Cardenolides and coumarins ofCoronilla varia, C. cretica, etc.

Conclusions The cardenolide and coumarin composition ofC. varia L. and the closely related speciesC. hyrcana Pril.,C. cretica L., andC. orientalis Müll have been investigated. It has been shown that they all contain the cardiac glycoside hyrcanoside, with the exception ofC. orientalis, in which another, unidentified, glycoside, has also been found.A comparative study of some properties of hyrcanogenin (⁴-strophanthidin) and pachygenin (⁵-strophanthidin) connected with conformational features has been carried out.In the species studied, no less than five coumarins have been found of which umbelliferone, scopoletin, and daphnoretin have been isolated.Khimiya Prirodnykh Soedinenii, Vol. 5, No. 3, pp. 141–144, 1969

Syntheses of (4E,6E,11Z)-4,6,11-hexadecatrienyl acetate (1) and (4E,6E, 11Z)-4, 6,11-hexadecatrienal (2), female sex pheromones of eri-silkworm,Samia cynthia ricini have been achieved through Claisen ortho ester rearrangement of (6).     

A THEORETICAL TREATMENT OF THE SULFUR-CONTAINING ANALOGS OF CYCLOBUTADIENE,CYCLOOCTATETRAENE, BUTALENE,AND OCTALENE

Abstract

Several coordination complexes of cyclobutadiene (I) have been prepared (e.g., cyclobutadiene iron tricarbonyl [1]) and cyclooctatetraene (II) is a well-known compound (for a potentially planar form of cyclooctatetraene, see [2]). Although butalene [3] (III) has not been synthesized so far, octalene (IV) has been obtained by Vogel and co-workers [4,5]. Recently we have carried out a theoretical study of the physical and chemical properties of butalene (III) and octalene (IV), and of the various annelated butalenes and octalenes [6,7] using the HMO and SCF-MO (PPP) quantum-chemical methods as well as the structure-resonance theory and graph theoretical methods. Numerous theoretical data are available in the literature on cyclobutadiene (I) and cyclooctatetraene (II).     

Lipids of the leaf vegetables Spinacea oleracea,Latuca sativa,and Rumex acetosa

The class compositions of the lipids of leaf vegetables —Spinacea oleracea (variety Ispolinskii),Latuca sativa (variety Kucheryavets Odesskii), andRumex acetosa (variety Odesskii-17) have been studied. The compositions of their NLs (17 groups of individual compounds were identified), GLs (nine groups of compounds were found), and PhLs (seven groups of compounds have been found) have been determined by physicochemical methods of analysis. The maximum amount of the total lipids and also of the PhLs was possessed by the spinach. Among the FAs of the leaf vegetables, USFAs predominated.M. V. Duryne,a new cytotoxic agent from the marine sponge Cribrochalinadura

Duryne, 1, a cytotoxic metabolite which inhibits the growth of both mouse and human tumor cell lines invitro has been isolated from the marine sponge Cribrochalinadura. Its structure has been assigned by spectral methods.     

Synthesis of Bioactive Pyrethroid, 3-Phenoxybenzyl 1R-trans-2, 2-Dimethyl-3-(2-chloro-1-propenyl) Cyclopropanecarboxylate

The title compound 1 has been prepared from (+)-3-carene (2) and found to have the same order of activity as its IR-cis isomer 3 reported by us earlier¹ The key intermediate methyl IR-trans-2, 2-dimethyl-3-(2-oxopropyl)cyclopropanecarboxylate (4) has been characterised.     

The structures of vepridimerines A-D,four new dimeric prenylated quinolone alkaloids from Vepris lousii and Oricia renieri (Rutaceae)

Four new isomeric dimeric prenylated quinolone alkaloids, vepridimerines A-D, have been isolated from the bark of Vepris louisii and Oricia renieri (Rutaceae) and have been assigned structures (2)–(5) respectively on the basis of spectroscopic evidence, in particular¹H and¹³C n.m.r. data.     

Synthesis of 2-Aryl-1H-s-Triazolo[1, 5-a] Benzimidazoles

2-Aroylaminobenzimidazoles (2) have been converted into 1(2-benzimidazolyl)-5-aryl-1H-tetrazoles (4) by treatment with PCl₅ followed by azidation with NaN₃ in aqueous acetone solution. Pyrolysis of 4 in diphenylether yielded 2-aryl-1H-s-triazolo [1,5-a] benzimidazoles (6). The product of benzylation of 6a has been characterised. A reasonable pathway for the formation of 6 from 4 has been suggested.     

Coumarin composition of the roots, stems, and fruit of Prangos lophoptera

Summary The coumarin composition of the roots, stems, and fruit ofPrangos lophoptera has been studied; in addition to known coumarin derivatives two new compounds have been isolated and have been calledisogosferol (XIII) andlophopterol (XIV).On the basis of a study of the IR, mass, and NMR spectra, and chemical properties of the latter, the most probable structure of 6-(3-hydroxy-1,2-ethoxyisopentyl)-7-methoxycoumarin has been proposed for it.Leningrad Sanitary-Hygienic Medical Institute. REACTIONS OF DITHIOLETHIONES WITH N,N-DICHLOROAMIDES

Abstract

Dependent on the starting materials and the reaction conditions N,N-dichloroamides Cl₂N-X (X = COaryl, CO₂alkyl, SO₂aryl, SO₂N(alkyl)₂) react with dithiolethiones 1 and 5 to N-(dithiolyliden)amides 2, 6, S-(dithiolylidene)sulfimides 3, thionoxides 7 and dithiolones 4, 8. The mechanisms have been studied.     

The effect of sulfur and selenium substitutents on the regiochemistry of diels-alder reactions

2-Phenylthio-1,3-butadiene (1) and 2-phenylseleno-1,3-butadiene (2) have been generated in situ from their SO₂ adducts and reacted with a series of unsymmetrical dienophiles. The regiochemical results have been analyzed in terms of qualitative perturbation theory.     

Synthesis of the Pheromones, (E)-3, 7-Dimethyl-2, 7-Octadienyl Propionate, (E)-3, 7-Dimethyl-2-Octene-1, 8-Diol and Frontalin from a Common Intermediate1

Ketal ester 9 has been prepared in five steps from methyl levulinate 4 (scheme 1). The propionate 1, diol 2 and (±) frontalin 3 were prepared from ester 9 employing the routes shown in scheme 2,3 and 4 respectively. The branched chain alkenes 13 and 20 were prepared conveniently from the primary alcohols 11 and 10 following the procedure of S.Wolff. Triethyl phosphonopropionate 7 has been prepared by methylating triethylphosphonoacetate with methyl iodide in the presence of sodium hydride.     

Further new rearranged lanostanoids from the seeds of Abies mariesii and A. firma

In addition to reported 17,14-friedo lanostane type (I) of triterpene further triterpenes having new rearranged lanostane skeletons, 17,13-friedo lanostane (II) and 8(14→13R) abeo-17,13-friedo lanostane (III), have been isolated from the seed of Abiesmariesii. The skeletons I and II were also found to occur in A. firma. Their structures have been elucidated by spectral and X-ray diffraction analyses.     

Novel tricyclic terpanes (C19, C20) in sediments and petroleums

Three homologs (1–3 ; C₁₉,C₂₀) of a tricyclic terpane series (C₁₉C₃₀0 widely occuring in sediments and petroleums have been identified as probable degradation products of tricyclohexaprenane 13, a yet unknown tricyclic terpane skeleton.     

Isolation, purification, and study of some properties of the lysl-, phenylalanyl-, and aspartyl-tRNA synthetases from the fungus Verticillium dahliae

Conclusions Relatively highly purified preparations of lysyl-, phenylalanyl- and aspartyl-tRNA synthetases have been isolated from the 12-day mycelium of a strongly virulent form of the fungusV. dahliae and some of their physicochemical properties have been studied.Institute of Biochemistry, Academy of Sciences of the Uzbek SSR. Glycosides of Erysimum

Summary The cardenolides of six species ofErysimum and ofSyrenia siliculosa have been studied. The cardiac glycosides erysimin and erysimoside have been found inE. altaicum, E. marschallianum, E. nuratensae, andS. siliculosa. Neutral diterpenoids of oleoresins of five species of conifers of Transcarpathia

The compositions of the neutral diterpenoids of the oleoresins of five species of conifers growing in the Transcarpathia have been studied. It has been found that the oleoresins ofAbies alba M.,Larix decidua M., andPicea excelsa L. contain more than 50% of neutral diterpenoids. The group and qualitative compositions of the oxygen-containing diterpenoids have been determined. In the oleoresins ofAbies alba,Picea excelsa, andPicea abies tertiary alcohols — cis-abienol and isocembrol — predominate, while inLarix decidua the main component is the hydroxy ester larixyl acetate. Primary alcohols related to the resin acids have been found in all the oleoresins investigated. Features of the distribution of diterpenoids according to the species of conifers have been revealed.
