The mass of the axion and its decay rate are known to depend only on the scale of Peccei–Quinn symmetry breaking, which is constrained by astrophysics and cosmology to be between 109 and 1012 GeV. We propose a new mechanism such that this effective scale is preserved and yet the fundamental breaking scale of U(1)PQ is very small (a kind of inverse seesaw) in the context of large extra dimensions with an anomalous U(1) gauge symmetry in our brane. The production and decay of the associated ZA gauge boson, which ends up as two gluons and two axions, is a distinct collider signature of this scenario.  相似文献

We show that maximal atmospheric and large solar neutrino mixing can be implemented in SU(5) gauge theories, by making use of the U(1) F symmetry associated with a suitably defined family number F, together with a Z2 symmetry which does not commute with F. U(1) F is softly broken by the mass terms of the right-handed neutrino singlets, which are responsible for the seesaw mechanism; in additio n, U(1) F is also spontaneously broken at the electroweak scale. In our scenario, lepton mixing stems exclusively from the right-handed-neutrino Majorana mass matrix, whereas the CKM matrix originates solely in the up-type-quark sector. We show that, despite the non-supersymmetric character of our model, unification of the gauge couplings can be achieved at a scale 1016 GeV < m U < 1019 GeV; indeed, we have found a particula r solution to this problem which yields results almost identical to the ones of the minimal supersymmetric standard model. The first LHC results seem to disfavor, from the point of view of naturalness, any constrained MSSM realization with universal conditions at the SUSY-breaking scale. A more motivated scenario is given by split-family SUSY, in which the first two generations of squarks are heavy, compatible with a U(2)3 flavor symmetry. We consider this flavor symmetry to be broken at a very high scale and study the consequences at low energies through its RGE evolution. Initial conditions compatible with a split scenario are found, and the preservation of correlations from minimal U(2)3 breaking are checked. The various chiral operators in ΔF=2 processes are analyzed, and we show that, due to LHC gluino bounds, the (LL)(RR) operators cannot always be neglected. Finally, we also study a possible extension of the U(2)3 model compatible with the lepton sector.  相似文献

If the smallness of the mass of the sterile neutrino is to be explained by the see-saw mechanism, the off-diagonal entries of the mass matrix needs to be protected by some symmetry not far above the electroweak scale. We implement see-saw mechanism in a gauge model based on SU(2)qL×SU(2)lL×U(1)qY×U(1)lY un-unified gauge group which breaks to SU(2)L×U(1)Y at the TeV region via a two-step symmetry breaking chain. The right handed diagonal block is tied to the highest scale up to which the un-unification symmetry holds. The sterile neutrino emerges from a quark-lepton mixed representation of the un-unified group.  相似文献

We study chiral and UA(1) phase transition in the dilute gas approximation. A comprehensive analysis of the mass and mixing angel of η and η reveals that in the transition of the quark-gluon-plasma droplets to the hadrons, besides the chiral phase transition, the UA(1) phase transition also plays a significant and non-trivial role.  相似文献

We present a supersymmetricSU(5)×U(1) model. This model has the following features. The gauge hierarchy is naturally generated by the quadratically divergent nature of the Fayet-IliopoulosD term. TheSU(5)×U(1) gauge symmetry breaks uniquely intoSU(3) W ×SU(2) c ×U(1) y at an energy scale of 1017–18GeV. The non-vanishing vacuum expectation value of an auxiliary field component ofU(1) gauge vector multiplet induces the breaking ofSU(2) W ×U(1) y . It gives a mass of 102–3GeV to scalar quarks and scalar leptons at the tree level. The renormalization group analysis shows that the color fine structure constant α C (M W ) becomes somewhat small and the Weinberg angle sin2θ W (M W ) somewhat too large in a simple version of the model.  相似文献

A new parafermionic algebra associated with the homogeneous space A(2)2/U(1) and its corresponding Z-algebra have been recently proposed. In this paper, we give a free boson representation of the A(2)2 parafermion algebra in terms of seven free fields. Free field realizations of the parafermionic energy–momentum tensor and screening currents are also obtained. A new algebraic structure is discovered, which contains a W-algebra type primary field with spin two.  相似文献

We present a general formalism of the NLO susceptibilities by using the Genkin-Mednis approach for a one-dimensional electron-lattice system. Based on the SSH model, we obtained an analytic expression for the third-order nonlinear optical susceptibilities χ(3)(ω) for polydiacetylenes (PDAs) after considering the case of conjugated chains, in which there is no adjustable parameter. The results are in good agreement with experiments on PDAs. Furthermore, the origin of the second peak in the χ(3)(ω) spectrum of PDAs is discussed, and a transition mechanism is proposed. It is believed that when the external light field is applied along the centrosymmetric polymer backbone, the parity symmetry of the system is broken, there occurs a mixing between the even- and odd-parity exciton states, leading to the transition from the ground state to the Ag excited state, and accordingly a second sharp peak appears in the χ(3)(ω) spectrum which could be attributed to the three-photon resonance with the Ag exciton generation process at around 2.2 eV.  相似文献

We introduce and study new integrable models (IMs) of An(1)-nonabelian Toda type which admit U(1)⊗U(1) charged topological solitons. They correspond to the symmetry breaking SU(n+1)→SU(2)⊗SU(2)⊗U(1)n−2 and are conjectured to describe charged dyonic domain walls of N=1 SU(n+1) SUSY gauge theory in large n limit. It is shown that this family of relativistic IMs corresponds to the first negative grade q=−1 member of a dyonic hierarchy of generalized cKP type. The explicit relation between the 1-soliton solutions (and the conserved charges as well) of the IMs of grades q=−1 and q=2 is found. The properties of the IMs corresponding to more general symmetry breaking SU(n+1)→SU(2)pU(1)np as well as IM with global SU(2) symmetries are discussed.  相似文献

We study the possibility that theU(1) B global symmetry associated with baryon number is spontaneously broken. We present realistic examples implemented in the context of a suitably extended standardSU(2) L×U(1)×SU(3)c model and of a composite model of quarks and leptons. The globalU(1) B symmetry in both cases is spontaneously broken at a relatively low mass scale without any conflict with observations. The dominant baryon number nonconserving process in these models obeys the ΔB=2 selection rule.  相似文献

The general features of low-energy, rank-six left-right symmetric models as inspired by the superstring are examined. Particular attention is paid to the mass-mixing matrix of the exotic and downtype quarks. It is found that the class of models based on the groupSU(3) C ×SU(2) L ×SU(2) N ×U(1) L ×U(1) R is plagued with the problem of unnatural fine tuning. Models based on the other left-right group, namelySU(3) C ×SU(2) L ×SU(2) N ×U(1) L ×U(1) R , work rather well from the points of view investigated. In this case a parameter fitting is presented which is compatible with the lowering of the group rank by two units via radiative breaking, without conflicting either with weak universality or with lepton conservation. The unification scale comes in the 1017 GeV mass range, the intermediate (righthanded) scale is quite low, not exceeding the 104 GeV range, and the Weinberg angle is correct. Good prospects are also obtained for proton decay and neutrino masses.  相似文献

Using the previously obtained universalR-matrix for the quantized nontwisted affine Lie algebras U q (A 1 (1) ) and U q (A 2 (1) ), we determine the explicitly spectral dependent universalR-matrix for the corresponding quantum Lie algebras U q (A 1) and U q (A 2). As applications, we reproduce the well known results in the fundamental representations and we also derive an extremely explicit formula of the spectral-dependentR-matrix for the adjoint representation of U q (A 2), the simplest nontrivial case when the tensor product decomposition of the representation with itself has nontrivial multiplicity.  相似文献

An extension of the fixed momentum transfer representation for an S-matrix representation of elementary particles is developed. In this representation it is postulated that a function SU(2) on the second sheet can be found such that the matrix product SSU(2) is analytic everywhere in a complex energy plane, and SU(2) is a continuation of S1 in the neighborhood of the right-hand cut. The problem of π+p scattering is considered. The kinematic variables are continued from the physical region to the neighborhood of the Born pole, and the unitary equation is there applied. A function for SU(2) was chosen there with parameters determined by unitarity. Two calculations were made, each with a different choice for the form of SU(2). It is shown how unitarity determines the coupling constant together with the values of the parameters of SU(2). The calculated value of the coupling constant, in both cases, is ~ 16, in good agreement with experiment.  相似文献

Light-front quantization of the conformally gauge-fixed Polyakov D1 brane action in the presence of a constant background scalar axion field C(τ, σ) and an U(1) gauge field A α (τ, σ) is studied. The axion field C and the U(1) gauge field A α , are seen to behave like the Wess–Zumino (WZ) fields and the term involving these fields is seen to behave like a WZ term for this action.  相似文献

We derive and classify all regular solutions of the boundary Yang-Baxter equation for 19-vertex models known as Zamolodchikov-Fateev or A1(1) model, Izergin-Korepin or A2(2) model, sl(2|1) model and the osp(2|1) model. We find that there is a general solution for A1(10) and sl(2|1) models. In both models it is a complete K-matrix with three free parameters. For the A2(2) and os(2|1) models we find three general solutions, being two complete reflection K-matrices solutions and one incomplete reflection K-matrix solution with some null entries. In both models these solutions have two free parameters. Integrable spin-1 Hamiltonians with general boundary interactions are also presented. Several reduced solutions from these general solutions are presented in the appendices.  相似文献

Charge distribution studies were carried out in the thermal neutron-induced fission of 229Th, 241Pu and 245Cm as well as in the spontaneous fission of 252Cf. The width parameter (σz/σA), the most probable charge/mass (Zp/Ap) and the charge polarization (ΔZ) as a function of fragment mass were deduced. The slope of charge polarization as a function of fragment mass [δ(ΔZ)/δA′], average charge dispersion parameter (〈σz〉) and proton odd-even effect (δp) were also obtained for these fissioning systems. These data along with the literature data for even-Z fissioning systems such as 233Th1, 233U1, 234U1, 236U1, 239U1, 239Pu1, 240Pu1 and 250Cf1 are discussed in terms of nuclear-structure effects and dynamics of descent from saddle point to the point of neck formation and from the formation of the neck to the scission point.  相似文献

The effective potential is calculated for a two dimensionalU(N) gauge theory with scalar quarks to leading order in the 1/N expansion. If there is noφ 4 interaction present, the potential is unbounded from below. If theφ 4 interaction is present, the potential is bounded from below and there is an unbroken and a spontaneously broken symmetry phase. The bound state spectrum of the unbroken phase is very similar to that of anU(N) gauge theory without theφ 4 term.  相似文献
