A relative one-relator presentation has the form where is a set, is a group, and is a word on . We show that if the word on obtained from by deleting all the terms from has what we call the unique max-min property, then the group defined by is residually finite if and only if is residually finite (Theorem 1). We apply this to obtain new results concerning the residual finiteness of (ordinary) one-relator groups (Theorem 4). We also obtain results concerning the conjugacy problem for one-relator groups (Theorem 5), and results concerning the relative asphericity of presentations of the form (Theorem 6).

Let (X,T) be a regular stable conical action of an algebraic torus on an affine normal conical variety X defined over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. We define a certain subgroup of Cl(X//T) and characterize its finiteness in terms of a finite T-equivariant Galois descent of X. Consequently we show that the action (X,T) is equidimensional if and only if there exists a T-equivariant finite Galois covering such that is cofree. Moreover the order of is controlled by a certain subgroup of Cl(X). The present result extends thoroughly the equivalence of equidimensionality and cofreeness of (X,T) for a factorial X. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate orders of divisor classes associated to modules of relative invariants for a Krull domain with a group action. This is useful in studying on equidimensional torus actions as above. The generalization of R.P. Stanley?s criterion for freeness of modules of relative invariants plays an important role in showing key assertions. 相似文献

AbstractWe investigate relative connections on a sheaf of modules. A sufficient condition is given for the existence of a relative holomorphic connection on a holomorphic vector bundle over a complex analytic family. We show that the relative Chern classes of a holomorphic vector bundle admitting relative holomorphic connection vanish, if each of the fiber of the complex analytic family is compact and Kähler. 相似文献

A relative presentation is a triple where A is a group, X is a set, and R is a set of words in the free product A∗F(X) where F(X) is the free group with basis X. Under certain hypotheses on the relative presentation , we show that (1) the group presented by is locally indicable; (2) the pre-aspherical model for is aspherical; (3) the Freiheitssatz holds for . The result has applications in the computation of cohomology of groups and the field of equations over groups. 相似文献

Let π(G,A):IrrA(G)→Irr(CG(A)) be the Glauberman–Isaacs correspondence, where G and A are finite groups with coprime orders and A acts on G by automorphisms. Let B be a subgroup of A. In this setting, we give some new conditions for the fixed-point subgroups CG(A) and CG(B) such that χπ(G,A) is an irreducible constituent of the restriction of χπ(G,B) to CG(A) for all χIrrA(G). 相似文献

In this paper we discuss the semantics and properties of the relative belief transform, a probability transformation of belief functions closely related to the classical plausibility transform. We discuss its rationale in both the probability-bound and Shafer’s interpretations of belief functions. Even though the resulting probability (as it is the case for the plausibility transform) is not consistent with the original belief function, an interesting rationale in terms of optimal strategies in a non-cooperative game can be given in the probability-bound interpretation to both relative belief and plausibility of singletons. On the other hand, we prove that relative belief commutes with Dempster’s orthogonal sum, meets a number of properties which are the duals of those met by the relative plausibility of singletons, and commutes with convex closure in a similar way to Dempster’s rule. This supports the argument that relative plausibility and belief transform are indeed naturally associated with the D-S framework, and highlights a classification of probability transformations into two families, according to the operator they relate to. Finally, we point out that relative belief is only a member of a class of “relative mass” mappings, which can be interpreted as low-cost proxies for both plausibility and pignistic transforms. 相似文献

We study a class of two-generator two-relator groups, denoted \(J_n(m,k)\), that arise in the study of relative asphericity as groups satisfying a transitional curvature condition. Particular instances of these groups occur in the literature as finite groups of intriguing orders. Here we find infinite families of non-elementary virtually free groups and of finite metabelian non-nilpotent groups, for which we determine the orders. All Mersenne primes arise as factors of the orders of the non-metacyclic groups in the class, as do all primes from other conjecturally infinite families of primes. We classify the finite groups up to isomorphism and show that our class overlaps and extends a class of groups \(F^{a,b,c}\) with trivalent Cayley graphs that was introduced by C. M. Campbell, H. S. M. Coxeter, and E. F. Robertson. The theory of cyclically presented groups informs our methods and we extend part of this theory (namely, on connections with polynomial resultants) to “bicyclically presented groups” that arise naturally in our analysis. As a corollary to our main results we obtain new infinite families of finite metacyclic generalized Fibonacci groups. 相似文献

A theorem of Bourgain states that the harmonic measure for a domain in ℝ

‘There exist normal \((2m,2,2m,m)\) relative difference sets and thus Hadamard groups of order \(4m\) for all \(m\) of the form $$\begin{aligned} m= x2^{a+t+u+w+\delta -\epsilon +1}6^b 9^c 10^d 22^e 26^f \prod _{i=1}^s p_i^{4a_i} \prod _{i=1}^t q_i^2 \prod _{i=1}^u \left( (r_i+1)/2)r_i^{v_i}\right) \prod _{i=1}^w s_i \end{aligned}$$ under the following conditions: \(a,b,c,d,e,f,s,t,u,w\) are nonnegative integers, \(a_1,\ldots ,a_r\) and \(v_1,\ldots ,v_u\) are positive integers, \(p_1,\ldots ,p_s\) are odd primes, \(q_1,\ldots ,q_t\) and \(r_1,\ldots ,r_u\) are prime powers with \(q_i\equiv 1\ (\mathrm{mod}\ 4)\) and \(r_i\equiv 1\ (\mathrm{mod}\ 4)\) for all \(i, s_1,\ldots ,s_w\) are integers with \(1\le s_i \le 33\) or \(s_i\in \{39,43\}\) for all \(i, x\) is a positive integer such that \(2x-1\) or \(4x-1\) is a prime power. Moreover, \(\delta =1\) if \(x>1\) and \(c+s>0, \delta =0\) otherwise, \(\epsilon =1\) if \(x=1, c+s=0\) , and \(t+u+w>0, \epsilon =0\) otherwise. We also obtain some necessary conditions for the existence of \((2m,2,2m,m)\) relative difference sets in partial semidirect products of \(\mathbb{Z }_4\) with abelian groups, and provide a table cases for which \(m\le 100\) and the existence of such relative difference sets is open. 相似文献

It is now known [H. Kisilevsky, J. Sonn, Abelian extensions of global fields with constant local degrees, Math. Res. Lett. 13 (4) (2006) 599-607; C.D. Popescu, Torsion subgroups of Brauer groups and extensions of constant local degree for global function fields, J. Number Theory 115 (2005) 27-44] that if F is a global field, then the n-torsion subgroup of its Brauer group Br(F) equals the relative Brauer group Br(Ln/F) of an abelian extension Ln/F, for all n∈Z?1. We conjecture that this property characterizes the global fields within the class of infinite fields which are finitely generated over their prime fields. In the first part of this paper, we make a first step towards proving this conjecture. Namely, we show that if F is a non-global infinite field, which is finitely generated over its prime field and ?≠char(F) is a prime number such that μ?2⊆F×, then there does not exist an abelian extension L/F such that . The second and third parts of this paper are concerned with a close analysis of the link between the hypothesis μ?2⊆F× and the existence of an abelian extension L/F such that , in the case where F is a Henselian valued field. 相似文献
