The adsorptive removal of lead (II) from aqueous medium was carried out by chemically modified silica monolith particles. Porous silica monolith particles were prepared by the sol-gel method and their surface modification was carried out using trimethoxy silyl propyl urea (TSPU) to prepare inorganic–organic hybrid adsorbent. The resultant adsorbent was evaluated for the removal of lead (Pb) from aqueous medium. The effect of pH, adsorbent dose, metal ion concentration and adsorption time was determined. It was found that the optimum conditions for adsorption of lead (Pb) were pH 5, adsorbent dose of 0.4 g/L, Pb(II) ions concentration of 500 mg/L and adsorption time of 1 h. The adsorbent chemically modified SM was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), BET/BJH and thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA). The percent adsorption of Pb(II) onto chemically modified silica monolith particles was 98%. An isotherm study showed that the adsorption data of Pb(II) onto chemically modified SM was fully fitted with the Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm models. It was found from kinetic study that the adsorption of Pb(II) followed a pseudo second-order model. Moreover, thermodynamic study suggests that the adsorption of Pb(II) is spontaneous and exothermic. The adsorption capacity of chemically modified SM for Pb(II) ions was 792 mg/g which is quite high as compared to the traditional adsorbents. The adsorbent chemically modified SM was regenerated, used again three times for the adsorption of Pb(II) ions and it was found that the adsorption capacity of the regenerated adsorbent was only dropped by 7%. Due to high adsorption capacity chemically modified silica monolith particles could be used as an effective adsorbent for the removal of heavy metals from wastewater.  相似文献

Activated carbon fibers (ACFS) with surface area of 1388 m2/g prepared from paper by chemical activation with KOH has been utilized as the adsorbent for the removal of methy-lene blue from aqueous solution. The experimental data were analyzed by Langmuir and Freundlich models of adsorption. The effects of pH value on the adsorption capacity of ACFS were also investigated. The rates of adsorption were found to conform to the kinetic model of Pseudo-second-order equation with high values of the correlation coefficients (R>0.998). The Langmuir isotherm was found to fit the experimental data better than the Feundlich isotherm over the whole concentration range. Maximum adsorption capacity of 520 mg/g at equilibrium was achieved. It was found that pH played a major role in the adsorption process, higher pH value favored the adsorption of MB.  相似文献

Abstract

Agro-waste materials have carboxylic and phenolic groups that play the main role in metal adsorption. The advantages of these materials include easy availability, low cost, and reasonable metal removal capacity. One of the materials (usually considered as waste) is pea waste (pods). Present work comprises adsorption of chromium from aqueous solution using powder of pods of garden peas (Pisum sativum) in batch. Important parameters like adsorbent dose, pH, contact time, and agitation speed were studied. Adsorption equilibrium was explained by Langmuir, Freundlich, and Temkin isotherms. Maximum chromium uptake (q m) was 3.56 mg/g of adsorbent. Heat of adsorption, as evaluated by Temkin isotherm was 1.96 kJ/mol. It is proposed that pea pods can be an effective and environmentally benign (green) adsorbents for removal of chromium from industrial effluents and waste waters.  相似文献

Adsorption of Cr(VI) using activated neem leaves: kinetic studies   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In the present study, adsorbent is prepared from neem leaves and used for Cr(VI) removal from aqueous solutions. Neem leaves are activated by giving heat treatment and with the use of concentrated hydrochloric acid (36.5 wt%). The activated neem leaves are further treated with 100 mmol of copper solution. Batch adsorption studies demonstrate that the adsorbent prepared from neem leaves has a significant capacity for adsorption of Cr(VI) from aqueous solution. The parameters investigated in this study include pH, contact time, initial Cr(VI) concentration and adsorbent dosage. The adsorption of Cr(VI) is found to be maximum (99%) at low values of pH in the range of 1-3. A small amount of the neem leaves adsorbent (10 g/l) could remove as much as 99% of Cr(VI) from a solution of initial concentration 50 mg/l. The adsorption process of Cr(VI) is tested with Langmuir isotherm model. Application of the Langmuir isotherm to the system yielded maximum adsorption capacity of 62.97 mg/g. The dimensionless equilibrium parameter, R L, signifies a favorable adsorption of Cr(VI) on neem leaves adsorbent and is found to be between 0.0155 and 0.888 (0<R L<1). The adsorption process follows second order kinetics and the corresponding rate constant is found to be 0.00137 g/(mg) (min).  相似文献

In the present study, Pb(II) removal efficiency of Strychnos potatorum seed powder (SPSP) from aqueous solution has been investigated. Batch mode adsorption experiments have been conducted by varying pH, contact time, adsorbent dose and Pb(II) concentration. Pb(II) removal was pH dependent and found to be maximum at pH 5.0. The maximum removal of Pb(II) was achieved within 360 min. The Lagergren first-order model was less applicable than pseudo-second-order reaction model. The equilibrium adsorption data was fitted to Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherm models to evaluate the model parameters. Both models represented the experimental data satisfactorily. The monolayer adsorption capacities of SPSP as obtained from Langmuir isotherm was found to be 16.420 mg/g. The FTIR study revealed the presence of various functional groups which are responsible for the adsorption process.  相似文献

Adsorption of fluoride from aqueous solution by graphene   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
A batch adsorption system was applied to investigate the adsorption of fluoride from aqueous solution by graphene. The adsorption capacities and rates of fluoride onto graphene at different initial pH, contact time, and temperature were evaluated. The experimental results showed that graphene is an excellent fluoride adsorbent with an adsorption capacity of up to 17.65 mg/g at initial fluoride concentration of 25 mg/L and temperature of 298 K. The isotherm analysis indicated that the adsorption data can be well described by Langmuir isotherm model. Thermodynamic studies revealed that the adsorption reaction was a spontaneous and endothermic process.  相似文献

The present work deals with uranium removal from a nitric acid raffinate (waste) solution using prepared solvent (tri-butyl phosphate, TBP) immobilizing PVC cement (SIC) as a suitable adsorbent. The studied relevant factors affecting uranium adsorption onto SIC adsorbent involved; contact time, solution molarity, initial uranium concentration and temperature. The obtained adsorption isotherm of uranium onto the SIC adsorbent was fitted to Langmuir, Freundlich and Dubinin–Radushkviech (D–R) adsorption models. The results showed that the obtained equilibrium data fitted well the Langmuir isotherm. Additionally, it was found that the adsorption process obeys the pseudo second-order kinetic model. On the other hand, the calculated theoretical capacity of our prepared SIC adsorbent reached about 17 g U/kg SIC. Uranium adsorption from the studied raffinate solution was carried out applying the attained optimum conditions. The obtained data showed that 58.4 mg U/5 g SIC were adsorbed. However, using of 2 M HNO3 solution as an eluent, 93 (54.3 mg U) from the adsorbed amount were eluted.  相似文献

Chitosan-iron nanowires in porous anodic alumina (PAA) have been successfully prepared under ambient conditions as an adsorbent. The adsorbent was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and N2-BET surface area. The results showed that PAA can disperse and protect Fe0 nanorods from oxidation. The adsorption characteristics of trace Cr(VI) onto adsorbent have been examined at different initial Cr(VI) concentrations with pH 5. Batch adsorption studies show that the removal percentage of adsorbent for the removal of trace Cr(VI) is strongly dependent on the initial Cr(VI) concentrations. Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models were used to analyze the experiment data. The adsorption of trace Cr(VI) by adsorbent is well modeled by the Langmuir isotherm and the maximum adsorption capacity of Cr(VI) is calculated as 123.95 mg/g which is very closed to the experiment results. Intraparticle diffusion study shows that the intraparticle diffusion of adsorbent is not the sole rate-controlling step. The negative value of Gibbs free energy change, ΔGo, indicated that the process of Cr(VI) onto adsorbent was spontaneous. This work has demonstrated that chitosan-iron nanowires in porous anodic alumina as an adsorbent has promising potential for heavy metal removal at trace level.  相似文献

In this study, the adsorption of an industrial dye Supranol Yellow 4GL onto Cetyltrimethylammonium-bentonite (CTAB-bentonite) is investigated. The organobentonite is synthesised by exchanging cetyltrimethylammonium cations (CTAB) with inorganic ions on the surface of bentonite. The adsorption of Supranol Yellow 4GL onto organobentonite is found to be maximum when the concentration of CTAB exchanged is 100% according to the cation exchange capacity of the clay (CEC). The modification of organobentonite is examined using XRD and FTIR techniques. The effect of the process parameters such as: contact time, adsorbate concentration, adsorbent dose, pH and temperature are reported. Nearly 1200 seconds of contact time are found to be sufficient for the adsorption to reach equilibrium. The pseudo second order model is used to describe the kinetic data, and the rate constant is therefore evaluated. The dye adsorption to organobentonite is characterized by monolayer isotherm and caused by adsorption with relatively strong uptake. The Langmuir and Freundlich models adsorption are applied to describe the isotherm equilibrium and to determine its constants. The Langmuir and Freundlich models agree well with the experimental data with a adsorption capacity of 0.5 g of dye per g of organobentonite. A better fixation was obtained at acidic pH. The effect of temperature on the adsorption of dye has been also studied and the thermodynamic parameters ΔH, ΔS, ΔG, were determined. Organobentonite is found to be effective for removing Supranol Yellow 4GL dye from wastewater.  相似文献

The adsorption of a reactive dye, Reactive Yellow 84, from aqueous solution onto synthesized hydroxyapatite was investigated. The experiments were carried out to investigate the factors that influence the dye uptake by the adsorbent, such as the contact time under agitation, absorbent dosage, initial dye concentration, temperature and pH of dye solution. The experimental results show that the amount of dye adsorbed increases with an increase in the amount of hydroxyapatite. The maximum adsorption occurred at the pH value of 5. The equilibrium uptake was increased with an increase in the initial dye concentration in solution. The experimental isotherm data were analyzed using Langmuir isotherm equation. The maximum monolayer adsorption capacity was 50.25 mg/g. The adsorption has a low temperature dependency and was endothermic in nature with an enthalpy of adsorption of 2.17 kJ mol−1.  相似文献

The sorption behaviour of Pb(II) ions onto activated carbon prepared from Citrus limettioides peel (CLPC) and seed (CLSC), which is a novel waste material, was evaluated as a function of contact time, pH, adsorbent dose, ionic strength, initial metal ion concentration and temperature in batch adsorption processes with raw Citrus limettioides peel (CLP) and seed (CLS). The maximum uptake of lead(II) ions was obtained at pH range 4.0–6.0 for CLPC, CLSC and 5.0–6.0 for raw materials (CLP, CLS). The optimal contact time was found to be 3 h. Surface morphology and functionality of the adsorbent were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis and Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. The equilibrium data fit well with the Langmuir isotherm, confirming monolayer coverage of lead(II) ions onto CLP, CLPC, CLS and CLSC. The Langmuir monolayer adsorption capacity of CLP, CLPC, CLS and CLSC was found to be 123.60, 166.67, 15.32 and 142.86 mg/g. The calculated thermodynamic parameters showed that the sorption process was feasible, spontaneous and exothermic in nature. Kinetic studies demonstrated that adsorption of lead(II) ions followed a pseudo-second-order equation, suggesting that the adsorption process is presumably chemisorption. The adsorbents were tested for removal of Pb(II) from electroplating wastewater in connection with the reuse and selectivity of the adsorbents.  相似文献

A study on the adsorption of sulfamethazine sodium (SMS) from aqueous solution onto the activated carbon (AC)-based Salix psammophila (SP) by phosphoric acid activation was conducted. The central composite design under response surface methodology was employed for the removal of SMS and the process parameters were optimized. Influence of adsorbent dose, initial concentration of SMS, contact time and solution pH on the adsorption capacity of AC was investigated. The optimum adsorption conditions were obtained using adsorbent dosage of 0.54?g/L, initial concentration of 322?mg/L, contact time of 8?hours, pH value of 4.04. Kinetic studies showed the adsorption followed a pseudo-second-order model and Elovich model. The experimental equilibrium data were fitted Koble-Corrigan model and Freundlich model well and the maximum monolayer adsorption capacity of AC calculated by Langmuir model was 338.58?mg/g at 25?°C. In addition, AC was characterized by the SEM–EDS, BET, FITR and point of zero charge (pHpzc). The mechanisms of SMS sorption onto AC were explored. Desorption and regeneration tests were carried out to evaluate the feasibility of reusing the AC. This study indicated the AC prepared from SP was an excellent adsorbent with the low cost and high performance.  相似文献

For the adsorption of Paraquat dichloride (1,1′-dimethyl-4,4′-bipyridyl dichloride) from synthetic aqueous solutions, batch experiments were carried out to study the kinetics of Paraquat dichloride onto calcium oxide activated date (Phoenix dactylifera) stone carbon powder (particle size dia. about 0.85 mm). Studies were conducted at various initial concentrations of 75 mg/L, 100 mg/L, and 125 mg/L of Paraquat dichloride with 8.0 g/L of adsorbent dose. The equilibrium time was found to be 140 minutes. Maximum removal was observed at pH 9.0. The regression analysis for the experimental data showed that the removal kinetic profiles followed a pseudo-second order kinetic models for all initial concentrations, pH, temperature, and salinity of sorbate. The experimental data were analyzed using Langmuir, Freundlich, and Dubinin-Radushkevich (D-R) isotherm models. Thermodynamic parameters, such as standard change in Gibbs free energy, standard change in enthalpy, and standard change in entropy, were evaluated, indicating that the overall adsorption process was exothermic and spontaneous in nature.  相似文献

This study evaluates the adsorption of diazinon from aqueous solutions onto coconut shell-modified biochar using a batch system. The amount of dosage and initial pH are the main parameters being studied to obtain maximum adsorption capacity of the probe molecules. The carbonized coconut shell biochar (BC1), activated coconut shell biochar (BC2), chemically modified phosphoric acid (BC3) and sodium hydroxide coconut shell biochar (BC4) were prepared and tested as variables in the adsorption experiment. The characteristic of biochar via SEM, EDX and BET analysis revealed the large porous of surface morphology and slight changes in the composition with high surface area (405.97 – 508.07 m2/g) by following the sequence of BC3 > BC2 > BC4. Diazinon removal percentage as high as 98.96% was achieved at pH 7 with BC3 as adsorbent dosing at 5.0 g/L. The high coefficient of determination, R2 with a small value of ERRSQ and χ2 error analysis present the BC1 (0.9971) and BC2 (0.9999) are best fitted with Freundlich isotherm indicates multilayer sorption onto heterogeneous surface whereby the Langmuir isotherm model is the best fitting is described of monolayer adsorption process onto the homogenous surface of BC3 and BC4. The results indicated the maximum adsorption capacity (qm) was achieved by BC3 with 10.33 mg/g, followed by BC2 (9.65 mg/g) in accordance to the Langmuir isotherm while Freundlich isotherm showed the highest adsorption capacity (kF) with 1.73 mg/g (L/mg)1/n followed by BC4 with 0.63 mg/g (L/mg)1/n at favorable adsorption isotherm (1 ≤ n ≤ 10). Thus, the results obtained depicted that BC2 and BC3 are highly efficient adsorbents and both exhibit great potential in removing diazinon from aqueous solutions.  相似文献

Textile and dyeing industries are considered as one of the main water utilizing industries and generate a huge amount of colored liquid effluents in their finishing and dyeing processes. In this paper, agricultural waste corncob has been chosen as a renewable source to produce activated carbon at 400 °C (corncob activated carbon, CCAC) for the removal of Procion Red MX‐5B (PR) and crystal violet (CV) from dye‐polluted effluent using a batch technique. The efficiency of CCAC in adsorbing CV and PR from the water has been carried out as a function of pH, adsorbent dose, contact time, agitation, and initial concentration. The Temkin, Langmuir, and Freundlich isotherm model equations were investigated to understand the adsorption mechanism of dye molecules. The Langmuir isotherm R2 obtained was 0.9958 for CV and 0.9733 for PR. Maximum adsorption capacity obtained was 2.498 mg/g for CV and 2.86 mg/g for PR. Moreover, a pseudo‐second‐order kinetic equation with R2 value of 0.9999 was found in this adsorption process. To identify the chemical and morphological characteristics and surface functional groups, nanocomposite of CCAC was characterized using field emission scanning electron microscopy and Fourier‐transform infrared spectrophotometry. The obtained results indicate that the prepared CCAC can be used as a promising low‐cost dye (CV and PR) removing adsorbent from aqueous solutions.  相似文献

Almond shell agricultural biomass was used to prepare high surface area activated carbon using potassium hydroxide as activating agent. The activated carbon (AC) was characterized using X-Ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-Ray diffraction, Thermogravimetric and differential thermal analyses, Scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared, Brunauer–Emmett–Teller surface area and Raman spectroscopy. The AC was found to have a high surface area of 2054 m2 g?1. The influence of various key parameters was evaluated on the adsorption process including contact time, adsorbent dose and solution pH. Isotherm data were modeled using Langmuir and Freundlich models. Langmuir isotherm model presented the best fit to experimental data suggesting homogeneous distribution of adsorption sites. The adsorbent demonstrated high monolayer adsorption capacity of 833.33 and 625.0 mg/g for Methylene Blue and Crystal Violet, respectively. The efficiency of the adsorption process was linked to the micro-mesoporous structure and to the availability of the surface adsorption sites. Response surface methodology was used to optimize the removal efficiency from aqueous solution.  相似文献

An indigenously prepared zinc chloride activated Ipomoea carnea (morning glory), a low-cost and abundant adsorbent, was used for removal of Cu(II) ions from aqueous solutions in a batch adsorption system. The chemical activating agent ZnCl2 was dissolved in deionised water and then added to the adsorbent in two different ratios 1:1 and 1:0.5 adsorbent to activating agent ratio by weight. Studies were conducted as a function of contact time, initial metal concentration, dose of adsorbent, and pH. Activated Ipomoea carnea (AIC) were characterised using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), iodine number and methylene blue number. High iodine numbers indicates development of micro pores with zinc chloride activation. Maximum adsorption was noted within pH range 6.0(±0.05). Adsorption process is fast initially and reaches equilibrium after about 4 hours. The kinetic data were analysed using pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order models. The pseudo-second-order kinetic model was found to agree well with the experimental data. Adsorption equilibrium data were analyzed using Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. The Langmuir model represented the sorption process better than the Freundlich model. Based on the Langmuir isotherm, the monolayer adsorption capacity of Cu(II) ions was 7.855 mg?g?1 for AIC (1:1) and 6.934 mg?g?1 for AIC (1:0.5).  相似文献
