The angular-momentum dependences are analyzed for parity splitting and electric dipole transitions in alternating-parity bands of heavy nuclei. It is shown that these dependences can be treated universally by employing a single parameter taken to be a critical angular momentum that characterizes the phase transition from octupole vibrations to a stable octupole deformation. Analytic expressions for parity splitting and the electric dipole transitional moment are obtained on the basis of a simple model. The results are compared with experimental data for various barium, cerium, and neodymium isotopes.  相似文献

The Hamiltonian of the four-body problem for a lithium atom is expanded in series. The level shift and level formula of a lithium atom in Rydberg states are achieved by means of the calculation of polarization of the atomic core (including the contribution of dipole, quadrupole and octupole components). We also consider the effect of relativity theory, the orbital angular momentum L and the spin angular momentum S coupling scheme (LS coupling) and high-order correction of the effective potential to the level shift. The fine structure splitting (N=5-12, L=4-9, J=L±1/2) and level intervals in Rydberg states have been calculated by the above-mentioned formula and compared with recent experimental data.  相似文献

The influence on the short-range packing in dipolar fluids by molecular shape and by additional higher order electrostatic moments has been investigated by molecular dynamic simulations. The dipole polarization was found to decrease as the particles were elongated parallel to the dipole and to increase for elongation perpendicular to the dipole, eventually forming a nematic order. The addition of a quadrupole lead to a reduction of the polarization, and the influence of an axial octupole was weaker and more complex. Both a decrease and an increase of the polarization is possible depending on the relative dipole–dipole and octupole–octupole interaction strengths and the relative direction of the symmetry axes of the moments. These observations were attributed to the different parity of a dipole and a quadrupole and the same parity of a dipole and an axial octupole under reflection. In addition, further insights into the formation of dipole polarization were obtained. Short polar and long equatorial radii and strong dipole–dipole interaction are particle properties that promote a fluid with a high dipole polarization.  相似文献

Negative-parity excited states of doubly even nuclei have earlier been attributed to vibrational excitations. This paper shows that an interpretation starting from a reflection asymmetric intrinsic state is more appropriate for certain nuclei in the radium region. Theoretical evidence for stable octupole deformation comes from a deformed shell-model calculation in which we use a single-particle potential with a realistic radial shape and a finite-range interaction for the surface energy. The octupole effect systematically improves the agreement between theoretical and experimental masses. The low-lying O+ excitations observed in experiment are compatible with the calculated collective octupole potentials. The possibility of obtaining further evidence from the spectroscopy of odd-mass nuclei is considered in an exactly solvable model, which shows that the smaller energy splitting observed in odd-A parity doublets mainly reflects single-particle fragmentation of the collective mode. The systematics of theoretical shell structure and experimental spectroscopy suggests the presence of other regions of octupole collectivity near the limits of stability.  相似文献

The giant dipole resonance at large angular velocities and finite temperatures is studied within the framwork of temperature-dependent linear response theory for superfluid Fermi liquids. The peak energy of the resonance and its splitting is discussed as a function of angular momentum and temperature. We propose that the existence of local orbital angular momentum (OAM) on the surfaces of high-Z materials plays a crucial role in the formation of Rashba-type surface band splitting. Local OAM state in a Bloch wave function produces an asymmetric charge distribution (electric dipole). The surface-normal electric field then aligns the electric dipole and results in chiral OAM states and the relevant Rashba-type splitting. Therefore, the band splitting originates from electric dipole interaction, not from the relativistic Zeeman splitting as proposed in the original Rashba picture. The characteristic spin chiral structure of Rashba states is formed through the spin-orbit coupling and thus is a secondary effect to the chiral OAM. Results from first-principles calculations on a single Bi layer under an external electric field verify the key predictions of the new model.  相似文献

We study the interaction of light beams carrying angular momentum with a single, trapped and well localized ion. We provide a detailed calculation of selection rules and excitation probabilities for quadrupole transitions. The results show the dependencies on the angular momentum and polarization of the laser beam as well as the direction of the quantization magnetic field. In order to optimally observe the specific effects, focusing the angular momentum beam close to the diffraction limit is required. We discuss a protocol for examining experimentally the effects on the S1/2 to D5/2 transition using a 40Ca+ ion. Various applications and advantages are expected when using light carrying angular momentum: in quantum information processing, where qubit states of ion crystals are controlled, parasitic light shifts could be avoided as the ion is excited in the dark zone of the beam at zero electric field amplitude. Such interactions also open the door to high dimensional entanglement between light and matter. In spectroscopy one might access transitions which have escaped excitation so far due to vanishing transition dipole moments.  相似文献

An angular momentum projected particle-hole theory is proposed as an approach to describe excited states of deformed nuclei. Both for the ground and the excited states, angular momentum projections are done before variation. This allows one to look for the effect, with an appropriate constraint, of the difference in the deformations of these states. The theory is applied to the case of Ne20 where the splitting of the giant resonance is observed. Other negative parity states are also studied and their transitions to the 2+ member of the ground state band show interesting features which may have experimental implications. On the other hand, the change in the deformation of the excited states has only a small effect on the transition probabilities.  相似文献

A rotational model based on a simultaneous analysis of parity splitting and the alignment of the angular momentum is developed to describe high-spin negative-parity states. A simple formula for the energy of these states is proposed. It is shown that negative-parity states exhibit alignment, provided that the ground-state band is aligned and that the two opposite-parity bands can be considered as a single alternating-parity band.  相似文献

In the interaction of molecules with light endowed with orbital angular momentum, an exchange of orbital angular momentum in an electric dipole transition occurs only between the light and the center of mass motion; i.e., internal "electronic-type" motion does not participate in any exchange of orbital angular momentum in a dipole transition. A quadrupole transition is the lowest electric multipolar process in which an exchange of orbital angular momentum can occur between the light, the internal motion, and the center of mass motion. This rules out experiments seeking to observe exchange of orbital angular momentum between light beams and the internal motion in electric dipole transitions.  相似文献

Plasmonic interactions between an asymmetrically coated core–shell (ACCS) nanoparticle and an optical vortex produce a novel engagement of the spin angular momentum (SAM) and the orbital angular momentum (OAM) of the input. Simulations based on a discrete dipole approximation (DDA) indicate that the SAM and the OAM of the incident beam determine the modal order of resonance, correctly identifying the peak wavelength, and both the direction and magnitude of optical torque exerted upon the excited, localized plasmon resonance in the ACCS particle. These simulations also indicate higher-order resonances, including hexapole and octupole modes, and a zero-order resonance (expressible as a monopole mode), can be excited by judicious selection of the SAM and OAM. A detailed symmetry analysis shows how the multipoles associated with eigenmode excitations connect to the radiation multipoles at the heart of the multipole expansion. It is also shown how additional, distorted resonance modes due to the asymmetricity of the structure are also exhibited. These specific plasmonic characteristics, which cannot be realized by plane wave excitation, become possible through the ACCS asymmetry engaging with the distinct optical vortex nature of the excitation.  相似文献

Based on the Noether's theorem, we develop systematically and rigorously the spin-dependent formulation of the conservation laws. The effect of the electronic polarization due to the spin-orbit coupling is included in the Maxwell equations. The polarization is related to the antisymmetric components of spin current, and it provides a possibility to measure the spin current directly. The variances of spin and orbit angular momentum currents imply a torque on the "electric dipole" associated with the moving electron. The dependencies of the torque on the polarization and the force on the motions of spin-polarized electrons in a two-dimensional electron gas with the Rashba spin-orbit coupling are discussed.  相似文献
