This article reports a practical method for preparing cis‐polybutadiene‐blocksyn‐polystyrene (cis‐PB‐bsyn‐PS) copolymers with long crystallizable syndiotactic polystyrene (syn‐PS) segments chemically bonded with high cis‐1,4‐polybutadiene segments through the addition of styrene (ST) to a cis‐specific 1,3‐butadiene (BD) living catalyst composed of cyclopentadienyl titanium trichloride (CpTiCl3) and modified methylaluminoxane (MMAO). The incorporation of ST into the living polybutadiene (PB) precursor remarkably depended on the polymerization temperature. A low temperature (?20 °C) suppressed the rate of ST incorporation, but a high temperature (50 °C) tended to decompose the livingness of the active species and enhance the rate of the aspecific ST polymerization initiated by MMAO. Consequently, temperatures of 0–25 °C seemed to be best for this copolymerization system. Because of the absence of ST livingness, the final products contained not only the block copolymer but also the homopolymers. Attempts to isolate the block copolymer were carried out with common solvent fractionation techniques, but the results were not sufficient. Cross‐fractionation chromatography was, therefore, used for the isolation of the cis‐PB‐bsyn‐PS copolymer. The presence of long syn‐PS segments was confirmed by the observation of a strong endothermic peak at 260 °C in the differential scanning calorimetry curve. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Well‐defined poly(vinyl acetate) macroinitiators, with the chains thus end‐capped by a cobalt complex, were synthesized by cobalt‐mediated radical polymerization and used to initiate styrene polymerization at 30 °C. Although the polymerization of the second block was not controlled, poly(vinyl acetate)‐b‐polystyrene copolymers were successfully prepared and converted into amphiphilic poly(vinyl alcohol)‐b‐polystyrene copolymers by the methanolysis of the ester functions of the poly(vinyl acetate) block. These poly(vinyl alcohol)‐b‐polystyrene copolymers self‐associated in water with the formation of nanocups, at least when the poly(vinyl alcohol) content was low enough. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) was investigated with tris(pentafluorophenyl)alane [Al(C6F5)3] and four metallocene imido complexes that varied in the complex symmetry/chirality, metal, and R group in the ?NR moiety, as well as a zirconocene enolate preformed from the imido zirconocene and MMA. This study examined four aspects of MMA polymerization: the effects of the metallocene imido complex structure on the polymerization activity and polymer tacticity, the degree of polymerization control, the elementary reactions of the imido complex with Al(C6F5)3 and MMA, and the polymerization kinetics and mechanism. There was no effect of the imido complex symmetry/chirality on the polymerization stereochemistry; the polymerization followed Bernoullian statistics, producing syndiotactic poly(methyl methacrylate)s with moderate (~70% [rr]) to high (~91% [rr]) syndiotacticity, depending on the polymerization temperature. Polymerization control was demonstrated by the number‐average molecular weight, which increased linearly with an increase in the monomer conversion to 100%, and the relatively small and insensitive polydispersity indices (from 1.21 to 1.17) to conversion. The reactions of the zirconocene imido complex with Al(C6F5)3 and MMA produced the parent base‐free imido complex and the [2 + 4] cycloaddition product (i.e., zirconocene enolate), respectively; the latter product reacted with Al(C6F5)3 to generate the active zirconocenium enolaluminate. The MMA polymerization with the metallocene imido complex and the alane proceeded via intermolecular Michael addition of the enolaluminate to the alane‐activated MMA involved in the propagation step. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Through the Diels–Alder reaction between cyclopentadiene groups attached to polystyrene in the presence of zirconocene, novel polystyrene‐supported metallocene catalysts were prepared. A novel method for immobilizing metallocene catalysts was investigated, and the resultant polystyrene‐supported metallocene for olefin polymerization was studied. The results of olefin polymerization showed that different crosslinking degrees of support in the catalyst system had significant effects on the catalytic behavior. The influence of the [Al]/[Zr] molar ratio and the temperature on the (co)polymerization activity was studied. When 1‐hexene and 1‐dodecene were used for copolymerization with ethylene, an obvious positive comonomer effect was observed. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Various elastomeric polypropylenes (PPs) are synthesized through homogeneous propylene polymerization with metallocene catalyst (2‐PhInd)2ZrCl2 in the presence of different cocatalyst mixtures: triethylaluminum (TEA)/methylaluminoxane (MAO) or triisobutylaluminum (TIBA)/MAO in the range of AlAlR3/AlMAO = 0.0–0.9. The cocatalyst formulation impacts the resultant polymer microstructure and the thermal and dynamic mechanical properties of the produced PPs. 13C NMR analysis of the polymers reveals essentially atactic PP, with mmmm = 7.9%, when AlAlR3/AlMAO = 0.0. The mmmm pentad content is maximized when AlAlR3/AlMAO = 0.8; for TIBA, mmmm = 23.5%; and for TEA, mmmm = 17.6%. Differential scanning calorimetry analysis and dynamic mechanical thermal analysis corroborate these findings. Specifically, Tm, ΔHm, and Tg are essentially maximized under these conditions, and the minimum damping is observed for AlAlR3/AlMAO = 0.6–0.8. 1H NMR analysis of the mixtures of catalyst and cocatalysts (without monomer) shows very minor differences for [Zr]:AlAlR3 in the range of 1:1–1:5. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Stress–strain and microhardness measurements were carried out on a series of copolymers of ethylene and 1‐octadecene with different comonomer contents in the corresponding homopolymer of ethylene, synthesized with a metallocene catalyst. The different mechanical properties, deduced from the stress–strain curves (Young's modulus, yield stress, deformation at break, and energy to break) are interpreted in terms of the crystallinity and molecular weight of the samples because these two characteristics show considerable variations with the comonomer content. The microhardness values are explained in terms of these properties, and they are also correlated with Young's moduli and yield stresses deduced from the stress–strain curves. Linear relations are found between microhardness and yield stress and between the logarithm of the microhardness and the logarithm of the elastic modulus. The properties deduced from these lines are compared with literature values. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci B: Polym Phys 39: 277–285, 2001  相似文献

A series of Me4Cp–amido complexes {[η51‐(Me4C5)SiMe2NR]TiCl2; R = t‐Bu, 1 ; C6H5, 2 ; C6F5, 3 ; SO2Ph, 4 ; or SO2Me, 5 } were prepared and investigated for olefin polymerization in the presence of methylaluminoxane (MAO). X‐ray crystallography of complexes 3 and 4 revealed very long Ti N bonds relative to the bonds of 1 . These complexes were employed for ethylene–styrene copolymerizations, styrene homopolymerizations, and propylene homopolymerizations in the presence of MAO. The productivities of the catalysts derived from 3 – 5 were much lower than the productivity of the catalyst derived from 1 for the propylene polymerizations and ethylene–styrene copolymerizations, whereas the styrene polymerization activities were much higher for the catalysts derived from 3 – 5 than for the catalyst derived from 1 . The polymerization behavior of the catalysts derived from the metallocenes 3 – 5 were more reminiscent of monocyclopentadienyl titanocene Cp′TiX3/MAO catalysts than of CpATiX2/MAO catalysts such as 1 containing alkylamido ligands. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The addition of mixture of polystyrene‐b‐poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PS‐b‐PNIPAM) and polystyrene homopolymer (h‐PS) in tetrahydrofuran dropwise into water leads to nanoparticles with a PS core and a thermally sensitive PNIPAM shell. The effects of the ratio of the homopolymer to copolymer and temperature on the formation and stabilization of the dispersion were investigated by using a combination of static and dynamic laser light scattering. PNIPAM shell continuously collapses as temperature increases in the range 20–40 °C. Such formed particles are stable even at temperatures much higher than lower critical solution temperature (LCST ~ 32 °C) of PNIPAM. Our results reveal that the area occupied per hydrophilic PNIPAM chain on the hydrophobic PS core remains nearly a constant regardless of the amount of h‐PS in the polymer mixture. This clearly indicates that the surface area occupied per hydrophilic group is a critical parameter for stabilizing particles dispersed in water. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Vinylsilanes CH2CHSiR3 (R = Me, NMe2, OMe, OTMS) copolymerize with ethylene rapidly in the presence of catalytic amounts of [Cp′2ZrMe][MeB(C6F5)3] (Cp′ = η5‐C5Me5) ( I ) to give high molecular weight silyl‐functionalized polyethylene. The molecular weight of the polymer can be controlled by varying the comonomer concentration as well as the reaction temperature. Relatively low molecular weight polymer was produced at a higher silyl monomer concentration and a higher polymerization temperature. The incorporation of silyl monomer in the polymer is in the range of 0.1‐ 6.0%. On the other hands, catalysts [Cp2ZrMe][MeB(C6F5)3] (Cp′ = η5‐C5H5) ( II ) and [Cp″2ZrMe][MeB(C6F5)3] (Cp″ = η5‐1,2‐C5Me2H3) ( III ) show much lower activity. With the use of more coordinatively unsaturated constrained geometry catalysts (CGC), Me2Si(η5‐C5Me4)(NtBu)MMe][MeB(C6F5)3] ( IV , M = Zr; V , M = Ti), the silyl monomer incorporation in the polymer was increased to 40%. The Ti catalyst is more active and produces polymer with a higher molecular weight with a higher silyl monomer incorporation at 23 °C. The copolymerization of vinyltrimethylsilane with propylene was also investigated with these catalysts, yielding high silyl‐functionalized propylene copolymer/oligmer. The microstructure of the copolymers/oligomers has been thoroughly investigated by 1D and 2D NMR techniques (1H, 13C, NOE, DEPT, HETCOR, and FLOCK). The results show that the backbone of the copolymers/oligomers is essentially random. Several termination pathways have been identified. In particular, two unsaturated silyl terminations, cis and/or trans‐TMS CHCH , were identified with the constrained geometry catalysts. Their formation was rationalized based on transition state models. It was found that occasional 1,2‐insertion of either propylene or vinyltrimethylsilane into the chain propagation process has a high probability serving as the trigger for polymer chain termination via β‐H elimination. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Butadiene‐isoprene copolymerization with the system V(acac)3‐MAO was examined. Crystalline or amorphous copolymers were obtained depending on isoprene content. Both butadiene and isoprene units exhibit a trans‐1,4 structure and are statistically distributed along the polymer chain. Polymer microstructure, comonomer composition, and distribution along the polymer chain were determined by 13C and 1H NMR analysis. The thermal and X‐ray behaviors of the copolymers were also investigated and compared with results from solid‐state 13C NMR experiments. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Styrene was copolymerized with ethylene using the geometry constrained Me2Si(Me4Cp)(N‐tert‐butyl)TiCl2 Dow catalyst activated with methylaluminoxane. Increasing the styrene/ethylene ratio in the reactor feed had the effects of reducing both the activity of the catalyst and the molecular weight of the copolymers produced. However, the higher the styrene/ethylene ratio used, the greater the amount of styrene that became incorporated in the copolymer. We discuss these experimental findings within the framework of a computational analysis of ethylene/styrene copolymerization performed through hybrid density functional theory (B3LYP). In general, there was good agreement between the experimental and theoretical results. Our findings point to the suitability of combining experimental and theoretical data for clarifying the copolymerization mechanisms that take place in α‐olefin‐organometallic systems. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Cyclopolymerization of 1,5‐hexadiene has been carried out at various temperatures in toluene by using three different stereospecific metallocene catalysts—isospecific rac‐(EBI)Zr(NMe2)2 [EBI: ethylenebis(1‐indenyl), Cat 1], syndiospecific Me2C(Cp)(Flu)ZrMe2 (Cp = 1‐cyclopentadienyl, Flu = 1‐fluorenyl, Cat 2), and aspecific CpZrMe2 (Cp*: pentamethylcyclopentadienyl, Cat 3) compounds in the presence of Al(i‐Bu)3 and [Ph3C][B(C6F5)4]—in order to study the effect of polymerization temperature and catalyst stereospecificity on the property and microstructure of poly(methylene‐1,3‐cyclopentane) (PMCP). The activities of catalysts decrease in the following order: Cat 1 > Cat 2 > Cat 3. PMCPs produced by Cat 1 are not completely soluble in toluene, but those by Cat 2 and Cat 3 are soluble in toluene. trans‐Diisotactic rich PMCPs are produced by Cat 1 and Cat 2, and cis‐atactic PMCP by Cat 3. The cis/trans ratio of PMCP by Cat 1 and Cat 2 is relatively insensitive to the polymerization temperature, but that by Cat 3 is highly sensitive to the polymerization temperature. Melting temperatures of PMCP produced increase with the cis to trans ratio of rings. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 38: 1520–1527, 2000  相似文献

Mixed micelles of polystyrene‐b‐poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PS‐b‐PNIPAM) and two polystyrene‐b‐poly(ethylene oxide) diblock copolymers (PS‐b‐PEO) with different chain lengths of polystyrene in aqueous solution were prepared by adding the tetrahydrofuran solutions dropwise into an excess of water. The formation and stabilization of the resultant mixed micelles were characterized by using a combination of static and dynamic light scattering. Increasing the initial concentration of PS‐b‐PEO in THF led to a decrease in the size and the weight average molar mass (〈Mw〉) of the mixed micelles when the initial concentration of PS‐b‐ PNIPAM was kept as 1 × 10?3 g/mL. The PS‐b‐PEO with shorter PS block has a more pronounced effect on the change of the size and 〈Mw〉 than that with longer PS block. The number of PS‐b‐PNIPAM in each mixed micelle decreased with the addition of PS‐b‐PEO. The average hydrodynamic radius 〈Rh〉 and average radius of gyration 〈Rg〉 of pure PS‐b‐PNIPAM and mixed micelles gradually decreased with the increase in the temperature. Both the pure micelles and mixed micelles were stable in the temperature range of 18 °C–39 °C. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 48: 1168–1174, 2010  相似文献

The effect of the triblock copolymer poly[styrene‐b‐(ethylene‐co‐butylene)‐b‐styrene] (SEBS) on the formation of the space charge of immiscible low‐density polyethylene (LDPE)/polystyrene (PS) blends was investigated. Blends of 70/30 (wt %) LDPE/PS were prepared through melt blending in an internal mixer at a blend temperature of 220 °C. The amount of charge that accumulated in the 70% LDPE/30% PS blends decreased when the SEBS content increased up to 10 wt %. For compatibilized and uncompatibilized blends, no significant change in the degree of crystallinity of LDPE in the blends was observed, and so the effect of crystallization on the space charge distribution could be excluded. Morphological observations showed that the addition of SEBS resulted in a domain size reduction of the dispersed PS phase and better interfacial adhesion between the LDPE and PS phases. The location of SEBS at a domain interface enabled charges to migrate from one phase to the other via the domain interface and, therefore, resulted in a significant decrease in the amount of space charge for the LDPE/PS blends with SEBS. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The catalytic activity of ruthenium(II) bis(diimine) complexes cis‐[Ru(6,6′‐Cl2bpy)2(OH2)2](Z)2 ( 1 , Z = CF3SO3; 2 , Z = (3,5‐(CF3)2C6H3)4B, i.e. BArF) and cis‐[Ru(4,4′‐Cl2bpy)2(OH2)2](Z)2 ( 3 , Z = CF3SO3; 4 , Z = BArF) for the hydrogenation and/or the hydrogenolysis of furfural (FFR) and furfuryl alcohol (FFA) was investigated. The molecular structures of cis‐[Ru(4,4′‐Cl2bpy)2(CH3CN)2](CF3SO3)2 ( 3 ′) and dimeric cis‐[(Ru(4,4′‐Cl2bpy)2Cl)2](BArF)2 ( 5 ) were characterized by X‐ray crystallography. The structures are consistent with the anticipated reduction in steric hindrance about the ruthenium centers in comparison with corresponding complexes containing 6,6′‐Cl2bpy ligands. While compounds 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 are all active and highly selective catalysts for the hydrogenation of FFR to FFA under modest reaction conditions, 3 and 4 showed decreased activity. This is best explained in terms of reduced Lewis acidity of the Ru2+ centers and reduced steric hindrance about the metal centers of catalysts 3 and 4 . cis‐[Ru(6,6′‐Cl2bpy)2(OH2)2](BArF)2 ( 2 ) also displayed high catalytic efficiency for the hydrogenation of FFA to tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol. Presumably, this is because coordination of C═C bonds of FFA to the ruthenium center is poorly inhibited by non‐coordinating BArF counterions. Interestingly, cis‐[Ru(6,6′‐Cl2bpy)2(OH2)2](CF3SO3)2 ( 1 ) showed some catalytic activity in ethanol for the hydrogenolysis of FFA to 2‐methylfuran, albeit with fairly modest selectivity. Nonetheless, these results indicate that ruthenium(II) bis(diimine) complexes need to be further explored as catalysts for the hydrogenolysis of C―O bonds of FFR, FFA, and related compounds. Temperature (T) effects on the microstructure of polypropylene made with metallocene catalysts have been investigated with the theoretical framework originally developed by Coleman and Fox and extended to the stereospecific polymerization of propylene with two‐state ansa and fluxional metallocene catalysts. T effects on the polymer microstructure are mainly due to factors other than changes in the intrinsic stereoselectivity of the two states. The model has been applied to the stereosequence distributions of polypropylene prepared with the C1‐symmetric Me2Si(Ind)(Flu)ZrCl2 complex, activated with methyl aluminoxane, over a range of T and monomer concentration ([M]) values. The use of these two variables, in combination with the Coleman–Fox model (or a kinetic model), allows more reliable estimates of fundamental parameters, especially when the microstructure is a weak function of one of these variables at a constant value of T (e.g., [M]). © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polyethylene‐block‐poly(methyl methacrylate) (PE‐b‐PMMA) was successfully synthesized through the combination of metallocene catalysis with living radical polymerization. Terminally hydroxylated polyethylene, prepared by ethylene/allyl alcohol copolymerization with a specific zirconium metallocene/methylaluminoxane/triethylaluminum catalyst system, was treated with 2‐bromoisobutyryl bromide to produce terminally esterified polyethylene (PE‐Br). With the resulting PE‐Br as an initiator for transition‐metal‐mediated living radical polymerization, methyl methacrylate polymerization was subsequently performed with CuBr or RuCl2(PPh3)3 as a catalyst. Then, PE‐b‐PMMA block copolymers of different poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) contents were prepared. Transmission electron microscopy of the obtained block copolymers revealed unique morphological features that depended on the content of the PMMA segment. The block copolymer possessing 75 wt % PMMA contained 50–100‐nm spherical polyethylene lamellae uniformly dispersed in the PMMA matrix. Moreover, the PE‐b‐PMMA block copolymers effectively compatibilized homopolyethylene and homo‐PMMA at a nanometer level. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. With the aim of creating highly branched amphiphilic block copolymers, the primary amine end groups of the poly(propylene imine) dendrimers DAB‐dendr‐(NH2)8 and DAB‐dendr‐(NH2)64 were converted to 2‐bromoisobutyramide groups. Poly (styrene‐btert‐butyl methacrylate) (PS‐b‐PtBMA) was synthesized by ATRP from the eight end group initiator, and poly(styrene‐btert‐butyl acrylate) (PS‐b‐PtBA) was synthesized from the 64 end group initiator. The tert‐butyl groups were removed to produce poly(styrene‐b‐methacrylic acid) (PS‐b‐PMAA) and poly(styrene‐b‐acrylic acid) (PS‐b‐PAA). Comparison of size exclusion chromatography (SEC) absolute molecular weight analyses of the polystyrenes with calculated molecular weights showed that the eight end group initiator produced a polystyrene with about eight branches, and that the 64 end group initiator produced polystyrene with many fewer than 64 branches. The PS‐b‐PtBA materials also have many fewer than 64 branches. The PS‐b‐PAA samples dissolved molecularly in DMF but formed aggregates in water even at pH 10. AFM images of the PS‐b‐PtBAs spin coated from THF and DMF onto mica showed aggregates. AFM images of the PS‐b‐PAAs spin coated from various mixtures of DMF and water at pH 10 showed flat disks and worm‐like images similar to those observed with linear PS‐b‐PAAs. Use of a PS‐b‐PAA and a PS‐b‐PMAA as templates for emulsion polymerization of styrene produced latexes 100–200 nm in diameter. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
