For the precision synthesis of primary amino functional polymers, cationic polymerization of a phthalimide‐containing vinyl ether monomer precursor, 2‐vinyloxyethyl phthalimide (PIVE), was examined using a base‐assisting initiating system. Living polymerization of PIVE in CH2Cl2 in the presence of 1,4‐dioxane as an added base yielded nearly monodispersed polymers (Mw/Mn < 1.1) and higher molecular weight polymers, which have never been obtained using other initiating systems. Furthermore, block copolymers with hydrophobic or hydrophilic groups could be prepared. The deprotection of the pendant phthalimide groups gave well‐defined pH‐responsive polymers with pendant primary amino groups. Dual‐stimuli–responsive block copolymers having a pH‐responsive polyamine segment and a thermosensitive segment self‐assembled in water in response to both pH and temperature. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This article discusses a facile and inexpensive reaction process for preparing polypropylene‐based graft copolymers containing an isotactic polypropylene (i‐PP) main chain and several functional polymer side chains. The chemistry involves an i‐PP polymer precursor containing several pendant vinylbenzene groups, which is prepared through the Ziegler–Natta copolymerization of propylene and 1,4‐divinylbenzene mediated by an isospecific MgCl2‐supported TiCl4 catalyst. The selective monoenchainment of 1,4‐divinylbenzene comonomers results in pendant vinylbenzene groups quantitatively transformed into benzyl halides by hydrochlorination. In the presence of CuCl/pentamethyldiethylenetriamine, the in situ formed, multifunctional, polymeric atom transfer radical polymerization initiators carry out graft‐from polymerization through controlled radical polymerization. Some i‐PP‐based graft copolymers, including poly(propylene‐g‐methyl methacrylate) and poly(propylene‐g‐styrene), have been prepared with controlled compositions. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A simple and facile strategy for the functionalization of commercial poly(ε‐caprolactone) diols (PCLs) with pendant functionalities at the polymer chain termini is described. Well‐defined allyl‐functionalized PCLs with varying numbers of allyl end‐block side‐groups were synthesized by cationic ring‐opening polymerization of allyl glycidyl ether using PCL diols as macroinitiators. Further functionalization of the allyl‐functionalized PCLs was realized via the UV‐initiated radical addition of a furan‐functionalized thiol to the pendant allyl functional groups, showing the suitability for post‐modification of the PCL materials. Changes in polymer structure as a result of varying the number of pendant functional units at the PCL chain termini were demonstrated. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. An asymmetric bifunctional monomer having both an unprotected alkynyl group and a vinyl ether (VE) group (3‐[2‐(2‐vinyloxyethoxy)‐ethoxy]‐propyne [VEEP]) was newly designed and found that the polymerization of VEEP smoothly proceeded in a controlled manner under a living cationic polymerization condition to give alkyne‐substituted polyVE (polyVEEP) without any protection of the pendant alkynyl function. Next, the use of an initiator with a methacryloyl moiety for the living cationic polymerization of VEEP afforded macromonomer‐type polyVE (MA‐PVEEP) carrying pendant alkynyl groups. The potential ability of the resultant macromonomer as an alkyne‐substituted polymer for the copper(I)‐catalyzed alkyne‐azide cycloaddition (CuAAC) was also confirmed. A novel macromonomer‐type glycopolymer [MA‐P(VE‐Mal)] having pendant maltose residues and a terminal methacryloyl group was successfully synthesized by CuAAC of MA‐PVEEP with maltosyl azide. Thus, a new pathway to the controlled synthesis of macromonomer‐type glycopolymers of free from any protecting/deprotecting processes was demonstrated. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Four kinds of functional polyethylene carrying thioester pendants were synthesized via ring‐opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) of alkyl cyclopent‐3‐enecarbothioate catalyzed by a ruthenium‐based commercial catalyst and subsequent hydrogenation of the ROMP products (alkyl = ethyl, n‐butyl, n‐octyl, or n‐dodecyl). In these polymers the pendant alkyl thioester groups are precisely distributed along the backbone on every five methylene carbons. Chain structure, molecular weight and molecular weight distribution of the polymers were characterized by 1H and 13C NMR, and GPC. The ROMP reactions all reached high monomer conversions, and hydrogenation of the ROMP products were exhaustive. Thermal transitions and side chain crystallization behaviors of the polymer were investigated and characterized by DSC and TGA. Glass transition temperature and melting temperature of these polymers were higher than the counterparts containing ester pendants. TGA analysis indicated that all the thioester‐containing polymers exhibited moderate thermal stability, and the sulfur‐containing polymers show slightly lower thermal stability than their counterparts without sulfur. The new family of functionalized polyethylenes could be used as models of ethylene‐thioacrylate copolymers, and find applications as novel functional materials. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Nanocomposites of sodium smectite with polyether‐ and polystyrene‐containing pendant cyclic carbonates offer a novel approach to improving hydraulic barrier properties of Na‐smectite liners to saline leachates. The cyclic carbonate polyethers were prepared by cationic ring opening polymerization of a cyclic carbonate‐containing epoxide, whilst polystyrene polymers having pendant cyclic carbonate groups were obtained from radical photopolymerization of styrene. Na‐smectite nanocomposites of these polymers were formed via clay in situ polymerization and solution intercalation methods. X‐ray diffraction (XRD) and FT‐IR analysis confirmed that the polyether can be intercalated within the layers of smectite via in situ as well as solution intercalation of the pre‐formed polymer. The cyclic carbonate polyether nanocomposite was more resistant to leaching in 3M aqueous sodium chloride than its respective cyclic carbonate. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. A series of new alkyl mono‐ and bimetallic aluminum complexes supported by novel amidinate ligands has been prepared in very high yields. These complexes were fully characterized by spectroscopic methods. Alkyl aluminum complexes 1 – 6 were investigated as catalysts for the ring‐opening polymerization and copolymerization of ε‐caprolactone and L‐lactide. Under the optimal reaction conditions, complex 5 acts as an efficient single‐component initiator for the ring‐opening polymerization and copolymerization of cyclic esters to yield biodegradable polyester materials with narrow polydispersities. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. New styryl‐type water‐insoluble and methacryloyl‐type water‐soluble monomers, N‐(p‐vinylbenzyl)‐1,2‐O‐isopropylidene‐6‐D ‐glucofuranuronamide and N‐(2‐methacryloylamino)ethyl‐1,2‐O‐isopropylidene‐6‐D ‐glucofuranuronamide, were synthesized from the most common acidic saccharide, D ‐glucuronic acid. Their radical homopolymerizations and copolymerizations with styrene and acrylamide were tried under various conditions. The isopropylidene groups in the resulting polymers were removed in a mixture of trifluoroacetic acid and water (2/1 v/v) to give the corresponding polymers with many pendant D ‐glucopyranuronyl groups with reactive reducing groups. The pendant reducing ends may be useful as potential binding sites under a hydrophilic atmosphere. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 39: 3893–3901, 2001  相似文献

A novel ABA triblock copolymer comprising double‐bond‐containing poly(phenoxyallene) (PPOA) and polystyrene (PS) segments was synthesized by sequential conventional free radical polymerization and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) via the site transformation strategy. A new bifunctional initiator containing azo and Br‐containing ATRP initiating groups was prepared using 2‐bromopropionyl chloride, hydroquinone, and 4,4′‐azobis(4‐cyanopentanoic acid) as starting materials. Conventional free radical homopolymerization of phenoxyallene with cumulated double bond was performed in toluene to provide a polyallene‐based macroinitiator bearing ATRP initiating groups at both ends, which is stable under UV irradiation and free radical circumstances. PS‐b‐PPOA‐b‐PS triblock copolymer was then obtained by bulk ATRP of styrene initiated by PPOA‐based macroinitiator. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. In this contribution, three polymerizable benzophenone photoinitiators containing maleimide group including 4‐maleimidebenzophenone (MBP), 4‐chlorine‐4′‐maleimide benzophenone (CMBP), and 4‐maleimide‐4′‐[(4‐maleimide)thiophenyl]benzophenone (MMTBP) were designed and synthesized to enhance the polymerization degree of photosensitive polysiloxane containing methacryloxy active groups (MAPSO). The polymerization behaviors of the MAPSO cured by different photoinitiators were investigated using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR). It was noted that the MAPSO initiated by MMTBP showed a high carbon–carbon double bond conversion above 80% because of the existence of thiophenyl group which could generate more radicals from the photolysis reaction at the C? S bond. In addition, the thermal stability of the UV‐cured MAPSO were studied by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), the result showed that the initial 5% mass loss (T 5%) and residual weight percent at 800 °C in nitrogen of the UV‐cured MAPSO initiated by MMTBP systems was 200 °C and 33.8%. Thus, this work provides a new perspective and efficient strategy to improve the polymerization degree of UV‐curable polysiloxanes with carbon–carbon double bonds. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. The main objective of the presented research was to synthesise biodegradable aliphatic polycarbonates containing reactive carboxyl pendant groups and to examine the influence of the copolymer chain microstructure and composition on the process of their hydrolytic degradation and cytocompatibility. The work describes copolymerization of cyclic trimethylene carbonate derivative containing benzyl‐ester pendant group (benzyl 5‐methyl‐2‐oxo‐1,3‐dioxane‐5‐carboxylate) with trimethylene carbonate. The copolymerization was conducted with the use of zinc (II) and lanthanum (III) acetylacetonates as ring‐opening polymerization coordination initiators. Detailed NMR analysis allowed to define the microstructure of the obtained copolymers, which depended on the composition and type of used initiator. The final tapered chain microstructure of the obtained copolymers was related to huge differences in comonomers reactivity and evidenced low level of transesterification of the main copolymer backbone. Chosen copolymers, with unprotected carbonyl groups, were subjected to in vitro degradation test and cytocompatibility studies. It was found that high concentration of carboxyl groups resulted in copolymers which formed hydrogels and were very prone to hydrolytic degradation; they were also cytotoxic toward osteoblast‐like MG 63 cells. Copolymers with lower content of carboxyl groups were found less susceptible to degradation and cytocompatible with studied cells. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. The macroinitiator of a copolymer (PMDBTM) of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and 2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate (DAMA) with 4‐benzyloxy‐2,2,6,6‐tetramethyl‐1‐piperidinyloxy (BTEMPO) pendant groups was prepared by the photochemical reaction of tertiary amine groups of the copolymer with benzophenone in the presence of BTEMPO. The radical copolymerization of MMA and DAMA was carried out first with azo‐bis‐isobutyronitrile (AIBN) as an initiator; then, the dimethylamine groups of the copolymer constituted a charge‐transfer complex with benzophenone under UV irradiation, and the methylene of ternary amine and diphenyl methanol radicals were produced. The former was capped by BTEMPO, and the nitroxide (BTEMPO) was attached to the polymeric backbone. The amount of pendant BTEMPO on PMDBTM was measured by 1H NMR. PMDBTM initiated the graft polymerization of styrene via a controlled radical mechanism, and the molecular weight of the PMD‐g‐polystyrene increased with the polymerization time. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A well‐defined amphiphilic graft copolymer, poly(6‐methyl‐1,2‐heptadien‐4‐ol)‐g‐poly(2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate) (PMHDO‐g‐PDMAEMA), has been synthesized by the combination of living coordination polymerization, single electron transfer‐living radical polymerization (SET‐LRP), and the grafting‐from strategy. PMHDO backbone containing double bonds and pendant hydroxyls was first prepared by [(η3‐allyl)NiOCOCF3]2‐initiated living coordination polymerization of 6‐methyl‐1,2‐heptadien‐4‐ol (MHDO) followed by treating the pendant hydroxyls with 2‐chloropropionyl chloride to give PMHDO‐Cl macroinitiator. SET‐LRP of 2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA) was performed in THF/H2O using PMHDO‐Cl as macroinitiator and CuCl/Me6TREN as catalytic system to afford the well‐defined PMHDO‐g‐PDMAEMA graft copolymer with a narrow molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn = 1.28). The grafting density was as high as 92%. The critical micelle concentration (cmc) in water was determined by fluorescence probe technique and the micellar morphology was preliminarily explored by transmission electron microscopy. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel degradable inimer for atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP), 2‐(6‐(2‐((2‐bromo‐2‐methylpropanoyl)oxy)ethyl)pyridin‐2‐yl)ethyl methacrylate (PyDEBrMΑ), was synthesized by the two‐step esterification of 2,6‐pyridinediethanol, first with α‐bromoisobutyryl bromide in order to introduce the initiator moiety, and then with methacryloyl chloride in order to introduce the monomer moiety. PyDEBrMA was subsequently used to initiate the self‐condensing ATRP of methyl methacrylate (MMA) to obtain a hyperbranched MMA homopolymer which could be cleaved at the PyDEBrMA residue either by treatment under mildly alkaline hydrolysis conditions (sodium deuteroxide in d6‐DMSO at room temperature) or thermolysis at 150 °C. The lability of the PyDEBrMA residue arises from the presence in its structure of two 2‐(pyridin‐2‐yl)ethyl ester moieties. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. A few N‐alkoxypyridinium salts are developed as photoinitiators for efficient polymerization reactions. They are characterized by absorption properties below 300 nm, and generate alkoxy radicals on UV‐Vis light exposure. The squarylium dye was used as a blue‐light photosensitizer. Polymerization results are correlated with the photochemistry of N‐alkoxypyridinium salts. The quenching of the excited singlet state of squarylium dye by pyridinium salt and the formation of the semioxidized species of squaraine suggests an electron transfer from an excited dye to a coinitiator, and that the resulting oxygen‐centered radical initiates the polymerization process. The chemical mechanism was investigated by steady state photolysis and nanosecond laser flash photolysis experiments. Photoinitiating activity of new photoinitiators for initiation of polymerization of trimethylolpropane triacrylate in the UV‐blue light region was compared with photoinitiating ability of selected commercially available initiators. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Here we report on the coordination polymerization of a vinyl‐functionalized butadiene monomer, 3‐methylenehepta‐1,6‐diene (MHD) with exclusive conjugated diene chemoselectivity, high 1,2‐regioselectivity and moderate isotacticity (1,2‐selectivity > 99%, mm triad = 93%). Random copolymers of MHD and other conjugated diene (isoprene or myrcene) are also synthesized. The pendent vinyl groups of MHD homo or copolymers could be quantitatively converted into various functional groups via thiol‐ene click reaction. The resulting functionalized polybutadiene‐based material display versatile thermal and surface properties. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. This paper describes the synthesis of a novel monomer of 5‐substituted cyclooctene with the pendant of imidazolium salt (7) and the ring‐opening metathesis polymerization of the functionalized cyclooctenes ( 4 and 7 ) in CH2Cl2 and ionic liquid [bmim][PF6] by a ruthenium‐based catalyst RuCl2(PCy3)(SIMes)(CHPh) (2). The polymerization, which was carried out in ionic liquid, afforded improved control over the molecular weight (Mn) and polydispersity of the resultant products (PDI <1.4). Furthermore, to facilitate the GPC measurement for molecular weight of polymers, the charged polymers (poly‐ 7 ) were hydrolyzed to give uncharged polymers (poly‐ 4 *) by removing the imidazolium pendant from the polymer chains. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Herein, we clarified the ring-expansion cationic polymerization with a cyclic hemiacetal ester (HAE)-based initiator was versatile in terms of applicable vinyl ether monomers. Although there was a risk that higher reactive vinyl ethers may incur β-H elimination of the HAE-based cyclic dormant species to irreversibly give linear chains, the polymerizations were controlled to give corresponding cyclic polymers from various alkyl vinyl ethers of different reactivities. Functional vinyl ether monomers were also available, and for instance a vinyl ether monomer carrying an initiator moiety for metal-catalyzed living radical polymerization in the pendant allowed construction of ring-linear graft copolymers through the grafting-from approach. Furthermore, ring-based gel was prepared via the addition of divinyl ether at the end of the ring-expansion polymerization, where multi HAE bonds cyclic polymers or fused rings were crosslinked with each other. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The anionic ring‐opening polymerization of oxetanes containing hydroxyl groups was carried out with potassium tert‐butoxide as an initiator in the presence of 18‐crown‐6‐ether in N‐methylpyrrolidinone at 180 °C; it yielded corresponding multifunctional hyperbranched polymers: poly(3‐ethyl‐3‐hydroxymethyloxetane)s, with number‐average molecular weights of 2200–4100 in 83–95% yields, and poly(3‐methyl‐3‐hydroxymethyloxetane)s, with number‐average molecular weights of 4600–5200 in 70–95% yields. The synthesized poly(3‐ethyl‐3‐hydroxymethyloxetane)s and poly(3‐methyl‐3‐hydroxymethyloxetane)s were hyperbranched polyethers containing an oxetane moiety and many hydroxy groups at the ends. The postpolymerization of poly(3‐ethyl‐3‐hydroxymethyloxetane)s was performed in the presence of potassium tert‐butoxide and 18‐crown‐6‐ether in N‐methylpyrrolidinone at 180 °C; it yielded corresponding polymers with higher molecular weights in good yields. The cationic polymerization of poly(3‐ethyl‐3‐hydroxymethyloxetane) derivatives was carried out with boron trifluoride etherate as an initiator and was followed by alkaline hydrolysis; this yielded a new branched polymer, a poly(hyperbranched polyether), with many pendant hydroxy groups. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Cationic polymerization of α‐methyl vinyl ethers was examined using an IBEA‐Et1.5AlCl1.5/SnCl4 initiating system in toluene in the presence of ethyl acetate at 0 ~ ?78 °C. 2‐Ethylhexyl 2‐propenyl ether (EHPE) had a higher reactivity, compared to corresponding vinyl ethers. But the resulting polymers had low molecular weights at 0 or ?50 °C. In contrast, the polymerization of EHPE at ?78 °C almost quantitatively proceeded, and the number‐average molecular weight (Mn) of the obtained polymers increased in direct proportion to the EHPE conversion with quite narrow molecular weight distributions (weight‐average molecular weight/number‐average molecular weight ≤ 1.05). In monomer‐addition experiments, the Mn of the polymers shifted higher with low polydispersity as the polymerization proceeded, indicative of living polymerization. In the polymerization of methyl 2‐propenyl ether (MPE), the living‐like propagation also occurred under the reaction conditions similar to those for EHPE, but the elimination of the pendant methoxy groups was observed. The introduction of a more stable terminal group, quenched with sodium diethyl malonate, suppressed this decomposition, and the living polymerization proceeded. The glass transition temperature of the obtained poly(MPE) was 34 °C, which is much higher than that of the corresponding poly(vinyl ether). This poly(MPE) had solubility characteristics that differed from those of poly(vinyl ethers). © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 46: 2202–2211, 2008  相似文献
