Differential cross sections for elastic scattering of the 59.54 keV γ-rays in elements with 22 ≤Z ≤92 have been measured over the angular range 10–160corresponding to the momentum transfer 0.4 ≤x ≤4.7 Å-1. The measurements at forward and backward angles were performed using the 241Am radioactive point-source, target and the Ge detectors in the transmission and reflection arrangements, respectively. The measured differential scattering cross sections are compared with those based on the form-factor (FF) formalism and state-of-the-art S-matrix calculations to differentiate between their relative efficacies and to check angular-dependence of the anomalous scattering factors (ASF) incorporated as correction to the modified form-factor (MF). The S-matrix values exhibit agreement with the measured data at backward angles and differences ~10% at forward angles. The scattering cross sections based on the MF including ASF’s are in general lower at various angles by up to 20% for medium- and high-Z elements. The observed deviations being higher at the forward angles infer possibility of angular-dependence of ASF’s.  相似文献

The energies and intensities of the various transitions corresponding to the transition scheme 2p3/2?13x?1–3x?13d3/2?1 (i.e. L3Mx–MxM4) were used to compute theoretical Lα2 satellite spectra in 13 elements in the atomic number range of 62 ≤ Z ≤ 90. The energies were calculated using available HFS data on K–LM and L–MM transition energies. The intensities of all the possible transitions were estimated by considering cross‐sections for the Auger transitions simultaneous to a hole creation and then distributing statistically the total cross‐sections for initial two‐hole states 2p3/2?13x?1 (L3Mx) amongst various allowed transitions from these initial states to 3x?13d3/2?1 (MxM4) final states. Each transition was assumed to give rise to a Gaussian line and the overall spectrum was computed as the sum of these Gaussian curves. The calculated spectra were compared with the available measured Lα satellite spectra. The peaks in the theoretical satellite spectra were identified as the experimentally reported satellites Lαs, La13, La14 and La17, which lie on the high‐energy side of the Lα2 dipole line. In this paper, we report the coherent scattering cross sections of some lanthanides at low momentum transfer in four angular ranges of (0°?4°), (0°?6°), (0°?8°) and for 241Am (59.54 keV) and 137Cs (661.6 keV) gamma rays. The coherent scattering cross sections were derived by subtracting the small contribution of the corresponding angle integrated incoherent scattering cross sections from the experimentally measured total (coherent + incoherent) scattering cross sections for the elements and energies of interest. The coherent scattering cross sections were found to agree with the corresponding theoretical cross sections within the range of experimental errors. The theoretical coherent scattering cross sections were computed by numerically integrating the S-matrix data of the elements in the angular ranges of interest. The incoherent scattering cross sections were based on the compilations which make use of the non-relativistic Hartree-Fock (NRHF) model for the atomic charge distribution.  相似文献

The inclusive cross sections for η production by the interactions of 280 GeV/c momentum π?, π+, and proton beams in hydrogen have been measured. The kinematical range covered is ?0.45<x F <0.45, and 4.0<P T <7.0 GeV/c for Feynmanx F and transverse momentum respectively. The η to π0 cross section ratios are given for the three reactions. The ratio of π? p to π+ p cross sections for η production in the above kinematic ranges is 1.22±0.08±0.11.  相似文献

The study of liquid–liquid interfaces with X‐ray scattering methods requires special instrumental considerations. A dedicated liquid surface diffractometer employing a tilting double‐crystal monochromator in Bragg geometry has been designed. This diffractometer allows reflectivity and grazing‐incidence scattering measurements of an immobile mechanically completely decoupled liquid sample, providing high mechanical stability. The available energy range is from 6.4 to 29.4 keV, covering many important absorption edges. The instrument provides access in momentum space out to 2.54 Å?1 in the surface normal and out to 14.8 Å?1 in the in‐plane direction at 29.4 keV. Owing to its modular design the diffractometer is also suitable for heavy apparatus such as vacuum chambers. The instrument performance is described and examples of X‐ray reflectivity studies performed under in situ electrochemical control and on biochemical model systems are given.  相似文献

All‐optical modulation based on silicon quantum dot doped SiOx:Si‐QD waveguide is demonstrated. By shrinking the Si‐QD size from 4.3 nm to 1.7 nm in SiOx matrix (SiOx:Si‐QD) waveguide, the free‐carrier absorption (FCA) cross section of the Si‐QD is decreased to 8 × 10−18 cm2 by enlarging the electron/hole effective masses, which shortens the PL and Auger lifetime to 83 ns and 16.5 ps, respectively. The FCA loss is conversely increased from 0.03 cm−1 to 1.5 cm−1 with the Si‐QD size enlarged from 1.7 nm to 4.3 nm due to the enhanced FCA cross section and the increased free‐carrier density in large Si‐QDs. Both the FCA and free‐carrier relaxation processes of Si‐QDs are shortened as the radiative recombination rate is enlarged by electron–hole momentum overlapping under strong quantum confinement effect. The all‐optical return‐to‐zero on‐off keying (RZ‐OOK) modulation is performed by using the SiOx:Si‐QD waveguides, providing the transmission bit rate of the inversed RZ‐OOK data stream conversion from 0.2 to 2 Mbit/s by shrinking the Si‐QD size from 4.3 to 1.7 nm.  相似文献

A new small‐angle scattering technique in reflection geometry is described which enables a topological study of rough surfaces. This is achieved by using long‐wavelength soft X‐rays which are scattered at wide angles but in the low‐Q range normally associated with small‐angle scattering. The use of nanometre‐wavelength radiation restricts the penetration to a thin surface layer which follows the topology of the surface, while moving the scattered beam to wider angles preventing shadowing by the surface features. The technique is, however, only applicable to rough surfaces for which there is no specular reflection, so that only the scattered beam was detected by the detector. As an example, a study of the surfaces of rough layers of silicon produced by the deposition of nanoparticles by blade‐coating is presented. The surfaces of the blade‐coated layers have rough features of the order of several micrometers. Using 2 nm and 13 nm X‐rays scattered at angular ranges of 5°≤θ≤ 51° and 5°≤θ≤ 45°, respectively, a combined range of scattering vector of 0.00842 Å?1Q≤ 0.4883 Å?1 was obtained. Comparison with previous transmission SAXS and USAXS studies of the same materials indicates that the new method does probe the surface topology rather than the internal microstructure.  相似文献

A high-resolution (1.5 meV) inelastic neutron scattering experiment is carried out to investigate in detail the low momentum (0.6–1.5 Å?1) dynamic response in Zr50Be50 metallic glass. The results are obtained on the hot neutron three-axis spectrometer IN1 in the Laue-Langevin Institute (Grenoble, France). A comparison with recent neutron scattering results for the momentum transfer region above 1.4 Å?1 shows a minimum in the dispersion relation of low energy excitations near the prepeak of the static structure factor. These excitations appear to be due to the short-range order in this amorphous system.  相似文献

Inclusive charged pion production is studied in an exposure of BEBC, filled with hydrogen, to an incidentK + beam of 70 GeV/c. Total cross sections for pion production and inclusive longitudinal and transverse momentum distributions of π?'s and of positive particles are presented and compared with data at lower energies. Earlier evidence for scaling in the fragmentation regions is confirmed. The central region π? cross section increases proportionally top LAB ?1/4 ; positive particles show almost no energy dependence atx=0. Particle ratios π+? are studied as a function ofx andy * and a comparison with 70 GeV/cK ? p data is made. Analysis of structure functions for (ππ) pairs and of particle production associated with π± triggers at large |x| in the context of quark/parton models, provides qualitative evidence for the diquark-quark structure of the proton.  相似文献

The inclusive forward jet cross section in deep inelastic e+pe^+p scattering has been measured in the region of x-Bjorken, 4.5 ·10-44.5 \cdot 10^{-4} to 4.5 ·10-24.5 \cdot 10^{-2}. This measurement is motivated by the search for effects of BFKL-like parton shower evolution. The cross section at hadron level as a function of x is compared to cross sections predicted by various Monte Carlo models. An excess of forward jet production at small x is observed, which is not reproduced by models based on DGLAP parton shower evolution. The Colour Dipole model describes the data reasonably well. Predictions of perturbative QCD calculations at the parton level based on BFKL and DGLAP parton evolution are discussed in the context of this measurement.  相似文献

An apparatus is described for measuring the inelastic differential cross section for vibrational excitation in collisions of diatomic molecules with monoenergetic ions at laboratory energies between 10 and 50 eV. The method consists of measuring the time of flight of single ions with a time amplitude converter and displaying the results on a 100 channel pulse height analyzer. From the shift in the time of flight relative to that expected for elastic scattering the final state of the molecule excited in a single collision is identified. By studying only central collisions with almost zero impact parameter rotational excitation is strongly suppressed. Measured times of flight after collisions of monoenergetic Li+ ions with H2 show that with increasing energy the most probable vibrational quantum jump increases from 0→1 to 0→2,0→3 etc. Contrary to the usual assumption of a small steric factor for vibrational excitation the results show that the inelastic cross section is larger than the elastic cross section. Using reported potential parameters the energy dependence of the most probable excited state is compared with the calculations of Secrest and Johnson for a one-dimensional collinear collision. The satisfactory agreement suggests that the steric factor is close to 1. From measurements at different scattering angles at 10 eV the integral inelastic cross section is found to be about 0.2 Å2 corresponding to a differential cross section of 0.4 Å2/sr. Measured values of integral and differential total cross sections for Li+-He andLi+-H2 are reported and compared with theory. Direct dissociation of D2 by Li+ in the energy range from 25 to 55 eV was not observed, yielding an upper limit for the cross section of 4 · 10?4 Å2/sr.  相似文献

Using the facilities of the Darmstadt electron linear accelerator the cross section for the excitation of the 7.66 MeV level in Carbon-12 was measured for momentum transfers between 0.25 and 0.55 fm?1. Extrapolation of the measured cross sections for vanishing momentum transfer yields a partial width for the decay to the ground state through internal pair production of (7.3±1.3)·10?5 eV. The dependence of the reduced transition probability on momentum transfer is discussed and compared with theoretical predictions.  相似文献

We report new measurements of the neutron–deuteron elastic scattering cross section at energies from 135 to 250 MeV and center-of-mass angles from 80? to 130?. Cross sections for neutron-proton elastic scattering were also measured with the same experimental setup for normalization purposes. Our nd cross section results are compared with predictions based on Faddeev calculations including three-nucleon forces, and with cross sections measured with charged particle and neutron beams at comparable energies.  相似文献

Results are presented on the inclusive production of π± mesons and protons in \(\bar p\) p interactions at an incident antiproton momentum of 32 GeV/c in the MIRABELLE bubble chamber, based on a sample of 55,000 inelastic events. The spectra of π+?) andp( \(\bar p\) ) are separated in the whole kinematically admitted region of phase space by a statistical method. The semi-inclusive and inclusive cross sections and the main average characteristics of π andp production are calculated. The invariant differential cross sections are studied as functions of the Fevnman scaling variablex, the rapidity and the transverse momentum. Thex distribution of π± mesons in the proton fragmentation region does not show any significant contribution from quark exchange or annihilation processes. A possible contribution of hard quark scattering on mesons or baryons is observed for large transverse momenta.  相似文献

At photon energies below 100 keV, coherent scatter becomes important and because of its sharply forward peaked nature, it is the dominant interaction at small angles. Further, in the momentum transfer region above 0.5 Å?1, free atom form factors are sufficient to describe coherent scattering. The angular distribution of the coherent scattering carries detailed information about the object and can be used as a signature of the tissue type of the object. The aim of this work was to analyze the scattering properties of different human tissues according to histological classifications. The coherent scattering signatures of healthy and neoplastic breast, uterus and kidney tissues were measured using x‐ray synchrotron radiation at the XRD2 beamline at the Brazilian Synchrotron Light Laboratory (LNLS). Results are presented that were obtained by measuring a continuum in the inelastic scattering of 37-MeV deuterons on 12C, 48Ti, and 58,64Ni nuclei in the angular range 16° ≤ θ ≤ 61°. Broad excitation maxima are found for deuteron scattering angles in the range θ ≤ 21°. The region of a broad maximum includes giant resonances of target nuclei, whose levels are excited quite readily at E d = 37 MeV. Summation of the inelastic-scattering cross sections over all final states of the excited| nucleus and the use of completeness of the wave functions for these states make it possible to express the total cross section for inelastic (incoherent) deuteron scattering only in terms of the wave functions for the ground state of the target nucleus. The corresponding quasielastic-scattering amplitude is taken in the diffraction approximation. Nucleon correlations in the target nucleus are disregarded. Upon disregarding a small contribution of multiple quasielastic scattering at small scattering angles, the cross section for incoherent deuteron scattering is represented approximately as the product of known factors—the square of the absolute value of the amplitude for diffractive quasielastic scattering and the effective number of target nucleons scattering deuterons. The results of these calculations agree qualitatively with experimental data.  相似文献

In order to directly observe neutron scattering by heavy fermion quasiparticles at low temperatures, a CeRu2Si2 single crystal has been studied by the small-angle neutron scattering method. In the experiment, neutron scattering is observed at T = 0.85 K for momentum transfers q ≤ 0.04 Å?1, which is treated as the orbital component of magnetic scattering by heavy fermion quasiparticles. It has been found that the application of a magnetic field H = 1 T leads to both an increase in the observed scattering and its anisotropy with respect to the field direction. Moreover, measurements in the magnetic field reveal additional scattering for q > 0.04 Å?1, which is well described by a Lorentzian and is interpreted as neutron magnetic scattering by spin-density fluctuations with a correlation radius Rc ≈ 30 Å.  相似文献

Magnetized iron foils of a thickness of 500 Å were transmitted by 60 keV electrons. The spin polarization of the electron beam was investigated by Mott scattering after transmission. No polarization effect was found. Since the lowest detectable polarization degree wasP=0·003 the atomic polarization cross section must be assumed to be smaller than 0·8·10?20cm2. This cross section is the sum of the spin exchange cross section and the spin dependent part of the total scattering cross section. If the electron binding energy is neglected, the spin depentend part of the total scattering cross section can be calculated from the theory of Møller scattering. In the case of our conditions-60 keV and an aperture of 10?3 radian-the calculated cross section is smaller than the experimental upper limit. In further experiments the electron beam was split into the energy spectrum by an electrostatic analyzer placed between the iron foil and the Mott scattering foil. In these measurements only small parts of the energy spectrum were investigated, however, even here no detectable polarization occured.  相似文献

The experimental values of L x‐ray fluorescence (XRF) cross‐sections are not available for all the elements in the range La–U, at all the photon energies E in the range EL1 ≤ EEK. To generate L XRF cross‐sections, where experimental measurements are not available, two empirical relations have been developed, one between the L XRF cross‐sections and photon energy and the other between the L XRF cross‐sections and atomic number. For the measured data on L XRF cross‐sections at incident energies between Ll and K edges of an element and the data on L XRF cross‐sections for elements in the range 57 ≤ Z ≤ 92 at an energy value, polynomial fits have been derived. The L XRF cross‐section values generated with the derived empirical relations were found to be in agreement with the experimental values within their experimental uncertainties. Subsequently, a software code IGELCS was developed to interpolate and to generate the cross‐sections at inter‐energies and for inter‐elements in a single computer run. We have measured the cross section at 180° for K+p and K+n elastic scattering in the momentum range 1.0 to 1.5 GeV/c. The K+n cross section was measured on deuterium and the K+p on hydrogen and deuterium. We were thus able to measure directly the difference between free nucleon (proton) scattering and bound nucleon (proton) scattering at large angles. This difference was found to be small and within our experimental accuracy the K+p(n) cross section should be equal to the K+p (free) cross section at 180°. We found no evidence for an s-channel resonance Z1 in either the K+p or K+n system. A comparison of our data and those of other groups with theoretical predictions is given.  相似文献
