Objective
To compare the diagnostic efficacy of whole-body diffusion-weighted imaging (WB-DWI) and [18F] fluoro-2-D-glucose PET/CT(FDG-PET/CT)for assessment of non–small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients.Materials and Methods
A group of 56 patients (21 female, 35 male; 35–76 years) with NSCLC proved by pathologic examination or follow-up imaging findings was set as reference standards, and all patients underwent both WB-DWI at 1.5T (MAGNETOM Avanto) and PET/CT (Biograph 16). For WB-DWI, a free breathing diffusion-weighted single-shot spin-echo epi-sequence in five-stations (head-neck, thorax, abdomen, pelvis-thigh) was used. Each station-series contained 30 contiguous axial slices. Imaging parameters: FOV 360×360 mm, matrix size 128×80. B-values: 0 and 1000 s/mm2 applied along x, y and z, 5 averages, acquisition time: 2.23 min/series, total: 11.55 min. The efficacy of WB-DWI and PET/CT were determined in a blinded reading by two radiologists and two nuclear medicine physicians using pathology and size change during follow up exams as the reference standard. Results
Primary tumors (n=56 patients) were correctly detected in 56 (100%) patients by both PET/CT and WB-DWI. Ninety-six lymph nodes metastases were determined with pathologic and follow-up examinations. Sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV) being for lymph node metastases: 91%, 90%, 90%, 96%, 80% with WB-DWI and 98%, 97%, 97%, 99%, 93% with PET-CT, other metastases: 90%, 95%, 92%, 97%, 83% with WB-DWI and 98%, 100%, 98%, 100%, 95% with PET-CT). Differences in the accuracy of lymph node metastasis detection between PET/CT and WB-DWI (P=.031) were significant. The differences were not statistically significant for detection of other metastases. Conclusions
WB-DWI is a feasible clinical technique for the assessment of NSCLC, lymph nodes and metastastic spread with high sensitivity and accuracy, but it was limited in the evaluation of neck lymph node metastases and small metastastic lung nodules. 相似文献2.

Purpose
The purpose of the study was to evaluate the conspicuity of bone metastases on each of the numerous sequences produced by fast Dixon-based multisequence whole-body (WB) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanning in order to determine the most clinically useful sequences overall and per anatomic region.Materials and Methods
Twenty-seven breast cancer patients with bone metastases were prospectively studied with fast Dixon-based WB MRI including head/neck, chest, abdominal, pelvic, thigh, calf/feet and either cervical, thoracic and lumbar or cervical/thoracic and thoracic/lumbar regions. Sequences included coronal T2, axial T1 without and with intravenous gadolinium (+ C), sagittal T1 spine + C, each associated fat-only (FO) and fat-saturated (FS) sequence, axial diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) and short tau inversion recovery (STIR). Blinded reviewers evaluated lesion conspicuity, a surrogate of clinical utility, on a five-point scale per anatomic region. Sequences were compared using analysis of variance, differences were detected with Tukey's honestly significant difference test, and the four sequences with highest mean conspicuity were compared to the remainder overall and per anatomic region. Results
Overall, a significant lesion conspicuity difference was found (P < .0001), and lesion conspicuity was significantly higher on FS T1 + C, FO T1 + C, T1 + C sagittal and FS T1 + C axial sequences (P < .0001). Per-region results were the same in the head/neck. Other sequences overlapped with these and included the following: chest/abdomen — FO T2, DWI; pelvis — DWI, FO T2; thigh — FS T2, FO T2, FO T1 + C; calf/feet — FS T2, DWI, FO T2, STIR.Conclusion
Overall, bone lesions were most conspicuous on FS T1 + C sagittal, FO T1 + C sagittal, T1 + C sagittal and FS T1 + C axial fast Dixon WB MRI sequences. 相似文献3.

Purpose
The purpose was to validate diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) in the assessment of hepatic metastases compared with superparamagnetic iron oxide (SPIO)-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging.Materials and Methods
For 21 consecutive patients with 160 metastases from extrahepatic malignancy and 25 benign focal lesions, two radiologists evaluated four separate review sessions (I, SPIO-enhanced T2?-weighted images; II, precontrast DWI; III, SPIO-enhanced T2?-weighted images and precontrast DWI; IV, SPIO-enhanced T2?-weighted images plus precontrast and SPIO-enhanced DWI) and assigned confidence levels using a five-grade scale for each hepatic lesion. Results
The Az values after receiver operating characteristic curve analysis for Reader 1 and Reader 2 were 0.80 and 0.75 on session I, 0.91 and 0.91 on session II, 0.97 and 0.96 on session III and 0.96 and 0.96 on session IV, respectively. The Az value of session II was significantly higher than that of session I (Reader 1, P=.004; Reader 2, P<.001), and that of session III was significantly higher than that of session I (P<.001 for each reader) or session II (Reader 1, P=.004; Reader 2, P=.003). Although there was no significant difference of Az value between session III and session IV (Reader 1, P=.231; Reader 2, P=.878), the sensitivity improved for session IV compared with that for session III (Reader 1, P=.031; Reader 2, P=.039).Conclusion
In the assessment of hepatic metastases, DWI can provide more accurate information than can SPIO-enhanced images. Diagnostic accuracy can be increased even more through the combination of both techniques. 相似文献4.

Purpose
The purpose was to describe magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings of breast cancer liver metastasis using gadoxetic acid (Gd-EOB-DTPA) with an emphasis on the added value of the hepatobiliary phase (HBP).Material and methods
Nine patients with 13 liver metastases were included in the study after the medical records of 29 breast cancer patients who underwent Gd-EOB-DTPA-enhanced MRI between February 2008 and June 2010 were reviewed. The diagnoses of liver metastasis were established by percutaneous liver biopsy or surgery and on the basis of image findings. Two radiologists retrospectively evaluated signal intensity (SI) and sizes of metastases and patterns of enhancement in an HBP. The SI ratio was calculated as the SI of the central hyperintense portion in “target” lesions divided by the SI of nearby normal liver parenchyma on the HBP. We also measured apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values from Diffusion Weighted Image (DWI).Results
Liver metastases were all hypointense [n=13/13 (100%)] on T1-weighted imaging (WI), and many lesions had a “target” appearance with a central high SI and a peripheral low SI rim (47%) on T2WI. Dynamic study showed rim enhancement on the arterial phase (85%) and a “target” appearance, consisting of a central enhancing portion with peripheral washout or hypointense rim, on the HBP (62%). The mean SI ratio was 0.7. The mean ADC value of “target” appearing metastases was 1.25 (×10−3 mm2/s; range 1.3–1.6) compared with a mean value of 0.8 (×10−3 mm2/s; range 0.8–1.4) in homogeneous defect on the HBP. There was statistically significant difference (P<.05).Conclusion
Breast cancer liver metastases commonly demonstrated as a peripheral ring enhancement on arterial dominant phase and a target sign with a central round enhancing portion and a peripheral hypointense rim on the HBP. 相似文献5.

Objective
Chemotherapy commonly causes liver injury through sinusoidal obstructive syndrome and steatosis. Chemotherapy-induced liver injury may make it more difficult to detect metastases secondary to reduced contrast between the injured liver and metastases. The aim of this study was to determine the sensitivity of superparamagnetic iron oxide (SPIO) contrast-enhanced imaging in patients who have undergone chemotherapy prior to liver surgery. Methods
Local ethics committee approval was obtained. Thirty-one patients with hepatic metastases completing preoperative chemotherapy were prospectively recruited. Images were reviewed independently by two blinded observers who identified and localized lesions with a four-point confidence scale. The alternative free-response receiver operator characteristic method was used to analyze the results. Results
The sensitivity in detecting colorectal metastases following chemotherapy was 78% and 76%, respectively, for observers 1 and 2 (95% confidence interval: 71%–85% and 68%–82%). The areas under the alternative free-response receiver operator curves were 0.73 and 0.80 for observers 1 and 2, respectively. Conclusion
Compared to previously published work on chemotherapy-naïve patients, it is clear that the sensitivity of SPIO-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in detecting colorectal metastases following chemotherapy is reduced. It is therefore critical that all imaging — pre-, during and postchemotherapy — is reviewed when reporting liver MRI prior to surgery. 相似文献6.

Background and Purpose
Diffusion MRI characteristics have been used as biomarkers to guide prognosis in cerebral pathologies including brain metastases. The measurement of ADC is often described poorly in clinical and research studies with little detail given to the practical considerations of where to place ROIs, which post processing software package to use and how reproducible the resulting metrics will be.Method
We investigated a series of 12 patients with brain metastases and preoperative DWI. Three post processing platforms were used. ROI were placed over the tumour, peritumoural region and across the brain-tumour interface. These recordings were made by a neurosurgeon and a neuroradiologist. Inter-intra-observer variability was assessed using Bland-Altman analysis. An exploratory analysis of DWI with overall survival and tumour type was made. Results
There was excellent correlation between the software packages used for all measures including assessing the whole tumour, selective regions with lowest ADC, the change of ADC across the brain-tumour interface and the relation of the tumour ADC to peritumoural regions and the normal white matter. There was no significant inter- or intra-observer variability for repeated readings. There were significant differences in the mean values obtained using different methodologies and different metrics had differing relationships to overall survival and primary tumour of origin. Conclusion
Diffusion weighted MRI metrics offer promise as potential non-invasive biomarkers in brain metastases and a variety of metrics have been shown to be reliably measured using differing platforms and observers. 相似文献7.

Objectives
To investigate and optimize diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) acquisitions for pancreatic cancer at 3.0 T.Methods
Forty-five patients with pancreatic cancer were examined by four DWI acquisitions with b values = 0 and 600 s/mm2 at 3.0 T, including breath-holding DWI (BH-DWI), respiratory-triggered DWI (TRIG-DWI), respiratory-triggered DWI with inversion–recovery technique (TRIGIR-DWI), and free-breathing DWI with inversion–recovery technique (FBIR-DWI). Artifacts, contrast ratio (CR), contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) of pancreatic cancer were statistically compared among DWI acquisitions. Results
TRIGIR-DWI displayed the lowest artifacts and highest CR compared to other DWI acquisitions. CNRs of pancreatic cancer in TRIG-DWI and TRIGIR-DWI were statistically higher than that in FBIR-DWI and BH-DWI. Different ADCs between pancreatic cancer and noncancerous pancreatic tissues were noticed by a paired-samples T test in TRIG-DWI (p = 0.017), TRIGIR-DWI (p = 0.00001) and FBIR-DWI (p = 0.000041).Conclusions
TRIGIR-DWI may be the optimal acquisition of DWI for pancreatic cancer at 3.0 T. 相似文献8.

Purpose
To investigate whether image quality can be improved using liquid perfluorocarbon pads (Sat Pad) and clarify the optimal fat-suppression method among chemical shift selective (CHESS), water excitation (WEX), and short TI inversion recovery (STIR) methods in diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) of the head and neck using 3-T magnetic resonance imaging. Correlations between results of visual inspection and quantitative analysis were also examined.Material and Methods
This study was approved by our Institutional Review Board and informed consent was waived. DWI was performed on 25 subjects with/without Sat Pad and using three fat-suppression methods (6 patterns). Image quality was evaluated visually (4-point scales and lesion-depiction capability) and by quantitative analysis (signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR)). Two-way repeated-measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to detect significant differences in scores of visual evaluation, SNR, and CNR.Results
Mean visual evaluation scores were significantly higher with Sat Pad using STIR than without Sat Pad for all fat-suppression methods (P < 0.05). DWI with Sat Pad using STIR tended to be useful for depicting lesions. DWI using STIR showed reduced W-SNR (W: whole area of depicted structure) and CNR (between semispinalis capitis muscle and subcutaneous fat) due to fewer artifacts and uniform fat suppression. Conclusion
Combining Sat Pad with STIR provides good image quality for visual inspections. When numerous artifacts are present and fat suppression is insufficient, higher SNR and CNR do not always provide good diagnostic image quality. 相似文献9.

Purpose
To assess the value of gadoxetic acid-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for the pre-therapeutic detection of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis with the combination of computed tomography (CT) arterial portography and CT hepatic arteriography (CTAP/CTHA).Materials and Methods
A total of 54 consecutive patients with 87 nodular HCCs were retrospectively analyzed. All HCC nodules were confirmed pathologically. Three blinded readers independently reviewed 432 hepatic segments, including 78 segments with 87 HCCs. Each reader read two sets of images: Set 1, CTAP/CTHA; Set 2, gadoxetic acid-enhanced MRI including a gradient dual-echo sequence and diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI). The ROC method was used to analyze the results. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value and sensitivity according to tumor size were evaluated. Results
For each reader, the area under the curve was significantly higher for Set 2 than for Set 1. The mean area under the curve was also significantly greater for Set 2 than for Set 1 (area under the curve, 0.98 vs. 0.93; P = .0009). The sensitivity was significantly higher for Set 2 than for Set 1 for all three readers (P = .012, .013 and .039, respectively). The difference in the specificity, positive predictive values and negative predictive values of the two modalities for each reader was not significant (P > .05).Conclusion
Gadoxetic acid-enhanced MRI including a gradient dual-echo sequence and DWI is recommended for the pre-therapeutic evaluation of patients with HCC. 相似文献10.
Purpose
The purpose of our study was to compare diffusion-weighted MR imaging (DWI) with conventional dynamic MRI in terms of the assessment of small intrahepatic metastases from hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).Materials and Methods
In 24 patients with multifocal, small (≤2 cm) intrahepatic metastatic foci of advanced HCC, a total of 134 lesions (≤1 cm, n=81; >1 cm, n=53) were subjected to a comparative analysis of hepatic MRI including static and gadopentetate dimeglumine-enhanced dynamic imaging, and DWI using a single-shot spin-echo echo-planar MRI (b values=50, 400 and 800 s/mm2), by two independent reviewers. Results
A larger number of the lesions were detected and diagnosed as intrahepatic metastases on DWI [Reviewer 1, 121 (90%); Reviewer 2, 117 (87%)] than on dynamic imaging [Reviewer 1, 107 (80%); Reviewer 2, 105 (78%)] (P<.05). For the 81 smaller lesions (≤1 cm), DWI was able to detect more lesions than dynamic imaging [Reviewer 1, 68 (84%) vs. 56 (69%), P=.008; Reviewer 2, 65 (80%) vs. 55 (68%), P=.031], but there was no statistically significant difference between the two image sets for larger (>1 cm) lesions. Conclusion
Due to its higher detection rate of subcentimeter lesions, DWI could be considered complementary to dynamic MRI in the diagnosis of intrahepatic metastases of HCCs. 相似文献11.

Purpose
To present proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy and diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) findings of central neurocytoma (CN).Methods and Materials
Imaging findings of seven patients with the histopathological diagnosis of CN (five male and two female; age range, 21–28 years of age) were evaluated retrospectively. In addition to conventional magnetic resonance imaging features, we also assessed the metabolite ratios and tumor normalized apparent diffusion coefficient (NADC), which was calculated by dividing the tumor apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values by normal ADC. Approval from our institutional review board was obtained for this review. Results
The tumor choline/creatine ratios were 5.17±2.38, while N-acetyl aspartate/choline and N-acetyl aspartate/creatine ratios were 0.33±0.15 and 1.84±1.38, respectively. On DWI, tumors had heterogeneous hyperintense appearances when compared with the contralateral parietal lobe white matter and tumor NADC values were 0.63±0.05.Conclusion
Significantly increased choline/creatine and decreased N-acetyl aspartate/choline ratios with lower NADC values in CN resemble high-grade gliomas and complicate the diagnosis. Familarity its physiologic features would help to presurgical diagnosis of ventricular and exraventricular CNs. 相似文献12.

Purpose
The purpose of this study was to determine whether or not adding diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DWI) to conventional magnetic resonance (MR) imaging sequences improves the characterization of small hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) (≤2 cm) in the setting of cirrhotic liver compared to conventional sequences alone.Materials and Methods
A total of 62 cirrhotic liver patients with 82 nodules smaller than 2 cm in diameter were enrolled, and all lesions were pathologically confirmed. For the first reading session, which included precontrast T1- and T2-weighted images and T1 dynamic contrast-enhanced images, preindicated lesions by a study coordinator were characterized by two radiologists. They determined the confidence levels in consensus for the presence of small HCC into four grades. In another session, respiratory-triggered diffusion-weighted MR images (b factor=50, 400 and 800 s/mm2) were added to the previously reviewed images, and the same two radiologists again determined the confidence levels. The diagnostic performance of the combined DWI–conventional sequences set and the conventional sequences alone set was evaluated using receiver operating characteristic curves. Sensitivity and specificity values for characterizing small HCCs were also calculated. Results
The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve for the second interpretation session (0.86) was significantly higher (P=.038) than that of the first session (0.76). The sensitivity was significantly increased from 75.7% to 87.8% by adding DWI to the conventional sequences (P=.015). No significant differences were observed for specificity values. Conclusion
Adding DWI to conventional imaging modalities improves the diagnosis of small HCCs in the cirrhotic liver in terms of diagnostic performance and sensitivity by increasing reader confidence. 相似文献13.

Purpose
To investigate the influence of dual-source parallel radiofrequency (RF) excitation on clinical breast MR images. Methods
A 3 T MR system with both dual-source and conventional single-source RF excitations was used to examine 22 patients. Axial TSE-T2WI with fat suppression, TSE-T1WI without fat suppression, THRIVE (3D field echo) and DWI (SE-EPI) were obtained by using both excitation techniques. Image homogeneity, image contrast and lesion conspicuity were measured or independently scored by two radiologists and were compared by paired-sample t test or Wilcoxon test. Results
Both excitations revealed 24 lesions. For SE sequences using dual-source mode, image homogeneity was improved (P = 0.00), scan time was reduced, and ghost artifacts on DWI were significantly reduced (P = 0.00). However, image contrast was not increased and lesion conspicuity had no significant difference between two modes, except DWI on which lesion conspicuity was significantly improved (P = 0.00), due to less ghost artifacts. For field-echo sequence, image homogeneity, acquisition time, image contrast and lesion conspicuity had no significant difference between the two modes. Conclusions
Dual-source parallel RF transmission has some added value for improving breast image quality. However, its value is limited in terms of improving lesion detection and characterization. 相似文献14.
Objective
The objective was to determine imaging features that distinguish small (≤3cm) solid pancreatic adenocarcinoma, neuroendocrine tumor (NET) and solid pseudopapillary tumor (SPT) on gadoxetic-acid-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and diffusion-weighed imaging (DWI).Materials and methods
Twenty-four adenocarcinomas, 10 NETs and 8 SPTs were retrospectively included. Two radiologists analyzed morphologic features, signal intensity of the tumors on MR images including DWI (b=800) and dynamic enhancement pattern with consensus. Tumor-to-parenchyma ratio and tumor apparent diffusion coefficients (ADCs) were quantitatively assessed. Results
All adenocarcinomas had an ill-defined margin and irregular shape, and more frequently had pancreatic duct dilatation compared with other tumors (P<.05). All SPTs and all but one of the adenocarcinomas (95.8%) had no arterial enhancement with progressively increased enhancement, whereas seven NETs (70%) had arterial enhancement with progressively decreased enhancement (P<.01). The mean value of tumor-to-parenchyma ratio on arterial and portal phases was significantly higher for NETs, and the mean value of tumor ADCs was significantly lower for SPTs than for other tumors (P<.05).Conclusions
Gadoxetic-acid-enhanced MRI may aid in differentiation between small adenocarcinomas, NETs and SPTs based on morphologic features with dynamic enhancement pattern in adenocarcinomas, dynamic enhancement pattern with tumor-to-parenchyma ration on arterial and portal phases in NETs, and dynamic enhancement pattern with lower ADC value in SPTs. 相似文献15.

Purpose
There are pros and cons to the use of gadoxetic acid in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) workup due to the potential for high false positive diagnosis. This study was conducted to investigate the preoperative diagnostic performance of gadoxetic acid-enhanced MRI protocol including diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) with emphasis on tumor characterization developed in high risk HCC patients.Materials and methods
We included 144 patients (102 men, 42 women; age range 33–74 years) with chronic viral hepatitis or cirrhosis and 183 focal hepatic tumors (size range, 0.4–11.0 cm; mean, 3.2 cm), including 148 HCCs, 13 cholangiocarcinomas, 12 hemangiomas, three hepatocellular adenomas, two focal nodular hyperplasias, and five other tumors. All patients underwent gadoxetic acid-enhanced MRI protocol with DWI. MRIs were independently interpreted by three observers for the detection and characterization of hepatic tumors. Results
Sensitivities for detecting all 183 liver tumors were 98.4%, 97.8%, and 96.2% for each observer, respectively, with a 97.5% for pooled data. Among 183 hepatic tumors, 91.3% (n = 167), 87.4% (n = 160), and 86.9% (n = 159) were correctly characterized according to their reference standard by each observer, respectively. In 13 cholangiocarcinomas, one to three were misinterpreted as HCC, and the remaining tumors were correctly characterized by each observer. The accuracies (Az) of MRI for HCC diagnosis were 0.952 for observer 1, 0.906 for observer 2, and 0.910 for observer 3, with 0.922 for pooled data. There was good inter-observer agreement. Conclusion
The gadoxetic acid-enhanced MRI including DWI showed a reasonable performance for tumor characterization with high sensitivity for tumor detection in patients with chronic liver disease, despite concerns of high false positive diagnosis of hypervascular tumors. 相似文献16.

Purpose
To investigate the image quality and detection rate of focal liver lesions by comparing a T2-weighted breath-hold single-shot sequence and a T2-weighted high spatial resolution fast spin-echo sequence with respiratory triggering via unenhanced and superparamagnetic iron oxide (SPIO)-enhanced liver imaging.Materials and Methods
The study was approved by the local ethical review board; informed consent was waived. Liver-lesion contrast was measured and a qualitative consensus evaluation of image quality and lesion detection was performed in 42 consecutive patients using a 1.5-T MR system. Results
The liver-lesion contrast was significantly higher (P<.05) for the respiratory-triggered sequence compared to the breath-hold sequence regarding unenhanced and SPIO-enhanced imaging. The respiratory-triggered sequences revealed significantly higher image quality scores as well as higher numbers of detected liver lesions compared to the breath-hold sequence on unenhanced and SPIO-enhanced imaging. The SPIO contrast did not significantly improve the number of detected lesions on the respective sequences (P>.05).Conclusion
We find that respiratory-triggered fast spin-echo sequences produce a higher image quality and a more precise liver-lesion detection rate thereby justifying the increased acquisition time necessary for this method. 相似文献17.
Purpose
The purpose of the study was to evaluate the value of high-resolution three-dimensional fast imaging employing steady-state acquisition (3D FIESTA) imaging in the visualization of neurovascular relationship in patients with trigeminal neuralgia (TN).Methods
Thirty-seven patients with unilateral typical TN underwent 3D FIESTA imaging. Neurovascular relationship at the trigeminal root entry zone was reviewed by an experienced neuroradiologist, who was blinded to the clinical details. The imaging results were compared with the operative findings in all patients. Results
In 37 patients with TN, 3D FIESTA imaging identified surgically verified neurovascular contact in 35 of 36 symptomatic nerves. Based on surgical findings, the sensitivity and specificity of magnetic resonance (MR) imaging were 97.2% and 100%, respectively. Agreement between the position (medial, lateral, superior and inferior) of the compressing vessel relative to the trigeminal nerve identified by MR imaging and surgery was excellent (K=0.81; 95% confidence interval, 0.56–1.00). A statistically significant difference was found between the site of neurovascular contact and the clinical symptom related to the trigeminal branch (Fisher's Exact Test, P<.001).Conclusions
Use of 3D FIESTA sequence enables accurate visualization of neurovascular contact in patients with TN. Anatomic relationships defined by this method can be useful in surgical planning and predicting surgical findings. 相似文献18.

Objective
Development of a fast 3D high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) protocol for improved carotid artery plaque imaging. Methods
Two patients with carotid atherosclerosis disease underwent 3D high-resolution MRI which included time-of-flight and T1-weighted variable flip angle, fast-spin-echo (FSE) imaging, pre- and post-intravenous gadolinium-based contrast agent administration. Results
Good quality images with intrinsic blood suppression were obtained pre- and post-contrast administration using a 3D FSE sequence. The plaque burden, lipid core volume, hemorrhage volume and fibrous cap thickness were well determined. Conclusions
3D high-resolution MR imaging of carotid plaque using TOF and 3D FSE can achieve high isotropic resolution, large coverage, and excellent image quality within a short acquisition time. 相似文献19.
Background
Since the advent of magnetic resonance imaging, metal artifacts have posed an important diagnostic problem in different fields of medicine. However, this has not been systematically studied in patients undergoing surgery for brain tumors. Objective
This study was planned to assess whether metal artifacts can occur in patients undergoing brain surgery without metallic implants. Methods
Of 40 individuals who could be included because of having a pre- and postoperative MRI and a postoperative computed tomography (CT) scan or a conventional skull X-ray for the detection of metallic artifacts, 26 patients agreed to participate in this study and gave informed consent. Results
Twenty-six subjects, 12 males and 14 females, with an age range of 12 to 54 years, were included in the study. Four patients were found to have gross metal particles in their postoperative brain CTs and were excluded. Of the remaining 22 subjects, 7 patients (31.8%) had metallic artifacts. Conclusion
Our study showed that simple bone drilling or chiseling during surgical manipulation of skull bones may result in separation of very tiny metal particles which can remain in the surgical site and cause artifacts in postoperative MRIs. This finding appeared to be independent of factors such as age, sex, tumor/incision site, tumor size, pathologic tumor type, total radiation dose, operation–MRI time interval and sequence of MRI. 相似文献20.
