A water-soluble manganese porphyrin, 5,10,15,20-tetrakis-(1,3-dimethylimidazolium-2-yl)porphyrinatomanganese(III) (Mn(III)TDMImP) is shown to react with H(2)O(2) to generate a relatively stable dioxomanganese(V) porphyrin complex (a compound I analog). Stopped-flow kinetic studies revealed Michaelis Menton-type saturation kinetics for H(2)O(2). The visible spectrum of a compound 0 type intermediate, assigned as Mn(III)(OH)(OOH)TDMImP, can be directly observed under saturating H(2)O(2) conditions (Soret band at 428 nm and Q bands at 545 and 578 nm). The rate-determining O-O heterolysis step was found to have a very small activation enthalpy (ΔH(≠) = 4.2 ± 0.2 kcal mol(-1)) and a large, negative activation entropy (ΔS(≠) = -36 ± 1 cal mol(-1) K(-1)). The O-O bond cleavage reaction was pH independent at 8.8 < pH < 10.4 with a first-order rate constant of 66 ± 12 s(-1). These observations indicate that the O-O bond in Mn(III)(OH)(OOH)TDMImP is cleaved via a concerted "push-pull" mechanism. In the transition state, the axial (proximal) (-)OH is partially deprotonated ("push"), while the terminal oxygen in (-)OOH is partially protonated ("pull") as a water molecule is released to the medium. This mechanism is reminiscent of O-O bond cleavage in heme enzymes, such as peroxidases and cytochrome P450, and similar to the fast, reversible O-Br bond breaking and forming reaction mediated by similar manganese porphyrins. The small enthalpy of activation suggests that this O-O bond cleavage could also be made reversible.  相似文献

The reactions of [Ru(III)(edta)(H(2)O)](-) (1) (edta = ethylenediaminetetraacetate) with tert-butylhydroperoxide ((t)BuOOH) and potassium hydrogenpersulfate (KHSO(5)) were studied kinetically as a function of oxidant concentration and temperature (10-30 degrees C) at a fixed pH of 6.1 using stopped-flow techniques. Kinetic results were analyzed by using global kinetic analysis techniques. The reaction was found to consist of two steps involving the rapid formation of a [Ru(III)(edta)(OOR)](2-) intermediate, which subsequently undergoes heterolytic cleavage to form [(edta)Ru(V)=O](-). Since [(edta)Ru(V)=O](-) was produced almost quantitatively in the reaction of 1 with the hydroperoxides (t)BuOOH and KHSO(5), the common mechanism is one of heterolytic scission of the O-O bond. The water soluble and easy to oxidize substrate 2,2'-azobis(3-ethylbenzithiazoline-6-sulfonate (ABTS), was employed to substantiate the mechanistic proposal. Reactions were carried out under pseudo-first order conditions for [ABTS] > [hydroperoxide] > [1], and were monitored as a function of time for the formation of the one-electron oxidation product ABTS (*+). The detailed suggested mechanism is consistent with the reported rate and activation parameters, and discussed in reference to the results reported for the reaction of [Ru(II)(edta)(H(2)O)](-) with H(2)O(2).  相似文献

We report in this study on the first electrochemical evidence of existence of an oxomanganese(V) porphyrin complex, formed upon the reaction of the manganese meso-tetrakis-(2,3,5,6-tetrafluoro-N,N,N-trimethyl-4-aniliniumyl) porphyrin (noted Mn(TF4TMPA) with hydrogen peroxide in 50 mM borate buffer aqueous solution (pH 10.5) at 0 °C. The obtained results bring a clear insight into the previously reported and suggested formation of such an intermediate during the electroassisted reaction of manganese porphyrins or Schiff bases and molecular oxygen in various conditions, as enzyme mimetic.  相似文献

The acidity (pull) and the axial ligand (push) effects on the O-O bond cleavage in the [(Salen)Mn(III)(RCO(3))L] acylperoxo complexes, with model L = none, NH(3), and HCO(2)(-) (1), have been studied with B3LYP density functional calculations. The acidic conditions have been mimicked by explicit protonation of 1 to afford a variety of [(Salen)Mn(III)(RCO(3)H)L] (2) and [(SalenH)Mn(III)(RCO(3))L] (3) complexes in ground quintet states. The protonation assists the O-O bond heterolysis, thus primarily forming highly reactive Mn(V)(O) species, and consequently suppresses formation of the less reactive Mn(IV)(O) species through homolytic channel described earlier in 1 [Khavrutskii, I. V.; Rahim, R. R.; Musaev, D. G.; Morokuma, K. J. Phys. Chem. B 2004, 108, 3845-3854]. In addition to the qualitative change of the O-O bond cleavage mode, the protonation affects the rate of the O-O bond cleavage. Therefore, varying the acidity of the reaction media helps control the O-O bond cleavage mode and rate.  相似文献

The reactions of manganese(III) porphyrin complexes with terminal oxidants, such as m-chloroperbenzoic acid, iodosylarenes, and H(2)O(2), produced high-valent manganese(V)-oxo porphyrins in the presence of base in organic solvents at room temperature. The manganese(V)-oxo porphyrins have been characterized with various spectroscopic techniques, including UV-vis, EPR, 1H and 19F NMR, resonance Raman, and X-ray absorption spectroscopy. The combined spectroscopic results indicate that the manganese(V)-oxo porphyrins are diamagnetic low-spin (S = 0) species with a longer, weaker Mn-O bond than in previously reported Mn(V)-oxo complexes of non-porphyrin ligands. This is indicative of double-bond character between the manganese(V) ion and the oxygen atom and may be attributed to the presence of a trans axial ligand. The [(Porp)Mn(V)=O](+) species are stable in the presence of base at room temperature. The stability of the intermediates is dependent on base concentration. In the absence of base, (Porp)Mn(IV)=O is generated instead of the [(Porp)Mn(V)=O](+) species. The stability of the [(Porp)Mn(V)=O](+) species also depends on the electronic nature of the porphyrin ligands: [(Porp)Mn(V)=O](+) complexes bearing electron-deficient porphyrin ligands are more stable than those bearing electron-rich porphyrins. Reactivity studies of manganese(V)-oxo porphyrins revealed that the intermediates are capable of oxygenating PPh(3) and thioanisoles, but not olefins and alkanes at room temperature. These results indicate that the oxidizing power of [(Porp)Mn(V)=O](+) is low in the presence of base. However, when the [(Porp)Mn(V)=O](+) complexes were associated with iodosylbenzene in the presence of olefins and alkanes, high yields of oxygenated products were obtained in the catalytic olefin epoxidation and alkane hydroxylation reactions. Mechanistic aspects, such as oxygen exchange between [(Porp)Mn(V)=16O](+) and H(2)(18)O, are also discussed.  相似文献

The Ru(III)(edta)/H(2)O(2) system (edta(4-) = ethylenediaminetretaacetate) was found to degrade the azo-dye Orange II at remarkably high efficiency under ambient conditions. Catalytic degradation of the dye was studied by using rapid-scan spectrophotometry as a function of [H(2)O(2)], [Orange II] and pH. Spectral analyses and kinetic data point towards a catalytic pathway involving the rapid formation of [Ru(III)(edta)(OOH)](2-) followed by the immediate subsequent degradation of Orange II prior to the conversion of [Ru(III)(edta)(OOH)](2-) to [Ru(IV)(edta)(OH)](-) and [Ru(V)(edta)(O)](-)via homolysis and heterolysis of the O-O bond, respectively. The higher oxidation state Ru(IV) and Ru(V) complexes react three orders of magnitude slower with Orange II than the Ru(III)-hydroperoxo complex. In comparison to biological oxygen transfer reactions, the Ru(edta) complexes show the reactivity order Compound 0 ? Compounds I and II.  相似文献

The synthesis and characterization of an oxomanganese(V) corrolazine, (TBP)8(Cz)Mn(V)O (2), are reported. This remarkably stable high-valent complex is obtained from the stoichiometric reaction of (TBP)8(Cz)Mn(III) (1) with m-CPBA and is easily purified by standard chromatographic methods on silica gel at room temperature. Complex 2 exhibits a diamagnetic 1H NMR spectrum indicative of a low-spin d2 Mn(V)O species. LDI-TOFMS of 2 shows the predicted isotopic envelope at m/z 1426.8. This envelope shifts to higher mass as expected after the facile exchange of the terminal oxo group with H218O. The resonance Raman spectrum of 2 either in solution or in the solid state shows a strongly enhanced Raman band for the stretching mode of the Mn-oxo bond, which also shifts as expected upon 18O substitution: 2(16O), 979 cm-1; 2(18O), 938 cm-1 (in CH2Cl2). Initial reactivity studies show that 2 rapidly transfers the terminal oxo ligand to PPh3, resulting in the quantitative formation of OPPh3 and concomitant reduction of 2 back to 1. Complex 2 is the first example of an oxomanganese(V)-porphyrinoid complex that can be isolated at room temperature.  相似文献

The stability of the peroxide ligand bridging two manganese ions in the trinuclear oxomanganese complex [Mn(III)(3)(mu(3)-O)(mu-O(2))(AcO)(2)(dien)(3)](2+), one of only two structurally characterized Mn clusters possessing a mu(1,2)-peroxo bridge, has been investigated using density functional theory. Although the peroxide O-O bond in the related bis(mu-oxo)-bridged complex [Mn(IV)(2)(mu-O)(2)(mu-O(2))(NH(3))(6)](2+) undergoes spontaneous cleavage upon two-electron reduction to the Mn(III)(2) dimer, calculations on the model complexes [Mn(III)(2)(mu-O)(mu-O(2))(NH(3))(8)](2+) and [Mn(III)(2)(mu-O)(mu-O(2))(NH(3))(6)(H(2)O)(2)](2+), which contain the same mu-oxo-,mu-peroxo-bridged core present in the trimer, indicate that the peroxide bridge remains intact, in agreement with experiment. Its stability can be attributed to a Jahn-Teller distortion resulting in elongation of the axial Mn-N bonds perpendicular to the Mn(2)(mu-O)(mu-O(2)) plane which in turn stabilizes the high-spin Mn(III) oxidation state. However, the difference in the energies of the bridged and cleaved peroxide structures is small (ca. 0.5 eV), the lowest energy structure depending on the nature of the terminal ligands. Calculations on the model trimer complex [Mn(III)(3)(mu(3)-O)(mu-O(2))(HCO(2))(2)(NH(3))(9)](2+) indicate that the energetic differences between the cleaved and uncleaved structures is even smaller (ca. 0.2 eV), and although the peroxo-bridge remains more or less intact, it is likely to be quite facile.  相似文献

Density functional theory using the B3LYP hybrid functional has been employed to investigate the reactivity of Fe(TPA) complexes (TPA = tris(2-pyridylmethyl)amine), which are known to catalyze stereospecific hydrocarbon oxidation when H(2)O(2) is used as oxidant. The reaction pathway leading to O-O bond heterolysis in the active catalytic species Fe(III)(TPA)-OOH has been explored, and it is shown that a high-valent iron-oxo intermediate is formed, where an Fe(V) oxidation state is attained, in agreement with previous suggestions based on experiments. In contrast to the analogous intermediate [(Por.)Fe(IV)=O](+1) in P450, the TPA ligand is not oxidized, and the electrons are extracted almost exclusively from the mononuclear iron center. The corresponding homolytic O-O bond cleavage, yielding the two oxidants Fe(IV)=O and the OH. radical, has also been considered, and it is shown that this pathway is inaccessible in the hydrocarbon oxidation reaction with Fe(TPA) and hydrogen peroxide. Investigations have also been performed for the O-O cleavage in the Fe(III)(TPA)-alkylperoxide species. In this case, the barrier for O-O homolysis is found to be slightly lower, leading to loss of stereospecificity and supporting the experimental conclusion that this is the preferred pathway for alkylperoxide oxidants. The difference between hydroperoxide and alkylperoxide as oxidant derives from the higher O-O bond strength for hydrogen peroxide (by 8.0 kcal/mol).  相似文献

Described here is the application of oxygen isotope fractionation together with computational methods, to elucidate a mechanism of enzymatic H2O2 activation. Horseradish peroxidase (HRP) has been the subject of intensive experimental and computational studies, yet questions remain as to the reversibility of the O-O cleavage step. New insight is afforded by the competitive oxygen kinetic isotope effect (18O KIE) upon H2O2 consumption determined under turnover conditions. The 18O KIE is compared to isotope effects calculated for the O-O heterolysis transition state and potential intermediates using density functional theory. In addition, experiments in enriched water provide evidence for HRP-catalyzed scrambling of the 18O label into the unreacted H2O2. The results provide an unprecedented view of H2O2 activation by a heme peroxidase and challenge the assumption of rate-limiting O-O heterolysis.  相似文献

Tetra(p-sulfonato-phenyl) porphyrin rhodium hydride ([(TSPP)Rh-D(D2O)](-4)) (1) reacts in water (D2O) with carbon monoxide, aldehydes, and olefins to produce metallo formyl, alpha-hydroxyalkyl, and alkyl complexes, respectively. The hydride complex (1) functions as a weak acid in D2O and partially dissociates into a rhodium(I) complex ([(TSPP)Rh(I)(D2O)](-5)) and a proton (D+). Fast substrate reactions of 1 in D2O compared to reactions of rhodium porphyrin hydride ((por)Rh-H) in benzene are ascribed to aqueous media promoting formation of ions and supporting ionic reaction pathways. The regioselectivity for addition of 1 to olefins is predominantly anti-Markovnikov in acidic D2O and exclusively anti-Markovnikov in basic D2O. The range of accessible equilibrium thermodynamic measurements for rhodium hydride substrate reactions is substantially increased in water compared to that in organic media through exploiting the hydrogen ion dependence for the equilibrium distribution of species in aqueous media. Thermodynamic measurements are reported for reactions of a rhodium porphyrin hydride in water with each of the substrates, including CO, H2CO, CH3CHO, CH2=CH2, and sets of aldehydes and olefins. Reactions of rhodium porphyrin hydrides with CO and aldehydes have nearly equal free-energy changes in water and benzene, but alkene reactions that form hydrophobic alkyl groups are substantially less favorable in water than in benzene. Bond dissociation free energies in water are derived from thermodynamic results for (TSPP)Rh-organo complexes in aqueous solution for Rh-CDO, Rh-CH(R)OD, and Rh-CH2CH(D)R units and are compared with related values determined in benzene.  相似文献

We have shown previously that iodosylbenzene-iron(III) porphyrin intermediates (2) are generated in the reactions of oxoiron(IV) porphyrin pi-cation radicals (1) and iodobenzene (PhI), that 1 and 2 are at equilibrium in the presence of PhI, and that the epoxidation of olefins by 2 affords high yields of epoxide products. In the present work, we report detailed mechanistic studies on the nature of the equilibrium between 1 and 2 in the presence of iodoarenes (ArI), the determination of reactive species responsible for olefin epoxidation when two intermediates (i.e., 1 and 2) are present in a reaction solution, and the fast oxygen exchange between 1 and H(2)18O in the presence of ArI. In the first part, we have provided strong evidence that 1 and 2 are indeed at equilibrium and that the equilibrium is controlled by factors such as the electronic nature of iron porphyrins, the electron richness of ArI, and the concentration of ArI. Secondly, we have demonstrated that 1 is the sole active oxidant in olefin epoxidation when 1 and 2 are present concurrently in a reaction solution. Finally, we have shown that the presence of ArI in a reaction solution containing 1 and H(2)18O facilitates the oxygen exchange between the oxo group of 1 and H(2)18O and that the oxygen exchange is markedly influenced by factors such as ArI incubation time, the amounts of ArI and H(2)18O used, and the electronic nature of ArI. The latter results are rationalized by the formation of an undetectable amount of 2 from the reaction of 1 and ArI through equilibrium that leads to a fast oxygen exchange between 2 and H(2)18O.  相似文献

The report uses density functional theory to address the mechanism of heme degradation by the enzyme heme oxygenase (HO) using a model ferric hydroperoxide complex. HO is known to trap heme molecules and degrade them to maintain iron homeostasis in the biosystem. The degradation is initiated by complexation of the heme, then formation of the iron-hydroperoxo species, which subsequently oxidizes the meso position of the porphyrin by hydroxylation, thereby enabling eventually the cleavage of the porphyrin ring. Kinetic isotope effect studies indicate that the mechanism is assisted by general acid catalysis, via a chain of water molecules, and that all the events occur in concert. However, previous theoretical treatments indicated that the concerted mechanism has a high barrier, much higher than an alternative mechanism that is initiated by O-O bond homolysis of iron-hydroperoxide. The present contribution studies the stepwise and concerted acid-catalyzed mechanisms using H(3)O(+)(H(2)O)(n)(), n = 0-2. The effect of the acid strength is tested using the H(4)N(+)(H(2)O)(2) cluster and a fully protonated ferric hydroperoxide. All the calculations show that a stepwise mechanism that involves proton relay and O-O homolysis, in the rate-determining step, has a much lower barrier (>10 kcal/mol) than the corresponding fully concerted mechanism. The best fit of the calculated solvent kinetic isotope effect, to the experimental data, is obtained for the H(3)O(+)(H(2)O)(2) cluster. The calculated alpha-deuterium secondary kinetic isotope effect is inverse (0.95-0.98), but much less so than the experimental value (0.7). Possible reasons for this quantitative difference are discussed. Some probes are suggested that may enable experiment to distinguish the stepwise from the concerted mechanism.  相似文献

Immobilisation of both palladium(II) meso-tetrakis(N-methyl-4-pyridyl)porphyrin (PdTMPyP4+) and iron(III) meso-tetrakis(2,6-dichlorophenyl)porphyrin (FeTDCPP+) in the same membrane of Nafion creates a new composite system, in which the photoexcited palladium complex induces the O2-mediated oxidation of cyclohexene to the corresponding allylic hydroperoxide and the iron porphyrin works as a catalyst for specific oxygenations of cyclohexene and cyclooctene. The role of PdTMPyP4+ is to induce the photoactivation of O2 with visible light (lambda > 500 nm) to generate singlet oxygen (1O2) by means of energy transfer from the excited triplet state. Consequently, the 1O2-mediated oxidation of cyclohexene to cyclohexenyl hydroperoxide can be realised with a selectivity greater than 90%. Spectroscopic and photophysical investigations show that the tetracationic palladium porphyrin is mainly fixed to the external part of the Nafion membrane, it is characterised by a triplet-state lifetime significantly higher than that in the solution phase. The monocationic FeTDCPP+ is able to diffuse into the anionic cavities of Nafion, where it works as a catalyst for O2-mediated autooxidation processes that are initiated by the photogenerated hydroperoxides. These processes continue in the dark for many hours giving cyclohex-2-en-1-ol and trans-cyclohexane-1,2-diol monoethyl ether as main oxidation products. The presence of this ether, indirectly, reveals the formation of cyclohexene epoxide which undergoes a nucleophilic attack by ethanol and epoxide opening because of the strong acidic environment inside Nafion. The good photocatalytic efficiency of the oxidation process is demonstrated by an overall quantum yield of 1.1, as well as by a turnover value of 4.7 x 10(3) with respect to the iron porphyrin. When cyclooctene is present as co-substrate, it also undergoes oxygenation. In contrast to what was observed for cyclohexene, cyclooctene epoxide can be accumulated in a significant amount. As far as the stability of the system is concerned, FeTDCPP+ undergoes about 1% degradation during the process, while the Nafion matrix can be utilised several times without observable modification.  相似文献

The new, monometal substituted silicotungstates [Mn(H(2)O)(2)(gamma-SiW(10)O(35))(2)](10-) (1), [Co(H(2)O)(2)(gamma-SiW(10)O(35))(2)](10-) (2) and [Ni(H(2)O)(2)(gamma-SiW(10)O(35))(2)](10-) (3) have been synthesized and isolated as the potassium salts K(10)[Mn(H(2)O)(2)(gamma-SiW(10)O(35))(2)] x 8.25 H(2)O (K-1), K(10)[Co(H(2)O0(2)(gamma-SiW(10)O(35))(2)] x 8.25 H(2)O (K-2) and K(10)[Ni(H(2)O)(2)(gamma-SiW(10)O(35))(2)] x 13.5 H(2)O (K-3), which have been characterized by IR spectroscopy, single crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis and cyclic voltammetry. Polyanions 1-3 are composed of two (gamma-SiW(10)O(36)) units fused on one side via two W-O-W' bridges and on the other side by an octahedrally coordinated trans-MO(4)(OH(2))(2) transition metal fragment, resulting in a structure with C(2v) point group symmetry. Anions 1-3 were synthesized by reaction of the dilacunary precursor [gamma-SiW(10)O(36)](8-) with Mn(2+), Co(2+) and Ni(2+) ions, respectively, in 1 M KCl solution at pH 4.5. The electrochemical properties of 1-3 were studied by cyclic voltammetry and controlled potential coulometry in a pH 5 buffer medium. The waves associated with the W-centers are compared with each other and with those of the parent lacunary precursor [gamma-SiW(10)O(36)](8-) in the same medium. They appear to be dominated by the acid-base properties of the intermediate reduced species. A facile merging of the waves for 3 is observed while those for 1 and 2 remain split. Controlled potential coulometry of the single wave of 3 or the combined waves of 1 and 2 is accompanied by catalysis of the hydrogen evolution reaction. No redox activity was detected for the Ni(2+) center in 3, whereas the Co(2+) center in 2 shows a one-electron redox process. The two-electron, chemically reversible process of the Mn(2+) center in 1 is accompanied by a film deposition on the electrode surface.  相似文献

Side-on eta2-peroxo-iron porphyrins are strong nucleophiles. In cytochrome P450-like aromatase and other enzymes, such species are postulated as the active oxidants. In cytochrome c oxidase, hemea3-peroxo, hemea3-hydroperoxo, or hemea3-(mu-peroxo)-copper species are proposed as transient intermediates forming prior to O-O bond cleavage. In this report, we describe (1) a facile method for reduction of a heme-O2 species [(F8TPP)FeIII(O2-)(S)] (2), generating the ferric peroxo porphyrin complex [(F8TPP)FeIII(O22-)]- (3) (UV-vis, THF: lambdamax = 435 (Soret), 540(sh), 561; EPR: g = 8.7, 4.2), and (2) that this can be subsequently reacted with a ligand-copper(II) complex, [CuII(TMPA)-(CH3CN)](ClO4)2 (4), affording a heme-peroxo-copper heterobinuclear compound, [(F8TPP)FeII(O22-)-CuII(TMPA)](ClO4) (5). Generation of [(F8TPP)FeIII(O22-)]- (3) using cobaltocene as a one-electron reductant was monitored by UV-vis, EPR, and 1H NMR spectroscopies. Reaction between 3 and 4 was followed by UV-vis spectroscopy, and the product 5 could be precipitated and characterized. Coordination by copper(II) in 5 makes possible further reduction of the mu-peroxo complex by cobaltocene yielding the mu-oxo analogue, [(F8TPP)FeIII(O2-)-CuII(TMPA)](ClO4) (6).  相似文献

We present the synthesis and structural characterization, assessed by various techniques (FTIR, TGA, UV-vis, elemental analysis, single-crystal X-ray diffraction for three compounds, magnetic susceptibility, and electrochemistry) of five manganese-containing Wells-Dawson sandwich-type (WDST) complexes. The dimanganese(II)-containing complex, [Na(2)(H(2)O)(2)Mn(II)(2)(As(2)W(15)O(56))(2)](18-) (1), was obtained by reaction of MnCl(2) with 1 equiv of [As(2)W(15)O(56)](12-) in acetate medium (pH 4.7). Oxidation of 1 by Na(2)S(2)O(8) in aqueous solution led to the dimanganese(III) complex [Na(2)(H(2)O)(2)Mn(III)(2)(As(2)W(15)O(56))(2)](16-) (2), while its trimanganese(II) homologue, [Na(H(2)O)(2)Mn(II)(H(2)O)Mn(II)(2)(As(2)W(15)O(56))(2)](17-) (3), was obtained by addition of ca. 1 equiv of MnCl(2) to a solution of 1 in 1 M NaCl. The trimanganese(III) and tetramanganese(III) counterparts, [Mn(III)(H(2)O)Mn(III)(2)(As(2)W(15)O(56))(2)](15-) (4) and [Mn(III)(2)(H(2)O)(2)Mn(III)(2)(As(2)W(15)O(56))(2)](12-) (6), are, respectively, obtained by oxidation of aqueous solutions of 3 and [Mn(II)(2)(H(2)O)(2)Mn(II)(2)(As(2)W(15)O(56))(2)](16-) (5) by Na(2)S(2)O(8). Single-crystal X-ray analyses were carried out on 2, 3, and 4. BVS calculations and XPS confirmed that the oxidation state of Mn centers is +II for complexes 1, 3, and 5 and +III for 2, 4, and 6. A complete comparative electrochemical study was carried out on the six compounds cited above, and it was possible to observe the distinct redox steps Mn(IV/III) and Mn(III/II). Magnetization measurements, as a function of temperature, confirm the presence of antiferromagnetic interactions between the Mn ions in these compounds in all cases with the exception of compound 2.  相似文献

We have recently proposed a mechanism for the epoxidation of cyclooctene by H2O2 catalyzed by iron(III) [tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)]porphyrin chloride, (F20TPP)FeCl, in solvent containing methanol [Stephenson, N. A.; Bell, A.T. Inorg. Chem. 2006, 45, 2758-2766]. In that study, we found that catalysis did not occur unless (F20TPP)FeCl first dissociated, a process facilitated by the solvation of the Cl- anion by methanol and the coordination of methanol to the (F20TPP)Fe+ cation. Methanol as well as other alcohols was also found to facilitate the heterolytic cleavage of the O-O bond of H2O2 coordinated to the (F20TPP)Fe+ cation via a generalized acid mechanism. In the present study, we have shown that catalytic activity of the (F20TPP)Fe+ cation can be achieved in aprotic solvent by displacing the tightly bound chloride anion with a weakly bound triflate anion. By working in an aprotic solvent, acetonitrile, it was possible to determine the rate of heterolytic O-O bond cleavage in coordinated H2O2 unaffected by the interaction of the peroxide with methanol. A mechanism is proposed for this system and is shown to be valid over a range of reaction conditions. The mechanisms for cyclooctene epoxidation and H2O2 decomposition for the aprotic and protic solvent systems are similar with the only difference being the mechanism of proton-transfer prior to heterolytic cleavage of the oxygen-oxygen bond of coordinated hydrogen peroxide. Comparison of the rate parameters indicates that the utilization of hydrogen peroxide for cyclooctene epoxidation is higher in a protic solvent than in an aprotic solvent and results in a smaller extent of porphyrin degradation due to free radical attack. It was also shown that water can coordinate to the iron porphyrin cation in aprotic systems resulting in catalyst deactivation; this effect was not observed when methanol was present, since methanol was found to displace all of the coordinated water.  相似文献

Reaction of [Ni(II)(cyclam)(CH(3)CN)(2)](ClO(4))(2) (1) with tert-butylhydroperoxide (TBHP) or H(2)O(2), in acidic media results in a formation of [Ni(III)(cyclam)(CH(3)CN)(2)](3+) species (2), the nature of which is characterized by UV-vis, EPR and XPS. The formation rate of 2 is much higher when H(2)O(2) is used as oxidant. In absence of acid, TBHP reacts with 1 generating the same Ni(III) species but, in contrast, no reaction is observed between H(2)O(2) and 1. Addition of cis-stilbene as an oxidable substrate quenches the formation of Ni(III) for reaction with H(2)O(2) only. Overall, these observations reveal a different reaction mechanism when reacting H(2)O(2) with 1 than when reacting the same metal complex with TBHP, despite the fact that the final product is the same. The proposed pathways arising from these observations consist in a homolytic O-O cleavage for the reaction of 1 with TBHP in CH(3)CN, but a proton assisted heterolysis for the O-O activation in H(2)O(2). Density functional calculations (B3LYP and OPBE) on the thermodynamic feasibility of the two reaction processes support the proposed mechanisms, since the O-O homolysis is strongly disfavored when H(2)O(2) is used as reactant.  相似文献

Oxygen isotope fractionation is applied for the first time to probe the catalytic oxidation of water using a widely studied ruthenium complex, [Ru(II)(tpy)(bpy)(H(2)O)](ClO(4))(2) (bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine; tpy = 2,2';6",2"-terpyridine). Competitive oxygen-18 kinetic isotope effects ((18)O KIEs) derived from the ratio of (16,16)O(2) to (16,18)O(2) formed from natural-abundance water vary from 1.0132 ± 0.0005 to 1.0312 ± 0.0004. Experiments were conducted with cerium(IV) salts at low pH and a photogenerated ruthenium(III) tris(bipyridine) complex at neutral pH as the oxidants. The results are interpreted within the context of catalytic mechanisms using an adiabatic formalism to ensure the highest barriers for electron-transfer and proton-coupled electron-transfer steps. In view of these contributions, O-O bond formation is predicted to be irreversible and turnover-limiting. The reaction with the largest (18)O KIE exhibits the greatest degree of O-O coupling in the transition state. Smaller (18)O KIEs are observed due to multiple rate-limiting steps or transition-state structures which do not involve significant O-O motion. These findings provide benchmarks for systematizing mechanisms of O-O bond formation, the critical step in water oxidation by natural and synthetic catalysts. In addition, the measurements introduce a new tool for calibrating computational studies using relevant experimental data.  相似文献
