The results of a comparative experimental investigation of the short-term static and vibrational creep of a fabric-reinforced plastic in shear in the plane of the reinforcement are presented. The experimental procedure is described in detail. It is shown that on the investigated ranges of temperature, stress, and amplitude-frequency parameters the effect of an additional vibrational load on the creep process is unimportant.Institute of Polymer Mechanics, Academy of Sciences of the Latvian SSR, Riga. The determination of confidence intervals of deformations was studied for an individual measurement and arithmetical mean common for all points of an experimental family of curves. From the experimental data on the creep of polyamide resin and five different analytical equations of physically nonlinear creep, the problems of the computer approximation of families of creep curves and the determination of the material parameters are discussed. A procedure is described for testing samples for creep in a climatic chamber of the Feutron 3001 type. Results of an experimental study of forward and back creep of polyester resin PN-3 under simultaneous moistening of samples in an air medium with elevated humidity are discussed. The possibility of using the theory of random processes to predict the temperature and moisture creep of polymeric materials in the presence of randomly acting temperature and humidity factors is considered. A procedure for estimating the long-term deformation under such conditions is described with reference to the uniaxial creep of PN-3 polyester resin using time—temperature and time—moisture superposition. The possible correlation of the ambient temperature and humidity is taken into account. An experimental study of the effect of vibration on the creep process has been carried out in the case of the rigid porous polyurethane PPU-3, as a function of the magnitude of the vibrational loading and the level of basic static stresses. It has been shown that with increase in the velocity amplitude of the dynamic stresses, the creep process is accelerated, without being accompanied thereupon by vibrational heating of the material. A study was made of the creep and recovery of contact-molded glass-reinforced plastic in different directions in the plane of the sheet in uniaxial tension. On the basis of experimental data, the region of linearity of the deformation properties of the material under investigation was established. The influence functions in the relations of the theory of viscoelasticity were taken in the form proposed by Bronskii. The dependence of the parameters which determine these functions on direction was investigated. The results of an investigation of the creep of polymethyl methacrylate under alternating loading and recovery are presented. The experiments ended in the failure of the specimen. The creep data obtained are described on the basis of the nonlinear Boltzmann-Persoz theory and Bryzgalin's theory of hereditary recovery. Expressions for the creep strain obtained in accordance with the Leaderman-Rozovskii theory and in the form of a multiple-integral Volterra series are compared for different loading paths. Conclusions 1. The creep of thermoplastics in physiological salt solution is characterized by change in the rate of creep deformation relative to the creep in air. The bending creep deformations of HMWPE and phenylone and the compressive creep deformation of HMWPE are described by a binomial equation [Eq. (5)] and the compressive creep deformation of phenylone is described by Eq. (6).2. The lifetime of the thermoplastics studied under static compression and bending determined relative to limiting deformations is described by Eq. (7). Under the same stresses and limiting deformations, the lifetime of phenylone in physiological salt solution is greater than the lifetime of HMWPE.3. A procedure for determining regular discrete relaxation spectra from the viscoelastic functions is presented as a generalization of a previously proposed procedure for determining the conditional rheological characteristics in a piecewise-exponential approximation of the experimental creep, relaxation, and – curves.
