We discuss stochastic Schrödinger operators and Jacobi matrices with wave functions, taking values in l so there are 2l Lyaponov exponents 1...l0 l+1...2l =–1. A unified formalism is presented to study Hamiltonian linear systems driven by noise. With this formalism, the phase averaging approximation, valid at weak noise, is easily performed. Already known results are straightforwardly recovered and new ones are obtained. After introducing this formalism on the exactly solvable one-degree-of-freedom problem with uncorrelated noise, one studies the corresponding exponentially correlated case. The validity of the approximate results thus obtained is considered by investigating the systematic weak-disorder expansion beyond the quasilinear approximation. In particular, it is argued that this expansion behaves uniformly for weak and large correlation time. The two-degrees-of-freedom problem is completely solved at the low-disorder approximation and this result is applied to the two-channel Anderson localization problem. The invariant measure and the two positive Lyapunov exponents are computed at all coupling between the channels. For systems withn degree of freedom the phase averaging leads to a Fokker-Planck equation for the measure in action space describing the system. However, it is argued that it is not solvable except in a special case which is explicitly displayed and solved. Nevertheless, in the large-n limit, it is possible to compute the largest Lyapunov exponent. Moreover, generalized Lyapunov exponents are calculated in this limit, and they do not exhibit a dispersion: in particular, log/log1, where is the energy of the system and where the brackets denote averaging over the noise. On the other hand, it is possible to compute at weak noise the sum of all the positive Lyapunov exponents. Taking into account all these results allows more insight on the whole spectrum of Lyapunov exponents.  相似文献

The spectrum (H) of the tight binding Fibonacci Hamiltonian (H mn= m,n+1+ m+1,n + m,n v(n),v(n)= ((n–1)), 1/ is the golden number) is shown to coincide with the dynamical spectrum, the set on which an infinite subsequence of traces of transfer matrices is bounded. The point spectrum is absent for any , and (H) is a Cantor set for 4. A new, time-local (TL) reduced equation of motion for the probability distribution of excitations in a disordered system is developed. ToO(k2) the TL equation results in a Gaussian spatial probability distribution, i.e, P(r, t) = [(2)1/2]–dexp(-r2/22), where = (t) is a correlation length, andr = ¦r¦. The corresponding distribution derived from the Hahn-Zwanzig (HZ) equation is more complicated and assumes the asymptotic (r ) form: P(r, s)(s d )–1exp(–r/) · (r/)(1-d)/2 where = (s),d is the space dimensionality, ands is the Laplace transform variable conjugate tot. The HZ distribution generalizes the scaling form suggested by Alexanderet al. ford= 1. In the Markov limit (t)t, (s)1/s, and the two distributions are identical (ordinary diffusion).  相似文献

We study, both numerically and theoretically, the relationship between the random Lyapunov exponent of a family of area preserving diffeomorphisms of the 2-sphere and the mean of the Lyapunov exponents of the individual members. The motivation for this study is the hope that a rich enough family of diffeomorphisms will always have members with positive Lyapunov exponents, that is to say, positive entropy. At question is what sort of notion of richness would make such a conclusion valid. One type of richness of a family—invariance under the left action of SO(n+1)—occurs naturally in the context of volume preserving diffeomorphisms of the n-sphere. Based on some positive results for families linear maps obtained by Dedieu and Shub, we investigate the exponents of such a family on the 2-sphere. Again motivated by the linear case, we investigate whether there is in fact a lower bound for the mean of the Lyapunov exponents in terms of the random exponents (with respect to the push-forward of Haar measure on SO(3)) in such a family. The family that we study contains a twist map with stretching parameter . In the family , we find strong numerical evidence for the existence of such a lower bound on mean Lyapunov exponents, when the values of the stretching parameter are not too small. Even moderate values of like 10 are enough to have an average of the metric entropy larger than that of the random map. For small the estimated average entropy seems positive but is definitely much less than the one of the random map. The numerical evidence is in favor of the existence of exponentially small lower and upper bounds (in the present example, with an analytic family). Finally, the effect of a small randomization of fixed size of the individual elements of the family is considered. Now the mean of the local random exponents of the family is indeed asymptotic to the random exponent of the entire family as tends to infinity.  相似文献

The paper explains the theory of modelling electrostatic fields by a resistance network. The conditions, which the resistance network must satisfy, are derived and the question of modelling electrodes of different shapes is solved. The finished network and the results obtained on it when modelling a jet for a linear h-f accelerator of electrons are described. Particular attention is paid to the influence of a space charge, the modelling of which is an advantage of this method.

I show how continuous products of random transformations constrained by a generic group structure can be studied by using Iwasawa's decomposition into angular, diagonal, and shear degrees of freedom. In the case of a Gaussian process a set of variables, adapted to the Iwasawa decomposition and still having a Gaussian distribution, is introduced and used to compute the statistics of the finite-time Lyapunov spectrum of the process. The variables also allow to show the exponential freezing of the shear degrees of freedom, which contain information about the Lyapunov eigenvectors.  相似文献

On the planar hexagonal lattice , we analyze the Markov process whose state (t), in , updates each site v asynchronously in continuous time t0, so that v (t) agrees with a majority of its (three) neighbors. The initial v (0)'s are i.i.d. with P[ v (0)=+1]=p[0,1]. We study, both rigorously and by Monte Carlo simulation, the existence and nature of the percolation transition as t and p1/2. Denoting by +(t,p) the expected size of the plus cluster containing the origin, we (1) prove that +(,1/2)= and (2) study numerically critical exponents associated with the divergence of +(,p) as p1/2. A detailed finite-size scaling analysis suggests that the exponents and of this t= (dependent) percolation model have the same values, 4/3 and 43/18, as standard two-dimensional independent percolation. A contribution to the absorption spectrum of amorphous selenium in the infra-red region
The absorption spectrum of amorphous selenium was measured in the region of 0·6 to 25 on samples of high purity and homogeneity. The absorption bands of amorphous and liquid sulphur were also measured in the same wave-length region. The measurements showed that the absorption bands 13·4 and 20·4 , appearing in the spectrum of amorphous selenium, are its intrinsic absorption bands and are not caused by impurities, as some authors think. The similarity between the infra-red spectra of selenium and sulphur is shown.

We investigate collective effects in the strong pinning model of disordered charge and spin density waves (CDWs and SDWs) in connection with heat relaxation experiments. We discuss the classical and quantum limits that contribute to two distinct contribution to the specific heat (a Cv T-2 contribution and a Cv T contribution respectively), with two different types of disorder (strong pinning versus substitutional impurities). From the calculation of the two level system energy splitting distribution in the classical limit we find no slow relaxation in the commensurate case and a broad spectrum of relaxation times in the incommensurate case. In the commensurate case quantum effects restore a non vanishing energy relaxation, and generate stronger disorder effects in incommensurate systems. For substitutional disorder we obtain Friedel oscillations of bound states close to the Fermi energy. With negligible interchain couplings this explains the power-law specific heat Cv T observed in experiments on CDWs and SDWs combined to the power-law susceptibility (T)T-1+ observed in the CDW o-TaS3.  相似文献

For the Ising model with nearest neighbour interaction it is shown that the spin correlations A B - A B decrease exponentially asd(A, B) in a pure phase when the temperature is well belowT c. This is used to prove that the free energyF(,h) is infinitely differentiable in and has one sided derivatives inh of all orders forh=0. The bounds are also used to prove that the central limit theorem holds for several variables such as e.g. the total energy and the total magnetization of the system, the limit distribution being gaussian with variances determined by the second derivatives ofF(,h).  相似文献

Pairs of gamma quanta, giving a sum equal to the binding energy of the last neutron in a Co60 isotope, were studied during radiation capture on a Co59 nucleus. The energies of the gamma quanta giving such cascades were determined and an attempt was made to determine the relative intensities of the different cascades.
