The Cauchy Problem for Partial Difference Equations

We want to discuss partial difference equations, first of all with respect to the existence and uniqueness of their solution. These equations are considered with solutions on arbitrary subsets of the n-dimensional grid Zn. The basic theorem enables one to formulate the Cauchy problem for such equations. The solution is proven to be recursively computable for partial difference equations under very mild restrictions. (Variable coefficients for linear equations, systems of equations as well as nonlinear equations are not excluded.) The construction of solutions presented here also allows for some qualitative conclusions, such as boundedness of solutions.

Life-span of Classical Solutions to Nonlinear Wave Equations in Two-space-dimensions II

In two-space-dimensional case we get the sharp lower bound of the life-span of classical solutions to the Cauchy problem with small initial data for fully nonlinear wave equations of the form ◻u = F (u, Du, D_zDu) in which F(\hat{λ}) = O(|\hat{λ}|^{1+α}) with α = 2 in a neighbourhood of \hat{λ} = 0. The cases α = 1 and α ≥ 3 have been considered respectively in [1] and [2].     

Global Classical Solutions to Partially Dissipative Quasilinear Hyperbolic Systems

The author considers the Cauchy problem for quasilinear inhomogeneous hyperbolic systems. Under the assumption that the system is weakly dissipative, Hanouzet and Natalini established the global existence of smooth solutions for small initial data (in Arch. Rational Mech. Anal., Vol. 169, 2003, pp. 89–117). The aim of this paper is to give a completely different proof of this result with slightly different assumptions.

In this paper, we give a lower bound for the life-span of classical solutions to the Cauchy problem for first order nonlinear hyperbolic systems with small initial data, which is sharp, and give its application to the system of one-dimensional gas dynamics; for the Cauchy problem of the system of one-dimensional gas dynamics with a kind of small oscillatory initial data, we obtain a precise estimate for the life-span of classical solutions.

We consider the problem of analytic continuation of a solution to the system of Maxwell equations in a bounded spatial domain from data on part of the boundary of the domain. We construct an approximate solution to the problem using the Carleman matrix method.

We consider the Cauchy problem for a generalized Navier-Stokes equations with hyperdissipation, with the initial data in L^p_σ. We follow the theme of [1] but with more complicated analysis on the symbol and obtain the existence and uniqueness results.
