The Bratteli diagram is an infinite graph which reflects the structure of projections in an AF-algebra. We prove that every strictly ergodic unimodular Bratteli diagram of rank 2g+m−1 gives rise to a minimal geodesic lamination with the m principal regions on a hyperbolic surface of genus g≥1. The proof is based on a Morse theory of the recurrent geodesics on the hyperbolic surfaces.  相似文献

The structure of theC *-algebra with identity generated by two orthogonal projections is well understood. All irreducible representations of this algebra are either two-dimensional or one-dimensional. The situation becomes unpredictable in the case of theC *-algebra generated by three orthogonal projections. Even in the more specific case when two of the projections commute, the algebra under consideration may have infinite dimensional irreducible representations.In this paper we produce three concrete realizations of the algebra generated by three orthogonal projections in that specific case. Abstract

We define higher degree hyperbolic forms, analogous to the quadratic hyperbolic forms. We prove the following descent result. Let f be a form of degree d ≥ 3 over a field F of characteristic 0, and let K|f be a field extension. Then if f is equivalent over K to a hyperbolic form, f must already be equivalent to it over F. We also prove that in the monoid of equivalence classes of forms defined over F of a fixed degree d ≥ 3, under the tensor product, the submonoid generated by the equivalence classes of the hyperbolic forms is free. The proofs of these results involve the calculation of the centres and the Lie algebras of the higher degree hyperbolic forms. For the convenience of the reader we expound some of Harrison's seminal paper [5].  相似文献

Buckholtz (Proc. Amer. Math. Soc. 128 (2000), 1415–1418) gave necessary and sufficient conditions for the invertibility of the difference of two orthogonal projections in a Hilbert space. We generalize this result by investigating when the difference of such projections is a Fredholm operator, and give an explicit formula for its Fredholm inverse.  相似文献

We describe a method for constructing an n-orthogonal coordinate system in constant curvature spaces. The construction proposed is actually a modification of the Krichever method for producing an orthogonal coordinate system in the n-dimensional Euclidean space. To demonstrate how this method works, we construct some examples of orthogonal coordinate systems on the two-dimensional sphere and the hyperbolic plane, in the case when the spectral curve is reducible and all irreducible components are isomorphic to a complex projective line.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Let k be a field, char k ≠ 2, F = k(x), D a biquaternion division algebra over k, and σ an orthogonal involution on D with nontrivial discriminant. We show that there exists a quadratic form ? ∈ I 2(F) such that dim ? = 8, [C(?)] = [D], and ? does not decompose into a direct sum of two forms similar to two-fold Pfister forms. This implies in particular that the field extension F(D)/F is not excellent. Also we prove that if A is a central simple K-algebra of degree 8 with an orthogonal involution σ, then σ is hyperbolic if and only if σ K(A) is hyperbolic. Finally, let σ be a decomposable orthogonal involution on the algebra M 2 m (K). In the case m ≤ 5 we give another proof of the fact that σ is a Pfister involution. If m ≥ 2 n?2 ? 2 and n ≥ 5, we show that q σ ∈ I n (K), where q σ is a quadratic form corresponding to σ. The last statement is founded on a deep result of Orlov et al. We exhibit a surprising but natural connection among the Bergman space structure, commutative algebras of Toeplitz operators and pencils of hyperbolic straight lines. The commutative C*-algebras of Toeplitz operators on the unit disk can be classified as follows. Each pencil of hyperbolic straight lines determines the set of symbols consisting of functions which are constant on corresponding cycles, the orthogonal trajectories to lines forming a pencil. This paper establishes properties of discrete orthogonal projections on periodic spline spaces of order r, with knots that are equally spaced and of arbitrary multiplicity Mr. The discrete orthogonal projection is expressed in terms of a quadrature rule formed by mapping a fixed J-point rule to each sub-interval. The results include stability with respect to discrete and continuous norms, convergence, commutator and superapproximation properties. A key role is played by a novel basis for the spline space of multiplicity M, which reduces to a familiar basis when M=1.  相似文献

Based on the complex hyperbolic geometry associated with discrete series of SU(1, 1), we construct a quasi-invariant and ergodic measure on infinite product of Poincaré disc and a hyperbolic analogue of numerical Wiener space which turns out to be a nonlinear deformation of the Wiener space. An integration by parts formula is established. We also investigate the orthogonal decomposition of the L 2-holomorphic functions which is an analogue of the Wiener–Itô–Segal decomposition. In the zero-curvature and large spin limit, we recover the linear Wiener space.  相似文献

We study central simple algebras with involution of the first kind that become hyperbolic over the function field of the conic associated to a given quaternion algebra Q. We classify these algebras in degree 4 and give an example of such a division algebra with orthogonal involution of degree 8 that does not contain (Q,), even though it contains Q and is totally decomposable into a tensor product of quaternion algebras.  相似文献
