Sum of Divisors in a Ring of Gaussian Integers

We construct an asymptotic formula for a sum function for _a (), where _a () is the sum of the ath powers of the norms of divisors of the Gaussian integer on an arithmetic progression ₀ (mod ) and in a narrow sector ₁ arg < ₂. For this purpose, we use a representation of _a (n) in the form of a series in the Ramanujan sums.     

Inequalities in Products of Minors of Totally Nonnegative Matrices

Let _I,I be the minor of a matrix which corresponds to row set I and column set I. We give a characterization of the inequalities of the form _{I,I K,K J,J L,L} which hold for all totally nonnegative matrices. This generalizes a recent result of Fallat, Gekhtman, and Johnson.

The spectral bound of Schrödinger operators

Let V: R ^N [0, ] be a measurable function, and >0 be a parameter. We consider the behaviour of the spectral bound of the operator 1/2–V as a function of . In particular, we give a formula for the limiting value as , in terms of the integrals of V over subsets of R ^N on which the Laplacian with Dirichlet boundary conditions has prescribed values. We also consider the question whether this limiting value is attained for finite .     

Ultrafilter translations

We develop a method for extending results about ultrafilters into a more general setting. In this paper we shall be mainly concerned with applications to cardinality logics. For example, assumingV=L, Gödel's Axiom of Constructibility, we prove that if > then the logic with the quantifier there exist many is (,)-compact if and only if either is weakly compact or is singular of cofinality<. As a corollary, for every infinite cardinals and , there exists a (,)-compact non-(,)-compact logic if and only if either < orcf<cf or < is weakly compact.Counterexamples are given showing that the above statements may fail, ifV=L is not assumed.However, without special assumptions, analogous results are obtained for the stronger notion of [,]-compactness.

Zusammenfassung Die Hörmander-Klassen _1, ⁰ (0<1) von Pseudodifferentialoperatoren sind -Algebren. Insbesondere ist die Inverse eines inL(L ^p ( ⁿ )) invertierbaren Pseudodifferentialoperators der Klasse _1, ⁰ selbst wieder ein Pseudodifferential-operator derselben Klasse.Der Beweis beruht auf den von R. Beals, R. R. Coifman, Y. Meyer und H. O. Cordes entwickelten Methoden zur Charakterisierung von Algebren von Pseudodifferentialoperatoren.

On the existence of multiple solutions of nonhomogeneous elliptic equations involving critical Sobolev exponents

Letp=2N/(N –2),N 3 be the limiting Sobolev exponent and ^N a bounded smooth domain. We show that for H ^–1(),f satisfies some conditions then–u=c ₁ u ^p–1 +f(x,u) + admits at least two positive solutions.     

Growth of length of sequential derivation transformed into natural one

We consider the (&, )-fragment of the intuitionistic propositional calculus. It is proved that under the standard transformation of a Gentzen derivation into a natural derivation(), the length of (())2^2·length( ). Spectral parameter asymptotics of the Weyl solutions of Sturm-Liouville equations

Polynomially convex orbits of compact lie groups

LetV be a finite dimensional complex linear space and letG be a compact subgroup of GL(V). We prove that an orbitG, V, is polynomially convex if and only ifG is closed andG is the real form ofG . For every orbitG which is not polynomially convex we construct an analytic annulus or strip inG with the boundary inG. It is also proved that the group of holomorphic automorphisms ofG which commute withG acts transitively on the set of polynomially convexG-orbits. Further, an analog of the Kempf-Ness criterion is obtained and homogeneous spaces of compact Lie groups which admit only polynomially convex equivariant embeddings are characterized.Supported by Federal program Integratsiya, no. 586.Supported by INTAS grant 97/10170.

Periodic solutions of singularly perturbed delay equations

We consider a general class of singularly perturbed delay differential systems depending on a singular parameter and another parameter . For =0, the equation defines a mapT which undergoes a generic period doubling at =0. If the bifurcation is supercritical (subcritical), these period two points define a stable period two square wave (unstable period two pulse wave). We give conditions on the vector field such that there is a sectorS in the , plane such that there is a unique periodic orbit if the parameters are inS, the orbit is stable (unstable) if the period doubling bifurcation is supercritical (subcritical) and approaches the square (pulse) wave as 0.Partially supported by NSF and DARPA.
