A simple unitary model for meson production effects in proton-nucleus scattering was used earlier to estimate the pionization corrections to the proton-deuteron total cross section. This model is here used to study the corresponding effects in heavy nuclei using a generalization of the optical limit. An increase in the total cross sections at the upper limit of NAL energies of roughly 20% is found.  相似文献

A new model differential cross section is proposed for describing elastic scattering of electrons in simulating the passage of electrons through a substance by the Monte Carlo method. This differential cross section correctly describes the first and second transport scattering cross sections, but is characterized by the total elastic scattering cross section much smaller than the actual value of the total elastic scattering cross section. The application of this differential cross section makes it possible to considerably reduce the number of elastic collisions in the Monte Carlo simulation of passage of electrons in a substance and to model the passage of high-energy electrons using the individual collision model.  相似文献

We review recent cross section results for low-energy positron scattering from atomic targets. A comparison of the latest measurements and calculations for positron collisions with the noble gases and a brief update of the newest studies on other atoms is presented. In particular, we provide an overview of the cross sections for elastic scattering, positronium formation, direct and total ionisation, as well as total scattering, at energies typically between about 0.1 and a few hundred eV. We discuss the differences in the current experimental data sets and compare those results to the available theoretical models. Recommended data sets for the total cross section are also reported for each noble gas. A summary of the recent developments in the scattering from other atoms, such as atomic hydrogen, the alkali and alkaline-earth metals, and two-electron systems is finally provided.  相似文献

从总散射截面、微分散射截面和分波散射截面三方面对He-N2体系的三个势能表面进行了详细比较。计算中采用了精确度较高的密耦(Close-Coupling)近似方法(E=64meV),计算结果与MKeil等的实验结果基本相符。研究结果表明:势能球平均零点能位置、势阱深度、排斥势的强度以及势能在势阱附近的方向性都对散射截面有较大的影响,为根据散射截面准确地确定He-N2体系的相互作用势能参数提供了一种新依据。  相似文献

The implications of a fractal model of medium structure for the angular dependence of the ultrasonic differential scattering cross section and for the frequency dependence of the total ultrasonic scattering cross section are explored. The results for the differential scattering cross section agree well with published experimental values for liver and those for the total scattering cross section are not inconsistent with the literature data.  相似文献

A new calculation for the total cross section of positron-sodium scattering is performed in an energy range down to a few tenths of one electron volt using the coupled-channel optical method. The ionization continuum and the positronium formation channels are included via an equivalent-local complex potential. The role played by the break-up and rearrangement processes in the low energy positron-sodium scattering is also investigated. The total scattering cross section is reported and compared with the available theoretical and experimental data.  相似文献

A multiple scattering theory is developed for the scattering of light atoms from a disordered adsorbate on a smooth surface. Using gas phase potentials for adatom potentials, excellent agreement is found with data for He scattering from adsorbed Xe and surprisingly good agreement with the extensive data for He scattering from adsorbed CO. The attractive adatom potential must be included in the calculation if quantitative comparison with experimental data is to be made. An important contribution to the total cross section of an adatom are quantum mechanical oscillations similar to glory oscillations in gas phase scattering. The dependence of the total cross section on the incident angle is strongly influenced by the varying number of adatoms seen by the probe.  相似文献

We initially propose a Reggeon-Pomeron exchange model to describe proton-proton elastic scattering at high energies in this short paper. A calculation for total cross section of proton-proton elastic scattering at high energies is performed without any free parameters. Our new finding from this work is that the Reggeon-Pomeron model gives a perfect fit to experimental data of the total cross section at the whole energy region where experimental data exist.  相似文献

This paper describes methods that have been developed for the accurate measurement of total and differential bulk acoustic scattering cross sections. Analysis is made of the sources of uncertainty entailed in measurements of this kind and a complete derivation is developed for the angular variation of the interrogated scattering volume. Experimentally determined values of differential scattering cross sections are reported for specimens of skeletal muscle, blood, liver, and secondary tumors arising in liver, obtained in the frequency range 4-7 MHz for scattering angles in the practically attainable range 60 degrees-150 degrees and also at 180 degrees (backscatter). A basis for extrapolating these results to other scattering angles can be derived from a combination of theoretical and experimental considerations, as presented in a companion paper [J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 79, 2048-2054 (1986)]. Based on such extrapolation, values for total scattering cross sections are estimated for the above tissues, the values are compared with determinations by different techniques as reported by other authors, and corresponding estimates are derived for the contribution of scattering processes to total attenuation in the tissues.  相似文献

The oscillatory screening and collision-induced quantum interference effects on electron-electron collisions are investigated in dense quantum plasmas. The modified Debye-Hückel potential with the total spin states of the system is considered to obtain the differential electron-electron scattering cross section in quantum plasmas. It is shown that the electron-electron scattering cross section decreases with an increase of the quantum wave number. In addition, the minimum position of the cross section has been appeared with increasing the collision energy at the scattering angle θL=π/4. It is also found that the oscillatory screening effects strongly suppress the cross section near θL=π/4. In addition, it is found that the quantum interference effects suppress the cross section, especially, for the forward and backward scattering cases.  相似文献

Experimental techniques for measuring electron-molecule collision cross sections are briefly summarized. A survey of the available experimental cross section data is presented. The emphasis here is on elastic scattering, rotational, vibrational and electronic excitations, total electron scattering, and momentum transfer in the few eV to few hundred eV impact energy range. The real part of the proton proton elastic scattering amplitude has been determined from its interference with the Coulomb amplitude at total centre-of-mass energies up to 62 GeV. A simple relationship between the total scattering cross section and the normalizing constant of the scattering matrix for the general case of an arbitrary scattering particle and elliptically polarized incident radiation is obtained. The polarized radiation is described by the Stokes parameters I, Q, U, V. The obtained relationship is a consequence of two forms of energy conservation. The first one is in terms of the total scattering cross section. The other one involves the normalizing constant of the scattering matrix. The obtained relationship contains dimensionless integrals of the radiation scattered over all directions of scattering. The integrals depend on the elements of the first row of the scattering matrix and on the relative values of the Stokes parameters of the incident radiation. In the case of cross section, the incident radiation is assumed to be a plane wave. In the case of normalization constant, the incident radiation is assumed to be a convergent beam. The possible dependence of the scattering integrals on specificities of the particle illumination is taken into account in the obtained relationship. The relationship may be helpful in the various cases. So, the relationship allows one to determine any of the two characteristics of the scattering process under investigation, cross section or normalizing constant, via the other one. The relationship can be used for obtaining the scattering integrals and for analyzing the influence of the incident radiation polarization on cross section and normalizing constant.  相似文献
