The Hopf bifurcations of an airfoil flutter system with a cubic nonlinearity are investigated, with the flow speed as the bifurcation parameter. The center manifold theory and complex normal form method are Used to obtain the bifurcation equation. Interestingly, for a certain linear pitching stiffness the Hopf bifurcation is both supercritical and subcritical. It is found, mathematically, this is caused by the fact that one coefficient in the bifurcation equation does not contain the first power of the bifurcation parameter. The solutions of the bifurcation equation are validated by the equivalent linearization method and incremental harmonic balance method.  相似文献

The bifurcation and chaos phenomena of two-dimensional airfoils with multiple strong nonlinearities are investigated.First, the strongly nonlinear square and cubic plunging and pitching stiffness terms are considered in the airfoil motion equations, and the fourth-order Runge-Kutta simulation method is used to obtain the numerical solutions to the equations. Then,a post-processing program is developed to calculate the physical parameters such as the amplitude and the frequency based on the discrete numerical solutions. With these parameters, the transition of the airfoil motion from balance, period, and period-doubling bifurcations to chaos is emphatically analyzed. Finally, the critical points of the period-doubling bifurcations and chaos are predicted using the Feigenbaum constant and the first two bifurcation critical values. It is shown that the numerical simulation method with post-processing and the prediction procedure are capable of simulating and predicting the bifurcation and chaos of airfoils with multiple strong nonlinearities.  相似文献

In this paper, the Hopf bifurcations and limit cycle oscillations (LCOs) of an airfoil with cubic nonlinearity in supersonic\hypersonic flow are investigated. The harmonic balance method and multivariable Floquet theory are applied to analyze the LCOs of the airfoil. Four distinct cases of the LCOs response are detected in this system: (I) supercritical Hopf bifurcation, (II) a single subcritical Hopf bifurcation, (III) two subcritical Hopf bifurcations, and (IV) no Hopf bifurcation. Furthermore, the parameter variations domains separating the supercritical and subcritical Hopf bifurcations are presented using singularity theory.  相似文献

The weakly nonlinear resonant response of an orthogonal double pendulum to planar harmonic motions of the point of suspension is investigated. The two pendulums in the double pendulum are confined to two orthogonal planes. For nearly equal length of the two pendulums, the system exhibits 1:1 internal resonance. The method of averaging is used to derive a set of four first order autonomous differential equations in the amplitude and phase variables. Constant solutions of the amplitude and phase equations are studied as a function of physical parameters of interest using the local bifurcation theory. It is shown that, for excitation restricted in either plane, there may be as many as six pitchfork bifurcation points at which the nonplanar solutions bifurcate from the planar solutions. These nonplanar motions can become unstable by a saddle-node or a Hopf bifurcation, giving rise to a new branch of constant solutions or limit cycle solutions, respectively. The dynamics of the amplitude equations in parameter regions of the Hopf bifurcations is then explored using direct numerical integration. The results indicate a complicated amplitude dynamics including multiple limit cycle solutions, period-doubling route to chaos, and sudden disappearance of chaotic attractors.  相似文献

The incremental harmonic balance method was extended to analyze the flutter of systems with multiple structural strong nonlinearities. The strongly nonlinear cubic plunging and pitching stiffness terms were considered in the flutter equations of two-dimensional airfoil. First, the equations were transferred into matrix form, then the vibration process was divided into the persistent incremental processes of vibration moments. And the expression of their solutions could be obtained by using a certain amplitude as control parameter in the harmonic balance process, and then the bifurcation, limit cycle flutter phenomena and the number of harmonic terms were analyzed. Finally, numerical results calculated by the Runge-Kutta method were given to verify the results obtained by the proposed procedure. It has been shown that the incremental harmonic method is effective and precise in the analysis of strongly nonlinear flutter with multiple structural nonlinearities.  相似文献

The critical and post-critical behavior of a non-conservative non-linear structure, undergoing statical and dynamical bifurcations, is analyzed. The system consists of a purely flexible planar beam, equipped with a lumped visco-elastic device, loaded by a follower force. A unique integro-differential equation of motion in the transversal displacement, with relevant boundary conditions, is derived. Then, the linear stability diagram of the trivial rectilinear configuration is built-up in the parameter space. Particular emphasis is given to the role of the damping on the critical scenario. The occurrence of different mechanisms of instability is highlighted, namely, of divergence, Hopf, double zero, resonant and non-resonant double Hopf, and divergence-Hopf bifurcation. Attention is then focused on the two latter (codimension-two) bifurcations. A multiple scale analysis is carried-out directly on the continuous model, and the relevant non-linear bifurcation equations in the amplitudes of the two interactive modes are derived. The fixed-points of these equations are numerically evaluated as functions of two bifurcation parameters and some equilibrium paths illustrated. Finally, the bifurcation diagrams, illustrating the system behavior around the critical points of the parameter space, are obtained.  相似文献

We study a well-known regenerative machine tool vibration model (a delay differential equation) near a codimension 2 Hopf bifurcation point. The method of multiple scales is used directly, bypassing a center manifold reduction. We use a nonstandard choice of expansion parameter that helps understand practically relevant aspects of the dynamics for not-too-small amplitudes. Analytical expressions are then obtained for the double Hopf points. Both sub- and supercritical bifurcations are predicted to occur near the reference point; and analytical conditions on the parameter variations for each type of bifurcation to occur are obtained as well. Analytical approximations are supported by numerics.  相似文献

A general theory for the study of degenerate Hopf bifurcation in the presence of symmetry has been carried out only in situations where the normal form equations decouple into phase/amplitude equations. In this paper we prove a theorem showing that in general we expect such degeneracies to lead to secondary torus bifurcations. We then apply this theorem to the case of degenerate Hopf bifurcation with triangular (D3) symmetry, proving that in codimension two there exist regions of parameter space where two branches of asymptotically stable 2-tori coexist but where no stable periodic solutions are present. Although this study does not lead to a theory for degenerate Hopf bifurcations in the presence of symmetry, it does present examples that would have to be accounted for by any such general theory.  相似文献

A bifurcation analysis of a two-dimensional airfoil with a structural nonlinearity in the pitch direction and subject to incompressible flow is presented. The nonlinearity is an analytical third-order rational curve fitted to a structural freeplay. The aeroelastic equations-of-motion are reformulated into a system of eight first-order ordinary differential equations. An eigenvalue analysis of the linearized equations is used to give the linear flutter speed. The nonlinear equations of motion are either integrated numerically using a fourth-order Runge-Kutta method or analyzed using the AUTO software package. Fixed points of the system are found analytically and regions of limit cycle oscillations are detected for velocities well below the divergent flutter boundary. Bifurcation diagrams showing both stable and unstable periodic solutions are calculated, and the types of bifurcations are assessed by evaluating the Floquet multipliers. In cases where the structural preload is small, regions of chaotic motion are obtained, as demonstrated by bifurcation diagrams, power spectral densities, phase-plane plots and Poincaré sections of the airfoil motion; the existence of chaos is also confirmed via calculation of the Lyapunov exponents. The general behaviour of the system is explained by the effectiveness of the freeplay part of the nonlinearity in a complete cycle of oscillation. Results obtained using this reformulated set of equations and the analytical nonlinearity are in good agreement with previously obtained finite difference results for a freeplay nonlinearity.  相似文献

This paper considers the computation of the simplest parameterized normal forms (SPNF) of Hopf and generalized Hopf bifurcations. Although the notion of the simplest normal form has been studied for more than two decades, most of the efforts have been spent on the systems that do not involve perturbation parameters due to the restriction of the computational complexity. Very recently, two singularities – single zero and Hopf bifurcation – have been investigated, and the SPNFs for these two cases have been obtained. This paper extends a recently developed method for Hopf bifurcation to compute the SPNF of generalized Hopf bifurcations. The attention is focused on a codimension-2 generalized Hopf bifurcation. It is shown that the SPNF cannot be obtained by using only a near-identity transformation. Additional transformations such as time and parameter rescaling are further introduced. Moreover, an efficient recursive formula is presented for computing the SPNF. Examples are given to demonstrate the applicability of the new method.  相似文献

This paper studies interactions of pipe and fluid and deals with bifurcations of a cantilevered pipe conveying a steady fluid, clamped at one end and having a nozzle subjected to nonlinear constraints at the free end. Either the nozzle parameter or the flow velocity is taken as a variable parameter. The discrete equations of the system are obtained by the Ritz-Galerkin method. The static stability is studied by the Routh criteria. The method of averaging is employed to examine the analytical results and the chaotic motions. Three critical values are given. The first one makes the system lose the static stability by pitchfork bifurcation. The second one makes the system lose the dynamical stability by Hopf bifurcation. The third one makes the periodic motions of the system lose the stability by doubling-period bifurcation. Local and global bifurcations in the motion of a double pendulum subjected to a follower force have been studied when the follower force and the springs at the joints have structural asymmetries. The bifurcations of the system are examined in the neighborhood of double zero eigenvalues. Applying the center manifold and the normal form theorem to a four-dimensional governing equation, we finally obtain a two-dimensional equation with three unfolding parameters. The local bifurcation boundaries can be obtained for the criteria for the pitchfork and the Hopf bifurcation. The Melnikov theorem is used to find the global bifurcation boundaries for appearance of a homoclinic orbit and coalescence of two limit cycles. Numerical simulation was performed using the original four-dimensional equation to confirm the analytical prediction.  相似文献

The bifurcations and chaotic dynamics of parametrically and externally excited suspended cables are investigated in this paper. The equations of motion governing such systems contain quadratic and cubic nonlinearities, which may result in two-to-one and one-to-one internal resonances. The Galerkin procedure is introduced to simplify the governing equations of motion to ordinary differential equations with two-degree-of-freedom. The case of one-to-one internal resonance between the modes of suspended cables, primary resonant excitation, and principal parametric excitation of suspended cables is considered. Using the method of multiple scales, a parametrically and externally excited system is transformed to the averaged equations. A pseudo arclength scheme is used to trace the branches of the equilibrium solutions and an investigation of the eigenvalues of the Jacobian matrix is used to assess their stability. The equilibrium solutions experience pitchfork, saddle-node, and Hopf bifurcations. A detailed bifurcation analysis of the dynamic (periodic and chaotic) solutions of the averaged equations is presented. Five branches of dynamic solutions are found. Three of these branches that emerge from two Hopf bifurcations and the other two are isolated. The two Hopf bifurcation points, one is supercritical Hopf bifurcation point and another is primary Hopf bifurcation point. The limit cycles undergo symmetry-breaking, cyclic-fold, and period-doubling bifurcations, whereas the chaotic attractors undergo attractor-merging, boundary crises. Simultaneous occurrence of the limit cycle and chaotic attractors, homoclinic orbits, homoclinic explosions and hyperchaos are also observed.  相似文献

The dynamic behavior close to a non-resonant double Hopf bifurcation is analyzed via a frequency-domain technique. Approximate expressions of the periodic solutions are computed using the higher order harmonic balance method while their accuracy and stability have been evaluated through the calculation of the multipliers of the monodromy matrix. Furthermore, the detection of secondary Hopf or torus bifurcations (Neimark–Sacker bifurcation for maps) close to the analyzed singularity has been obtained for a coupled electrical oscillatory circuit. Then, quasi-periodic solutions are likely to exist in certain regions of the parameter space. Extending this analysis to the unfolding of the 1:1 resonant double Hopf bifurcation, cyclic fold and torus bifurcations have also been detected in a controlled oscillatory coupled electrical circuit. The comparison of the results obtained with the suggested technique, and with continuation software packages, has been included.  相似文献

An axially symmetric perturbed isotropic harmonic oscillator undergoes several bifurcations as the parameter adjusting the relative strength of the two terms in the cubic potential is varied. We show that three of these bifurcations are Hamiltonian Hopf bifurcations. To this end we analyse an appropriately chosen normal form. It turns out that the linear behaviour is not that of a typical Hamiltonian Hopf bifurcation as the eigen-values completely vanish at the bifurcation. However, the nonlinear structure is that of a Hamiltonian Hopf bifurcation. The result is obtained by formulating geometric criteria involving the normalized Hamiltonian and the reduced phase space.  相似文献

Forced, weakly nonlinear oscillations of a two degree-of-freedom autoparametric vibration absorber system are studied for resonant excitations. The method of averaging is used to obtain first-order approximations to the response of the system. A complete bifurcation analysis of the averaged equations is undertaken in the subharmonic case of internal and external resonance. The locked pendulum mode of response is found to bifurcate to coupled-mode motion for some excitation frequencies and forcing amplitudes. The coupled-mode response can undergo Hopf bifurcation to limit cycle motions, when the two linear modes are mistuned away from the exact internal resonance condition. The software packages AUTO and KAOS are used and a numerically assisted study of the Hopf bifurcation sets, and dynamic steady solutions of the amplitude or averaged equations is presented. It is shown that both super-and sub-critical Hopf bifurcations arise and the limit cycles quickly undergo period-doubling bifurcations to chaos. These imply chaotic amplitude modulated motions for the system.  相似文献

This paper presents a novel mechanical attachment, i.e., nonlinear energy sink (NES), for suppressing the limit cycle oscillation (LCO) of an airfoil. The dynamic responses of a two-degree-of-freedom (2-DOF) airfoil coupled with an NES are studied with the harmonic balance method. Different structure parameters of the NES, i.e., mass ratio between the NES and airfoil, NES offset, NES damping, and nonlinear stiffness in the NES, are chosen for studying the effect of the LCO suppression on an aeroelastic system with a supercritical Hopf bifurcation or subcritical Hopf bifurcation, respectively. The results show that the structural parameters of the NES have different influence on the supercritical Hopf bifurcation system and the subcritical Hopf bifurcation system.  相似文献

The effect of the nonlinear terms on bifurcation behaviors of limit cycles of a simplified railway wheelset model is investigated. At first, the stable equilibrium state loses its stability via a Hopf bifurcation. The bifurcation curve is divided into a supercritical branch and a subcritical one by a generalized Hopf point, which plays a key role in determining the occurrence of flange contact and derailment of high-speed railway vehicles, and the occurrence of this critical situation is an important decision-making criteria for design parameters. Secondly, bifurcations of limit cycles are discussed by comparing the bifurcation behavior of cycles for two different nonlinear parameters. Unlike local Hopf bifurcation analysis based on a single bifurcation parameter in most papers, global bifurcation analysis of limit cycles based on two bifurcation parameters is investigated, simultaneously. It is shown that changing nonlinear parameter terms can affect bifurcation types of cycles and division of parameter domains. In particular, near the branch points of cycles, two symmetrical limit cycles are created by a pitchfork bifurcation and then two symmetrical cycles both undergo a period-doubling bifurcation to form two stable period-two cycles. Around the resonant points, period orbits can make several turns, whose number of turns corresponds to the ratio of resonance. Thirdly, near the Neimark–Sacker bifurcation of cycles, a stable torus is created by a supercritical Neimark–Sacker bifurcation, which shows that the orbit of the model exhibits modulated oscillations with two frequencies near the limit cycle. These results demonstrate that nonlinear parameter terms can produce very complex global bifurcation phenomena and make obvious effects on possible hunting motions even though a simple railway wheelset model is concerned.
