In a rare-earth antiferromagnet, two neighboring magnetic ions order spontaneously in opposite directions below the Néel temperature. Especially when it is placed in an external magnetic field, the two magnetic ions react to the field in different ways, so that they usually have different magnitudes and orientations below the magnetic transition temperature. Therefore, to describe the magnetic structure of an antiferromagnet, the single-ion ferromagnetic-like model is inadequate. To solve this problem, a two-ion model for rare-earth antiferromagnets is proposed and used in this work to investigate the magnetic properties of DyNi2B2C. The magnetic susceptibility curves obtained with this model show good agreements with experimental data.  相似文献

Antiferromagnetic resonance in single crystals of rhombohedral gadolinium ferroborate GdFe3(BO3)4 was studied. The frequency-field dependences of antiferromagnetic resonance over the frequency range 26–70 GHz and the temperature dependences of resonance parameters for magnetic fields oriented along the crystal axis and in the basal plane were determined. It was found that the iron subsystem, which can be treated as a two-sublattice antiferromagnet with anisotropy of the easy-plane type, experienced ordering at T=38 K. At temperatures below 20 K, the gadolinium subsystem with the opposite anisotropy sign strongly influenced the anisotropic properties of the crystal. This resulted in a spontaneous spin-reorientation transition from the easy-plane to the easy-axis state at 10 K. Below 10 K, magnetic field-induced transitions between the states were observed. Experimental phase diagrams on the temperature-magnetic field plane were constructed for fields oriented along the crystal axis and in the basal plane. A simple model was used to calculate the critical transition fields. The results were in close agreement with the experimental values measured at T=4.2 K for both field orientations.  相似文献

We calculate the excitation gap, the soliton energy, and the soliton density at finite temperature, of the spin-1/2 one dimensional antiferromagnet coupled to phonons, using a self-consistent harmonic approximation, and the thermal-Green function technique. The spin degrees of freedom are represented by the phase Hamiltonian with the help of the boson representation of the spinless fermions. We estimate the critical field Hc above which begins the incommensurate phase. We also present a theoretical calculation for the specific heat in this phase. We use CuGeO3 as an example of a compound where our theory could be applied. Received 22 October 2002 / Received in final form 21 January 2003 Published online 14 March 2003  相似文献

The static and resonance properties of a quasi-two-dimensional antiferromagnet phase on a distorted triangular lattice of KFe(MoO4)2 have been experimentally studied. Magnetization curves exhibit features corresponding to the spin-flop transition in a collinear biaxial antiferromagnet and simultaneously show a magnetization plateau characteristic of a triangular spin structure. The magnetic resonance spectra also display absorption lines corresponding to the spin structures of both types. The experimental data are described in terms of a model comprising alternating weakly bound magnetic layers, in which the main two exchange integrals have different values. Below the Néel temperature (T N =2.5 K), some of these layers possess a collinear antiferromagnetic structure, while the other layers have a triangular or spiral structure.  相似文献

Electron spin resonance experiments at submillimeter and millimeter wavelengths have been performed on the random mixture, Rb2Mn(1-x)CrxCl4 of an insulating antiferromagnet Rb2MnCl4 and an insulating ferromagnet Rb2CrCl4. From the antiferromagnet resonance in the Mn-rich concentrations, the antiferromagnetic exchange field is shown to become small with Cr concentration. Thus, a competition between the antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic exchange interactions really exists in this mixed system.A competition of the uniaxial anisotropy of Rb2MnCl4 with the planar one of Rb2CrCl4 has also been found.  相似文献

The electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) of Yb3+ ions in a KY(WO4)2 single crystal was investigated at T=4.2 K and fixed frequency of 9.38 GHz. The resonance absorption observed on the lowest Kramers doublet represents the complex superposition of three spectra, corresponding to the ytterbium isotopes with different nuclear moments. The EPR spectrum is characterized by a strong anisotropy of the g-factors. The temperature dependence of the g-factors is shown to be caused by the strong spin-orbital and orbital-lattice coupling. The resonance lines broaden with increasing temperature due to the short spin-lattice relaxation times.  相似文献

We report results of susceptibility χ and 7Li NMR measurements on LiVSi2O6. The temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility χ(T) exhibits a broad maximum, typical for low-dimensional magnetic systems. Quantitatively it is in agreement with the expectation for an S=1 spin chain, represented by the structural arrangement of V ions. The NMR results indicate antiferromagnetic ordering below TN=24 K. The intra- and interchain coupling J and Jp for LiVSi2O6, and also for its sister compounds LiVGe2O6, NaVSi2O6 and NaVGe2O6, are obtained via a modified random phase approximation which takes into account results of quantum Monte Carlo calculations. While Jp is almost constant across the series, J varies by a factor of 5, decreasing with increasing lattice constant along the chain direction. The comparison between experimental and theoretical susceptibility data suggests the presence of an easy-axis magnetic anisotropy, which explains the formation of an energy gap in the magnetic excitation spectrum below TN, indicated by the variation of the NMR spin-lattice relaxation rate at T≪TN.  相似文献

The magnetotransport and magnetic properties of the binary intermetallic compound Ho2In have been investigated. Clear signature of long range ferromagnetic order in the resistivity and the magnetization data at TC = 85 K is observed. A further spin reorientation type transition is also apparent in our measured data at around Tt = 32 K. The sample exhibits negative magnetoresistance (peak value of –14% at 5 T) over a wide temperature range that extends well above TC. Substantially large magneto-caloric effect is also observed in the sample (maximum value of –8.5 J kg-1K-1 for 0 → 5 T), which peaks around the TC of the sample. The observed magnetoresistance and magnetocaloric effect are related to the suppression of spin disorder by an external magnetic field. Ho2In can be an interesting addition to the list of rare-earth based magnetic refrigerant materials showing magneto-caloric effect across a second order phase transition.  相似文献

We report a neutron scattering study of the instantaneous spin correlations in the two-dimensional spin S =5/2 square-lattice Heisenberg antiferromagnet Rb2MnF4. The measured correlation lengths are quantitatively described, with no adjustable parameters, by high-temperature series expansion results and by a theory based on the quantum self-consistent harmonic approximation. Conversely, we find that the data, which cover the range from about 1 to 50 lattice constants, are outside of the regime corresponding to renormalized classical behavior of the quantum non-linear model. In addition, we observe a crossover from Heisenberg to Ising critical behavior near the Néel temperature; this crossover is well described by a mean-field model with no adjustable parameters. The structure of domain walls and new-phase nucleation are investigated in a four-sublattice antiferromagnet (AFM) of the La2CuO4 type placed in a magnetic field which initiates an AFM-weak-ferromagnet (WFM) magnetic structural phase transition. The critical fields for nucleus growth are found in the case of two types of domain walls present. The magnetization curve is calculated and a two-step mechanism is proposed for the AFM-WFM phase transition observed in La2CuO4.  相似文献

A series of new heterofullerides with compositions Rb2MC60, K2MC60, and KM2C60 (M = Mg, Be) have been synthesized. Measurements of the temperature dependences of the magnetic susceptibility in the temperature interval from 4.2 to 300 K reveal a superconducting transition in heterofullerides K2MgC60, KMg2C60, K2BeC60, and Rb2BeC60 at temperatures T c = 13–22 K. The electron states with uncompensated spin are studied by the electron paramagnetic resonance technique. The contributions of conduction electrons and localized electrons to the paramagnetic susceptibility are extracted.  相似文献

The magnetic properties of an easy-axis trigonal DyFe3(BO3)4 antiferromagnetic crystal have been theoretically studied. On this basis, recent experimental data [1] on the field and temperature dependences of magnetization and the temperature dependence of the initial magnetic susceptibility for three crystallographic directions in this antiferromagnet have been interpreted. The characteristics of the trigonal crystal field for the rare earth ion and the parameters of the Fe-Fe and Fe-Dy exchange interactions are determined. Limitations imposed by features of the magnetic characteristics (anisotropic magnetization in the three crystallographic directions, Schottky-type anomalies in the magnetic susceptibility, etc.) on the possible splitting of the ground-state multiplet in the crystal field and the splitting of the lowest doublet due to the f-d interaction for Dy3+ ions are established.  相似文献

Single crystals of the Tb0.75Ho0.25Fe3(BO3)4 ferroborate have been grown by the group method from a solution–melt based on bismuth trimolybdate. The magnetic and magnetoelectric properties of the ferroborate single crystals have been investigated in the temperature range from 4.2 to 300 K and in magnetic fields up to 9 T. Magnetically, this material is an antiferromagnet with the Néel temperature T N = 38.8 K and easy-axis anisotropy. The magnitude of the magnetoelectric polarization has been found to be more than 1.5–2.0 times greater than the sum of the polarizations induced by the magnetic field for the ferroborates TbFe3(BO3)4 and HoFe3(BO3)4 taken in the corresponding shares.  相似文献

The magnetic and magnetodielectric properties of Ho0.5Nd0.5Fe3(BO3)4 ferroborate with the competing Ho–Fe and Nd–Fe exchange couplings have been experimentally and theoretically investigated. Step anomalies in the magnetization curves at the spin-reorientation transition induced by the magnetic field Bc have been found. The spontaneous spin-reorientation transition temperature TSR ≈ 8 K has been refined. The measured magnetic properties and observed features are interpreted using a single theoretical approach based on the molecular field approximation and calculations within the crystal field model of the rare-earth ion. Interpretation of the experimental data includes determination of the crystal field parameters for Ho3+ and Nd3+ ions in Ho0.5Nd0.5Fe3(BO3)4 and parameters of the Ho–Fe and Nd–Fe exchange couplings.  相似文献

Comprehensive NMR investigation of low-frequency spin dynamics of LiCu2O2 (LCO) and NaCu2O2 (NCO) low-dimensional helical magnets in the paramagnetic state has been carried out for the first time. Temperature dependences of the spin–lattice relaxation rate and anisotropy on various LCO/NCO nuclei have been determined at various orientations of single crystals in an external magnetic field. The spatial asymmetry of spin fluctuations in LCO multiferroic has been discovered. The quantitative analysis of the anisotropy of spin–lattice relaxation in LCO/NCO has allowed estimating the contributions of individual neighboring Cu2+ ions to the transferred hyperfine field on Li+(Na+) ions.  相似文献

The magnetic structures of Mn1-xFexWO4 with x = 0.0, 0.16, 0.21, 0.225, 0.232, 0.24, 0.27, 0.29, and 1.0 were refined from neutron powder diffraction data. The magnetic phase diagram could be completed in the coexistence range of different magnetic structures up to x = 0.29. For the magnetic state at 1.5 K a commensurate antiferromagnetic structure with a propagation vector = (±1/4, 1/2, 1/2) was found for x ⩽ 0.22 while the magnetic spins order with = (1/2, 0, 0) for x ≥ 0.22. In the latter phase, additionally, weak magnetic reflections indexed to an incommensurate ordering with = (- 0.214, 1/2, 0.457) occur in the diffraction pattern up to x = 0.29 indicating the occurence of a reentrant phase. For 0.12 ⩽ x ⩽ 0.29 the low temperature phases are separated from a magnetic high temperature phase showing only magnetic reflections indexed to a spin arrangement with = (1/2, 0, 0). The magnetic phase diagram is discussed qualitatively considering random superexchange between the statistically distributed Mn2+- and Fe2+-ions in the coexistence range 0.12 ⩽ x ⩽ 0.29 of different magnetic structures related to those of pure MnWO4 and FeWO4. The magnetotransport and magnetoresistive (MR) properties of manganese-based La0.67Ca0.33MnO3 perovskite with different grain sizes are reported. The electrical resistivity was measured as a function of temperature in magnetic fields of 0.5 and 1 T. The insulator–metal transition temperature, T IM, shifted to a higher temperature with the application of the magnetic field. In zero field, T IM is almost constant (∼271 K) for all samples except for the sample with the largest grain size, where T IM=265 K. The temperature dependence of resistivity was fitted with several equations in the metallic (ferromagnetic) region and the insulating (paramagnetic) region. The density of states at the Fermi level, N(E F), and the activation energy of electron hopping were estimated by fitting the resistivity versus temperature curves. The ρT 2 curves are nearly linear in the metallic regime, but the ρT 2.5 curves exhibit a deviation from linearity. The variable range hopping model and small polaron hopping model fit the data well in the high-temperature region, indicating the existence of the Jahn–Teller distortion that localizes the charge carriers. MR was found to increase with an increase in the magnetic field, an effect which is attributed to the intergrain spin tunneling effect.  相似文献

The specific heat of single-crystal Rb2KScF6 is measured using ac calorimetry in the range 4–280 K. The results are discussed in the context of a group-theoretical analysis of possible distortions of the elpasolite structure and of experimental data obtained earlier with an adiabatic calorimeter in a narrower temperature region.  相似文献

The magnetic properties of LiCu2O2 single-crystal samples without twinning are investigated using electron spin resonance and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The experimental results obtained are described in terms of the model of a planar spiral antiferromagnet for the orientation of the magnetic field Hb or Hc and the model of a collinear spin-modulated antiferromagnet for the orientation of the static magnetic field Ha.  相似文献

The electron spin resonance has been measured for the first time both in the paramagnetic phase of the metallic GdB6 antiferromagnet (TN = 15.5K) and in the antiferromagnetic state (T < TN). In the paramagnetic phase below T* ~ 70 K, the material is found to exhibit a pronounced increase in the resonance linewidth and a shift in the g-factor, which is proportional to the linewidth Δg(T) ~ ΔH(T). Such behavior is not characteristic of antiferromagnetic metals and seems to be due to the effects related to displacements of Gd3+ ions from the centrosymmetric positions in the boron cage. The transition to the antiferromagnetic phase is accompanied by an abrupt change in the position of resonance (from μ0H0 ≈ 1.9 T to μ0H0 ≈ 3.9 T at ν = 60 GHz), after which a smooth evolution of the spectrum occurs, resulting eventually in the formation of the spectrum consisting of four resonance lines. The magnetic field dependence of the frequency of the resonant modes ω0(H0) obtained in the range of 28–69 GHz is well interpreted within the model of ESR in an antiferromagnet with the easy anisotropy axis ω/γ = (H 0 2 +2HAHE)1/2, where HE is the exchange field and HA is the anisotropy field. This provides an estimate for the anisotropy field, HA ≈ 800 Oe. This value can result from the dipole?dipole interaction related to the mutual displacement of Gd3+ ions, which occurs at the antiferromagnetic transition.  相似文献
