Let B 1 be a ball in a non-compact rank-one symmetric space and let B 0 be a smaller ball inside it. It is shown that if y is the solution of the problem ?Δu = 1 in ${B_1 \setminus \bar{B_0}}$ vanishing on the boundary, then the Dirichlet-energy of y is minimal if and only if the balls are concentric. It is also shown that the first Dirichlet eigenvalue of the Laplacian on ${B_1 \setminus \bar{B_0}}$ is maximal if and only if the two balls are concentric. The formalism of Damek-Ricci harmonic spaces is used.  相似文献

This paper is devoted to asymptotic formulae for functions related with the spectrum of the negative Laplacian in two and three dimensional bounded simply connected domains with impedance boundary conditions, where the impedances are assumed to be discontinuous functions. Moreover, asymptotic expressions for the difference of eigenvalues related to the impedance problems with different impedances are derived. Further results may be obtained.  相似文献

Let be the th Neumann eigenvalue of a bounded domain with piecewisely smooth boundary in . In 1992, P. Kröger proved that , where the upper bound is sharp in view of Weyl's asymptotic formula. The aim of this paper is twofold. First, we will improve this estimate by multiplying a factor in terms of to its right-hand side which approaches strictly from below to 1 as tends to infinity. Second, we will generalize Kröger's estimate to the case when is a compact Euclidean submanifold.

In this paper, we find upper bounds for the eigenvalues of the Laplacian in the conformal class of a compact Riemannian manifold (M,g). These upper bounds depend only on the dimension and a conformal invariant that we call “min-conformal volume”. Asymptotically, these bounds are consistent with the Weyl law and improve previous results by Korevaar and Yang and Yau. The proof relies on the construction of a suitable family of disjoint domains providing supports for a family of test functions. This method is interesting for itself and powerful. As a further application of the method we obtain an upper bound for the eigenvalues of the Steklov problem in a domain with C1 boundary in a complete Riemannian manifold in terms of the isoperimetric ratio of the domain and the conformal invariant that we introduce.  相似文献

We study the first eigenvalue of the Laplacian acting on differential forms on a compact Riemannian domain, for the absolute or relative boundary conditions. We prove a series of lower bounds when the domain is starlike or p-convex and the ambient manifold has pinched negative curvature. The bounds are sharp for starlike domains. We then compute the asymptotics of the first eigenvalue of hyperbolic balls of large radius. Finally, we give lower bounds also for Euclidean domains.   相似文献

In this study, the bounds for eigenvalues of the Laplacian operator on an L-shaped domain are determined. By adopting some special functions in Goerisch method for lower bounds and in traditional Rayleigh–Ritz method for upper bounds, very accurate bounds to eigenvalues for the problem are obtained. Numerical results show that these functions can also be successfully used to solve the problem on the region with other reentrant angle.  相似文献
