate. This extract was mixed with the internal standard (50 μL of a tripentyl phosphate solution in the same solvent) and finally reduced to ca. 50 μL. Overall enrichment factors for the optimized method ranged from 35 to 1400 times, and the achieved limits of quantification from 0.008 to 0.12 ng mL−1, depending on the considered compound. Globally, the method showed an acceptable linearity and precision for all species, except for tris(2-ethylhexyl) phosphate (TEHP). Performance of the MMLLE approach is compared with that reported for other solid- and liquid-phase microextraction techniques and its suitability for the analysis of real water samples discussed.  相似文献

A method for determination of low concentrations of chloramphenicol in urine, feed water, milk and honey was developed. A comparison was carried out between a routinely used analytical method based on solid phase extraction (SPE-C18) for cleaning the extract and the new procedure for the sample preparation using columns based on the molecular imprinted polymers (MIP) principle. The extracts obtained from the MIP clean-up procedure were clean enough for chromatografic analyses. Confirmatory analyses were conducted using GC/MS-NCI after derivatisation (silylation). The described method was fully validated according to CD 2002/657/EC. This method is considerably robust and allows very dirty samples to be processed. The described MIP procedure is very simple and low-time-consuming, and provides high throughput of the samples examined. This could be used for routine screening and confirmatory analyses as well.  相似文献

The development and performance evaluation of an analytical method dedicated to the comprehensive determination of the most relevant antioxidants and their metabolites in aqueous environmental samples is presented. This was achieved by a miniaturised solid-phase extraction (SPE) with 10 mg Oasis HLB cartridges, which allow to achieve a concentration factor of 200, reducing organic solvent wastes (1 mL of ethyl acetate suffices for complete elution) and SPE costs and eliminating the need for solvent evaporation that otherwise compromises the recoveries of butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) and 2,6-di-tert-butylcyclohexa-2,5-diene-1,4-dione (BHT-Q). Analytes were then determined by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) after derivatisation with N-methyl-N-(tert-butyldimethylsilyl)-trifluoroacetamide (MTBSTFA) in a single run. BHT-d7 and n-propyl-paraben-d4 (PrP-d4) were used as surrogate internal standards. These surrogates allowed obtaining relative recoveries in the 80–110% range for all analytes even with complex wastewater samples and LODs at the 2–44 ng L−1 level taking into account blank issues often associated to antioxidants analysis. The method was applied to sewage and river waters, showing that the seven analytes could be detected in raw wastewater. BHT and BHT-Q were the most concentrated species in that type of sample (in the 275–871 ng L−1 range). On the other hand two metabolites of BHT, 3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxybenzaldehyde (BHT-CHO) and 3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxybenzoic acid (BHT-COOH) appeared to be the most ubiquitous species, being found in all samples in the 10–150 ng L−1 concentration range.  相似文献
