An index to evaluate indoor noise level reduction with an open window Noise Reduction Index (NRI) was proposed [Buratti C. Indoor Noise Reduction Index with open window. Appl Acoust 2002;63(4):431-51]. The reduction was due to the installation of a false ceiling in the room, thus reducing the contribution of the reverberant field. Experimental data related to two different kinds of false ceiling were compared to the results obtained by an original calculation model. Good agreement was found between experiments with two different materials and predictions. The present paper examines six different kinds of false ceiling and arrives at a new validation of the model. Calculations of NRI show good agreement with experimental data: a maximum difference of −1.2 dB(A) was found with a mean difference of 0.5 dB(A) for a wide range of absorption coefficient values. Hence the model represents a reliable instrument for indoor NRI prediction, if the acoustic absorption characteristics of materials are known.  相似文献

The cause of insufficient privacy in open plan offices is identified as the reduction of background noise level resulting from the installation of highly absorbent ceilings intended to enhance the performance of portable acoustic screens. The V-form ceiling is suggested as a ceiling design which may increase both screen performance and background level. The extent to which these variables are affected by the use of such a design is investigated by using an acoustic scale model technique. The experimental approach used enables the measurement of attenuation curves for different ceiling configurations and allows the full appraisal of screen performance. It is concluded from the investigation that a V-form ceiling can contribute only marginally to increased privacy in open plan offices by decreasing the Articulation Index for speaker/listener situations by about 0·1.  相似文献

Installing open ceiling meeting rooms inside a large open-plan office provides a solution to increase speech privacy and to reduce speech disturbance in the office. The open ceiling meeting rooms have advantages of low cost construction and flexibility, but have lower speech privacy than that of enclosed rooms due to the open ceiling. Existing research shows that many factors should be taken into account to achieve good speech privacy in open-plan offices and improving only one of these factors may result in little improvement, so it is important to distinguish contributions of different acoustic transmission paths of open ceiling meeting rooms in open-plan offices. This paper proposes an impulse response separation method to quantify contributions of various acoustic paths of open ceiling rooms on speech privacy in open-plan offices. The method is verified with simulations based on the Odeon software and the experiments carried out in 3 different types of rooms. Finally, the proposed method is applied to the Fabpod, a semi enclosed meeting room located in a large indoor office at the Design Research Institute of the RMIT University, to obtain the contributions of different acoustic transmission paths to its speech privacy. The method proposed in this paper and the knowledge obtained are useful for architects to improve the acoustic performance of the next generation Fabpods which are now under design at RMIT University.  相似文献

The construction and performance of an acoustic chamber suitable for sound intensity measurements is described. The walls and the ceiling of the room are treated with glass wool sheets, air gap and pleated carpet in that order for sound absorption. The final testing of the room shows that good sound absorption is obtained down to low frequencies. The sound absorption coefficient for the room varies between 0.83 and 0.91 for different frequencies.  相似文献

Charts for acoustic design of a room in front of intrusive noise sources are the subject of this paper. The charts are based on modified room acoustics formulae, which yield consistent solutions, not to be obtained by the usual standards. The charts enable easy and quick determination of the necessary acoustic means for reduction of the level of the noise emanating into the room. Such a reduction may be well above 10 dB, even for periods of the day when windows are left open.The charts are useful for determining the size of windows and doors and the absorption area in the receiving room. They are useful also in the design of sound locks and sound transmission through various routes.  相似文献

The acoustical insertion losses produced by a balcony-like structure in front of a window are examined experimentally. The results suggest that the balcony ceiling is the most appropriate location for the installation of artificial sound absorption for the purpose of improving the broadband insertion loss, while the side walls are found to be the second best. Results also indicate that the acoustic modes of the balcony opening and the balcony cavity resonance in a direction normal to the window could have a great impact on the one-third octave band insertion losses. The maximum broadband road traffic noise insertion loss achieved is about 7 dB.  相似文献

The results of measurements carried out at 22 main road sites surfaced with pervious bituminous materials have confirmed that the low levels of vehicle noise observed for these surfaces, when constructed under laboratory conditions and tested with single vehicle noise sources, were also achieved under normal road conditions and for random vehicles drawn from the traffic stream. The average reductions in vehicle noise obtained, when compared with conventional surfacings with the same skid resistance index, ΔBFC, were approximately 5 dB(A) for ‘light’ vehicles and 4 dB(A) for ‘heavy’ vehicles.The noise reductions obtained were not found to be dependent on the age and corresponding wear of the surface over the period 3–110 months, or to the skidding resistance of the surface, ΔBFC, over the range −22 to +23%.The results suggest that the low noise characteristics of pervious road surfaces are a result of the high acoustic absorption provided by these surfaces.  相似文献

The cost of reducing noise levels in factories by covering large surfaces with sound absorbents is high. It is therefore important to be able to calculate in advance the effectiveness of absorbents and to determine how absorbents may be chosen and distributed for maximal noise reduction for the invested capital. For this purpose a mathematical model of sound propagation and attenuation in factories has been developed on certain simplifying assumptions. The interrelationship between the different parameters is found to be rather intricate and the mathematical model must be evaluated using a computer program. The influence on the noise levels of sound scattering objects, the shape and size of the factory and absorbents on the room surfaces have been studied. Especially if the ceiling is high, acoustic baffles are found to be more efficient than absorbents on the ceiling in reducing noise levels.  相似文献

Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) enables sites of brain activation to be localized in human subjects. For studies of the auditory system, acoustic noise generated during fMRI can interfere with assessments of this activation by introducing uncontrolled extraneous sounds. As a first step toward reducing the noise during fMRI, this paper describes the temporal and spectral characteristics of the noise present under typical fMRI study conditions for two imagers with different static magnetic field strengths. Peak noise levels were 123 and 138 dB re 20 microPa in a 1.5-tesla (T) and a 3-T imager, respectively. The noise spectrum (calculated over a 10-ms window coinciding with the highest-amplitude noise) showed a prominent maximum at 1 kHz for the 1.5-T imager (115 dB SPL) and at 1.4 kHz for the 3-T imager (131 dB SPL). The frequency content and timing of the most intense noise components indicated that the noise was primarily attributable to the readout gradients in the imaging pulse sequence. The noise persisted above background levels for 300-500 ms after gradient activity ceased, indicating that resonating structures in the imager or noise reverberating in the imager room were also factors. The gradient noise waveform was highly repeatable. In addition, the coolant pump for the imager's permanent magnet and the room air-handling system were sources of ongoing noise lower in both level and frequency than gradient coil noise. Knowledge of the sources and characteristics of the noise enabled the examination of general approaches to noise control that could be applied to reduce the unwanted noise during fMRI sessions.  相似文献

Annoyance expressed in a railway noise survey is compared with that in two road traffic and three aircraft surveys in order to determine whether responses to various environmental noises are similar or are source-specific. Railway noise is less annoying than other noises at any given high noise level. Railway noise annoyance increases less rapidly with increasing noise level. At high noise levels this gap in reactions averages about 10 dB but ranges from 4 dB to more than 20 dB. Comparisons between the findings in the different surveys can be made only after considering differences in noise index calculation procedures, human response measurement procedures and annoyance moderating conditions. The methodology for comparing surveys is examined. It is found that methodological uncertainties lead to imprecise comparisons and that different annoyance scales give different estimates of intersurvey differences.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to explore and compare the effect of noise from railway and road traffic on sleep in subjects habitually exposed to nocturnal noise. Forty young and middle aged healthy subjects were studied with polysomnography (PSG) during two consecutive nights in their own bedroom. Noise measurements and recordings were conducted concurrently outside of the bedroom fac?ade as well as inside the bedroom of each participant. Different noise exposure parameters were calculated (L(p,A,eq,night), L(p,A,Fmax,night), and L(AF5,night)) and analyzed in relation to whole-night sleep parameters. The group exposed to railway noise had significantly less Rapid eye movement, (REM) sleep than the group exposed to road traffic noise. A significant association was found between the maximum level (L(p,A,Fmax,night)) of railway noise and time spent in REM sleep. REM sleep was significantly shorter in the group exposed to at least a single railway noise event above 50 dB inside the bedroom. These results, obtained in an ecological valid setting, support previous laboratory findings that railway noise has a stronger impact than road traffic noise on physiological parameters during sleep, and that the maximum noise level is an important predictor of noise effects on sleep assessed by PSG, at least for railway noise.  相似文献

This paper reports the results of a large scale, detailed acoustic survey of 42 open plan classrooms of varying design in the UK each of which contained between 2 and 14 teaching areas or classbases. The objective survey procedure, which was designed specifically for use in open plan classrooms, is described. The acoustic measurements relating to speech intelligibility within a classbase, including ambient noise level, intrusive noise level, speech to noise ratio, speech transmission index, and reverberation time, are presented. The effects on speech intelligibility of critical physical design variables, such as the number of classbases within an open plan unit and the selection of acoustic finishes for control of reverberation, are examined. This analysis enables limitations of open plan classrooms to be discussed and acoustic design guidelines to be developed to ensure good listening conditions. The types of teaching activity to provide adequate acoustic conditions, plus the speech intelligibility requirements of younger children, are also discussed.  相似文献

The paper describes a model that can be used to reconstitute the acoustic signature (sound pressure level) of a moving road vehicle. Account is taken of the Doppler and ground effects and of the directional characteristics of the noise emitted by the vehicle. The variations of the usual noise indices (maximum noise level, equivalent noise level due to the passing by of the vehicle) with the different parameters concerned, as determined by the modal, are considered and such variations compared with experimental results. It is shown, on the basis of the assumptions made, how a monopole source provides a good representation of a road vehicle. Finally an evaluation is made of the accuracy with which the apparent acoustic power of a vehicle can be determined.  相似文献

The exposure-response relationships between subjective annoyance with sleep disturbance from railway trains and road traffic noise were established from an extensive social survey by CENVR (Center for Environmental Noise and Vibration Research) in Korea. The objectives of this research are to determine the long-term effects of noise on sleep and to compare the exposure-response relationships from different noise sources with those from other studies and to elucidate the effects of some modifying factors on subjective responses to noise. From an investigation of the percentage of a highly sleep-disturbed population (%HSD) in response to railway and road traffic noise, it was found that sleep is affected more by railway noise than by road traffic noise. The effects of non-acoustical factors on the responses were examined and sensitivity was shown to be a significant modifying factor, as it pertains to subjective sleep disturbance. A comparison of the response curves from an analysis of pooled data from predominantly European surveys by Miedema and Vos [Behav. Sleep Med. 5, 1-20 (2007)] with the response curves from this survey showed more of a subjective sleep disturbance response in this survey to railway noise, whereas there was no significant difference in terms of a response to road traffic noise.  相似文献

Unattended background speech is a known source of cognitive and subjective distraction in open-plan offices. This study investigated whether the deleterious effects of background speech can be affected by room acoustic design that decreases speech intelligibility, as measured by the Speech Transmission Index (STI). The experiment was conducted in an open-plan office laboratory (84 m2) in which four acoustic conditions were physically built. Three conditions contained background speech. A quiet condition was included for comparison. The speech conditions differed in terms of the degree of absorption, screen height, desk isolation, and the level of masking sound. The speech sounds simulated an environment where phone conversations are heard from different locations varying in distance. Ninety-eight volunteers were tested. The presence of background speech had detrimental effects on the subjective perceptions of noise effects and on cognitive performance in short-term memory and working memory tasks. These effects were not attenuated nor amplified within a three-hour working period. The reduction of the STI by room acoustic means decreased subjective disturbance, whereas the effects on cognitive performance were somewhat smaller than expected. The effects of room acoustic design on subjective distraction were stronger among noise-sensitive subjects, suggesting that they benefited more from acoustic improvements than non-sensitive subjects. The results imply that reducing the STI is beneficial for performance and acoustic satisfaction especially regarding speech coming from more distant desks. However, acoustic design does not sufficiently decrease the distraction caused by speech from adjacent desks.  相似文献

The present study investigates the application of periodic type diffusers for improving the acoustics in classrooms and proposes an optimum combination of absorptive and diffusing treatments for achieving preferred acoustics in classrooms. The measurements were carried out in a 1/10 scale model classroom, adding different amounts of absorptive and diffusing materials to one or more of five surfaces of the room. Adding absorptive materials on the entire ceiling area and diffusers on each wall increased early-to-late arriving sound ratio (C50) values corresponding to higher clarity. Adding diffusers on 25% of the ceiling area with the other 75% absorptive was more beneficial for achieving higher G50 and G values than adding absorptive materials on the entire ceiling. Diffusers were beneficial for enhancing the early arriving reflection energy (G50) at the most distant seats and they resulted in achieving more uniform acoustical conditions across the room. The treatment of the front wall with diffusers was found to lead to better acoustical conditions than treating the rear and side walls with diffusers. Adding diffusers on the ceiling and lower front wall or side wall and adding diffusers on the ceiling and absorptive materials on the lower front wall were selected for consideration as the more successful treatments for classroom acoustic design.  相似文献

The absorption coefficient of acoustic materials can be measured either in the frequency or the time domain. At normal incidence, a sample of the material is fitted within an impedance tube and the absorption coefficient is calculated in the frequency domain from the measurement of the transfer function between two microphones [ISO 10534-2. 对碰撞点的有效性判断是传统声线跟踪法的一个重要步骤,在计算复杂的室内空间问题时计算量较大,为解决这一问题采用了一种与空间剖分相结合的改进的声线跟踪法。将该方法与微观交通流仿真和车辆噪声排放模型进行结合,实现了道路交通噪声透过窗户在多连通室内空间传播的动态模拟。最后采用该方法对相同道路和交通流条件下不同建筑朝向的4种布局室内噪声进行动态模拟。分析了室内交通噪声的大小和分布与建筑物布局、窗户的朝向、窗户的形式和面积等因数之间的关系。结果表明:窗户正对道路的房间比窗户侧对道路的房间噪声高4~6 d B(A),房间内等效声级与窗户面积的对数成正比关系。  相似文献

This paper proposes the use of a simplified analytical model to evaluate acoustic conditions in restaurant dining rooms required for ensuring the intelligibility of conversations. The model is useful for design applications and is suitable for evaluating the maximum number of speakers present in a restaurant room in order to ensure intelligibility of conversations taking place at each table in the presence of background noise caused by conversations at other tables. The maximum number of speakers is studied in relation to the sound level difference between useful and disturbing sound, sound absorption of the room, and the average speaker–listener distance. The model is applied to the case of a dining hall in a multipurpose centre, which is currently in the planning stage.  相似文献

It has been found in European studies that railway noise causes less annoyance than road traffic noise. However, recent Japanese studies have shown that there is no systematic difference in dose-response relationships between railway and road traffic noises. In general Japanese houses are situated closer to railways or roads than European houses. The purpose of the study was to investigate whether the distance from noise source to houses influences community responses to railway and road traffic noises. A re-analysis was made of data from social surveys on community responses to railway and road traffic noises, which have been obtained from 1994 to 2001 in Kyushu, a warmer area of Japan and Hokkaido, a colder area. The results showed that the annoyance in areas close to railways was greater than that in distant areas, while there was no difference in dose-response relationships for road traffic noise between both areas. Considering the situation of houses in Europe and Japan, it is expected that the annoyance caused by railway noise is more severe in Japan than in Europe. The distance from noise source to houses may be one of the causes of the difference in community responses between Europe and Japan.  相似文献
