Novel poly(methacrylamide‐co‐2‐acrylamido‐2‐methyl‐ 1‐propanesulfonic acid) (poly(MAAm‐co‐AMPS)) hydrogels were synthesized by free radical polymerization of methacrylamide (MAAm) and 2‐acrylamido‐2‐methyl‐1‐propanesulfonic acid (AMPS) in deionized water at 60 °C by using ammonium peroxydisulfate (APS), N,N′‐methylenebisacrylamide (MBAAm) and N,N,N′,N′‐tetramethylethylenediamine (TEMED) as initiator, crosslinker, and activator, respectively. To investigate the effects of feed content on the pH‐ and temperature‐dependent swelling behavior of poly(MAAm‐co‐AMPS), molar ratio of MAAm to AMPS in feed was varied from 90/10 to 10/90. Structural characterization of gels was performed by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy using attenuated total reflectance (ATR) technique. Thermal and morphological characterizations of gels were performed by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), respectively. Although an apparent pH‐sensitivity was not observed for the poly(MAAm‐co‐AMPS) gels during the swelling in different buffer solutions, their temperature‐sensitivity became more evident with the increase in AMPS content of copolymer. Thermal stability of poly(MAAm‐co‐AMPS) gels increased with MAAm content. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys, 2010  相似文献

The controlled/living radical polymerization of 2‐(N‐carbazolyl)ethyl methacrylate (CzEMA) and 4‐(5‐(4‐tert‐butylphenyl‐1,3,4‐oxadiazol‐2‐yl)phenyl) methacrylate (t‐Bu‐OxaMA) via reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer polymerization has been studied. Functional polymers with hole‐ or electron‐transfer ability were synthesized with cumyl dithiobenzoate as a chain transfer agent (CTA) and AIBN as an initiator in a benzene solution. Good control of the polymerization was confirmed by the linear increase in the molecular weight (MW) with the conversion. The dependence of MW and polydispersity index (PDI) of the resulting polymers on the molar ratio of monomer to CTA, monomer concentration, and molar ratio of CTA to initiator has also been investigated. The MW and PDI of the resulting polymers were well controlled as being revealed by GPC measurements. The resulting polymers were further characterized by NMR, UV‐vis spectroscopy, and cyclic voltammetry. The polymers functionalized with carbazole group or 1,3,4‐oxadiazole group exhibited good thermal stability, with an onset decomposition temperature of about 305 and 323 °C, respectively, as determined by thermogravimetric analysis. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Well‐defined H‐shaped pentablock copolymers composed of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM), poly(N,N‐dimethylaminoethylacrylamide) (PDMAEMA), and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) with the chain architecture of (A/B)‐b‐C‐b‐(A/B) were synthesized by the combination of single‐electron‐transfer living radical polymerization, atom‐transfer radical polymerization, and click chemistry. Single‐electron‐transfer living radical polymerization of NIPAM using α,ω azide‐capped PEG macroinitiator resulted in PNIPAM‐b‐PEG‐b‐PNIPAM with azide groups at the block joints. Atom‐transfer radical polymerization of DMAEMA initiated by propargyl 2‐chloropropionate gave out α‐capped alkyne‐PDMAEMA. The H‐shaped copolymers were finally obtained by the click reaction between PNIPAM‐b‐PEG‐b‐PNIPAM and alkyne‐PDMAEMA. These copolymers were used to prepare stable colloidal gold nanoparticles (GNPs) in aqueous solution without any external reducing agent. The formation of GNPs was affected by the length of PDMAEMA block, the feed ratio of the copolymer to HAuCl4, and the pH value. The surface plasmon absorbance of these obtained GNPs also exhibited pH and thermal dependence because of the existence of PNIAPM and PDAMEMA blocks. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(N‐acryloxysuccinimide) (PNAS) and poly(N‐acryloxysuccinimide‐coN‐vinylpyrrolidone) (P(NAS‐co‐NVP)) of adjustable molecular weights and narrow polydispersities were prepared by nitroxide‐mediated polymerization (NMP) in N,N‐dimethylformamide in the presence of free SG1 (Ntert‐butyl‐N‐1‐diethylphosphono‐(2,2‐dimethylpropyl) nitroxide), with MAMA‐SG1 (N‐(2‐methylpropyl)‐N‐(1‐diethylphosphono‐2,2‐dimethylpropyl)‐O‐(2‐carboxylprop‐2‐yl)hydroxylamine) alkoxyamine as initiator. The reactivity ratios of NAS and NVP were determined to be rNAS = 0.12 and rNVP = 0, indicating a strong alternating tendency for the P(NAS‐co‐NVP) copolymer. NAS/NVP copolymerization was then performed from a SG1‐functionalized poly(D ,L ‐lactide) (PLA‐SG1) macro‐alkoxyamine as initiator, leading to the corresponding PLA‐b‐P(NAS‐co‐NVP) block copolymer, with similar NAS and NVP reactivity ratios as mentioned above. The copolymer was used as a surface modifier for the PLA diafiltration and nanoprecipitation processes to achieve nanoparticles in the range of 450 and 150 nm, respectively. The presence of the functional/hydrophilic P(NAS‐co‐NVP) block, and particularly the N‐succinimidyl (NS) ester moieties at the particle surface, was evidenced by ethanolamine derivatization and zeta potential measurements. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Radical polymerization of N‐methylacrylamide (NMAAm), N,N‐dimethylacrylamide (DMAAm), and N‐methyl‐N‐phenylacrylamide (MPhAAm) was investigated in toluene at low temperatures. Atactic, isotactic, and syndiotactic polymers were obtained by the polymerization of NMAAm, DMAAm, and MPhAAm, respectively, indicating that the stereospecificity of the radical polymerization of acrylamide derivatives depended on the N‐substituents of the monomer used. From the viewpoint of monomer structure, the origin of the stereospecificity of radical polymerization of NMAAm derivatives is discussed. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this study, the polymerization of (2‐hydroxyethyl) acrylate (HEA), in polar media, using Cu(0)‐mediated radical polymerization also called single‐electron transfer–living radical polymerization (SET‐LRP) is reported. The kinetics aspects of both the homopolymerization and the copolymerization from a poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) macroinitiator were analyzed by 1H NMR. The effects of both the ligand and the solvent were studied. The polymerization was shown to reach very high monomer conversions and to proceed in a well‐controlled fashion in the presence of tris[2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl]amine Me6‐TREN and N, N,N′, N″, N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine (PMDETA) in dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO). SET‐LRP of HEA was also led in water, and it was shown to be faster than in DMSO. In pure water, Me6‐TREN allowed a better control over the molar masses and polydispersity indices than PMDETA and TREN. Double hydrophilic PEO‐b‐PHEA block copolymers, exhibiting various PHEA block lengths up to 100 HEA units, were synthesized, in the same manner, from a bromide‐terminated PEO macroinitiator. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The radical polymerization of Ntert‐butyl‐N‐allylacrylamide (t‐BAA) was carried out in a dimethyl sulfoxide/H2O mixture in the presence of β‐cyclodextrin (β‐CD). The polymerization proceeded with the complete cyclization of the t‐BAA unit and yielded optically active poly(t‐BAA). The IR spectrum of the obtained polymer showed that the cyclic structure in the polymer was a five‐membered ring. The optical activity of poly(t‐BAA) increased with an increasing molar ratio of β‐CD to the t‐BAA monomer. The interaction of β‐CD with t‐BAA was confirmed by 1H NMR and 13C NMR analyses of the polymerization system. It is suggested that interaction of the t‐BAA monomer with the hydrophobic cavity of β‐CD plays an important role in the asymmetric cyclopolymerization of t‐BAA. The radical copolymerization of t‐BAA with styrene (St), methyl methacrylate, ethyl methacrylate, or benzyl methacrylate (BMA) also produced optically active copolymers with a cyclic structure from the t‐BAA unit. St and BMA carrying a phenyl group were predicted to compete with t‐BAA for interaction with β‐CD in the copolymerization system. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Copolymers of 2‐methylene‐1,3‐dioxepane (MDO) and methyl acrylate (MA) containing ester units both in the backbone and as pendant groups were synthesized by free‐radical copolymerization. The influence of reaction conditions such as the polymerization time, temperature, initiator concentration, and comonomer feed ratio on the yield, molecular weight, and copolymer composition was investigated. The structure of the copolymers was confirmed by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and IR spectroscopy. Differential scanning calorimetry indicated that the copolymers had a random structure. An NMR study showed that hydrogen transfer occurred during the copolymerization. The reactivity ratios of the comonomers were rMDO = 0.0235 and rMA = 26.535. The enzymatic degradation of the copolymers obtained was carried out in the presence of proteinase K or a crude enzyme extracted from earthworms. The experimental results showed that the higher ester molar percentage in the backbone caused a faster degradation rate. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. N‐Substituted glycine N‐thiocarboxyanhydrides (NNTAs) are promising cyclic monomers to synthesize polypeptoids with the advantages of easier preparation and higher stability during purification and storage than N‐substituted glycine N‐carboxyanhydrides (NNCAs). NNTAs were commonly considered too stable to polymerize for their low reactivity. In this contribution, we report controlled polymerizations of N‐ethylglycine NTA (NEG‐NTA) and sarcosine NTA (Sar‐NTA) using primary amines as initiator under proper polymerization conditions. The controllability has been fully supported by 1H NMR end group analyses, MALDI‐ToF mass spectra, kinetic data, block copolymerizations by sequential monomer addition, and low polydispersities (1.14–1.17) of polypeptoids. Variation of the [NNTA]/[initiator] ratio allows well control of the molar mass, and degrees of polymerization (DPs) up to 287 can be reached for poly(N‐ethylglycine) or DPs up to 262 for polysarcosine. NNTAs exhibit excellent activity and they are potential to synthesize polypeptoids with controllable polymerization. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Pyrrolyl‐capped poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) macromonomers (Py‐PNIPAM) were prepared through reversible addition‐fragmentation‐transfer polymerization with benzyl 1‐pyrrolylcarbodithioate as chain‐transfer agent. Polymerizations of Py‐PNIPAM with/without pyrrole using AgNO3 as oxidizing agent and dimethylforamide as solvent resulted in graft copolymers of polypyrrole‐graft‐poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PPy‐g‐PNIPAM) as well as silver nanoparticles, leading to the formation of PPy‐g‐PNIPAM/silver nanocomposites. The resulting nanocomposites were soluble in water when the content of PPy was low, and when the molar ratio of Py/Py‐PNIPAM increased to 30, the resulting products became insoluble in water. The resulting nanocomposites had special optical properties because of PPy as well as the temperature‐responsible PNIPAM. The chemical structure and composition of nanocomposite were characterized by 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatograms, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and X‐ray diffraction. Their optical properties were characterized by UV–vis and fluorescence spectroscopy. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 46: 6950–6960, 2008  相似文献

Aqueous reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer polymerization was used to synthesize poly(N‐[3‐(dimethylamino)propyl]acrylamide) (PDMAPA) cationic homopolymers and micelle‐forming, pH‐responsive, amphiphilic diblock copolymers of poly(sodium 2‐acrylamido‐2‐methyl‐1‐propanesulfonate‐blockN‐acryloyl‐L ‐alanine) (P(AMPS‐b‐AAL)). At low pH, the AAL blocks are protonated rendering them hydrophobic, whereas the AMPS blocks remain anionically charged because of the pendant sulfonate groups. Self‐assembly results in core–shell micelles consisting of hydrophobic cores of AAL and negatively charged shells of AMPS. Using solutions of these micelles with anionic coronas and of the cationic homopolymer PDMAPA, layer‐by‐layer (LbL) films were assembled at low pH, maintaining the micelle structures. Several block copolymers with varying AMPS and AAL block lengths were synthesized and used in the formation of LbL films. The thickness and morphology of the films were examined using ellipsometry and atomic force microscopy. The stimuli‐responsive behavior can be triggered by submersion of the film in water at neutral pH to disrupt the micelles. This behavior was monitored by observing the decrease in film thickness and alteration of the film morphology. The micelles were also loaded with a model hydrophobic compound, pyrene, and incorporated into LbL films. The release of pyrene from the films was monitored by fluorescence spectroscopy at varying pH values (1, 3, 5, and 7). As the pH of the solution increases, the rate of release increases. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2011  相似文献

Two D‐π‐A‐type 2,2,2‐trifluoroacetophenone derivatives, namely, 4′‐(4‐( N,N‐diphenyl)amino‐phenyl)‐phenyl‐2,2,2‐trifluoroacetophenone (PI‐Ben) and 4′‐(4‐(7‐(N,N‐diphenylamino)‐9,9‐dimethyl‐9H‐fluoren‐2‐yl)‐phenyl‐2,2,2‐trifluoroacetophenone (PI‐Flu), are developed as high‐performance photoinitiators combined with an amine or an iodonium salt for both the free‐radical polymerization of acrylates and the cationic polymerization of epoxides and vinyl ether upon exposure to near‐UV and visible light‐emitting diodes (LEDs; e.g., 365, 385, 405, and 450 nm). The photochemical mechanisms are investigated by UV‐Vis spectra, molecular‐orbital calculations, fluorescence, cyclic voltammetry, photolysis, and electron‐spin‐resonance spin‐trapping techniques. Compared with 2,2,2‐trifluoroacetophenone, both photoinitiators exhibit larger redshift of the absorption spectra and higher molar‐extinction coefficients. PI‐Ben and PI‐Flu themselves can produce free radicals to initiate the polymerization of acrylate without any added hydrogen donor. These novel D‐π‐A type trifluoroacetophenone‐based photoinitiating systems exhibit good efficiencies (acrylate conversion = 48%–66%; epoxide conversion = 85%–95%; LEDs at 365–450 nm exposure) even in low‐concentration initiators (0.5%, w/w) and very low curing light intensities (1–2 mW cm?2). © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The controlled free‐radical homopolymerization of n‐butyl acrylate was studied in aqueous miniemulsions at 112 and 125 °C with a low molar mass alkoxyamine unimolecular initiator and an acyclic β‐phosphonylated nitroxide mediator, Ntert‐butyl‐N‐(1‐diethylphosphono‐2,2‐dimethylpropyl) nitroxide, also called SG1. The polymerizations led to stable latices with 20 wt % solids and were obtained with neither coagulation during synthesis nor destabilization over time. However, in contrast to latices obtained via classical free‐radical polymerization, the average particle size of the final latices was large, with broad particle size distributions. The initial [SG1]0/[alkoxyamine]0 molar ratio was shown to control the rate of polymerization. The fraction of SG1 released upon macroradical self‐termination was small with respect to the initial alkoxyamine concentration, indicating a very low fraction of dead chains. Average molar masses were controlled by the initial concentration of alkoxyamine and increased linearly with monomer conversion. The molar mass distribution was narrow, depending on the initial concentration of free nitroxide in the system. The initiator efficiency was lower than 1 at 112 °C but was very significantly improved when either a macroinitiator was used at 112 °C or the polymerization temperature was raised to 125 °C. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The effect of the molar ratio of the monomer to the initiator on the polymerization was studied. The polymers were characterized with 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectroscopy. The thermal properties of the polymers were investigated with differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis. A series of well‐defined double‐hydrophilic graft copolymers, consisting of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide)‐b‐poly(ethyl acrylate) (PNIPAM‐b‐PEA) backbone and poly(2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl acrylate) (PDMAEA) side chains, were synthesized by the combination of single‐electron‐transfer living radical polymerization (SET‐LRP) and atom‐transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). PNIPAM‐b‐PEA backbone was first prepared by sequential SET‐LRP of N‐isopropylacrylamide and 2‐hydroxyethyl acrylate at 25 °C using CuCl/tris(2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl)amine as catalytic system followed by the transformation into the macroinitiator by treating the pendant hydroxyls with 2‐chloropropionyl chloride. The final graft copolymers with narrow molecular weight distributions were synthesized by ATRP of 2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl acrylate initiated by the macroinitiator at 40 °C using CuCl/tris(2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl)amine as catalytic system via the grafting‐from strategy. These copolymers were employed to prepare stable colloidal gold nanoparticles with controlled size in aqueous solution without any external reducing agent. The morphology and size of the nanoparticles were affected by the length of PDMAEA side chains, pH value, and the feed ratio of the graft copolymer to HAuCl4. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The cationic ring‐opening polymerization of a seven‐membered cyclic monothiocarbonate, 1,3‐dioxepan‐2‐thione, produced a soluble polymer through the selective isomerization of thiocarbonyl to a carbonyl group {? [SC(C?O)O(CH2)4]n? }. The molecular weights of the polymer could be controlled by the feed ratio of the monomer to the initiators or the conversion of the monomer during the polymerization, although some termination reactions occurred after the complete consumption of the monomer. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The polar solvents, N‐methylpyrrolidone (NMP), N,N‐dimethylformamide (DMF), and acetonitrile (CH3CN) were used as ligands for iron(III)‐mediated activators generated by electron transfer atom transfer radical polymerizations (AGET ATRPs) of methyl methacrylate (MMA) with various initiators and reducing agents. Polymerizations were conducted with a molar ratio of [MMA]0/[initiator]0/[FeBr3]0/[reducing agent]0 = 100:1:1:0.5 and a volume ratio of MMA/solvent = 2:1 at 60 °C to investigate the effects of initiator, solvent and reducing agent, and most of the systems showed the typical features of “living”/controlled radical polymerization. In order to get a deeper understanding of the mechanism, the amount of the reducing agent was changed to study the polymerization behavior. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. The feasibility of utilizing stable free‐radical polymerization (SFRP) in the synthesis of well‐defined poly(2‐vinylnaphthalene) homopolymers has been investigated. Efforts to control molecular weight by manipulating initiator concentration while maintaining a 2,2,6,6‐tetramethylpiperidinyl‐1‐oxy (TEMPO):benzoyl peroxide (BPO) molar ratio of 1.2:1 proved unsuccessful. In addition, systematic variations of the TEMPO: BPO molar ratio did not result in narrow molecular weight distributions. In situ Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) indicated that the rate of monomer disappearance under SFRP and thermal conditions were identical. This observation indicated a lack of control in the presence of the stable free radical, TEMPO. The similarities in chemical structure between styrene and 2‐vinylnaphthalene suggested thermally initiated polymerization occurred via the Mayo mechanism. A kinetic analysis of the thermal polymerization of styrene and 2‐vinylnaphthalene suggested that the additional fused ring in 2‐vinylnaphthalene increased the propensity for thermal polymerization. The observed rate constant for thermal polymerization of 2‐vinylnaphthalene was determined using in situ FTIR spectroscopy and was one order of magnitude greater than styrene, assuming pseudo‐first‐order kinetics. Also, an Arrhenius analysis indicated that the activation energy for the thermal polymerization of 2‐vinylnaphthalene was 30 kJ/mol less than styrene. © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Radical polymerization of Nn‐propyl‐α‐fluoroacrylamide (NNPFAAm) was investigated in several solvents at low temperatures in the presence or absence of Lewis bases, Lewis acids, alkyl alcohols, silyl alcohols, or fluorinated alcohols. Different effects of solvents and additives on stereospecificity were observed in the radical polymerizations of NNPFAAm and its hydrocarbon analogs such as N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm) and Nn‐propylacrylamide (NNPAAm); for instance, syndiotactic (and heterotactic) specificities were induced in radical polymerization of NNPFAAm in polar solvents (and in toluene in the presence of alkyl and silyl alcohols), whereas isotactic (and syndiotactic) specificities were induced in radical polymerizations of the hydrocarbon analogs under the corresponding conditions. In contrast, heterotactic specificity induced by fluorinated alcohols was further enhanced in radical polymerization of NNPFAAm. The effects of stereoregularity on the phase‐transition behaviors of aqueous solutions of poly(NNPFAAm) were also investigated. Different tendencies in stereoregularity were observed in aqueous solutions of poly(NNPFAAm)s from those in solutions of the hydrocarbon analogs such as poly(NIPAAm) and poly (NNPAAm). The polymerization behavior of NNPFAAm and the phase‐transition behavior of aqueous poly(NNPFAAm) are discussed based on possible fluorine–fluorine repulsion between the monomer and propagating chain‐end, and neighboring monomeric units. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of polypeptide‐containing block copolymers combining N‐carboxyanhydride (NCA) ring‐opening polymerization and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) was investigated. An amide initiator comprising an amine function for the NCA polymerization and an activated bromide for ATRP was used. Well‐defined polypeptide macroinitiators were obtained from γ‐benzyl‐L ‐glutamate NCA, O‐benzyl‐serine NCA, and N‐benzyloxy‐L ‐lysine. Subsequent ATRP macroinitiation from the polypeptides resulted in higher than expected molecular weights. Analysis of the reaction products and model reactions confirmed that this is due to the high frequency of termination reactions by disproportionation in the initial phase of the ATRP, which is inherent in the amide initiator structure. In some cases selective precipitation could be applied to remove unreacted macroinitiator to yield well‐defined block copolymers. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
