A potential relaxation instability (PRI), which causes a periodic motion of a potential jump and plasma expansion accompanying a high-density fluctuation level (?60 percent), is observed in a bounded discharge plasma. The instability is found to create a high electron drift velocity and a spatial growth of density and potential fluctuations, and to accelerate a test wave. An additional supplement of a plasma into the boundary suppresses the instability. At the same time, the fluctuation decreases (<5 percent) and the frequency difference of the wave spectrum between nth and (n - 1) th (n is an integer) higher harmonics decreases as the frequency increases. However, when the potential relaxation instability is excited, this frequency difference keeps constant.  相似文献

In the paper we present the results of an investigation of a low frequency (30-100 kHz) instability in a weakly magnetized discharge plasma. The instability is triggered by a disc electrode which terminates the magnetized plasma column and is biased above the plasma potential. Frequency dependence on various parameters, e.g. electrode diameter, electrode bias, neutral gas pressure and plasma density is measured. Space and time dependence of the plasma potential and density in the perturbed region during one period of the electrode current oscillation are measured. During the phase of the current decrease a potential structure moves in axial direction from the edge of the perturbed region towards the electrode. During the phase of current saturation the motion of ions is mostly radial. The observed phenomenon is approximately modeled as a two dimensional potential relaxation instability (PRI).  相似文献

The nonlinear propagation of electrostatic excitations and their multi-dimensional instability in a magnetized, degenerate electron-positron-ion(EPI) plasma system(containing inertial cold positrons, relativistic degenerate electrons and hot positrons, and negatively charged immobile heavy ions) are theoretically investigated. The reductive perturbation method is employed to derive the Zakharov–Kuznetsov equation which admits a localized solitary wave solution for small but finite amplitude limit, and the multi-dimensional instability of the positron acoustic solitary waves(PASWs) is studied by the small-k perturbation expansion method. It is found that the basic characteristics(viz. phase speed, amplitude, width) of the PASWs are significantly affected by the degree of obliqueness, relativistic degeneracy,and plasma particle number densities. The instability criterion and its growth rate, which are depending on the magnetic field and the propagation directions of both the PASWs, and their perturbation modes are discussed. The present analysis can be helpful in understanding the nonlinear phenomenon in dense astrophysical as well as space plasma systems,especially in pulsar environments.  相似文献

Experimental results are presented on the nonlinear effects related to the simultaneous excitation of three low‐frequency instabilities in the magnetized plasma column of a Q‐machine, namely the potential relaxation instability, the electrostatic ion‐cyclotron instability and the Kelvin‐Helmholtz instability. The weakly relativistic regime of propagation of a short and intense laser pulse in the magnetized plasma is investigated. By considering relativistic nonlinearity and using non‐linear Schrödinger equation with paraxial approximation, two second‐order coupled differential equations are obtained for the longitudinal pulse width parameter (in time) and for the transverse pulse width parameter (in space). The simultaneous evolution of spot size and length of a relativistic Gaussian laser pulse in a magnetized plasma can be calculated by the numerical solution of the equations. The effect of magnetic field is investigated. It is observed that in the presence of magnetic field both the self‐compression and the self‐focusing can be enhanced. Furthermore, the interplay between the longitudinal self‐compression and the transverse self‐focusing in a magnetized plasma is investigated. (© 2016 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. The plasma region under investigation is separated from the discharge region by a mesh grid. Plasma potential and electron number densities and electron temperatures under bi‐Maxwellian approximation for electron distribution function of the multi‐dipole argon plasma are measured. The cold electrons in the diffusion region are produced by local ionization. The hot electrons are the ionizing electrons behaving as Maxwellian. The electron trapping process in the discharge region is produced by potential well due to positive plasma potential with respect to the anode and by a repulsive grid. The dependence of ratios of the density of the hot to the cold electrons NE (=Neh/Nec) and hot to cold electron temperature T(=Teh/Tec) in the diffusion region on the depth of the potential well has been investigated. Measurements of fluctuations of plasma potential and electron temperature in a toroidal magnetized plasma is carried out by applying a cylindrical probe with insulating end plugs oriented parallel to the B‐field in conjunction with another cylindrical probe oriented perpendicularly. Coherency and cross‐phase between and are estimated, and typically have values close to 0.6 and π respectively. Power‐law spectra are found for frequencies well above the poloidal rotation frequency with spectral index typically around 4.0 for and around 2.5 for . The density gradient is above the threshold for flute interchange instability, and the results are consistent with theory and global numerical simulations of this plasma.  相似文献

It is experimentally demonstrated that a relatively strong ion-rich sheath formed at a fixed negative bias of the grid can be changed to a rather weak ion sheath (sheath potential weakly retards electrons) only by increasing the discharge voltage in the system. At sufficiently high negative grid bias, an increase of discharge voltage enhances the ion collection current at the grid. An explanation is put forward in support of this experimental observation. A slight density enhancement with a fall in plasma electron temperature is also observed with the increasing negative grid bias.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider charged accelerating AdS black holes with nonlinear electromagnetic source. The metric chosen by us is of a regular black hole, which shows regular nature at poles and a conical effect, which corresponds to a cosmic string. In such a space time construction of the Lagrangian for a charged particle is done. Cyclic coordinates as well as the corresponding symmetry generators, i.e., the Killing vectors are found. Conservation laws corresponding to the symmetries are counted. Euler-Lagrange equations are found. The orbit is mainly taken to be a circular one and effective potential is found. The minimum velocity obtained by a particle to escape from innermost stable circular orbit is found. The value of this escape velocity is plotted with respect to the radius of the event horizon of the central black hole for different parametric values. The nature of the escape velocity is studied when the central object is working with gravitational force and charge simultaneously. Effective potential and effective force are also plotted. The range of radius of event horizon for which the effective force turns to be positive is found out. A pathway of future studies of accretion disc around such black holes is made.  相似文献

The galvanic manifestation of two transformations of degenerate magnetic states of the neon atom, namely self‐alignment → non‐alignment and alignment ? orientation is studied by monitoring the voltage across the discharge in a range of hollow cathode discharge (HCD) lamps. The application of a magnetic field to the discharge disorders the self‐alignment. Alignment and orientation are optically induced and their effect on the discharge conductance is compared by measuring the optogalvanic signals. The degenerate states investigated are found to contribute to the gas discharge conductance in a manner which depends on their degree of coherence. Various hollow cathode discharge media are studied including Ne/As, Ne/Cu, Ne/Ni, Ne/Cd, Ne/Li and Ne/Ca in the corresponding trademarked HCD spectral lamps. (© 2015 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Standing cyclotron harmonic waves below the second harmonic are observed using the noise radiation of a mercury discharge tube at 1465 MHz. From the positions of the Buchsbaum-Hasegawa resonances the density profile and the electron temperature are derived, these parameters agree quite well with the behaviour of the collision-free, magnetized plasma column. A onedimensional model applicable to our waveguide geometry is developed taking into account linear excitation of cyclotron harmonic waves by a quasistationary external field in a bounded plasma. Absorption and excitation are controlled by the scale length L1 at the hybrid point and a coupling length lc, introduced by Eq. (20); the electron gyration radius rc, scale length L1, coupling length lc, and slab thickness 2a obeying the relation rc?lc?L1?2a. The main absorption is caused by enhanced collisional damping at the upper hybrid region and only a small fraction being dissipated in the wave mode, though its field strength is large compared with that at the plasma boundary (EW/E(a) ≈ 6). An estimation of the mean field strength within the coupling region shows, that such a low power as 1 mW/cm2 absorbed in the hybrid region may produce fieldstrength exceeding the typical threshold values for non-linear excitation mechanism.  相似文献

The properties of waves propagating in amagnetized dusty plasma are analyzed for both high andlow values of the ion-cyclotron frequency. The electronsare considered to be hot. The dispersion relation for a wave propagating through the dusty plasmaat an arbitrary angle with the external magnetic fieldis derived. This rectifies some errors in the earliertreatment of Cramer and Vladimirov (1996). Effects of the presence of the dust on thecharacteristics of wave propagation arediscussed.  相似文献

We consider nonlinear coupling of ion-cyclotron turbulence with low-frequency fast magneto-acoustic perturbations across the external magnetic field in a magnetized plasma. The investigation of the output of a He–Cd laser with electrically floating hollow electrodes shows that the discharge plasma instability plays an important role in the generation of the population inversion. The experimental evidence is presented and a qualitative interpretation is given by considering the plasma instability as equivalent to a radio frequency component of the discharge voltage.  相似文献

The effect of selective excitation of gold atoms in a nonequilibrium oxygen plasma of a combined glow discharge (CGD) has been revealed. When working with alumina oxide as a matrix where the content of aluminum is about 30 wt.%, the atomic lines of Al are not seen at all in the CGD spectrum. But the atomic lines of gold have a very high intensity. Even when the aluminum and gold atomic lines overlap, gold can be detected at a content of 10–7%. This effect has been registered both in synthetic and natural ore samples.  相似文献
