Neighborhood unions and cyclability of graphs   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A graph G is said to be cyclable if for each orientation of G, there exists a set S of vertices such that reversing all the arcs of with one end in S results in a hamiltonian digraph. Let G be a 3-connected graph of order n36. In this paper, we show that if for any three independent vertices x1, x2 and x3, |N(x1)N(x2)|+|N(x2)N(x3)|+|N(x3)N(x1)|2n+1, then G is cyclable.  相似文献

Ore presented a degree condition involving every pair of nonadjacent vertices for a graph to be hamiltonian. Fan [New sufficient conditions for cycles in graphs, J. Combin. Theory Ser. B 37 (1984) 221-227] showed that not all the pairs of nonadjacent vertices are required, but only the pairs of vertices at the distance two suffice. Bedrossian et al. [A generalization of Fan's condition for hamiltonicity, pancyclicity, and hamiltonian connectedness, Discrete Math. 115 (1993) 39-50] improved Fan's result involving the pairs of vertices contained in an induced claw or an induced modified claw. On the other hand, Matthews and Sumner [Longest paths and cycles in K1,3-free graphs, J. Graph Theory 9 (1985) 269-277] gave a minimum degree condition for a claw-free graph to be hamiltonian. In this paper, we give a new degree condition in an induced claw or an induced modified claw ensuring the hamiltonicity of graphs which extends both results of Bederossian et al. and Matthews and Sumner.  相似文献

A graph G is called k-degenerate if every subgraph of G has a vertex of degree at most k. A k-degenerate graph G is maximal k-degenerate if for every edge e ? E(G), G + e is not k-degenerate. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the sequence II = (d1, d2, ?, dp) to be a degree sequence of a maximal k-degenerate graph G are presented. © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Let G be a graph with vertex-set V(G) and edge-set X(G). Let L(G) and T(G) denote the line graph and total graph of G. The middle graph M(G) of G is an intersection graph Ω(F) on the vertex-set V(G) of any graph G. Let F = V′(G) ∪ X(G) where V′(G) indicates the family of all one-point subsets of the set V(G), then M(G) = Ω(F).The quasi-total graph P(G) of G is a graph with vertex-set V(G)∪X(G) and two vertices are adjacent if and only if they correspond to two non-adjacent vertices of G or to two adjacent edges of G or to a vertex and an edge incident to it in G.In this paper we solve graph equations L(G) ? P(H); L(G) ? P(H); P(G) ? T(H); P(G) ? T(H); M(G) ? P(H); M(G) ? P(H).  相似文献

Given a set F of digraphs, we say a graph G is a F-graph (resp., F*-graph) if it has an orientation (resp., acyclic orientation) that has no induced subdigraphs isomorphic to any of the digraphs in F. It is proved that all the classes of graphs mentioned in the title are F-graphs or F*-graphs for subsets F of a set of three digraphs.  相似文献

In this paper we examine the connections between equistable graphs, general partition graphs and triangle graphs. While every general partition graph is equistable and every equistable graph is a triangle graph, not every triangle graph is equistable, and a conjecture due to Jim Orlin states that every equistable graph is a general partition graph. The conjecture holds within the class of chordal graphs; if true in general, it would provide a combinatorial characterization of equistable graphs.Exploiting the combinatorial features of triangle graphs and general partition graphs, we verify Orlin’s conjecture for several graph classes, including AT-free graphs and various product graphs. More specifically, we obtain a complete characterization of the equistable graphs that are non-prime with respect to the Cartesian or the tensor product, and provide some necessary and sufficient conditions for the equistability of strong, lexicographic and deleted lexicographic products. We also show that the general partition graphs are not closed under the strong product, answering a question by McAvaney et al.  相似文献

Let precedes, equal to be the induced-minor relation. It is shown that, for every t, all chordal graphs of clique number at most t are well-quasi-ordered by precedes, equal to. On the other hand, if the bound on clique number is dropped, even the class of interval graphs is not well-quasi-ordered by precedes, equal to. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. We construct decompositions of L(Kn), M(Kn) and T(Kn) into the minimum number of line-disjoint spanning forests by applying the usual criterion for a graph to be eulerian. This gives a realization of the arboricity of each of these three graphs.  相似文献

A (finite or infinite) graph G is constructible if there exists a well‐ordering ≤ of its vertices such that for every vertex x which is not the smallest element, there is a vertex y < x which is adjacent to x and to every neighbor z of x with z < x. Particular constructible graphs are Helly graphs and connected bridged graphs. In this paper we study a new class of constructible graphs, the class of locally Helly graphs. A graph G is locally Helly if, for every pair (x,y) of vertices of G whose distance is d2, there exists a vertex whose distance to x is d ? 1 and which is adjacent to y and to all neighbors of y whose distance to x is at most d. Helly graphs are locally Helly, and the converse holds for finite graphs. Among different properties we prove that a locally Helly graph is strongly dismantable, hence cop‐win, if and only if it contains no isometric rays. We show that a locally Helly graph G is finitely Helly, that is, every finite family of pairwise non‐disjoint balls of G has a non‐empty intersection. We give a sufficient condition by forbidden subgraphs so that the three concepts of Helly graphs, of locally Helly graphs and of finitely Helly graphs are equivalent. Finally, generalizing different results, in particular those of Bandelt and Chepoi 1 about Helly graphs and bridged graphs, we prove that the Helly number h(G) of the geodesic convexity in a constructible graph G is equal to its clique number ω(G), provided that ω(G) is finite. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We introduce a simple new technique which allows us to solve several problems that can be formulated as seeking a suitable orientation of a given undirected graph. In particular, we use this technique to recognize and transitively orient comparability graphs, to recognize and represent proper circular arc graphs, and to recognize and represent proper interval graphs. As a consequence, we derive and represent proper interval graphs. As a consequence, we derive simple new proofs of a theorem of Ghouila-Houri and a theorem of Skrien. Our algorithms are conceptually simpler than (and often of comparable efficiency to) the existing algorithms for these problems. © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

The purpose of this article is to offer new insight and tools toward the pursuit of the largest chromatic number in the class of thicknesstwo graphs. At present, the highest chromatic number known for a thickness‐two graph is 9, and there is only one known color‐critical such graph. We introduce 40 small 9‐critical thickness‐two graphs, and then use a newconstruction, the permuted layer graphs, together with a construction of Hajós to create an infinite family of 9‐critical thickness‐two graphs. Finally, a non‐trivial infinite subfamily of Catlin's graphs, with directly computable chromatic numbers, is shown to have thickness two. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Partitionable graphs have been studied by a number of authors in conjunction with attempts at proving the Berge Strong Perfect Graph Conjecture (SPGC). We give some new properties of partitionable graphs which can be used to give a new proof that the SPGC holds for K1,3-free graphs. Finally, we will show that the SPGC also holds for the class of circle graphs.  相似文献
