We show that strong homology groups p(X; G) of a space X vanish if p is greater than the shape dimension sd X. For p=sd X, p(X; G) coincides with the Čech homology groups Ȟp(X; G). We also show that there exist 1-dimensional spaces, which do not admit 1-dimensional ANR-resolutions. Therefore, the vanishing of p(X; G) for p>dim X is a nontrivial fact.  相似文献

Let be an elliptic differential operator with unbounded coefficients on RN and assume that the associated Feller semigroup (T(t))t?0 has an invariant measure μ. Then (T(t))t?0 extends to a strongly continuous semigroup (Tp(t))t?0 on Lp(μ)=Lp(RN,μ) for every 1?p<∞. Let K be a finite tamely ramified extension of Qp and let L/K be a totally ramified (Z/pnZ)-extension. Let πL be a uniformizer for L, let σ be a generator for Gal(L/K), and let f(X) be an element of OK[X] such that σ(πL)=f(πL). We show that the reduction of f(X) modulo the maximal ideal of OK determines a certain subextension of L/K up to isomorphism. We use this result to study the field extensions generated by periodic points of a p-adic dynamical system.  相似文献

We consider pseudodifferential operators with operator valued symbols a(x,ξ) acting on a UMD Banach space X. Assuming some regularity of Hölder type in x and Mihlin type in ξ we prove L p (? n ;X) boundedness of such operators. This result is then applied to the study of L p -maximal regularity for nonautonomous parabolic evolution equations.  相似文献

We show that any Banach space contains a continuum of non-isomorphic subspaces or a minimal subspace. We define an ergodic Banach space X as a space such that E0 Borel reduces to isomorphism on the set of subspaces of X, and show that every Banach space is either ergodic or contains a subspace with an unconditional basis which is complementably universal for the family of its block-subspaces. We also use our methods to get uniformity results. We show that an unconditional basis of a Banach space, of which every block-subspace is complemented, must be asymptotically c0 or ?p, and we deduce some new characterisations of the classical spaces c0 and ?p.  相似文献

For a Tychonoff space X, we denote by C p (X) the space of real-valued continuous functions with the topology of pointwise convergence. We show that (a) Arhangel℉skii℉s property (α 2) and the Ramsey property introduced by Nogura and Shakhmatov are equivalent for C p (X), (b) the Ramsey property and Nyikos’ property (α 3/2) are not equivalent for C p (X). These results answer questions posed by Shakhmatov. Concerning properties (α i ) for C p (X), some results on Scheepers’ conjecture are also given.  相似文献

Van Douwen, and independently Chae and Smith, have shown that each non-pseudocompact space of countable π-weight has a remote point. Van Mill showed that many spaces of π-weight ω1, such as ω×2ω1 also have remote points.We show that arbitrarily large products of spaces with countable π-weight which are not pseudocompact have remote points. In this paper we consider the nonlinear differential equation with deviated argument u(t)=Au(t)+f(t,u(t),u[φ(u(t),t)]), tR+, in a Banach space (X,‖⋅‖), where A is the infinitesimal generator of an analytic semigroup. We investigate simultaneous solutions of the matrix Sylvester equations AiX-XBi=Ci,i=1,2,…,k, where {A1,…,Ak} and {B1,…,Bk} are k-tuples of commuting matrices of order m×m and p×p, respectively. We show that the matrix Sylvester equations have a unique solution X for every compatible k-tuple of m×p matrices {C1,…,Ck} if and only if the joint spectra σ(A1,…,Ak) and σ(B1,…,Bk) are disjoint. We discuss the connection between the simultaneous solutions of Sylvester equations and related questions about idempotent matrices separating disjoint subsets of the joint spectrum, spectral mapping for the differences of commuting k-tuples, and a characterization of the joint spectrum via simultaneous solutions of systems of linear equations.  相似文献

It is well known that the space Cp([0,1]) has countable tightness but it is not Fréchet-Urysohn. Let X be a Cech-complete topological space. We prove that the space Cp(X) of continuous real-valued functions on X endowed with the pointwise topology is Fréchet-Urysohn if and only if Cp(X) has countable bounded tightness, i.e., for every subset A of Cp(X) and every x in the closure of A in Cp(X) there exists a countable and bounding subset of A whose closure contains x. We study also the problem when the weak topology of a locally convex space has countable bounded tightness. Additional results in this direction are provided.  相似文献

A Tychonoff space X has to be finite if Cp(X) is σ-countably compact [23]. However, this is not true if only σ-pseudocompactness of Cp(X) is assumed. It is proved that Cp(X) is σ-pseudocompact iff X is pseudocompact and b-discrete. The technique developed yields an example showing that the theorem of Grothendieck [7] cannot be extended over the class of pseudocompact spaces. Some generalizations of the results of Lutzer and McCoy [9] are obtained. We establish also that ∏{Cp(Xt):tϵT} is a Baire space in case Cp(Xt) is Baire for each tT.  相似文献

We prove that there are Tychonoff spaces X for which p(Cp(X)) =? and Cp(X) is a Lindelöf Σ-space while the network weight of X is uncountable. This answers Problem 75 from [4]. An example of a space Y is given such that p(Y)=? and Cp(Y) is a Lindelöf Σ-space, while the network weight of Y is uncountable. This gives a negative answer to Problem 73 from [4]. For a space X with one non-isolated point a necessary and sufficient condition in terms of the topology on X is given for Cp(X) to have countable point-finite cellularity.  相似文献

In this note we classify the complex projectiven-foldsX ? ? N with dimension equal to the dimension of its dualX* minus one,n ≤ 2/3N and positive defect. We show that suchn-folds are hyperplane sections of then + 1-folds withdim X=dim X* (classified by Ein) and some scrolls over curves. The natural generalization is to consider the setS p of positive defectn-folds withdim(X)=dim(X*) ? (p ? 1) (p a fixed positive integer). We show that the set of possible values of the pair (N,n) withn ≤ 2/3N corresponding to nondegeneraten-folds inS p which are not scrolls is finite.  相似文献

The main purpose of this paper is to derive a new ( p, q)-atomic decomposition on the multi-parameter Hardy space Hp (X1 × X2 ) for 0 p0 p ≤ 1 for some p0 and all 1 q ∞, where X1 × X2 is the product of two spaces of homogeneous type in the sense of Coifman and Weiss. This decomposition converges in both Lq (X1 × X2 ) (for 1 q ∞) and Hardy space Hp (X1 × X2 ) (for 0 p ≤ 1). As an application, we prove that an operator T1, which is bounded on Lq (X1 × X2 ) for some 1 q ∞, is bounded from Hp (X1 × X2 ) to Lp (X1 × X2 ) if and only if T is bounded uniformly on all (p, q)-product atoms in Lp (X1 × X2 ). The similar boundedness criterion from Hp (X1 × X2 ) to Hp (X1 × X2 ) is also obtained.  相似文献

A Hilbert bundle (p, B, X) is a type of fibre space p: BX such that each fibre p?1(x) is a Hilbert space. However, p?1(x) may vary in dimension as x varies in X, even when X is connected. We give two “homotopy” type classification theorems for Hilbert bundles having primarily finite dimensional fibres. An (m, n)-bundle over the pair (X, A) is a Hilbert bundle over (p, B, X) such that the dimension of p?1(x) is m for x in A and n otherwise. As a special case, we show that if X is a compact metric space, C+X the upper cone of the suspension SX, then the isomorphism classes of (m, n)-bundles over (SX, C+X) are in one-to-one correspondence with the members of [X, Vm(Cn)] where Vm(Cn) is the Stiefel manifold. The results are all applicable to the classification of separable, continuous trace C1-algebras, with specific results given to illustrate.  相似文献

Let (X, d) be a locally compact separable ultrametric space. We assume that (X, d) is proper, that is, any closed ball B?X is a compact set. Given a measure m on X and a function C(B) defined on the set of balls (the choice function) we define the hierarchical Laplacian L C which is closely related to the concept of the hierarchical lattice of F.J. Dyson. L C is a non-negative definite self-adjoint operator in L 2(X, m). In this paper we address the following question: How general can be the spectrum \(\mathsf {Spec}(L_{C})\subseteq \mathbb {R}_{+}?\) When (X, d) is compact, S p e c(L C ) is an increasing sequence of eigenvalues of finite multiplicity which contains 0. Assuming that (X, d) is not compact we show that under some natural conditions concerning the structure of the hierarchical lattice (≡ the tree of d-balls) any given closed subset S ? ?+, which contains 0 as an accumulation point and is unbounded if X is non-discrete, may appear as S p e c(L C ) for some appropriately chosen function C(B). The operator ?L C extends to L q (X, m), 1 ≦ q < , as Markov generator and its spectrum does not depend on q. As an example, we consider the operator ?? α of fractional derivative defined on the field ? p of p-adic numbers.  相似文献
