We obtain a local smoothing result for Riemannian manifolds with bounded Ricci curvatures in dimension four. More precisely, given a Riemannian metric with bounded Ricci curvature and small L2-norm of curvature on a metric ball, we can find a smooth metric with bounded curvature which is C1,α-close to the original metric on a smaller ball but still of definite size.  相似文献

For a Kähler metric, the Riemannian scalar curvature is equal to twice the Chern scalar curvature. The question we address here is whether this equivalence can hold for a non-Kähler Hermitian metric. For such metrics, if they exist, the Chern scalar curvature would have the same geometric meaning as the Riemannian scalar curvature. Recently, Liu–Yang showed that if this equivalence of scalar curvatures holds even in average over a compact Hermitian manifold, then the metric must in fact be Kähler. However, we prove that a certain class of non-compact complex manifolds do admit Hermitian metrics for which this equivalence holds. Subsequently, the question of to what extent the behavior of said metrics can be dictated is addressed and a classification theorem is proved.  相似文献

Groping our way toward a theory of singular spaces with positive scalar curvatures we look at the Dirac operator and a generalized Plateau problem in Riemannian manifolds with corners. Using these, we prove that the set of C 2-smooth Riemannian metrics g on a smooth manifold X, such that scal g (x) ≥ κ(x), is closed under C 0-limits of Riemannian metrics for all continuous functions κ on X. Apart from that our progress is limited but we formulate many conjectures. All along, we emphasize geometry, rather than topology of manifolds with their scalar curvatures bounded from below.  相似文献

We show that two smooth nearby Riemannian metrics can be glued interpolating their scalar curvature. The resulting smooth metric is the same as the starting ones outside the gluing region and has scalar curvature interpolating between the original ones. One can then glue metrics while maintaining inequalities satisfied by the scalar curvature. We also glue asymptotically Euclidean metrics to Schwarzschild ones and the same for asymptotically Delaunay metrics, keeping bounds on the scalar curvature, if any. This extends the Corvino gluing near infinity to non-constant scalar curvature metrics.  相似文献

Our purpose in this paper is to study the rigidity of complete linear Weingarten hypersurfaces immersed in a locally symmetric manifold obeying some standard curvature conditions (in particular, in a Riemannian space with constant sectional curvature). Under appropriated constrains on the scalar curvature function, we prove that such a hypersurface must be either totally umbilical or isometric to an isoparametric hypersurface with two distinct principal curvatures, one of them being simple. Furthermore, we also deal with the parabolicity of these hypersurfaces with respect to a suitable Cheng–Yau modified operator.  相似文献

On a Kähler manifold there is a clear connection between the complex geometry and underlying Riemannian geometry. In some ways, this can be used to characterize the Kähler condition. While such a link is not so obvious in the non-Kähler setting, one can seek to understand extensions of these characterizations to general Hermitian manifolds. This idea has been the subject of much study from the cohomological side, however, the focus here is to address such a question from the perspective of curvature relationships. In particular, on compact manifolds the Kähler condition is characterized by the relationship that the Chern scalar curvature is equal to half the Riemannian scalar curvature. What we study here is the existence, or lack thereof, of non-Kähler Hermitian metrics for which a more general proportionality relationship between these scalar curvatures holds.  相似文献

We provide estimates on the Bartnik mass of constant mean curvature surfaces which are diffeomorphic to spheres and have positive mean curvature. We prove that the Bartnik mass is bounded from above by the Hawking mass and a new notion we call the asphericity mass. The asphericity mass is defined by applying Hamilton’s modified Ricci flow and depends only upon the restricted metric of the surface and not on its mean curvature. The theorem is proven by studying a class of asymptotically flat Riemannian manifolds foliated by surfaces satisfying Hamilton’s modified Ricci flow with prescribed scalar curvature. Such manifolds were first constructed by the first author in her dissertation conducted under the supervision of M. T. Wang. We make a further study of this class of manifolds which we denote Ham3, bounding the ADM masses of such manifolds and analyzing the rigid case when the Hawking mass of the inner surface of the manifold agrees with its ADM mass.  相似文献

In this paper, we provide various Sobolev-type inequalities for smooth nonnegative functions with compact support on a submanifold with variable mean curvature in a Riemannian manifold whose sectional curvature is bounded above by a constant. We further obtain the corresponding linear isoperimetric inequalities involving mean curvature. We also provide various first Dirichlet eigenvalue estimates for submanifolds with bounded mean curvature.  相似文献

We give an estimate of the smallest spectral value of the Laplace operator on a complete noncompact stable minimal hypersurface M in a complete simply connected Riemannian manifold with pinched negative sectional curvature. In the same ambient space, we prove that if a complete minimal hypersurface M has sufficiently small total scalar curvature then M has only one end. We also obtain a vanishing theorem for L 2 harmonic 1-forms on minimal hypersurfaces in a Riemannian manifold with sectional curvature bounded below by a negative constant. Moreover, we provide sufficient conditions for a minimal hypersurface in a Riemannian manifold with nonpositive sectional curvature to be stable.  相似文献

Total scalar curvatures of geodesic spheres obtained by integrating the second-order scalar invariants of the curvature tensor are investigated. The first terms in their power-series expansions are derived and these results are used to characterize the two-point homogeneous spaces among Riemannian manifolds with adapted holonomy. Study of modified scalar curvatures and the modified Yamabe problem is given. An existence theorem of type of Trudinger and Aubin is obtained. Interpreting Isotropic curvature as a certain modified scalar curvature we can extend the four-dimensional sphere theorem of [23]. Another modified scalar curvature is used in solving open problems concerning the conjecture of self-dual Einstein 4-manifold and the Goldberg conjecture, both being under negative Ricci condition.  相似文献

We show that a complete Riemannian manifold has finite topological type (i.e., homeomorphic to the interior of a compact manifold with boundary), provided its Bakry–Émery Ricci tensor has a positive lower bound, and either of the following conditions:(i) the Ricci curvature is bounded from above;(ii) the Ricci curvature is bounded from below and injectivity radius is bounded away from zero. Moreover, a complete shrinking Ricci soliton has finite topological type if its scalar curvature is bounded. In this paper we derive a sharp estimate for the supremum of the scalar curvature (or, equivalently, the infimum of the squared norm of the second fundamental form) of a constant mean curvature hypersurface with two principal curvatures immersed into a Riemannian space form of constant curvature. Our results will be an application of the generalized Omori-Yau maximum principle, following the approach by Pigola et al. (Memoirs Am Math Soc 822, 2005).  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce horizontal and vertical warped product Finsler manifolds. We prove that every C-reducible or proper Berwaldian doubly warped product Finsler manifold is Riemannian. Then, we find the relation between Riemannian curvatures of doubly warped product Finsler manifold and its components, and consider the cases that this manifold is flat or has scalar flag curvature. We define the doubly warped Sasaki-Matsumoto metric for warped product manifolds and find a condition under which the horizontal and vertical tangent bundles are totally geodesic. We obtain some conditions under which a foliated manifold reduces to a Reinhart manifold. Finally, we study an almost complex structure on the tangent bundle of a doubly warped product Finsler manifold.  相似文献

We introduce two versions of the Yamabe flow which preserve negative scalar-curvature bounds. First we show existence and smooth convergence of solutions to these flows. We then show that a metric with negative scalar curvature is controlled by the Yamabe metrics in the same conformal class with constant extremal scalar curvatures. This implies that the volume entropy of our original metric is controlled by the entropies of these Yamabe metrics. We eventually use these Yamabe flows to prove an entropy-rigidity result: when the Yamabe metric has negative sectional curvature, the entropy of a metric in the same conformal class is extremal if and only if the metric has constant extremal scalar curvature.  相似文献

Compact Hermitian surfaces of constant antiholomorphic sectional curvatures with respect to the Riemannian curvature tensor and with respect to the Hermitian curvature tensor are considered. It is proved: a compact Hermitian surface of constant antiholomorphic Riemannian sectional curvatures is a self-dual Kaehler surface; a compact Hermitian surface of constant antiholomorphic Hermitian sectional curvatures is either a Kaehler surface of constant (non-zero) holomorphic sectional curvatures or a conformally flat Hermitian surface.

Let (M,g) be a complete simply-connected Riemannian manifold with nonpositive curvature, k its scalar curvature, and K a smooth function on M. We obtain a nonexistence result of complete metrics on M conformal to g and with K as their scalar curvature.  相似文献

The Gauss–Bonnet curvature of order 2k is a generalization to higher dimensions of the Gauss–Bonnet integrand in dimension 2k, as the scalar curvature generalizes the two dimensional Gauss–Bonnet integrand. In this paper, we evaluate the first variation of the integrals of these curvatures seen as functionals on the space of all Riemannian metrics on the manifold under consideration. An important property of this derivative is that it depends only on the curvature tensor and not on its covariant derivatives. We show that the critical points of this functional once restricted to metrics with unit volume are generalized Einstein metrics and once restricted to a pointwise conformal class of metrics are metrics with constant Gauss–Bonnet curvature.  相似文献
