In this paper, we obtain an existence theorem for single-valued monotone operators in a reflexive Banach space. Using this result, we prove a fixed point theorem for nonexpansive mappings in a Hilbert space and an existence theorem for maximal monotone operators in a Banach space. We give a sufficient condition, weaker than the others known so far, that guarantees that the sum of two maximal monotone operators on a reflexive Banach space is maximal monotone. Then we give a weak constraint qualification assuring the Brézis–Haraux-type approximation of the range of the sum of the subdifferentials of two proper convex lower-semicontinuous functions in nonreflexive Banach spaces, extending and correcting an earlier result due to Riahi.  相似文献

The question whether or not the sum of two maximal monotone operators is maximal monotone under Rockafellar’s constraint qualification—that is, whether or not “the sum theorem” is true—is the most famous open problem in Monotone Operator Theory. In his 2008 monograph “From Hahn-Banach to Monotonicity”, Stephen Simons asked whether or not the sum theorem holds for the special case of a maximal monotone linear operator and a normal cone operator of a closed convex set provided that the interior of the set makes a nonempty intersection with the domain of the linear operator. In this note, we provide an affirmative answer to Simons’ question. In fact, we show that the sum theorem is true for a maximal monotone linear relation and a normal cone operator. The proof relies on Rockafellar’s formula for the Fenchel conjugate of the sum as well as some results featuring the Fitzpatrick function.   相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to introduce a class of maximal monotone operators on Banach spaces that contains all maximal monotone operators on reflexive spaces, all subdifferential operators of proper, lsc, convex functions, and, more generally, all maximal monotone operators that verify the simplest possible sum theorem. Dually strongly maximal monotone operators are also contained in this class. We shall prove that if T is an operator in this class, then (the norm closure of its domain) is convex, the interior of co(dom(T)) (the convex hull of the domain of T) is exactly the set of all points of at which T is locally bounded, and T is maximal monotone locally, as well as other results.  相似文献

In this paper, we modify Halpern and Mann’s iterations for finding a fixed point of a relatively nonexpansive mapping in a Banach space. Consequently, a strong convergence theorem for a nonspreading mapping is deduced. Using a concept of duality theorems, we also obtain analogue results for certain generalized nonexpansive and generalized nonexpansive type mappings. Finally, we discuss two strong convergence theorems concerning two types of resolvents of a maximal monotone operator in a Banach space.  相似文献

Motivated by a classical result concerning the ε-subdifferential of the sum of two proper, convex and lower semicontinuous functions, we give in this paper a similar result for the enlargement of the sum of two maximal monotone operators defined on a Banach space. This is done by establishing a necessary and sufficient condition for a bivariate inf-convolution formula.  相似文献

We use methods from convex analysis, relying on an ingenious function of Simon Fitzpatrick, to prove maximality of the sum of two maximal monotone operators on reflexive Banach space under weak transversality conditions.

We show that the lower limit of a sequence of maximal monotone operators on a reflexive Banach space is a representable monotone operator. As a consequence, we obtain that the variational sum of maximal monotone operators and the variational composition of a maximal monotone operator with a linear continuous operator are both representable monotone operators.  相似文献

In this note we provide regularity conditions of closedness type which guarantee some surjectivity results concerning the sum of two maximal monotone operators by using representative functions. The first regularity condition we give guarantees the surjectivity of the monotone operator S(· + p) + T(·), where p ɛ X and S and T are maximal monotone operators on the reflexive Banach space X. Then, this is used to obtain sufficient conditions for the surjectivity of S + T and for the situation when 0 belongs to the range of S + T. Several special cases are discussed, some of them delivering interesting byproducts.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the split common null point problem in two Banach spaces. Then, using the generalized resolvents of maximal monotone operators and the generalized projections, we prove a strong convergence theorem for finding a solution of the split common null point problem in two Banach spaces. It seems that such a theorem for generalized resolvents is the first of its kind outside Hilbert spaces.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this paper, we deal with three aspects of p-cyclically monotone operators. First, we introduce a notion of monotone polar adapted for p-cyclically monotone operators and study these kinds of operators with a unique maximal extension (called pre-maximal), and with a convex graph. We then deal with linear operators and provide characterizations of p-cyclical monotonicity and maximal p-cyclical monotonicity. Finally, we show that the Brézis-Browder theorem preserves p-cyclical monotonicity in reflexive Banach spaces.  相似文献

We combine methods from convex analysis, based on a function of Simon Fitzpatrick, with a fine recent idea due to Voisei, to prove maximality of the sum of two maximal monotone operators in Banach space under various natural domain and transversality conditions.

We consider an abstract first-order evolutionary inclusion in a reflexive Banach space. The inclusion contains the sum of L-pseudomonotone operator and a maximal monotone operator. We provide an existence theorem which is a generalization of former results known in the literature. Next, we apply our result to the case of nonlinear variational–hemivariational inequalities considered in the setting of an evolution triple of spaces. We specify the multivalued operators in the problem and obtain existence results for several classes of variational–hemivariational inequality problems. Finally, we illustrate our existence result and treat a class of quasilinear parabolic problems under nonmonotone and multivalued flux boundary conditions.  相似文献

In this paper, we study a strong convergence for monotone operators. We first introduce the hybrid type algorithm for monotone operators. Next, we obtain a strong convergence theorem (Theorem 3.3) for finding a zero point of an inverse-strongly monotone operator in a Banach space. Finally, we apply our convergence theorem to the problem of finding a minimizer of a convex function.  相似文献

In this article we study graph-distance convergence of monotone operators. First, we prove a property that has been an open problem up to now: the limit of a sequence of graph-distance convergent maximal monotone operators in a Hilbert space is a maximal monotone operator. Next, we show that a sequence of maximal monotone operators converging in the same sense in a reflexive Banach space is uniformly locally bounded around any point from the interior of the domain of the limit mapping. The result is an extension of a similar one from finite dimensions. As an application we give a simplified condition for the stability (under graph-distance convergence) of the sum of maximal monotone mappings in Hilbert spaces.

In this paper, we prove a strong convergence theorem for relatively nonexpansive mappings in a Banach space by using the hybrid method in mathematical programming. Using this result, we also discuss the problem of strong convergence concerning nonexpansive mappings in a Hilbert space and maximal monotone operators in a Banach space.  相似文献

The generalized parallel sum of two monotone operators via a linear continuous mapping is defined as the inverse of the sum of the inverse of one of the operators and with inverse of the composition of the second one with the linear continuous mapping. In this article, by assuming that the operators are maximal monotone of Gossez type (D), we provide sufficient conditions of both interiority- and closedness-type for guaranteeing that their generalized sum via a linear continuous mapping is maximal monotone of Gossez type (D), too. This result will follow as a particular instance of a more general one concerning the maximal monotonicity of Gossez type (D) of an extended parallel sum defined for the maximal monotone extensions of the two operators to the corresponding biduals.  相似文献

We consider whether the “inequality-splitting” property established in the Brøndsted–Rockafellar theorem for the subdifferential of a proper convex lower semicontinuous function on a Banach space has an analog for arbitrary maximal monotone multifunctions. We introduce the maximal monotone multifunctions of type (ED), for which an “inequality-splitting” property does hold. These multifunctions form a subclass of Gossez"s maximal monotone multifunctions of type (D); however, in every case where it has been proved that a multifunction is maximal monotone of type (D) then it is also of type (ED). Specifically, the following maximal monotone multifunctions are of type (ED): ? ultramaximal monotone multifunctions, which occur in the study of certain nonlinear elliptic functional equations; ? single-valued linear operators that are maximal monotone of type (D); ? subdifferentials of proper convex lower semicontinuous functions; ? “subdifferentials” of certain saddle-functions. We discuss the negative alignment set of a maximal monotone multifunction of type (ED) with respect to a point not in its graph – a mysterious continuous curve without end-points lying in the interior of the first quadrant of the plane. We deduce new inequality-splitting properties of subdifferentials, almost giving a substantial generalization of the original Brøndsted–Rockafellar theorem. We develop some mathematical infrastructure, some specific to multifunctions, some with possible applications to other areas of nonlinear analysis: ? the formula for the biconjugate of the pointwise maximum of a finite set of convex functions – in a situation where the “obvious” formula for the conjugate fails; ? a new topology on the bidual of a Banach space – in some respects, quite well behaved, but in other respects, quite pathological; ? an existence theorem for bounded linear functionals – unusual in that it does not assume the existence of any a priori bound; ? the 'big convexification" of a multifunction.
