Stable, transparent and superhydrophobic carbon nanotube (CNT) nanocomposite films were fabricated by one-step spray casting process using the polystyrene functionalized CNTs, which were prepared by “living” free-radical polymerization and analyzed by means of infrared spectroscopy and thermal gravimetric analysis. The CNT film has a high water contact angle of 160° and a sliding angle of less than 3°. The surface topography of the fabricated film was characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy. The transparency of the CNT film was investigated by UV–vis spectroscopy. The result shows that the CNT film has light transmittance of about 78% in the visible light region.  相似文献

Wetting behavior of solid surfaces is a key concern in our daily life as well as in engineering and science. In the present study, we demonstrate a simple dip coating method for the preparation of Thermally stable, transparent superhydrophobic silica films on glass substrates at room temperature by sol-gel process. The coating alcosol was prepared by keeping the molar ratio of methyltriethoxysilane (MTES), trimethylmethoxysilane (TMMS), methanol (MeOH), water (H2O) constant at 1:0.09:12.71:3.58, respectively with 13 M NH4OH throughout the experiments and the films were prepared with different deposition time varied from 5 to 25 h. In order to improve the hydrophobicity of as deposited silica films, the films were derivatized with 10% trimethylchlorosilane (TMCS) as a silylating agent in hexane solvent for 24 h. Enhancement in wetting behavior was observed for surface derivatized silica films which showed a maximum static water contact angle (172°) and minimum sliding angle (2°) for 25 h of deposition time. The superhydrophobic silica films retained their superhydrophobicity up to a temperature of 550 °C. The silica films were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), surface profilometer, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, thermo-gravimetric and differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA), percentage of optical transmission, water contact angle measurements. The imperviousness behavior of the films was tested with various acids.  相似文献

Fabrication of superhydrophobic wood surface by a sol-gel process   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
The superhydrophobic wood surface was fabricated via a sol-gel process followed by a fluorination treatment of 1H, 1H, 2H, 2H- perfluoroalkyltriethoxysilanes (POTS) reagent. The crystallization type of silica nanoparticles on wood surface was characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), the microstructure and chemical composition of the superhydrophobic wood surface were described by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS), the bonding force between the silica nanoparticles and POTS reagent was analyzed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and the superhydrophobic property of the treated sample was measured by contact angle (CA) measurements. An analytical characterization revealed that nanoscale silica spheres stacked uniformly over the wood surface, and with the combination of the high surface roughness of silica nanoparticles and the low surface free energy film of POTS on wood surface, the wood surface has turned its wetting property from hydrophilic into superhydrophobic with a water contact angle of 164° and sliding angle less than 3°.  相似文献

An essential feature of the ambient pressure dried aerogel manufacturing process is the end-capping of the reactive silanol groups in the silica wet gel. In this report, we have presented the effect of two different trimethyl silylating agents viz. trimethylchlorosilane (TMCS) and hexamethyldisilazane (HMDZ) on the hydrophobic and physical properties of ambient pressure dried silica aerogels. The hydrogels were prepared by sol-gel processing of sodium silicate precursor (Na2SiO3) in the presence of acetic acid catalyst followed by vapour passing treatment and different solvent exchanging steps. The silylating agent in hexane was used for end-capping of the silanols present on the silica surface of the gel. To study silylation behavior silylating agent/Na2SiO3 molar ratio was varied from 2.4 to 5.6. The aerogels have been characterized by density, % of volume shrinkage, porosity, % of optical transmission, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Thermo-gravimetric and Differential Thermal Analysis (TG-DTA) and contact angle measurements.  相似文献

Surface roughness is a key point for all X-ray reflective optics, and is in general obtained through careful polishing and surface finishing. Here we propose a simple and inexpensive procedure to drastically reduce surface roughness: using sol-gel silica coatings. The motivation for this work is the improvement of X-ray mirrors obtained on Si substrate using micro-fabrication technology, where the usual polishing methods cannot be applied. Sol-gel silica layers dramatically reduce surface roughness and enhance the X-ray reflectivity up to acceptable values. The proof-of-principle presented in this paper can be further improved and applied to systems of different nature.  相似文献

By applying alkaline-catalyzed co-hydrolysis and copolycondensation reactions of tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) and methyltriethoxysilane (MTES) in organic siloxane modified polyacrylate emulsion (OSPA emulsion), we are able to demonstrate the potential for developing a sol-gel derived organic-inorganic hybrid emulsion for a superhydrophobic surface research. TEOS and MTES derived sol-gel moieties can be designed for a physical roughness and hydrophobic characteristic (Si-CH3) of the hybrid superhydrophobic surface, while OSPA emulsion can be endowed for good film-forming property. The effect of formulation parameters on superhydrophobicity and film-forming property was analyzed. The water contact angle (WCA) on the sol-gel derived hybrid film is determined to be 156°, and the contact angle hysteresis is 5° by keeping the mole ratio of TEOS:MTES:C2H5OH:NH3·H2O:AMP-95 at 1:4:30:10:0.63 and the mass percentage of OSPA emulsion at 25%. The nanoparticle-based silica rough surface is observed as the mole ratio of MTES/TEOS at 4:1. The sol-gel derived organic-inorganic hybrid emulsion shows remarkable film-forming property when the mole ratio of MTES/TEOS reaches or exceeds 4:1. With the primer coating, the performance of superhydrophobic film achieve actual use standard. It reveals that this new procedure is an effective shortcut to obtain a superhydrophobic surface with potential applications.  相似文献

Non-wettable surfaces with high contact angles and facile sliding angle of water droplets have received tremendous attention in recent years. The present paper describes the room temperature (∼27 °C) synthesis of dip coated water repellent silica coatings on glass substrates using iso-butyltrimethoxysilane (iso-BTMS) as a co-precursor. Emphasis is given to the influence of the hydrophobic reagent (iso-BTMS) on the water repellent properties of the silica films. Silica sol was prepared by keeping the molar ratio of tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) precursor, methanol (MeOH) solvent, water (H2O) constant at 1:16.53:8.26 respectively, with 0.01 M NH4F throughout the experiment and the molar ratio of iso-BTMS/TEOS (M) was varied from 0 to 0.965. The effect of M on the surface structure and hydrophobicity has been researched. The static water contact angle values of the silica films increased from 65° to 140° and water sliding angle values decreased from 42° to 16° with an increase in the M value from 0 to 0.965. The water repellent silica films are thermally stable up to a temperature of 280 °C and above this temperature the film shows hydrophilic behavior. The water repellent silica films were characterized by the Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) Spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), % of optical transmission, thermal and chemical aging tests, humidity tests, static and dynamic water contact angle measurements.  相似文献

Control on the wettability of solid materials by liquid is a classical and key issue in surface engineering. Optically transparent water-repellent silica films have been spin-deposited on glass substrates at room temperature (∼27 °C). The wetting behavior of silica films was controlled by surface silylation method using dimethylchlorosilane (DMCS) as a silylating reagent. A coating sol was prepared by keeping the molar ratio of methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMS) precursor, methanol (MeOH) solvent, water (H2O) constant at 1:8.8:2.64 respectively, with 4 M NH4OH as a catalyst throughout the experiments and the amount of DMCS in hexane was varied from 0 to 12 vol.%. It was found that with an increase in vol.% of DMCS, the water contact angle values of the films increased from 78° to 136°. At 12 vol.% of DMCS, the film shows static water contact angle as high as 136° and water sliding angle as low as 18°. The hydrophobic silica films retained their water repellency up to a temperature 295 °C and above this temperature the films show superhydrophilic behavior. These results are compared with our earlier research work done on silylation of silica surface using hexamethyldisilazane (HMDZ) and trimethylchlorosilane (TMCS). The hydrophobic silica films were characterized by taking into consideration the Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, thermo gravimetric-differential thermal (TG-DT) analyses, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), % of optical transmission, thermal and chemical aging tests, humidity tests, static and dynamic water contact angle measurements.  相似文献

Superhydrophobic surfaces based on ZnO-PDMS nanocomposite coatings are demonstrated by a simple, facile, time-saving, wet chemical route. ZnO nanopowders with average particle size of 14 nm were synthesized by a low temperature solution combustion method. Powder X-ray diffraction results confirm that the nanopowders exhibit hexagonal wurtzite structure and belong to space group P63mc. Field emission scanning electron micrographs reveal that the nanoparticles are connected to each other to make large network systems consisting of hierarchical structure. The as formed ZnO coating exhibits wetting behaviour with Water Contact Angle (WCA) of ∼108°, however on modification with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), it transforms to superhydrophobic surface with measured contact and sliding angles for water at 155° and less than 5° respectively. The surface properties such as surface free energy (γp), interfacial free energy (γpw), and the adhesive work (Wpw) were evaluated. Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) studies on superhydrophobic coatings revealed that the surface defects play a major role on the wetting behaviour. Advantages of the present method include the cheap and fluorine-free raw materials, environmentally benign solvents, and feasibility for applying on large area of different substrates.  相似文献

Nanoporous ZnO/SiO2 bilayer coatings were prepared on the surface of glass substrates via sol-gel dip-coating process. The structural, morphological and optical properties of the coatings were characterized. The refractive indices of ZnO layer and SiO2 layer are 1.34 and 1.21 at 550 nm, respectively. The transmittance and reflectance spectra of the coatings were investigated and the broadband antireflection performance of the bilayer structure was determined over the solar spectrum. The solar transmittances in the range of 300-1200 nm and 1200-2500 nm are increased by 6.5% and 6.2%, respectively. The improvement of transmittance is attributed to the destructive interference of light reflected from interfaces between the different refractive-index layers with an optimized thickness. Such antireflection coatings of ZnO/SiO2 provide a promising route for solar energy applications.  相似文献

Sm-Co based nanomagnetic material was synthesized by means of a Pechini-type sol-gel process. In this method, a suitable gel-precursor was prepared using respective metal salts and complexing agent such as citric acid. The gel-precursor was dried at 300 °C and then subjected to various reductive annealing temperatures: 350, 500 and 600 °C. The nanopowders so obtained were characterized for their structure, phase composition and magnetic properties. FT-IR studies on the gel-precursor showed the binding of metal cations with the citrate molecules in the form of metal-citrate complex. The gel-precursor, which was annealed at 350 °C showed the presence of both meta-stable cobalt carbide (Co2C, Co3C) and Co3O4 phases; while the sample annealed at 500 °C indicated the sign of SmCo5 phase. Upon increasing the reductive annealing temperature to 600 °C, crystalline phase such as fcc-Co and Sm2C3 were formed prominently. FE-SEM analysis revealed the change in sample morphology from spherical to oblate spheres upon increasing the annealing temperature. VSM measurements demonstrated ferromagnetic nature at room temperature for all the nanopowders obtained irrespective of their after reductive annealing temperature.  相似文献
