In this paper the distribution of the likelihood ratio test for testing the reality of the covariance matrix of a complex multivariate normal distribution is investigated. Some simplifications in the noncentral distribution are made and the noncentral distribution is derived for the special case where the rank of the noncentrality matrix is two. In the null case exact expressions for the distribution are given up to p = 6, and percentage points are tabulated. These percentage points were compared with percentage points derived from an asymptotic expansion of the distribution, and the accuracy of the approximation was found to be sufficient for several practical situations.  相似文献

We propose a formal test of separability of covariance models based on a likelihood ratio statistic. The test is developed in the context of multivariate repeated measures (for example, several variables measured at multiple times on many subjects), but can also apply to a replicated spatio-temporal process and to problems in meteorology, where horizontal and vertical covariances are often assumed to be separable. Separable models are a common way to model spatio-temporal covariances because of the computational benefits resulting from the joint space-time covariance being factored into the product of a covariance function that depends only on space and a covariance function that depends only on time. We show that when the null hypothesis of separability holds, the distribution of the test statistic does not depend on the type of separable model. Thus, it is possible to develop reference distributions of the test statistic under the null hypothesis. These distributions are used to evaluate the power of the test for certain nonseparable models. The test does not require second-order stationarity, isotropy, or specification of a covariance model. We apply the test to a multivariate repeated measures problem.  相似文献

This paper investigates the asymptotic properties of the likelihood ratio statistic for testing homogeneity in a bivariate normal mixture model with known covariance. The asymptotic null distributions of the likelihood ratio statistic and a modified likelihood ratio statistic are obtained in explicit form. The distributions are identical. The results of a small simulation study to approximate the null distribution are presented.  相似文献

Summary This paper deals with the likelihood ratio test for additional information in a multivariate linear model. It is shown that the power of the likelihood ratio test procedure has a monotonicity property. Asymptotic approximations for the power are also obtained.  相似文献

In this paper we show how, based on a decomposition of the likelihood ratio test for sphericity into two independent tests and a suitably developed decomposition of the characteristic function of the logarithm of the likelihood ratio test statistic to test independence in a set of variates, we may obtain extremely well-fitting near-exact distributions for both test statistics. Since both test statistics have the distribution of the product of independent Beta random variables, it is possible to obtain near-exact distributions for both statistics in the form of Generalized Near-Integer Gamma distributions or mixtures of these distributions. For the independence test statistic, numerical studies and comparisons with asymptotic distributions proposed by other authors show the extremely high accuracy of the near-exact distributions developed as approximations to the exact distribution. Concerning the sphericity test statistic, comparisons with formerly developed near-exact distributions show the advantages of these new near-exact distributions.  相似文献

Likelihood ratio tests for goodness-of-fit of a nonlinear regression model   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We propose likelihood and restricted likelihood ratio tests for goodness-of-fit of nonlinear regression. The first-order Taylor approximation around the MLE of the regression parameters is used to approximate the null hypothesis and the alternative is modeled nonparametrically using penalized splines. The exact finite sample distribution of the test statistics is obtained for the linear model approximation and can be easily simulated. We recommend using the restricted likelihood instead of the likelihood ratio test because restricted maximum-likelihood estimates are not as severely biased as the maximum-likelihood estimates in the penalized splines framework.  相似文献

The asymptotic behavior, for large sample size, is given for the distribution of the canonical correlation coefficients. The result is used to examine the Bartlett-Lawley test that the residual population canonical correlation coefficients are zero. A marginal likelihood function for the population coefficients is obtained and the maximum marginal likelihood estimates are shown to provide a bias correction.  相似文献

This paper studies the exact distributions of the MLEs of the regression coefficient matrices in a GMANOVA-MANOVA model with normal error. The unique conditions for linear functions of the MLEs of regression coefficient matrices are presented, and the exact density functions or characteristic functions for these linear functions are derived.  相似文献

It is shown that the likelihood ratio of an autoregressive time series of finite order with a regression trend is asymptotically normal. This result is used to derive the power of a test for positive correlation of the residuals under local autoregressive alternatives. The test is based on the Durbin-Watson statistics.  相似文献

This article analyzes whether some existing tests for the p×p covariance matrix Σ of the N independent identically distributed observation vectors work under non-normality. We focus on three hypotheses testing problems: (1) testing for sphericity, that is, the covariance matrix Σ is proportional to an identity matrix Ip; (2) the covariance matrix Σ is an identity matrix Ip; and (3) the covariance matrix is a diagonal matrix. It is shown that the tests proposed by Srivastava (2005) for the above three problems are robust under the non-normality assumption made in this article irrespective of whether Np or Np, but (N,p)→, and N/p may go to zero or infinity. Results are asymptotic and it may be noted that they may not hold for finite (N,p).  相似文献

This paper extends the results in Li and Loken [A unified theory of statistical analysis and inference for variance component models for dyadic data, Statist. Sinica 12 (2002) 519-535] on the statistical analysis of measurements taken on dyads to the situations in which more than one attribute are measured on each dyad. Starting from the covariance structure for the univariate case obtained in Li and Loken (2002), the covariance structure for the multivariate case is derived based on the group symmetry induced by the assumed exchangeability in the units. Our primary objective is to document the Gaussian likelihood and the sufficient statistics for multivariate dyadic data in closed form, so that they can be referenced by researchers as they analyze those data. The derivation carried out can also serve as an example of multivariate extension of univariate models based on exchangeability.  相似文献

Scalar polynomial statistics are found which have constant regression on the mean of a sample of Wishart matrices. The method used is to differentiate the characteristic function associated with the Wishart distribution, thus expressing the constant regression condition as a differential equation which is satisfied by the Wishart characteristic function. In this respect, use is made of the hyperbolic differential operator.  相似文献

The study of the noncentral matrix variate beta type distributions has been sidelined because the final expressions for the densities depend on an integral that has not been resolved in an explicit way. We derive an exact expression for the nonnull distribution of Wilks’ statistic and precise expressions for the densities of the ratio and product of two independent components of matrix variates where one matrix variate has the noncentral matrix variate beta type I distribution and the other has the matrix variate beta type I distribution. We provide the expressions for the densities of the determinant of the ratio and the product of these two components. These distributions play a fundamental role in various areas of statistics, for example in the criteria proposed by Wilks.  相似文献

Summary The joint density function of the latent roots ofS 1 S 2 −1 under violations is obtained whereS 1 has a complex non-central Wishart distributionW c (p,n 1,Σ 1,Ω) andS 2, an independent complex central Wishart,W c (p,n 2,Σ 2, 0). The density and moments of Hotelling's trace are also derived under violations. Further, the non-null distributions of the following four criteria in the two-roots case are studied for tests of three hypotheses: Hotelling's trace, Pillai's trace, Wilks' criterion and Roy's largest root. In addition, tabulations of powers are carried out and power comparisons for tests of each of three hypotheses based on the four criteria are made in the complex case extending such work of Pillai and Jayachandran in the classical Gaussian case. The findings in the complex Gaussian are generally similar to those in the classical.  相似文献

Likelihood ratio tests are derived for testing the structure of mean values in a two-way classification. The most general hypothesis considered is when the mean values are subject to row and column effects and interaction has a given complexity. The observations corresponding to a row or a column classification are assumed to have an unknown dispersion (variance covariance) matrix. Two types of dispersion matrices are considered, one with a general and another with a reducible structure. Some special cases are considered. The results of the paper provide generalizations of tests on dimensionality and interactions in a two-way array of mean values considered by Fisher, Anderson, Fujikoshi, Mandel, and Rao.  相似文献

This paper analyzes the problem of using the sample covariance matrix to detect the presence of clustering in p-variate data in the special case when the component covariance matrices are known up to a constant multiplier. For the case of testing one population against a mixture of two populations, tests are derived and shown to be optimal in a certain sense. Some of their distribution properties are derived exactly. Some remarks on the extensions of these tests to mixtures of kp populations are included. The paper is essentially a formal treatment (in a special case) of some well-known procedures. The methods used in deriving the distribution properties are applicable to a variety of other situations involving mixtures.  相似文献
