R will denote a commutative integral domain with quotient fieldQ. A torsion-free cover of a moduleM is a torsion-free moduleF and anR-epimorphism σ:FM such that given any torsion-free moduleG and λ∈Hom R (G, M) there exists μ∈Hom R (G,F) such that σμ=λ. It is known that ifM is a maximal ideal ofR, R→R/M is a torsion-free cover if and only ifR is a maximal valuation ring. LetE denote the injective hull ofR/M thenR→R/M extends to a homomorphismQ→E. LetR * G be a crossed product of the finite groupG over the ringR. In this paper we discuss the relationship between the prime ideals ofR*G and theG-prime ideals ofR. In particular, we show that Incomparability and Going Down hold in this situation. In the course of the proof, we actually completely describe all the prime idealsP ofR*G such thatPR is a fixedG-prime ideal ofR. As an application, we prove that ifG is a finite group of automorphisms ofR, then the prime (primitive) ranks ofR and of the fixed ringR G are equal provided •G•R. In an appendix, we extend some of these 3 results to crossed products of the infinite cyclic group.  相似文献

A ring is an LD-ring ifR is left bounded, ifR/J is a left Artinian left principal ideal ring for every proper idealJ inR, and ifR has finite left Goldie dimension. IfR is non-Artinian thenR is an order in a simple Artinian ringS. The ideal theory of LD-rings is investigated, and we discuss some conditions under which an LD-ring is an hereditary ring, and some under which an LD-ring is a Noetherian, bounded, maximal Asano order. A central localization of an LD-ring is an LD-ring, and the center of some LD-rings is a Krull-domain. This research was supported in part by the National Science Foundation Grant GP 23861.  相似文献

To each associative ringR we can assign the adjoint Lie ringR (−) (with the operation(a,b)=ab−ba) and two semigroups, the multiplicative semigroupM(R) and the associated semigroupA(R) (with the operationaob=ab+a+b). It is clear that a Lie ringR (−) is commutative if and only if the semigroupM(R) (orA(R)) is commutative. In the present paper we try to generalize this observation to the case in whichR (−) is a nilpotent Lie ring. It is proved that ifR is an associative algebra with identity element over an infinite fieldF, then the algebraR (−) is nilpotent of lengthc if and only if the semigroupM(R) (orA(R)) is nilpotent of lengthc (in the sense of A. I. Mal'tsev or B. Neumann and T. Taylor). For the case in whichR is an algebra without identity element overF, this assertion remains valid forA(R), but fails forM(R). LetR be an integral domain andI a non-zero ideal ofR. The canonical mapR→R/I is called atorsion-free cover ofR/I if everyR-homomorphism from a torsion-freeR-module intoR/I can be factored throughR. The main result of this paper is thatR→R/I is a torsion-free cover if and only ifR is complete in theR-topology andI is an ideal of injective dimension 1. In this caseI is contained in the Jacobson radical ofR. And if Λ is the endomorphism ring ofI, then Λ is a quasi-local domain. IfI is a flatR-module, thenQ→Q/Λ is a torsion-free cover, whereQ is the quotient field ofR. And thenQ/Λ is an indecomposable injectiveR (and Λ) module. In this paper, we prove that the injective cover of theR-moduleE(R/B)/R/B for a prime ideal B ofR is the direct sum of copies ofE(R/B) for prime ideals D ⊃ B, and if B is maximal, the injective cover is a finite sum of copies ofE(R/B). For a finitely generatedR-moduleM withn generators andG an injectiveR-module, we argue that the natural mapG nG n/Hom R (M, G) is an injective precover if Ext R 1 (M, R) = 0, and that the converse holds ifG is an injective cogenerator ofR. Consequently, for a maximal ideal R ofR, depthR R ≧ 2 if and only if the natural mapE(R/R) →E(R/R)/R/R is an injective cover and depthR R > 0.  相似文献

Summary This paper is concerned with estimates of the minimal number of generators for maximal idealsM in the polynomial ringR[X 1, …,X n] (R an integral domain) such thatM⊃R=0. In particular it is proved that ifn≥2 andR is a 1-dimensionalS-domain, every such maximal ideal can be generated byn elements.

LetR=F{x 1, …, xk} be a prime affine p.i. ring andS a multiplicative closed set in the center ofR, Z(R). The structure ofG-rings of the formR s is completely determined. In particular it is proved thatZ(R s)—the normalization ofZ(R s) —is a prüfer ring, 1≦k.d(R s)≦p.i.d(R s) and the inequalities can be strict. We also obtain a related result concerning the contractability ofq, a prime ideal ofZ(R) fromR. More precisely, letQ be a prime ideal ofR maximal to satisfyQϒZ(R)=q. Then k.dZ(R)/q=k.dR/Q, h(q)=h(Q) andh(q)+k.dZ(R)/q=k.dz(R). The last condition is a necessary butnot sufficient condition for contractability ofq fromR.  相似文献

Consider a valuation ringR of a discrete Henselian field and a positive integerr. LetF be the quotient field of the ringR[[X 1, …,X r ]]. We prove that every finite group occurs as a Galois group overF. In particular, ifK 0 is an arbitrary field andr≥2, then every finite group occurs as a Galois group overK 0((X 1, …,X r )). The work on this paper started when the author was an organizer of a research group on the Arithmetic of Fields in the Institute for Advanced Studies at the Hebrew Univesity of Jerusalem in 1991–92. The semilinear perturbation of Poisson’s equation (E): −Δu+β(u)∋f, where β is a maximal monotone graph inR, has been investigated by Ph. Bénilan, H. Brézis and M. Crandall forfL 1(R N ),N≧1, under the assumptions 0∈β(0) ifN≧3 and 0∈β(0) ∩ Int β(R) ifN=1,2. We discuss in this paper the solvability and well-posedness of (E) in terms of any maximal monotone graph β. In particular, if β takes only positive values andN≧3 we prove that no solution exists; ifN=2 we give necessary and sufficient conditions on β andf for (E) to be solvable in a natural sense.  相似文献

In this paper we prove that if a ringR satisfies the condition that for some integern > 1,a n =a for everya inR, thenR a hopfian ring implies that the ringR [T] of polynomials is also hopfian. This generalizes a recent result of Varadarajan which states that ifR is a Boolean hopfian ring then the ringR[T] is also hopfian. We show furthermore that there are numerous ringsR satisfying the hypothesis of our theorem which are neither Boolean nor Noetherian.  相似文献

LetR be an integral domain whose quotient field is an algebraic number field. Cooke and Weinberger [4] showed that, assuming the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis, ifR is a principal ideal domain and has infinite unit group, thenR is 4-stage Euclidean with the absolute value of the norm as algorithm. We remove the assumption of the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis from this result for totally real Galois extensions of ℚ of degree greater than or equal to three, replacing it with the requirement of finding sufficiently many prime elements ofR, ℚ such that the unit group ofR maps onto (R/((π1⋯π r )2))* via the reduction map. We consider here a ringK, a derivationD ofK and the differential polynomial ringR=K[X;D]. The ringK is said to be a Brown-McCoy ring if the prime radical coincides with the Brown-McCoy radical in every homomorphic image ofK. AD-Brown-McCoy ring is defined in a similar way. We prove the following conditions are equivalent: (i)K is aD-Brown-McCoy ring; (ii)R is a Brown-McCoy ring and for every maximal idealM ofR,K/(MνK) is aD-simple ring with 1. In addition, we give some applications and examples on the study of the transfer of the property of being a Brown-McCoy ring betweenK andR. Further, we study the relation between the prime and theD-prime ideals of a differential intermediate extension of a liberal extension. We study ideals and the center of the smash productR #U(L) (respectivelyR #u(L) ifL is restricted) and use these results to study the relationship betweenR and the ring of constantsR L . More generally, for any finite-dimensional Hopf algebraH acting onR such thatR #H satisfies the “ideal intersection property”, we useR #H to study the relationship betweenR and the invariant ringR H .
