ZnO nanoparticles are one of the prominent photocatalysts for environmental applications due to its high redox ability, nontoxic and higher stability. This report explains the synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles by a simple solution combustion method using zinc nitrate hexahydrate as an oxidizing agent and incense stick powder as fuel at 400 °C. Several techniques were adopted for the characterization of the obtained product. X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern shows that a lower concentration of fuel gives pure ZnO and a higher concentration of fuel results in calcium doped ZnO with a cubic phase having a crystallite size of 32–28 nm. UV–vis spectrum shows that as the fuel concentration increases, band gap decreases and reaches to 3.33 eV for 3 g of fuel. Spongy networks with many pores wereobserved in the scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) images showed the average particle size of Ca doped ZnO NPs is about 20 nm. Pure and Ca doped ZnO nanoparticles were examined for photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue (MB) dye under UV light irradiation. The results prove that Ca doped ZnO nanoparticles show good photocatalytic activity.  相似文献

In this study, dual doped Zinc oxide nanoparticles consisted of silver and magnesium were prepared by Salvadora persica extract. Powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) analysis displayed the formation of wurtzite ZnO phase nanostructures and dual doped nanoparticles. The morphological observations of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) confirmed the hexagonal morphology of prepared nanoparticles. The Raman scattering of this product exhibited the first and second orders of polar and non-polar modes that are the characteristic bonds of a wurtzite structure. The toxicity effects of synthesized un-doped, as well as Ag and Mg dual doped ZnO NPs on breast cancer cell (MDA-MB-231) and breast normal cell (MCF-10A) lines, were investigated by the means of MTT test. Accordingly, in comparison to the case of silver and magnesium doped zinc oxide nanoparticles, the un-doped ZnO NPs caused a more toxic impact on MDA-MB-231cells. There was a lack of any significant toxicity effects from un-doped and Ag and Mg dual doped ZnO nanoparticles on the experimented normal cell line (MCF-10A). The gathered results were indicative of a lower toxicity effect in doped nanoparticles when compared to un-doped nanoparticles and therefore, it can be stated that the doping of silver and magnesium metals produces more reliable zinc oxide nanoparticles.  相似文献

The present research deals with the synthesis of zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles by the co-precipitation (CPT) method. The CPT method was successfully utilized for the synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles. The structural properties of undoped ZnO and cobalt doped ZnO were confirmed by employing an X-ray diffraction (XRD) study, from which the average particle size for each prepared material was calculated from the Debye Scherer formula. The average particle size confirms the nano range fabrication of undoped and cobalt doped ZnO material. The surface characteristics, morphology, texture, and porosity properties of undoped ZnO and cobalt doped ZnO were investigated from scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The elemental composition was investigated from energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The High-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) results revealed the hexagonal phase of prepared material. Furthermore, the undoped ZnO and 5% cobalt doped ZnO gas sensors prepared by screen printing technology were utilized for gas sensing purposes for testing the gases like H2S, NO2, SO2, and methanol. For the gases examined, the cobalt modified ZnO sensor proved to be quite effective, especially for H2S and NO2 gas vapors. The Co2+ doped ZnO sensor showed 70.12% sensitivity for H2S gas at 150 0C and 68.75% gas response for NO2 gas vapors at 120 0C. In addition, the cobalt modified sensor was also investigated for reusability test to get concrete gas response results with the time interval of 15 days. In conclusion, it can be mentioned that the cobalt doped ZnO thick film sensor is a promising sensor for H2S and NO2 gas vapors.  相似文献

The disinfection of wastewater using nanoparticles (NPs) has become a focal area of research in water treatment. In this study, zinc oxide (ZnO) NPs were synthesized using the microwave heating crystallization technique and characterized using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Qualitative well diffusion and quantitative minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) tests were conducted to determine the antimicrobial activity of ZnO NPs against selected waterborne pathogenic microbes. FTIR spectral studies confirmed that the binding of urea with Zn occurs through Zn–O stretching. XRD confirmed the crystallized identity in a hexagonal ZnO wurtzite-type structure. The formation of zones of inhibition and low MIC values in the antimicrobial analysis were indicative of the effective antimicrobial activity of zinc oxide nanoparticles against the test microorganisms. The application of metallic nanoparticles in water treatment could curb the spread of waterborne microbial diseases.  相似文献

Luminescence properties of nanosized zinc oxide (ZnO) colloids depend greatly on their surface properties, which are in turn largely determined by the method of preparation. ZnO nanoparticles in the size range from 3 to 9 nm were prepared by addition of tetramethylammonium hydroxide ((CH3)4NOH) to an ethanolic zinc acetate solution. X-ray diffraction (XRD) indicates nanocrystalline ZnO membranes with polycrystalline hexagonal wurtzite structure. The ZnO membranes have a strong visible-emission intensity and the intensity depends upon hydrolysis time. The infrared spectra imply a variety of forms of zinc acetate complexes present on the surface of ZnO particles. The effect of the ZnO membrane surface properties on photoluminescence is discussed.  相似文献

Mg-doped zinc oxide and zinc oxide nanoparticles were prepared by using methanolic seed extract from the Eucalyptus grandis plant via a green approach. Phytoconstituents present in seed extract act as capping and stabilizing agents for the biosynthesis of nanoparticles. Doping of Mg to zinc oxide nanoparticles increases the bandgap energy, thus enhancing its chemical, physical and optical properties. Further, it was characterized by various techniques such as scanning electron microscopy giving morphological information about the wurtzite hexagonal structure of bio-synthesized nanoparticles. X-ray diffraction technique tells about the crystalline nature of particles and the average crystallite size for zinc oxide and doped zinc oxide nanoparticles. Mg as a dopant enhances the properties of nanoparticles, thus making it more efficiently applicable as an antibacterial agent against Escherichia coli, gram-negative bacteria.  相似文献

The liquid precipitation method using zinc acetate dihydrate was applied for the synthesis of uniform and spherical ZnO nanoparticles. The ultrafine zinc oxid was prepared in a water‐ethanol mixture solution. The solution containing zinc cation was soluble in water. The surface‐active agent triethanolamine (TEA) was soluble in ethanol. Then alkali precipitated by adding n‐propylamine. The spherical zinc oxide particle morphology was found to be highly dependent on the zinc salt concentration, ethanol‐water ratio, and the surface‐active agent additive. The process can produce white ZnO powder of 50–90 nm in size. The morphology of zinc oxide showed a powder shape by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), the crystallization phase structure of zinc oxide by X‐ray diffraction (XRD), and the zinc oxide remaining by using an organic analysis by infrared spectroscopy (IR).  相似文献

In this review, the importance of electrical arc discharge technique in liquids in synthesis of various nanostructures from carbon based materials to metal and metal oxide nanostructures with their general and specific properties, especially the photocatalytic performance of metal oxide nanostructures is studied. The effect of arc current on size distribution, morphology and physicochemical properties of metal and semiconductor nanostructures was investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), dynamic light scattering (DLS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and UV–Vis spectroscopy. WO3 Cubic nanostructures with 30 nm mean particle size were formed during the discharge process in water. Discharge between zinc electrodes in water leads to formation of rod like and semi spherical ZnO nanostructures with 15–20 nm diameter range. ZrO2 nanoparticles were formed using zirconium electrodes in water. Photodegradation of Rhodamine B (Rh. B) shows that the as prepared nanostructures in this method have potential ability for environmental purifications. Also, using silver electrodes in water leads to formation of silver nanoparticles with 8–15 nm average particle size. Moreover, a novel method for synthesis of gold nanoparticles without using gold electrodes is presented. Finally, the future outlook of this technique in synthesis of various nanocrystalline materials is presented.  相似文献

Zinc sulfide (ZnS) nanoparticles were prepared by homogeneous hydrolysis of zinc sulfate and thioacetamide (TAA) at 80 degrees C. After annealing at a temperature above 400 degrees C in oxygen atmosphere, zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles were obtained. The ZnS and ZnO nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), selected area electron diffraction (SAED), and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET)/Barrett-Joyner-Halenda (BJH) methods were used for surface area and porosity determination. The photocatalytic activity of as-prepared zinc oxide samples was determined by decomposition of Orange II dye in aqueous solution under UV irradiation of 365 nm wavelength. Synthesized ZnO were evaluated for their non-photochemical degradation ability of chemical warfare agents to nontoxic products.  相似文献

Nitrogen doped zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles have been synthesized using a colloidal route and low temperature nitridation process. Based on these results, 200 nm thick transparent ZnO thin films have been prepared by dip-coating on SiO2 substrate from a ZnO colloidal solution. Zinc peroxide (ZnO2) thin film was then obtained after the chemical conversion of a ZnO colloidal thin film by H2O2 solution. Finally, a nitrogen doped ZnO nanocrystalline thin film (ZnO:N) was obtained by ammonolysis at 250 °C. All the films have been characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, X-Ray photoelectron spectroscopy and UV–Visible transmittance spectroscopy.  相似文献

Zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs ) were prepared by a simple, convenient, and cost‐effective wet chemical method using the biopolymer starch. The prepared ZnO NPs were characterized by X‐ray diffraction (XRD ), scanning electron microscopy (SEM ), energy‐dispersive X‐ray (EDX ), Fourier transform infrared (FT‐IR ), and UV ‐visible spectroscopic techniques. The average crystallite size calculated from XRD data using the Debye–Scherer equation was found to be 15 nm. The electrochemical behavior of caffeine (CAF ) was studied using a glassy carbon electrode (GCE ) modified with zinc oxide nanoparticles by cyclic voltammetry (CV ) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV ). Compared to unmodified GCE , ZnO NPs‐ modified GCE (ZnO NPs MGCE ) exhibited excellent electrocatalytic activity towards CAF oxidation, which was evident from the increase in the peak current and decrease in the peak potential. Electrochemical impedance study suggested that the charge‐transfer capacity of GCE was significantly enhanced by ZnO NPs . The linear response of the peak current on the concentrations of CAF was in the range 2–100 μM . The detection limit was found to be 0.038 μM. The proposed sensor was successfully employed for the determination of CAF in commercial beverage samples.  相似文献

Sol–gel spin-coating was used to grow zinc oxide (ZnO) thin films doped with 0–2.5 at.% B on quartz substrates. The structural, optical, and electrical properties of the thin films were investigated using field-emission scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), photoluminescence (PL), ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy, and van der Pauw Hall-effect measurements. All the thin films had deposited well onto the quartz substrates and exhibited granular morphology. The average crystallite size, lattice constants, residual stress, and lengths of the bonds in the crystal lattice of the thin films were calculated from the XRD data. The PL spectra showed near-band-edge (NBE) and deep-level emissions, and B doping varied the PL properties and increased the efficiency of the NBE emission. The optical transmittance spectra for the undoped ZnO and boron-doped zinc oxide (BZO) thin films show that the optical transmittance of the BZO thin films was significantly higher than that of the undoped ZnO thin films in the visible region of the spectra and that the absorption edge of the BZO thin films was blue-shifted. In addition, doping the ZnO thin films with B significantly varied the absorption coefficient, optical band gap, Urbach energy, refractive index, extinction coefficient, single-oscillator energy, dispersion energy, average oscillator strength, average oscillator wavelength, dielectric constant, and optical conductivity of the BZO thin films. The Hall-effect data suggested that B doping also improved the electrical properties such as the carrier concentration, mobility, and resistivity of the thin films.  相似文献

Nanocrystalline ZnO particles have been prepared with different methods using zinc cyclohexanebutyrate as precursor in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) medium via alkaline hydrolysis. A series of preparations were carried out in the presence of layered silicates (kaolinite and montmorillonite). It was revealed by different measurement techniques that the presence of the clay minerals has a stabilization influence on the size of the ZnO nanocrystals. UV-vis absorption spectra show a blue shift when the nanoparticles are prepared in the presence of the clay minerals. The average particle diameters calculated from the Brus equation ranged from 2.6 to 13.0 nm. The UV-vis spectra of the synthesized nanoparticles did not show any red shift after 2-3 days, demonstrating that stable ZnO nanocrystals are present in the dispersions. The presence of the ZnO nanoparticles was also proven by fluorescence measurements. A number of the nanoparticles are incorporated into the interlamellar space of the clays, and an intercalated structure is formed as proven by X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements. The size of the nanoparticles in the interlamellar space is in the range of 1-2 nm according to the XRD patterns. Transmission electron microscopy and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy investigations were applied to determine directly the particle size and the size distribution of the nanoparticles.  相似文献

Well-aligned zinc oxide (ZnO) nanorods (NRs) arrays deposited with Ag nanoparticles (NPs) are prepared by a liquid phase epitaxial growth process followed by a reduction of Ag on the surface of the ZnO NRs. Transmission electron microscopy images show that most Ag NPs are deposited on the upper part of the ZnO NRs, and the overall optical absorption in the range of visible light can be enhanced due to the surface plasmon resonance of the Ag NPs. ZnO NRs with and without Ag NPs are used to assemble dye sensitized solar cells. Devices fabricated from the Ag NPs/ZnO NRs composite arrays exhibit a higher open voltage, short circuit current and fill factor than that fabricated from the bare ZnO NRs array, thus, the overall efficiency of the as-fabricated cell is increased from less than 0.5?% to 0.8?%. The main reason for the enhancement of the device performance may be ascribed to that the electron transfer back from ZnO to the dye and electrolyte is blocked by the Schottky barrier at the Ag/ZnO interface, resulting in a great increase of the electron density at the ZnO conduction band.  相似文献

Biogenic metal oxide nanoparticles (NPs) have emerged as a useful tool in biology due to their biocompatibility properties with most biological systems. In this study, we report the synthesis of copper oxide (CuO), zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles (NPs), and their nanocomposite (CuO–ZnO) prepared using the phytochemical extracts from the leaves of Dovyalis caffra (kei apple). The physicochemical properties of these nanomaterials were established using some characterization techniques including X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-vis), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). The XRD result confirmed the presence of a monoclinic CuO (Tenorite), and a hexagonal ZnO (Zincite) nanoparticles phase, which were both confirmed in the CuO–ZnO composite. The electron microscopy of the CuO–ZnO, CuO, and ZnO NPs showed a mixture of nano-scale sizes and spherical/short-rod morphologies, with some agglomeration. In the constituent’s analysis (EDX), no unwanted peak was found, which showed the absence of impurities. Antioxidant properties of the nanoparticles was studied, which confirmed that CuO–ZnO nanocomposite exhibited better scavenging potential than the individual metal oxide nanoparticles (CuO, and ZnO), and ascorbic acid with respect to their minimum inhibitory concentration (IC50) values. Similarly, the in vitro anticancer studies using MCF7 breast cancer cell lines indicated a concentration-dependent profile with the CuO–ZnO nanocomposite having the best activity over the respective metal oxides, but slightly lower than the standard 5-Fluorouracil drug.  相似文献

The freshly prepared water-wet amidoximated bacterial cellulose (Am-BC) serves as an effective nanoreactor to synthesis zinc oxide nanoparticles by in situ polyol method. The obtained ZnO/Am-BC nanocomposites have been characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The influence of the zinc acetate concentration on the morphologies and size ofZnO nanoparticles and the possible formation mechanism were discussed. The results indicated that uniform ZnO nanoparticles were homogeneously anchored on the Am-BC nanofibers through strong interaction between the hydroxyl and amino groups of Am-BC and ZnO nanoparticles. The loading content of ZnO nanoparticles is higher using Am-BC as a template than using the unmodified bacterial cellulose. The resultant nanocomposite synthesized at 0.05 wt% shows a high photocatalytic activity (92%) in the degradation of methyl orange.  相似文献

The effect of solvent composition on particle formation during flame spray pyrolysis of inexpensive metal-nitrates has been investigated for alumina, iron oxide, cobalt oxide, zinc oxide and magnesium oxide. The as-prepared materials were characterized by electron microscopy, nitrogen adsorption, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and disc centrifugation (XDC). The influence of solvent parameters such as boiling point, combustion enthalpy and chemical reactivity on formation of either homogeneous nanoparticles by evaporation/nucleation/coagulation (gas-to-particle conversion) or large particles through precipitation and conversion within the sprayed droplets (droplet-to-particle conversion) is discussed. For Al(2)O(3), Fe(2)O(3), Co(3)O(4) and partly also MgO, the presence of a carboxylic acid in the FSP solution resulted in homogeneous nanoparticles. This is attributed to formation of volatile metal carboxylates in solution as evidenced by attenuated total reflectance spectroscopy (ATR). For ZnO and MgO rather homogeneous nanoparticles were formed regardless of solvent composition. For ZnO this is attributed to its relatively low dissociation temperature compared to other oxides. While for MgO this is traced to the high decomposition temperature of Mg(NO(3))(2) together with Mg(OH)(2)?MgO transformations. Cobalt oxide (Co(3)O(4)) nanoparticles made by FSP were not aggregated but rather loosely agglomerated as determined by the excellent agreement between XRD- and XDC-derived crystallite and particle sizes, respectively, pointing out the potential of FSP to make non-aggregated particles.  相似文献
