We consider some initial-boundary value problems for the linear and nonlinear heat equation where the gradient of the solution is prescribed on the boundary. Assuming that a solution exists, we obtain bounds for the solution and its gradient by maximum principle arguments or by means of differential and integral inequalities.  相似文献

Magnetic fields in conducting liquids (in particular, magnetic fields of galaxies, stars, and planets) are described by the magnetic induction operator. In this paper, we study the spectrum and eigenfunctions of this operator on a compact two-dimensional surface of revolution. For large magnetic Reynolds numbers, the asymptotics of the spectrum is studied; equations defining the eigenvalues (quantization conditions) are obtained; and examples of spectral graphs near which these points are located are given. The spatial structure of the eigenfunctions is studied.  相似文献

The asymptotic behavior of solutions to spectral problems for the Laplace operator in a domain with a rapidly oscillating boundary is analyzed. The leading terms of the asymptotic expansions for eigenelements are constructed, and the asymptotics are substantiated for simple eigenvalues. We consider the radial wave equation in similarity coordinates within the semigroup formalism. It is known that the generator of the semigroup exhibits a continuum of eigenvalues and embedded in this continuum there exists a discrete set of eigenvalues with analytic eigenfunctions. Our results show that, for sufficiently regular data, the long-time behaviour of the solution is governed by the analytic eigenfunctions. The same techniques are applied to the linear stability problem for the fundamental self-similar solution χ T of the wave equation with a focusing power nonlinearity. Analogous to the free wave equation, we show that the long-time behaviour (in similarity coordinates) of linear perturbations around χ T is governed by analytic mode solutions. In particular, this yields a rigorous proof for the linear stability of χ T with the sharp decay rate for the perturbations.   相似文献

We consider the problem of the splitting of lower eigenvalues of the two-dimensional Schrödinger operator with a double-well-type potential in the presence of a homogeneous magnetic field. The main result is the observation that the partial Fourier transformation takes the operator under study to a Schrödingertype operator with a (new) double-well-type potential but already without any magnetic field. We use this observation to investigate the influence of the magnetic field on the tunneling effects. We discuss two methods for calculating the splitting of lower eigenvalues: based on the instanton and based on the so-called libration. We use the obtained result to study the tunneling of wave packets in parallel quantum nanowires in a constant magnetic field.  相似文献

We survey a new approach that the author and his co-workers have developed to formulate stochastic control problems (predominantly queueing systems) asmathematical programming problems. The central idea is to characterize the region of achievable performance in a stochastic control problem, i.e., find linear or nonlinear constraints on the performance vectors that all policies satisfy. We present linear and nonlinear relaxations of the performance space for the following problems: Indexable systems (multiclass single station queues and multiarmed bandit problems), restless bandit problems, polling systems, multiclass queueing and loss networks. These relaxations lead to bounds on the performance of an optimal policy. Using information from the relaxations we construct heuristic nearly optimal policies. The theme in the paper is the thesis that better formulations lead to deeper understanding and better solution methods. Overall the proposed approach for stochastic control problems parallels efforts of the mathematical programming community in the last twenty years to develop sharper formulations (polyhedral combinatorics and more recently nonlinear relaxations) and leads to new insights ranging from a complete characterization and new algorithms for indexable systems to tight lower bounds and nearly optimal algorithms for restless bandit problems, polling systems, multiclass queueing and loss networks.  相似文献

We establish quantum dynamical lower bounds for a number of discrete one-dimensional Schrödinger operators. These dynamical bounds are derived from power-law upper bounds on the norms of transfer matrices. We develop further the approach from part I and study many examples. Particular focus is put on models with finitely or at most countably many exceptional energies for which one can prove power-law bounds on transfer matrices. The models discussed in this paper include substitution models, Sturmian models, a hierarchical model, the prime model, and a class of moderately sparse potentials.  相似文献

We develop a duality theory for problems of minimization of a convex functional on a convex set and apply this theory to optimal control problems with non-differentiable functional and state as well as control constraints. The dual problem is sometimes found to be simpler than the primal problem. The equivalence of the primal and the dual problem is established for problems in which the functional is strongly convex. The minimum cardinality of a p-dominating set a of G is the p-domination number γp(G) and the maximum cardinality of a p-dependent set of G is the p-dependence number βp(G). For every positive integer p?2, we show that for a bipartite graph G, γp(G) is bounded above by (|V|+|Yp|)/2, where Yp is the set of vertices of G of degree at most p-1, and for every tree T, γp(T) is bounded below by βp-1(T). We prove the existence of an analogue of the Jost-Lehmann-Dyson representation in noncommutative quantum field theory for the case where the noncommutativity affects only the spatial variables. Using this representation, we show that there is a certain class of elastic scattering amplitudes that have an analytic continuation to the complex cos plane with the Martin ellipse as the related analyticity domain. Quantum systems of particles interacting via an effective electromagnetic potential with zero electrostatic component are considered (magnetic interaction). It is assumed that the j th component of the effective potential for n particles equals the partial derivative with respect to the coordinate of the jth particle of “magnetic potential energy” of n particles almost everywhere. The reduced density matrices for small values of the activity are computed in the thermodynamic limit for d-dimensional systems with short-range pair magnetic potentials and for one-dimensional systems with long-range pair magnetic interaction, which is an analog of the interaction of three-dimensional Chern-Simons electrodynamics (“magnetic potential energy” coincides with the one-dimensional Coulomb (electrostatic) potential energy).
