Methods from soft-collinear effective theory are used to perform the threshold resummation of Sudakov logarithms for the deep-inelastic structure function F2(x,Q2) in the end-point region x-->1 directly in momentum space. An explicit all-order formula is derived, which expresses the short-distance coefficient function C in the convolution F2 = C multiply sign in circle phi q in terms of Wilson coefficients and anomalous dimensions defined in the effective theory. Contributions associated with the physical scales Q2 and Q2(1-x) are separated from nonperturbative hadronic physics in a transparent way. A crucial ingredient to the momentum-space resummation is the exact solution to the integro-differential evolution equation for the jet function, which is derived. The methods developed in this Letter can be applied to many other hard QCD processes.  相似文献

We present a complete analysis of threshold resummation effects on direct light and heavy gaugino pair production at the Tevatron and the LHC. Based on a new perturbative calculation at next-to-leading order of SUSY-QCD, which includes also squark mixing effects, we resum soft gluon radiation in the threshold region at leading and next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy, retaining at the same time the full SUSY-QCD corrections in the finite coefficient function. This allows us to correctly match the resummed to the perturbative cross section. Universal subleading logarithms are resummed in full matrix form. We find that threshold resummation slightly increases and considerably stabilizes the invariant mass spectra and total cross sections with respect to the next-to-leading order calculation. For future reference, we present total cross sections and their theoretical errors in tabular form for several commonly used SUSY benchmark points, gaugino pairs, and hadron collider energies.  相似文献

QCD corrections to all the allowed decays of superheavy groundstate quarkonia into electroweak gauge and Higgs bosons are presented. For quick estimates, approximations that reproduce the exact results within less than at worst one percent are also given.  相似文献

We present a new global fit to precision electroweak data, including new low- and high-energy data and analyzing the radiative corrections arising from the minimal symmetry breaking sectors of the Standard Model (SM) and its supersymmetric extension (MSSM). It is shown that present data favor a Higgs mass of ${cal O}(M_Z)$: $$M_{H}=76 {+ 152 ?op -50}{? GeV}.$$ We confront our analysis with (meta) stability and perturbative bounds on the SM Higgs mass, and the theoretical upper bound on the MSSM Higgs mass. Present data do not discriminate significantly between the SM and MSSM Higgs mass ranges. We comment in passing on the sensitivity of the Higgs mass determination to the values of $←pha (M_Z)$ and ${←pha_s} (M_Z)$.  相似文献

The threshold relation for deep-inelastic electroproduction that was suggested by Drell and Yan and by West is not a general property of softened field theories. However, for individual Feynman graphs of certain perturbation-expansion models it is valid in the form of an inequality. This is shown for every graph in φ3 theory, and for certain simple graphs when fields and particles with spin are considered, provided that the fields to which the electromagnetic current couples have the same spin as the target particle. The structure functions F2(ω) and F2(ω) for electroproduction and electron-positron annihilation are both expected to behave like |ω ? 1 |p at ω = 1, with the same power p for each but not necessarily the same coefficient. The behaviour of F2(ω) at ω = 0 is investigated and is found to result in finite multiplicity in the annihilation process at infinite energy.  相似文献

The constraints of fixed-target DIS data in fits of parton distributions including QCD corrections to next-to-next-to leading order are studied. We point out a potential problem in the analysis of the NMC data which can lead to inconsistencies in the extracted value for α s (M Z ) and the gluon distribution at higher orders in QCD. The implications for predictions of rates for Standard Model Higgs boson production at hadron colliders are investigated. We conclude that the current range of excluded Higgs boson masses at the Tevatron appears to be much too large.  相似文献

We update our previous work on an analysis of the electroweak data by including new and partly preliminary data available up to the 1996 summer conferences. The new results on the partial decay widths into and hadrons now offer a consistent interpretation of all data in the minimal standard model. The value extracted for the strong interaction coupling constant agrees well with determinations in other areas. New constraints on the universal parameters , and are obtained from the updated measurements. No signal of new physics is found in the , , analysis once the SM contributions with GeV and those of not a too heavy Higgs boson are accounted for. The naive QCD-like technicolor model is now ruled out at the 99% CL even for the minimal model with . In the absence of a significant new physics effect in the electroweak observables, constraints on masses of the top quark, , and Higgs boson, , are derived as a function of and the QED effective coupling . The preferred range of depends rather strongly on the actual value of : for , while for at 95% CL. Prospects due to forthcoming improved measurements of asymmetries, the mass of the weak boson , and are discussed. Anticipating uncertainties of 0.00020 for , 20 MeV for , and 2 GeV for , the new physics contributions to the , , parameters will be constrained more severely, and, within the SM, the logarithm of the Higgs mass can be constrained to about . The better constraints on , , and on within the minimal SM should be accompanied with matching precision in . Received: 18 June 1997  相似文献

This paper is devoted to the study of warm inflation using vector fields in the background of a locally rotationally symmetric Bianchi type I model of the universe. We formulate the field equations, and slow-roll and perturbation parameters (scalar and tensor power spectra as well as their spectral indices) in the slow-roll approximation. We evaluate all these parameters in terms of the directional Hubble parameter during the intermediate and logamediate inflationary regimes by taking the dissipation factor as a function of the scalar field as well as a constant. In each case, we calculate the observational parameter of interest, i.e., the tensor–scalar ratio in terms of the inflaton. The graphical behavior of these parameters shows that the anisotropic model is also compatible with WMAP7 and the Planck observational data.  相似文献

The combined analysis of polarized DIS and SIDIS data is performed in NLO QCD using two alternative procedures: standard fitting procedure and the recently developed direct new method. The results from two methods are compared. The especial attention is paid to the light sea and strange PDFs.  相似文献

We investigate the potential impact of forthcoming Jefferson Lab semi-inclusive polarized deep inelastic scattering proton measurements in the determination of the sea quark polarization in the nucleons by means of a next to leading order global QCD analysis. Specifically, we estimate the resulting improvement in the constraints on polarized parton densities for different flavors, which is found to be significant for up and strange quarks, and the correlation between remaining uncertainty ranges for each of the parton species. A new analysis of the hadronic peak cross section at LEP 1 implies a small amount of missing invisible width in Z decays, while the effective weak charge in atomic parity violation has been determined recently to 0.6% accuracy, indicating a significantly negative S parameter. As a consequence, the data are described well if the presence of an extra Z' boson, such as predicted in grand unified theories, is assumed. Moreover, the data are now rich enough to study an arbitrary extra Z' boson and to determine its couplings in a model independent way. An excellent fit to the data is obtained in this case, suggestive of a family nonuniversal Z' similar to those predicted in a class of superstring theories.  相似文献

We provide a novel development in jet physics by predicting the energy profiles of light-quark and gluon jets in the framework of perturbative QCD. Resumming large logarithmic contributions to all orders in the coupling constant, our predictions are shown to agree well with Tevatron CDF and Large Hadron Collider CMS data. We also extend our resummation formalism to the invariant mass distributions of light-quark and gluon jets produced in hadron collisions. The predicted peak positions and heights in jet mass distributions are consistent with CDF data within uncertainties induced by parton distribution functions.  相似文献
