It has recently been suggested that our universe is a three-brane embedded in a higher dimensional spacetime. In this paper I examine static, spherically symmetric solutions that satisfy the effective Einstein field equations on a brane embedded in a five dimensional spacetime. The field equations involve a term depending on the five dimensional Weyl tensor, so that the solutions will not be Schwarzschild in general. This Weyl term is traceless so that any solution of (4) R = 0 is a possible four dimensional spacetime. Different solutions correspond to different five dimensional spacetimes and to different induced energy-momentum tensors on the brane. One interesting possibility is that the Weyl term could be responsible for the observed dark matter in the universe. It is shown that there are solutions of the equation (4) R = 0 that can account for the observed rotation curves of spiral galaxies.  相似文献

We use only the equation.of motion for an interacting system of gravity, dilaton and antisymmetric tensor to study the soliton solutions by making use of a Poincaré-invariant ansatz. We show that the system of equations is completely integrable and the solution is unique with appropriate boundary conditions. Some new classes of solutions are also given explicitly.  相似文献

By using the method of quantum statistics, we derive directly the partition functions of bosonic andfermionic fields in the N-dimensional spherically symmetric charged black hole space-time. The statistical entropy ofblack hole is obtained by an improved brick-wall method. When we choose proper parameters in our results, we canobtain that the entropy of black hole is proportional to the area of horizon. In our result, there do not exist neglectedterm and divergent logarithmic term given in the original brick-wall method. We avoid the difficulty in solving the waveequation of scalar and Dirac fields. We offer a simple and direct way of studying entropy of the higher-dimensional black hole.  相似文献

Using quantum liquids one can simulate the behavior of the quantum vacuum in the presence of the event horizon. The condensed matter analogs demonstrate that in most cases the quantum vacuum resists formation of the horizon, and even if the horizon is formed different types of the vacuum instability develop, which are faster than the process of Hawking radiation. Nevertheless, it is possible to create the horizon on the quantum-liquid analog of the brane, where the vacuum life-time is long enough to consider the horizon as the quasistationary object. Using this analogy we calculate the Bekenstein entropy of the near-extremal and extremal black holes, which comes from the fermionic microstates in the region of the horizon—the fermion zero modes. We also discuss how the cancellation of the large cosmological constant follows from the thermodynamics of the vacuum.  相似文献

This paper investigates the resonant frequencies of the massless scalar field in the near extremal Kerr-like black-brane spacetime. It is shown that the different angular quantum number will present different resonant frequencies. It is also shown that the real part of the resonant frequencies increases as the compact dimensions parameter μi increases, but the magnitude of the imaginary part decreases as μi increases.  相似文献

Using the membrane model which is based on brick-wall model, we calculated the free energy and entropy of spherically symmetric black holes due to arbitrary spin. The Einstein-conformally coupled scalar field system is studied in the presence of a cosmological constant. We consider a massless or massive scalar field with no additional self-interaction, and spherically symmetric black hole geometries. When the cosmological constant is positive, no scalar hair can exist and the only solution is the Schwarzschild–de Sitter black hole. When the cosmological constant is negative, stable scalar field hair exists provided the mass of the scalar field is not too large.  相似文献

The massive particles’ Hawking radiation from a spherically symmetric static black hole is investigated with Parikh-Wilczek method, Hamilton–Jacobi method and Damour–Ruffini’s method. When energy conservation is considered, the same result can be concluded that the radiation spectrum is not precisely thermal. We investigate the dynamics of Einstein equations in the vicinity of the two recently described types of singularity of anisotropic and homogeneous cosmological models described by the action

Si-Jie Gao has recently investigated Hawking radiation from spherically symmetrical gravitational collapse to an extremal R-N black hole for a real scalar field. Especially he estimated the upper bound for the expected number of particles in any wave packet belonging to Hout spontaneously produced from the state |0>in, which confirms the traditional belief that extremal black holes do not radiate particles. The energy--momentum tensor, which is coordinate-independent, is used to calculate energy, momentum and angular momentum of two different tetrad fields. Although, the two tetrad fields reproduce the same space--time their energies are different. Therefore, a regularized expression of the gravitational energy--momentum tensor of the teleparallel equivalent of general relativity (TEGR), is used to make the energies of the two tetrad fields equal. The definition of the gravitational energy--momentum is used to investigate the energy within the external event horizon. The components of angular momentum associated with these space--times are calculated. In spite of using a static space--time, we get a non-zero component of angular momentum! Therefore, we derive the Killing vectors associated with these space--times using the definition of the Lie derivative of a second rank tensor in the framework of the TEGR to make the picture more clear.  相似文献
