In this paper we investigate the bifurcations and the chaos of a piecewise linear discontinuous (PWLD) system based upon a rig-coupled SD oscillator, which can be smooth or discontinuous (SD) depending on the value of a system parameter, proposed in [18], showing the equilibrium bifurcations and the transitions between single, double and triple well dynamics for smooth regions. All solutions of the perturbed PWLD system, including equilibria, periodic orbits and homoclinic-like and heteroclinic-like orbits, are obtained and also the chaotic solutions are given analytically for this system. This allows us to employ the Melnikov method to detect the chaotic criterion analytically from the breaking of the homoclinic-like and heteroclinic-like orbits in the presence of viscous damping and an external harmonic driving force. The results presented here in this paper show the complicated dynamics for PWLD system of the subharmonic solutions, chaotic solutions and the coexistence of multiple solutions for the single well system, double well system and the triple well dynamics.  相似文献

Dynamical behavior of nonlinear oscillator under combined parametric and forcing excitation, which includes van der Pol damping, is very complex. In this paper, Melnikov'smethod is used to study the heteroclinic orbit bifurcations, subharmonic bifurcations and chaos in this system. Smale horseshoes and chaotic motions can occur from odd subharmonic bifurcation of infinite order in this system for various resonant cases. Finally the numerical computing method is used to study chaotic motions of this system. The results achieved reveal some new phenomena.  相似文献

In this paper, the complicated nonlinear dynamics of the harmonically forced quasi-zero-stiffness SD (smooth and discontinuous) oscillator is investigated via direct numerical simulations. This oscillator considered that the gravity is composed of a lumped mass connected with a vertical spring of positive stiffness and a pair of horizontally compressed springs providing negative stiffness, which can achieve the quasi-zero stiffness widely used in vibration isolation. The local and global bifurcation analyses are implemented to reveal the complex dynamic phenomena of this system. The double-parameter bifurcation diagrams are constructed to demonstrate the overall topological structures for the distribution of various responses in parameter spaces. Using the Floquet theory and parameter continuation method, the local bifurcation patterns of periodic solutions are obtained. Moreover, the global bifurcation mechanisms for the crises of chaos and metamorphoses of basin boundaries are examined by analysing the attractors and attraction basins, exploring the evolutions of invariant manifolds and constructing the basin cells. Meanwhile, additional nonlinear dynamic phenomena and characteristics closely related to the bifurcations are discussed including the resonant tongues, jump phenomena, amplitude–frequency responses, chaotic seas, transient chaos, chaotic saddles, and also their generation mechanisms are presented.  相似文献

Applying the higher-order averaging method, we study the periodically forced, standard Duffing oscillator. A package of the computer algebra system, Mathematica, recently developed by the author and a coworker, is improved and used to implement the tedious but necessary computations for application of higher-order averaging. We detect many types of subharmonic, superharmonic and ultra-subharmonic motions and their bifurcations. A theoretical exposition for a previous numerical observation of a superstructure of bifurcation sets is partly given. A numerical example is also presented and the theoretical predictions are compared with the corresponding simulation results.  相似文献

In this paper, the limit case of the SD (smooth and discontinuous) oscillator is studied. This system exhibits standard dynamics governed by the hyperbolic structure associated with the stationary state of the double-well. The substantial deviation from the standard dynamics is the non-smoothness of the velocity in crossing from one well to another, caused by the loss of local hyperbolicity due to the discontinuity. Without dissipation, the KAM structure on the Poincaré section is constructed with generic KAM curves and a series of fixed points associated with surrounded islands of quasi-periodic orbits and the chaotic connection orbits. It is found that, for a fixed set of parameters, a special chaotic orbit exits there which fills a finite region and connects a series of islands dominated by different chains of fixed points. As one adds weak dissipation, the periodic solutions in this finite region remain unchanged while the quasi-periodic solutions (isolated islands) are converted to the corresponding periodic solutions. The relevant dynamics for the system with weak dissipation under external excitation is shown having period doubling bifurcation leading to chaos, and multi-stable solutions.  相似文献

In this paper, the bifurcations of subharmonic orbits are investigated for six-dimensional non-autonomous nonlinear systems using the improved subharmonic Melnikov method. The unperturbed system is composed of three independent planar Hamiltonian systems such that the unperturbed system has a family of periodic orbits. The key problem at hand is the determination of the sufficient conditions on some of the periodic orbits for the unperturbed system to generate the subharmonic orbits after the periodic perturbations. Using the periodic transformations and the Poincaré map, an improved subharmonic Melnikov method is presented. Two theorems are obtained and can be used to analyze the subharmonic dynamic responses of six-dimensional non-autonomous nonlinear systems. The subharmonic Melnikov method is directly utilized to investigate the subharmonic orbits of the six-dimensional non-autonomous nonlinear system for a laminated composite piezoelectric rectangular plate. Using the subharmonic Melnikov method, the bifurcation function of the subharmonic orbit is obtained. Numerical simulations are used to verify the analytical predictions. The results of the numerical simulation also indicate the existence of the subharmonic orbits for the laminated composite piezoelectric rectangular plate.  相似文献

In this research, we offer eigenvalue analysis and path following continuation to describe the impact, stick, and non-stick between the particle and boundaries to understand the nonlinear dynamics of an extended Fermi oscillator. The principles of discontinuous dynamical systems will be utilized to explain the moving process in such an extended Fermi oscillator. The motion complexity and stick mechanism of such an oscillator are demonstrated using periodic and chaotic motions. The major parameters are the frequency, amplitude in periodic excitation force, and the gap between the top and bottom boundary. We employ path-following analysis to illustrate the bifurcations that lead to solution destabilization. We present the evolution of the period solutions of the extended Fermi oscillator as the parameter varies. From the viewpoint of eigenvalue analysis, the essence of period-doubling, saddle-node, and Torus bifurcation is revealed. Numerical continuation methods are used to do a complete one- and two-parameter bifurcation analysis of the extended Fermi oscillator. The presence of codimension-one bifurcations of limit cycles, such as saddle-node, period-doubling, and Torus bifurcations, is shown in this work. Bifurcations cause all solutions to lose stability, according to our findings. The acquired results provide a better understanding of the extended Fermi oscillator mechanism and demonstrate that we may control the system dynamics by modifying the parameters.

We perform a systematic analysis of a system consisting of a two-stage Colpitts oscillator. This well-known chaotic oscillator is a modification of the standard Colpitts oscillator obtained by adding an extra transistor and a capacitor to the basic circuit. The two-stage Colpitts oscillator exhibits better spectral characteristics compared to a classical single-stage Colpitts oscillator. This interesting feature is suitable for chaos-based secure communication applications. We derive a smooth mathematical model (i.e., sets of nonlinear ordinary differential equations) to describe the dynamics of the system. The stability of the equilibrium states is carried out and conditions for the occurrence of Hopf bifurcations are obtained. The numerical exploration reveals various bifurcation scenarios including period-doubling and interior crisis transitions to chaos. The connection between the system parameters and various dynamical regimes is established with particular emphasis on the role of both bias (i.e., power supply) and damping on the dynamics of the oscillator. Such an approach is particularly interesting as the results obtained are very useful for design engineers. The real physical implementation (i.e., use of electronic components) of the oscillator is considered to validate the theoretical analysis through several comparisons between experimental and numerical results.  相似文献

Bifurcations in impact oscillations   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Models of impact oscillators using an instantaneous impact law are by their very nature discontinuous. These discontinuities geve rise to bifurcations which cannot be classified using the usual tools of bifurcation analysis. However, we present numerical evidence which suggests that these discontinuous bifurcations are just the limits (in some sense) of standard bifurcations of smooth dynamical systems as the impact is hardened. Finally we show how one dimensional maps of the interval with essentially similar characteristics can exhibit the same kinds of bifurcational behaviour, and how these bifurcations are related to standard bifurcations.  相似文献

Semi-analytical and semi-numerical method is used to investigate the global bifurcations and chaos in the nonlinear system of a Van der Pol-Duffing-Mathieu oscillator. Semi-analytical and semi-numerical method means that the autonomous system, called Van der Pol-Duffing system, is analytically studied to draw all global bifurcations diagrams in parameter space. These diagrams are called basic bifurcation diagrams. Then fixing parameter in every space and taking parametrically excited amplitude as a bifurcation parameter, we can observe the evolution from a basic bifurcation diagram to chaotic pattern by numerical methods. We investigate the dynamics of a system consisting of a simple harmonic oscillator with small nonlinearity, small damping and small parametric forcing in the neighborhood of 2:1 resonance. We assume that the unforced system exhibits the birth of a stable limit cycle as the damping changes sign from positive to negative (a supercritical Hopf bifurcation). Using perturbation methods and numerical integration, we investigate the changes which occur in long-time behavior as the damping parameter is varied. We show that for large positive damping, the origin is stable, whereas for large negative damping a quasi-periodic behavior occurs. These two steady states are connected by a complicated series of bifurcations which occur as the damping is varied.  相似文献

In this paper, finite subharmonic bifurcations have been discussed by means of some examples. It is found that for centrally symmetric system, under small disturbance, if it has two independant sequences of subharmonic bifurcations, the system passes to chaos (horeseshoe) through finite subharmonic bifurcations, and that for noncentrally symmetric system, the relation between subharmonic bifurcations and horseshoe is complicated.  相似文献

The 1:2 subharmonic resonance of the labyrinth seals-rotor system is investigated, where the low-frequency vibration of steam turbines can be caused by the gas exciting force. The empirical parameters of gas exciting force of the Muszynska model are obtained by using the results of computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Based on the multiple scale method, the 1:2 subharmonic resonance response of the dynamic system is gained by truncating the system with three orders. The transition sets and the local bifurcations diagrams of the dynamics system are presented by employing the singular theory analysis. Meanwhile, the existence conditions of subharmonic resonance non-zero solutions of the dynamic system are obtained, which provides a new theoretical basis in recognizing and protecting the rotor from the subharmonic resonant failure in the turbine machinery.  相似文献

In this paper,we investigate the equilibrium stability of a Filippov-type system having multiple stick regions based upon a smooth and discontinuous(SD) oscillator with dry friction. The sets of equilibrium states of the system are analyzed together with Coulomb friction conditions in both( f_n,f_s) and(x,˙x) planes. In the stability analysis,Lyapunov functions are constructed to derive the instability for the equilibrium set of the hyperbolic type and La Salle's invariance principle is employed to obtain the stability of the nonhyperbolic type.Analysis demonstrates the existence of a thick stable manifold and the interior stability of the hyperbolic equilibrium set due to the attractive sliding mode of the Filippov property, and also shows that the unstable manifolds of the hyperbolic-type are that of the endpoints with their saddle property.Numerical calculations show a good agreement with the theoretical analysis and an excellent efficien y of the approach for equilibrium states in this particular Filippov system.Furthermore, the equilibrium bifurcations are presented to demonstrate the transition between the smooth and the discontinuous regimes.  相似文献

The global bifurcations and multi-pulse orbits of an aero-thermo-elastic functionally graded material (FGM) truncated conical shell under complex loads are investigated with the case of 1:2 internal resonance and primary parametric resonance. The method of multiple scales is utilized to obtain the averaged equations. Based on the averaged equations obtained, the normal form theory is employed to find the explicit expressions of normal form associated with a double zero and a pair of pure imaginary eigenvalues. The energy-phase method developed by Haller and Wiggins is used to analyze the multi-pulse homoclinic bifurcations and chaotic dynamics of the FGM truncated conical shell. The analytical results obtained here indicate that there exist the multi-pulse Shilnikov-type homoclinic orbits for the resonant case which may result in chaos in the system. Homoclinic trees which describe the repeated bifurcations of multi-pulse solutions are found. The diagrams show a gradual breakup of the homoclinic tree in the system as the dissipation factor is increased. Numerical simulations are presented to illustrate that for the FGM truncated conical shell, the multi-pulse Shilnikov-type chaotic motions can occur. The influence of the structural-damping, the aerodynamic-damping, and the in-plane and transverse excitations on the system dynamic behaviors is also discussed by numerical simulations. The results obtained here mean the existence of chaos in the sense of the Smale horseshoes for the FGM truncated conical shell.  相似文献

In this paper, the complicated nonlinear dynamics at the equilibria of SD oscillator, which exhibits both smooth and discontinuous dynamics depending on the value of a parameter α, are investigated. It is found that SD oscillator admits codimension-two bifurcation at the trivial equilibrium when α=1. The universal unfolding for the codimension-two bifurcation is also found to be equivalent to the damped SD oscillator with nonlinear viscous damping. Based on this equivalence between the universal unfolding and the damped system, the bifurcation diagram and the corresponding codimension-two bifurcation structures near the trivial equilibrium are obtained and presented for the damped SD oscillator as the perturbation parameters vary.  相似文献

The response of a single-machine quasi-infinite busbar system to the simultaneous occurrence of principal parametric resonance and subharmonic resonance of order one-half is investigated. By numerical simulations we show the existence of oscillatory solutions (limit cycles), period-doubling bifurcations, chaos, and unbounded motions (loss of synchronism). The method of multiple scales is used to derive a second-order analytical solution that predicts (a) the onset of period-doubling bifurcations, which is a precursor to chaos and unbounded motions (loss of synchronism), and (b) saddle-node bifurcations, which may be precursors to loss of synchronism.  相似文献

An asymmetric nonlinear oscillator representative of the finite forced dynamics of a structural system with initial curvature is used as a model system to show how the combined use of numerical and geometrical analysis allows deep insight into bifurcation phenomena and chaotic behaviour in the light of the system global dynamics.Numerical techniques are used to calculate fixed points of the response and bifurcation diagrams, to identify chaotic attractors, and to obtain basins of attraction of coexisting solutions. Geometrical analysis in control-phase portraits of the invariant manifolds of the direct and inverse saddles corresponding to unstable periodic motions is performed systematically in order to understand the global attractor structure and the attractor and basin bifurcations.  相似文献

The nonlinear dynamics of a hybrid Rayleigh–Van der Pol–Duffing oscillator includes pure and impure quadratic damping are investigated. The multiple timescales method is used to study exhaustively various resonances states. It is noticed that the system presents nine resonances states. The frequency response curves of quintic, third and second superharmonic, and subharmonic resonances states are obtained. Bistability, hysteresis, and jump phenomenon are also obtained. It is pointed out that these resonance phenomena are strongly related to the nonlinear cubic and quadratic damping and to the external force. The numerical simulations are used to make bifurcation sequences displayed by the model for each type of oscillatory. It is noticed that the pure quadratic, impure cubic damping, and external excitation affect regular and chaotic states.  相似文献
